  • Bulk inserting and updating with Entity Framework (Probably a better alternative?)

    - by Dave
    I have a data set of devices, addresses, and companies that I need to import into our database, with the catch that our database may already include a specific device/address/company that is included in the new data set. If that is the case, I need to update that entry with the new information in the data set, excluding addresses. We check if an exact copy of that address exists, otherwise we make a new entry. My issue is that it is very slow to attempt to grab a device/company in EF and if it exist updated it, otherwise insert it. To fix this I tried to get all the companies, devices, and addresses and insert them into respective hashmaps, and check if the identifier of the new data exists in the hashmap. This hasn't led to any performance increases. I've included my code below. Typically I would do a batch insert, I'm not sure what I would do for a batch update though. Can someone advise a different route? var context = ObjectContextHelper.CurrentObjectContext; var oldDevices = context.Devices; var companies = context.Companies; var addresses = context.Addresses; Dictionary<string, Company> companyMap = new Dictionary<string, Company>(StringComparer.OrdinalIgnoreCase); Dictionary<string, Device> deviceMap = new Dictionary<string, Device>(StringComparer.OrdinalIgnoreCase); Dictionary<string, Address> addressMap = new Dictionary<string, Address>(StringComparer.OrdinalIgnoreCase); foreach (Company c in companies) { if (c.CompanyAccountID != null && !companyMap.ContainsKey(c.CompanyAccountID)) companyMap.Add(c.CompanyAccountID, c); } foreach (Device d in oldDevices) { if (d.SerialNumber != null && !deviceMap.ContainsKey(d.SerialNumber)) deviceMap.Add(d.SerialNumber, d); } foreach (Address a in addresses) { string identifier = GetAddressIdentifier(a); if (!addressMap.ContainsKey(identifier)) addressMap.Add(identifier, a); } foreach (DeviceData.TabsDevice device in devices) { // update a device Company tempCompany; Address tempAddress; Device currentDevice; if (deviceMap.ContainsKey(device.SerialNumber)) //update a device deviceMap.TryGetValue(device.SerialNumber, out currentDevice); else // insert a new device currentDevice = new Device(); currentDevice.SerialNumber = device.SerialNumber; currentDevice.SerialNumberTABS = device.SerialNumberTabs; currentDevice.Model = device.Model; if (device.CustomerAccountID != null && device.CustomerAccountID != "") { companyMap.TryGetValue(device.CustomerAccountID, out tempCompany); currentDevice.CustomerID = tempCompany.CompanyID; currentDevice.CustomerName = tempCompany.CompanyName; } if (companyMap.TryGetValue(device.ServicingDealerAccountID, out tempCompany)) currentDevice.CompanyID = tempCompany.CompanyID; currentDevice.StatusID = 1; currentDevice.Retries = 0; currentDevice.ControllerFamilyID = 1; if (currentDevice.EWBFrontPanelMsgOption == null) // set the Panel option to the default if it isn't set already currentDevice.EWBFrontPanelMsgOption = context.EWBFrontPanelMsgOptions.Where( i => i.OptionDescription.Contains("default")).Single(); // link the device to the existing address as long as it is actually an address if (addressMap.TryGetValue(GetAddressIdentifier(device.address), out tempAddress)) { if (GetAddressIdentifier(device.address) != "") currentDevice.Address = tempAddress; else currentDevice.Address = null; } else // insert a new Address and link the device to it (if not null) { if (GetAddressIdentifier(device.address) == "") currentDevice.Address = null; else { tempAddress = new Address(); tempAddress.Address1 = device.address.Address1; tempAddress.Address2 = device.address.Address2; tempAddress.Address3 = device.address.Address3; tempAddress.Address4 = device.address.Address4; tempAddress.City = device.address.City; tempAddress.Country = device.address.Country; tempAddress.PostalCode = device.address.PostalCode; tempAddress.State = device.address.State; addresses.AddObject(tempAddress); addressMap.Add(GetAddressIdentifier(tempAddress), tempAddress); currentDevice.Address = tempAddress; } } if (!deviceMap.ContainsKey(device.SerialNumber)) // if inserting, add to context { oldDevices.AddObject(currentDevice); deviceMap.Add(device.SerialNumber, currentDevice); } } context.SaveChanges();

