• Making the user change the time in Android

  Android doesn't appear to provide a way for a user application to change the system time. What I would like to do instead is to get the user to change the time. It is easy to open up the Date & Time settings: startActivity(new Intent(android.provider.Settings.ACTION_DATE_SETTINGS)); What I would like to know is: Is it possible to link directly to the set time option? Is it possible to check that the user set the time correctly? I am aware of the TIME_CHANGED broadcast message, but I can't find any documentaion on it

• Local Data Cache - How do I refresh the local db when I add fields to remote db?

  I'm using a Local Data Cache in an ASP.NET 3.5 environment. I made a change in my main database by adding a new field. I double click on my .SYNC file in my project to startup the Local Data Cache wizard again. The wizard starts and I click OK with the hopes that it'll re-query my database and add the new field to the local database file. Instead, I get an error saying "Synchronizing the databae failed with the message: Unable to enumerate changes at the DbServerSyncProvider..." The only way I know to get things working again is to delete the .SYNC file along with the local database and start it from scratch. There's got to be an easier way... anyone know it?

• Stream post URL security and wall post links

  Our app's mobile client can create wall post links to our app's web-facing pages. Since this happens in the context of a mobile app, we do this on behalf of our user using the Graph API's feed/message endpoint. I noticed that the links showing up in the wall posts are being routed through our app's auth dialog, which is NOT what we want. We just want transparent links, without forcing the client to auth our app, similar to what happens when you share to FB in Path. I went ahead and disabled the "Stream post URL option" several hours ago, but we still seem to be getting the re-routed links for wall posts. The target URLs for these links are within the domain we've registered for our Facebook app. Is there anything else I need to do fix this?

• Why do I get a "Day too big" error from Perl?

  I have been helping someone debug some code where the error message was "Day too big". I know that this springs from localtime and the Y2038 bug (most google results appear to be people dealing with cookies expiring well into the future). We appear to have 'fixed' the problem by using time to get the current date. However, given that none of our original dates should have hit the 2038 issue I'm sceptical that we've actually fixed the problem ... Are there other instances that anyone knows of where one would hit "day too big"? OS is Solaris. Sample code - the actual code is quite large and the person I'm working with hasn't actually isolated the offending part (which is why I'm worried the 'fix' is not actually a fix). If I can put together something concise which reproduces the issue I will post!

  I've written a WCF IDispatchMessageInspector, so I can log incomming and outgoing messages. But I'm not sure how to get a nicely-formatted XML string to log. My code looks something like this: public object AfterReceiveRequest(ref Message request, IClientChannel channel, InstanceContext instanceContext) { MessageBuffer buffer = request.CreateBufferedCopy(Int32.MaxValue); request = buffer.CreateMessage(); Log("Received", request.ToString(); return null; } The result of this logging includes things like "ampersand lt;" and some sort of binary-encoded data. • Alter the cruisecontrol log with XSLTLogPublisher

  We build our project from CruiseControl. We have a ant script running some exec commands, and the output of this is placed in the CDATA part of that message, and its priority is set to "info". Now I have created an XSL that modifies this priority depending on the CDATA output, so it creates a new logfile that I want CruiseControl to use. I tried to do this by using XSLTLogPublisher tag like this <xsltlogpublisher directory="${log.dir}" outfile="${logname}" xslfile="${transform}" /> But it doesn't seem to work. No error is logged from cruisecontrol no changes are done in the log file, might it be that cruisecontrol have problems transforming its own log, or are the publishers invoked after the actual log is published as a web page? Can anyone provide some sort of solution to my problem?

Turns out my teamleader has been skilling up the indians behind my back even though I've been spending time and effort preparing a formal handover (to describe the design decisions and why). • Loading zsh as the default shell in gnu screen

  Hello, Im using KUbuntu 10.04 (Lucid Lynx). I have installed zsh and screen. I have set zsh as the default shell, by setting Command to zsh in Settings-Edit Current Profile of the terminal. But,when i launch screen,the bash shell is loaded. If i run the command zsh, then zsh starts but the following message is displayed: "/home/joel/.zshrc:36: Can't add module parameter `mapfile': parameter already exists" Also,zsh is invoked for only the current screen instance and i have to invoke it manually again for other instances. So,is there any way to make screen load zsh by default and invoke it automatically for every instance ? Thank You

• How do you write a consistent UI Automation for MS? MSAA & UI Automation don't seem to overlap.

