    What am I getting wrong? A while back I locked down my web hosting service while hardening it or at least trying to. Apache listens on port 80 only and I set up iptables using the following: IPS="list of IPs" iptables --new-chain webtest # Accept all established connections iptables -A INPUT --protocol tcp --dport 80 --jump webtest iptables -A INPUT --match state --state ESTABLISHED,RELATED --jump ACCEPT iptables -A webtest --match state --state ESTABLISHED,RELATED --jump ACCEPT for ip in $IPS; do iptables -A webtest --match state --state NEW --source $ip --jump ACCEPT done iptables -A webtest --jump DROP However looking at my apache logs I notice various log entries in access_log, e.g. 221.192.199.35 - - [16/May/2010:13:04:31 +0100] "GET http://www.wantsfly.com/prx2.php?hash=926DE27C156B40E55E4CFC8F005053E2D81E6D688AF0 HTTP/1.0" 404 206 "-" "Mozilla/ 4.0 (compatible; MSIE 6.0; Windows NT 5.0)" 201.228.144.124 - - [16/May/2010:11:54:16 +0100] "GET /w00tw00t.at.ISC.SANS.DFind:) HTTP/1.1" 400 226 "-" "-" 207.46.195.224 - - [16/May/2010:04:06:48 +0100] "GET /robots.txt HTTP/1.1" 200 311 "-" "msnbot/2.0b (+http://search.msn.com/msnbot.htm)" How are these slipping through? I don't mind the indexing bots (though I am a little surprised to see them get through). I suppose they must be getting through using the ESTABLISHED,RELATED rules. And no, I can't for the life of me remember why the first match state rule is there So 2 questions: is there a better way to set up iptables to restrict access to specified hosts? How exactly are these 3 examples slipping through?

  • INSERT DELAYED on locked tables blocks PHP processes to continue

    Our webservers write some tracking information into a MySQL database (using INSERT DELAYED into MyISAM table). When a huge SELECT query is executed on this table or when it is locked for another reason, the webserver processes (with INSERT DELAYED) are waiting for the database and in some cases the MaxServer limit is reached in Apaches, so they will stop serving requests. We use INSERT DELAYED because The DELAYED option for the INSERT statement is a MySQL extension to standard SQL that is very useful if you have clients that cannot or need not wait for the INSERT to complete. This is a common situation when you use MySQL for logging and you also periodically run SELECT and UPDATE statements that take a long time to complete. Quote from MySQL documentation. I am wondering why the Apache processes are waiting for the INSERT DELAYED to finish. And what can I do to just send the data and forget about it. (Since this is logging data, I do not care if we lose some entries.) Even when the table is locked the PHP script should just go on and should not wait for an answer of MySQL. (We do not want to setup Master-slave for this table but we are thinking about move this data to some NoSQL database. But for now I would like to know why INSERT DELAYED is not working as expected.)

  • Percona system tables corrupted.

    I am having problems setting up mysql replication with a percona as server. accidentally, took a full dump from mysql and restored it on percona and then started,the replication. now when i stop slave and start slave, i am getting the error "[ERROR] Failed to open the relay log './s5-bin.000003' (relay_log_pos 2029993) 110103 9:15:59 [ERROR] Could not find target log during relay log initialization " But show local variables shows the relay_log variable as set in the cnf file.. But the relay-log variable is set to slave-relay-bin alright. I am able to start mysql as a service. But mysqld_safe fails with error "110103 9:19:39 [ERROR] /usr/sbin/mysqld: Can't create/write to file '/var/run/mysqld/mysqld.pid' (Errcode: 2) 110103 9:19:39 [ERROR] Can't start server: can't create PID file: No such file or directory " Am now lost as to what is the problem.

Subsequently I wrote results, but always one and the second correct field would enrolled opposite result. I want it to count the total score etc. .. I hope I have expanded well.     I have a server with a LAN facing address of 192.168.5.100 (eth0) and another LAN facing address of 192.168.6.6 (eth1). On this server I have a Virtualbox instance of fedora running an apache webserver (on port 8080) with a bridged interface to eth1 on the host server with address of 192.168.6.7 Users on the 192.168.6.x network can access the Webserver on the Vbox instance (192.168.6.7) with no problems. My question is what kind of iptables entries or commands should be made/executed so as to allow for users on the 192.168.5.x network to access the webserver on the vbox instance. (I'm hoping their url can be something like: http://192.168.5.100:8080)

    I have difficulty making an Excel-readable file from a table on a Website. The problems very specific to my question are: I have to use IE 7 to access the site. Excel is installed in another computer. The site does not let me view the HTML of the table. Normally, I would simply select the table I want and drag and drop it to Excel. Or, I would view the page source and copy the HTML data. Both do not work in this case. Is there any handy tool out there?