  • How to have multiple tables with multiple joins

    - by williamsdb
I have three tables that I need to join together and get a combination of results. I have tried using left/right joins but they don't give the desired results. For example: Table 1 - STAFF id name 1 John 2 Fred Table 2 - STAFFMOBILERIGHTS id staffid mobilerightsid rights --this table is empty-- Table 3 - MOBILERIGHTS id rightname 1 Login 2 View and what I need is this as the result... id name id staffid mobilerightsid rights id rightname 1 John null null null null 1 login 1 John null null null null 2 View 2 Fred null null null null 1 login 2 Fred null null null null 2 View I have tried the following : SELECT * FROM STAFFMOBILERIGHTS SMR RIGHT JOIN STAFF STA ON STA.STAFFID = SMR.STAFFID RIGHT JOIN MOBILERIGHTS MRI ON MRI.ID = SMR.MOBILERIGHTSID But this only returns two rows as follows: id name id staffid mobilerightsid rights id rightname null null null null null null 1 login null null null null null null 2 View Can what I am trying to achieve be done and if so how? Thanks

  • How to give weight to full matches over partial matches (PostgreSQL)

    - by kagaku
I've got a query that takes an input searches for the closet match in zipcode/region/city/metrocode in a location table containing a few tens of thousands of entries (should be nearly every city in the US). The query I'm using is: select metrocode, region, postalcode, region_full, city from dv_location where ( region ilike '%Chicago%' or postalcode ilike '%Chicago%' or city ilike '%Chicago%' or region_full ilike'%Chicago%' ) and metrocode is not null Odd thing is, the results set I'm getting back looks like this: metrocode;region;postalcode;region_full;city 862;CA;95712;California;Chicago Park 862;CA;95712;California;Chicago Park 602;IL;60611;Illinois;Chicago 602;IL;60610;Illinois;Chicago What am I doing wrong? My thinking is that Chicago would have greater weight than Chicago Park since Chicago is an exact match to the term (even though I'm asking for a wildcard match on the term).

  • Problems getting foreign keys working in MySQL

I've been trying to get a delete to cascade and it just doesn't seem to work. I'm sure I am missing something obvious, can anyone help me find it? • mysql statement with nested SELECT - how to improve performance

    - by ernie
This statement appears inefficient because only one one out of 10 records are selected and only 1 of 100 entries contain comments. What can I do to improve it ? $query = "SELECT A,B,C, (SELECT COUNT(*) FROM comments WHERE comments.nid = header_file.nid) as my_comment_count FROM header_file Where A = 'admin' " edit: I want header records even if no comments are found.

  • MySQL - Finding time overlaps

    - by Jude
Hi, I have 2 tables in the database with the following attributes: Booking ======= booking_id booking_start booking_end resource_booked =============== booking_id resource_id The second table is an associative entity between "Booking" and "Resource" (i.e., 1 booking can contain many resources). Attributes booking_start and booking_end are timestamps with date and time in it. May I know how I might be able to find out for each resource_id (resource_booked) if the date/time overlaps or clashes with other bookings of similar resource_id? I was doodling the answer on paper, pictorially, to see if it might help me visualize how I could solve this and I got this: Joining the 2 tables (Booking, Booked_resource) into one table with the 4 attributes needed. Follow the answer suggested here : http://stackoverflow.com/questions/689458/find-overlapping-date-time-rows-within-one-table I did step 1 but step 2 is leaving me baffled! I would really appreciate any help on this! Thanks!

  • MySQL - display rows of names and addresses grouped by name, where name occures more than once

    - by Stoob
I have two tables, "name" and "address". I would like to list the last_name and joined address.street_address of all last_name in table "name" that occur more than once in table "name". The two tables are joined on the column "name_id". The desired output would appear like so: 213 | smith | 123 bluebird | 14 | smith | 456 first ave | 718 | smith | 12 san antonia st. | 244 | jones | 78 third ave # 45 | 98 | jones | 18177 toronto place | Note that if the last_name "abernathy" appears only once in table "name", then "abernathy" should not be included in the result. This is what I came up with so far: SELECT name.name_id, name.last_name, address.street_address, count(*) FROM `name` JOIN `address` ON name.name_id = address.name_id GROUP BY `last_name` HAVING count(*) > 1 However, this produces only one row per last name. I'd like all the last names listed. I know I am missing something simple. Any help is appreciated, thanks!

  • How to optimise MySQL query containing a subquery?

    - by aidan
I have two tables, House and Person. For any row in House, there can be 0, 1 or many corresponding rows in Person. But, of those people, a maximum of one will have a status of "ACTIVE", the others will all have a status of "CANCELLED". e.g. SELECT * FROM House LEFT JOIN Person ON House.ID = Person.HouseID House.ID | Person.ID | Person.Status 1 | 1 | CANCELLED 1 | 2 | CANCELLED 1 | 3 | ACTIVE 2 | 1 | ACTIVE 3 | NULL | NULL 4 | 4 | CANCELLED I want to filter out the cancelled rows, and get something like this: House.ID | Person.ID | Person.Status 1 | 3 | ACTIVE 2 | 1 | ACTIVE 3 | NULL | NULL 4 | NULL | NULL I've achieved this with the following sub select: SELECT * FROM House LEFT JOIN ( SELECT * FROM Person WHERE Person.Status != "CANCELLED" ) Person ON House.ID = Person.HouseID ...which works, but breaks all the indexes. Is there a better solution that doesn't? I'm using MySQL and all relevant columns are indexed. EXPLAIN lists nothing in possible_keys. Thanks.