  Working on a general Automation tool, considering moving from Win32 Message hooks to .net UI Automation, however the feature set of UI Automation doesn't cover all we have in Win32 and still doesn't seem to support all the GUI on Windows. One such example is Windows Live Messenger. Windows Live messenger 2009 is still using the older DirectUIHwnd to draw the gui. This means that you can't use windows messages to send to the controls, because the controls don't have their own HWND. It also seems to defeat the new .net UI Automation framework though the documentation seems to make out as if it can be joined in the UI Automation and Microsoft Active Accessibility document. Looking at MS Accessibility pointed to Active Accessibility 2.0 SDK Tools which showed that MSAA can interact with the contents. Is there some trick to getting the older MSAA technology that UI Automation seems to be trying to replace to actually work with UI Automation? I'd rather not have multiple solutions trying to automate the same windows for windows unlike Windows Live Messenger where each of these techniques is valid and will work.

I have a feeling its because of the fact that 4.3 is not using /Developer folder but instead the /Applications/XCode.app/... • MinGW and "delcaration does not declare anything"

  I'm working on converting a Linux project of mine to compile on Windows using MinGW. It compiles and runs just fine on Linux, but when I attempt to compile it with MinGW it bombs out with the following error message: camera.h:11: error: declaration does not declare anything camera.h:12: error: declaration does not declare anything I'm kind of baffled why this is happening, because I'm using the same version of g++ (4.4) on both Linux and Windows (via MinGW). The contents of camera.h is absurdly simple. Here's the code.   hi there, I have developed a windows application using C# VS 2008 and Sql 2005 express, i have testes the application on my machine and it works fine, my machine is win32 bit, when i tried the application on windows 64bit it keeps giving me an error message on the start of the application,although i installed the sql express on that machine but should i install .NETframwork3.5sp1 64 bit also? , the target machine is widows 7 64bit, also is there a technology or a way to make the application work in the following sequence: 1- the CD is auto run 2- the setup checks for the installed prerequists and install any necessery one without the interference of the user. one last question,should i rebuild the application on an 64 bit machine to make it work on 64 bit machine? thankx

• What does Rails script/server -d do differently that would cause a cells template to not be found

  I'm using cells. I used the generator to create a cell so the path to my template was automatically chosen to be app/cells/displayer/table.html.erb where displayer is the name of the cell and table is the name of the state. When I run script/server in the foreground, everything works perfectly. But when I run script/server -d, I get "Missing template displayer/table.erb in view path app/cells:app/cells/layouts". Even if I change table.html.erb to table.erb, I see the same message - the ActionView code is checking both but not finding either. Even if you're not familiar with cells, does anyone know what happens differently in daemon mode related to view paths? In this case, it appears that the plugin is not correctly registering the view path.

So how do I ensure that the Javascript for the partial view is at the bottom of the page? Especially in cases where the html layout needs to be at the top of the page?

• Jetty 6: Unknown Error 99

  The system I'm developing is comprised of a jetty server (v6.1.2rc4) and a php frontend that sends http requests to jetty via curl_exec. The server and the client are on the same machine. The requests I send can be both POSTs and GETs, I get the same error for either which is: Failed to connect to 127.0.0.1: Unknown error 99 This is rather cryptic. It seems that after the first problematic request, some of the following (unrelated) requests also get corrupted. It looks like jetty is simply refusing the connection, but I can't read more than that into the error message. I thought it was a problem with the server's configuration, so I tried changing jetty's maxIdleTimeMs, but without success. Any idea about what to do is welcome thanks, Silvio

• Urban Airship - not receivng push notifications on device?

  I just installed everything to my app and tried to push, but no messages appear. The token for my device is saved so that's working. When I push, the website says it sent, but no message are received on the device. Right now I'm using a production certificate for push notifications, with a developer provision and not the distribution certificate. I tried cleaning the build and reinstalling but no luck since an extra app was installed from the same one. I used the code that is on the sample file tutorial, I think that's all the details. Don't know what to do next.