    I've been struggling some time now with a specific problem using Tables in MS Word (2010). I have a table with 2 rows and 2 columns and the last column, the rows are merged. Now it can happen that this last cell will expand, and I would like to have the last row in the first column to be of a fixed height and the first row has to expand. What happens now is that the last row expands and the first row has a "fixed" height. A picture of the behaviour at this moment: And this is how I would like it to behave: I have been looking through all properties and settings, but I don't seem to find any option. Neither can I found anything by searching online (probably not using the exact right keywords). Any help is appreciated.

  • How do I sync a subset of tables between two databases on the same mysql database server

    would like to be able to sync a subset of tables between two mysql databases that are running on the same server. One of the databases acts as the master where inserts, updates and deletes can be made. The second database uses those same tables for read-only operations. I do not want to use federated tables to achieve this. The long term goal will be to separate the 2 databases to multiple servers, The second database that has the subset of tables as read-only may also be replicated a few times over to distribute geographically for load and performance purposes each with unqiue data.... Once that is achieved, I plan to use binlog to replicate those specific tables on the secondary databases. In the meantime, I'd like to keep these tables in sync. Is there a more elegant way to do this than other than using a cronjob and mysqldump?

  • Using Hibernate to do a query involving two tables

    I'm inexperienced with sql in general, so using Hibernate is like looking for an answer before I know exactly what the question is. Please feel free to correct any misunderstandings I have. I am on a project where I have to use Hibernate. Most of what I am doing is pretty basic and I could copy and modify. Now I would like to do something different and I'm not sure how configuration and syntax need to come together. Let's say I have two tables. Table A has two (relevant) columns, user GUID and manager GUID. Obviously managers can have more than one user under them, so queries on manager can return more than one row. Additionally, a manager can be managing the same user on multiple projects, so the same user can be returned multiple times for the same manager query. Table B has two columns, user GUID and user full name. One-to-one mapping there. I want to do a query on manager GUID from Table A, group them by unique User GUID (so the same User isn't in the results twice), then return those users' full names from Table B. I could do this in sql without too much trouble but I want to use Hibernate so I don't have to parse the sql results by hand. That's one of the points of using Hibernate, isn't it? Right now I have Hibernate mappings that map each column in Table A to a field (well the get/set methods I guess) in a DAO object that I wrote just to hold that Table's data. I could also use the Hibernate DAOs I have to access each table separately and do each of the things I mentioned above in separate steps, but that would be less efficient (I assume) that doing one query. I wrote a Service object to hold the data that gets returned from the query (my example is simplified - I'm going to keep some other data from Table A and get multiple columns from Table B) but I'm at a loss for how to write a DAO that can do the join, or use the DAOs I have to do the join. FYI, here is a sample of my hibernate config file (simplified to match my example): <hibernate-mapping package="com.my.dao"> <class name="TableA" table="table_a"> <id name="pkIndex" column="pk_index" /> <property name="userGuid" column="user_guid" /> <property name="managerGuid" column="manager_guid" /> </class> </hibernate-mapping> So then I have a DAOImplementation class that does queries and returns lists like public List<TableA> findByHQL(String hql, Map<String, String> params) etc. I'm not sure how "best practice" that is either.

    I have a three models: listing, category, and site. There is a many to many relationship between listing and site and there is a many to many relationship between listing and category. A listing thus belongs to one or more sites and one or more categories (a listing can appear on multiple sites and multiple categories). Given a site id and a category id, I want a set of all the listings. I understand how to get the listings from a site id (listings = site.listings) and how to get the listings from a category id (listings = category.listings), but how do I get the triple join of the set of listings from both a site id and category id? At the same time, I'm also doing many-to-many relationships, and so requiring unique values on either column of the tables that coordinate the relationships would hamper that. How can I define a primary key on a table such that any given value can be repeated in any column, so long as the combination of values across all columns is never repeated exactly?

    I am creating a users table using JDBC and mysql, each user has a permissions list that comprises Integer values, I am wondering if I should use an array for storing these values and then have only 1 record for this user in the table, or simply create a new table that comprises 2 columns: user ID and permissions, and then have multiple records for each user that specify the user name in one columns and one permission value in the second column, the second option seems to be redundant since a permission value is a simple object that isn't associated with any other objects (like a student and courses list for example, because the course is associated with many other objects, like grade, teacher, etc, so in this case it is natural to have multiple records), but the first one seems to be a bit unnatural to me, so if someone has experience with these things and direct me? thanks

    I have 3 tables. A primary EmploymentPlan table with PK GUID EmploymentPlanID and 2 FK's GUID PrevocServicesID & GUID JobDevelopmentServicesID. There are of course other fields, almost exclusively varchar(). Then the 2 secondary tables with the corresponding PK to the primary's FK's. I am trying to write the LINQ INSERT Method and am struggling with the creation of the keys. Say I have a method like below. Is that correct? Will that even work? Should I have seperate methods for each? Also, when INSERTING I didn't think I needed to provide the PK for a table. It is auto-generated, no? However, it might be possible that data for a particular fruit/vegetable is not present. if it is not present the the column for that should show N/A with white background. I don't want to do recreate the user as this will require more permissions than allowed. My script creates a procedure to drop the tables/sequences, executes the procedure, and then drops the procedure.