  • oracle query with inconsistent results

    - by Spencer Stejskal
Im having a very strange problem, i have a complicated view that returns incorrect data when i query on a particular column. heres an example: select empname, has_garnishment from timecard_v2 where empname = 'Testerson, Testy'; this returns the single result 'Testerson, Testy', 'N' however, if i use the query: select empname, has_garnishment from timecard_v2 where empname = 'Testerson, Testy' and has_garnishment = 'Y'; this returns the single result 'Testerson, Testy', 'Y' The second query should return a subset of the first query, but it returns a different answer. I have dissected the view and determined that this section of the view definition is where the problem arises(Note, I removed all of the select clause except the parts of interests for clarity, in the full query all joined tables are required): SELECT e.fullname empname , NVL2(ded.has_garn, 'Y', 'N') has_garnishment FROM timecard tc , orderdetail od , orderassign oa , employee e , employee3 e3 , customer10 c10 , order_misc om, (SELECT COUNT(*) has_garn, v_ssn FROM deductions WHERE yymmdd_stop = 0 OR (LENGTH(yymmdd_stop) = 7 AND to_date(SUBSTR(yymmdd_stop, 2), 'YYMMDD') sysdate) GROUP BY v_ssn ) ded WHERE oa.lrn(+) = tc.lrn_order AND om.lrn(+) = od.lrn AND od.orderno = oa.orderno AND e.ssn = tc.ssn AND c10.custno = tc.custno AND e.lrn = e3.lrn AND e.ssn = ded.v_ssn(+) One thing of note about the definition of the 'ded' subquery. The v_ssn field is a virtual field on the deductions table. I am not a DBA im a software developer but we recently lost our DBA and the new one is still getting up to speed so im trying to debug this issue. That being said, please explain things a little more thoroughly then you would for a fellow oracle expert. thanks

  • Select count / duplicates

    - by mike
Hello! I have a table with all U.S. zip codes. each row contains the city and state name for the zip code. I'm trying to get a list of cities that show up in multiple states. This wouldn't be a problem if there weren't X amount of zip codes in the same city... So basically, I just want to the city in a state to count as 1 instead of it counting the city/state 7 times because there are 2+ zip codes in that city/state... I'm not really sure how to do this. I know I need to use count but how do I tell the mysql to only count a given city/state combo as 1?

  • ibatis/Oracle - SELECT query inside INSERT is failing

    - by whoopy_whale
Hi, I'm trying to do an Insert operation using iBatis. INSERT INTO SCHEMA.TABLE (FIELD1, FIELD2, FIELD3) VALUES (#field1#, (SELECT ANOTHER_FIELD FROM SCHEMA.TABLE WHERE FIELD4= #field2#), #field2#) The inner select query always fails and returns NULL. But if I substitute #field2# with the actual value only in the inner query, it works fine. Why is iBatis not substituting fieldvalues in the innerqueries? Any ideas?

  • Why connection in Python's DB-API does not have "begin" operation?

    - by newtover
Working with cursors in mysql-python I used to call "BEGIN;", "COMMIT;", and "ROLLBACK;" explicitly as follows: try: cursor.execute("BEGIN;") # some statements cursor.execute("COMMIT;") except: cursor.execute("ROLLBACK;") then, I found out that the underlying connection object has the corresponding methods: try: cursor.connection.begin() # some statements cursor.connection.commit() except: cursor.connection.rollback() Inspecting the DB-API PEP I found out that it does not mention the begin() method for the connection object, even for the extensions. Mysql-python, by the way, throws the Deprecation Warning, when you use the method. sqlite3.connection, for example, does not have the methd at all. And the question is why there is no such method in the PEP? Is the statement somehow optional, is it enough to invoke commit() instead?

    - by Wiretap
Yesterday I got this error The processing instruction target matching "[xX][mM][lL]" is not allowed when I investigated, it was caused by whitespace at the very start of my XML document. Not difficult to solve, but I was struck with how unhelpful that particular error message was to identifying the actual problem. So what other examples of obscure errors do people have, and are you willing to admit to some of your own making.

