  • Serializing an extended form object

    I've been reading up on this whole subject, but I never came across this specific problem. I already understand that the whole idea of serializing an entire form is a horrible idea and just doesn't work. But, I am encountering a bit of a different problem. I have a class that inherits the "button" form object, that I call DataButton. Now for my problem. I want to be able to serialize this class, but I don't need any of the information from the actual button class. Is there any way to bypass the fact that I can't set the button form object to Serializable() and notify VB that when serialization is to occur, it should simply skip over that information? Theoretically, if such a procedure were possible, I'd be able to do the entire serialization without a hitch. I came up with the idea earlier of removing the "inherits" feature from the class, and having simply a button within the class, but that makes my program really difficult to work with as I am constantly changing the location, size, backgroundImage, text, and whatnot. Thus, immediate updates would be much tougher to work with. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I think it's because Id was specified in the route collection (Global.asax). Is it possible to tell MVC that UserId should map to Id without changing it in the Global.asax

  • UpdatePanel doesn't Refresh

    I have got a simple page with a HtmlInputHidden field. I use Javascript to update that value and, when posting back the page, I want to read the value of that HtmlInputHidden field. The Value property of that HtmlInputHidden field is on postback the default value (the value it had when the page was created, not the value reflected through the Javascript). I also tried to Register the HtmlInputHidden field with ScriptManager.RegisterHiddenField(Page, "MyHtmlImputHiddenField", "initialvalue") but it still only lets me read the 'initialvalue' even though I (through javascript) can inspect that the value has changed. I tried to hardcoded the rowid and, to my surprise, after postback gridview was exactly the same before the delete but the record was deleted from the database.     I'm late to the boat and have only just now started using Core Data in OS X / Cocoa - it's incredible and is really changing the way I look at things. Is there an equivalent technology in C# or the modern Windows frameworks? i.e. having managed data types where you get saving, data management, deleting, searching all for free? Also wondering if there's anything like this on Linux.

    Hi, I'm trying to display all orders placed and I have a primary accessdatasource control that has a select query to get the customer information and the orderID. I want to use the orderID value from this first query as a parameter for the secondary accessdatasource control that selects the product information of the products in the order. In plain english, I want to:- select product info from product table where orderID = ?     I basically need to show a wait window to the user. For this i have put two seperate window forms in the application. the first form is the main form with a button. The second one is a empty one with just a label text. On click of the button in Form1 i do the below Form2 f = new Form2(); f.Show(); Thread.Sleep(2000); f.Close(); My idea here is to show the wait window to the user for 2 second. But when i do this the Form 2 is not completely loaded because of which the label in it is blank. Please let me know your inputs on this.

    I'm developing an iPad application using Core Data, and was hoping someone could clarify something about Core Data. Right now, I populate my table by making a fetch request for all of my data in viewDidLoad. I'd rather make individual fetch requests in my tableView:cellForRowAtIndexPath:. Can anyone tell me which is more efficient, and why? In other words, is it much less efficient to make lots of small requests as opposed to one big request?

  • Disposing a Bitmap through its Finalizer

    I have a complex program in which I have to first create, then use wrappers around bitmaps and send them across a lot of different classes. The problem in the end is deciding which classes should dispose the bitmaps. Most of the time the end classes don't know if they can indeed dispose the bitmap as the same bitmap can be used in several places. Also, I can't just copy the bitmaps because this is a kind of resource intensive algorithm and doing it would be dead slow. I looked up on reflector for Image/Bitmap's implementations and they seem to use the Dispose Pattern. So, even if I don't call Dispose(), the CLR will eventually call it some other time. Is it too bad if I just let the bitmaps be as they are, and let the finalizer take care of them?

    I am attempting to launch a specific form depending on the selected node of a treeview on the doubleclick event. The code I need to use to launch the form is a little bulky becuase I have to ensure that the form is not disposed, and that the form is not already open, before launching a new instance. I'd like to have all of this checking happen in one place at the end of the function, which means that I have to be able to pass the right form type to the code at the end. I'm trying to do this with a System.Type, but that doesn't seem to be working. Could someone point me in the right direction, please?   • Custom librairies with Razor with the release version of MVC 3

    So I'm developing an in-house library for MVC 3 and I want to add it to my project. I added it to my web.config. I added the assembly and added it to the pages - namespaces section and... no. Doesn't work. I tried recompiling, etc... but Razor doesn't like it at all. It's not an intellisense problem... the site can't run if I use my defined namespace. The only way that I made it work was by using the following statements: @using Sample.Helpers I don't want to use it in the pages. I want to be able to deploy it to many projects and adding it to the web.config is definitely the way to go. Anyone ran into this problem?

  • How do I access a <form> that is not the master page <form>?

    Winforms developer converting to web developer. I know the part about the Master Page having the tag, what is not clear is if I can or can not have another in one of my content pages. I have been seeing both answers doing searches. I see yes you can if only one has runat=server. The thing is I have a that contains several radio buttons on a web page that has a master page. I have a .js file that has a function if I send the name into it, it will loop thru the controls in the form to see which one is selected and return the desired date horizon(MTD, QTD, YTD, etc.). When I run this on a non master page web page it works fine. However, when I run on a web page that has a master page I can't seem to get to the element. I tried getElementByID, I tried looping through the page elements, etc. Maybe I am going about this incorrectly and I hope someone can straighten me out. Here is the code from my .js file that may help explain what I am trying to do a little better. var frmDateRanges = document.getElementById(formFieldName); var chosen; var len = frmDateRanges.DateRanges.length; for(i=0;i<len;i++) { if(frmDateRanges.DateRanges[i].checked) { chosen = frmDateRanges.DateRanges[i].value; } } where formFieldName is an arguement that is passed into the function and DateRanges is the name value given to the radio buttons. In the button I call this function I have: onclick ="FunctionCall('frmDateRanges')" FunctionCall is just for description purposes, 'frmDateRanges' is the name and id given to the form action="" Thanks for the help as I am stumped at this point. How could I do that dynamically? Later, I want to use this object as a datasource for a report...but thats the next step. The important facts are: different stored procs return different amount of columns stored procs can have params, but its not required How could I achieve that? Thanks :)