  • How to map to tables in database PHPMyAdmin

    - by thegrede
I'm working now on a project which a user can save their own coupon codes on the websites, so I want to know what is the best to do that, Lets say, I have 1 table with the users, like this, userId | firstName | lastName | codeId and then I have a table of the coupon codes, like this, codeId | codeNumber So what I can do is to connect the codeId to userId so when someone saves the coupons goes the codeId from the coupon table into the codeId of the users table, But now what if when a user have multiple coupons what do I do it should be connected to the user? I have 2 options what to do, Option 1, Saving the codeId from coupons table into the codeId of users table like 1,2,3,4,5, Option 2 To make a new row into the coupons table and to connect the user to the code with adding another field in the coupon table userId and putting into it the user which has added the coupon his userId of the users table, So what of the two options is better to do? Thanks you guys.

  • SQLAlchemy: select over multiple tables

    Hi, I wanted to optimize my database query: link_list = select( columns=[link_table.c.rating, link_table.c.url, link_table.c.donations_in], whereclause=and_( not_(link_table.c.id.in_( select( columns=[request_table.c.recipient], whereclause=request_table.c.donator==donator.id ).as_scalar() )), link_table.c.id!=donator.id, ), limit=20, ).execute().fetchall() and tried to merge those two selects in one query: link_list = select( columns=[link_table.c.rating, link_table.c.url, link_table.c.donations_in], whereclause=and_( link_table.c.active==True, link_table.c.id!=donator.id, request_table.c.donator==donator.id, link_table.c.id!=request_table.c.recipient, ), limit=20, order_by=[link_table.c.rating.desc()] ).execute().fetchall() the database-schema looks like: link_table = Table('links', metadata, Column('id', Integer, primary_key=True, autoincrement=True), Column('url', Unicode(250), index=True, unique=True), Column('registration_date', DateTime), Column('donations_in', Integer), Column('active', Boolean), ) request_table = Table('requests', metadata, Column('id', Integer, primary_key=True, autoincrement=True), Column('recipient', Integer, ForeignKey('links.id')), Column('donator', Integer, ForeignKey('links.id')), Column('date', DateTime), ) There are several links (donator) in request_table pointing to one link in the link_table. I want to have links from link_table, which are not yet "requested". But this does not work. Is it actually possible, what I'm trying to do? If so, how would you do that?   • LINQ Query returns false when it should be true.

    - by deliriousDev
I have the following LINQ query written by a former developer and it isn't working when it should. public bool IsAvailable(Appointment appointment) { var appointments = _appointmentRepository.Get; var shifts = _scheduleRepository.Get; var city = _customerRepository.Find(appointment.CustomerId).City ?? appointment.Customer.City; const int durationHour = 1; DateTime scheduledEndDate = appointment.ScheduledTime.Add(new TimeSpan(durationHour, 0, 0)); var inWorkingHours = shifts .Where(x => //Check if any available working hours x.Employee.City == city && x.ShiftStart <= appointment.ScheduledTime && x.ShiftEnd >= scheduledEndDate && //check if not booked yet !appointments .Where(a => (appointment.Id == 0 || a.Id != appointment.Id) && a.Employee.Id == x.Employee.Id && ( (a.ScheduledTime <= appointment.ScheduledTime && appointment.ScheduledTime <= EntityFunctions.AddHours(a.ScheduledTime, durationHour)) || (a.ScheduledTime <= scheduledEndDate && scheduledEndDate <= EntityFunctions.AddHours(a.ScheduledTime, durationHour)) )) .Select(a => a.Employee.Id) .Contains(x.Employee.Id) ); if (inWorkingHours.Any()) { var assignedEmployee = inWorkingHours.FirstOrDefault().Employee; appointment.EmployeeId = assignedEmployee.Id; appointment.Employee = assignedEmployee; return true; } return false; } The query is suppose to handle the following scenarios Given An Appointment With A ScheduledTime Between A ShiftStart and ShiftEnd time But Does not match any employees in same city - (Return true, Assign as "Unassigned") Given An Appointment With A ScheduledTime Between A ShiftStart and ShiftEnd time AND Employee for that shift is in the same city as the customer (Return True AND Assign to the employee) If the customer is NOT in the same city as an employee we assign the appointment as "Unassigned" as along as the scheduledTime is within an of the employees shift start/end times If the customer is in the same city as an employee we assign the appointment to one of the employees (firstOrdefault) and occupy that timeslot. Appointments CAN NOT overlap (Assigned Ones). Unassigned can't overlap each other. This query use to work (I've been told). But now it doesn't and I have tried refactoring it and various other paths with no luck. I am now on week two and just don't know where the issue in the query is or how to write it. Let me know if I need to post anything further. I have verified appointments, shifts, city all populate with valid data so the issue doesn't appear to be with null or missing data.
