  • More Oracle VM templates for PeopleSoft and Oracle Enteprise Manager

    - by wcoekaer
Just as I wrote up a blog promoting the Oracle VM Ebusiness suite templates, we also pushed out 2 other products : Oracle Enterprise Manager Cloud Control 12c Oracle PeopleSoft FSCM 9.1 and PeopleTools 8.52.03 They can be downloaded from edelivery. Same advantage... you download the template, import it and you have a completely pre-installed set of products. That's application deployment, not just VM deployment. That's flexibility across the stack, not just a hypervisor, not just virtualization, but a complete solution stack.

  • Programmatically sync dropbox without daemon running

    - by user84207
I would like to 'manually' force dropbox to sync at certain times (eg at regular, daily intervals using cron, as part of a larger backup script). My goal is to substitute the dropbox daemon with single "sync" command invocations at only the times that I control. Looking at the documentation for the dropbox command on Ubuntu, I only see a way to start/stop the daemon, but not to force it to sync. Is there a lower level api available that can accomplish this?

  • How to Use Quick Toggles on Your Android Phone

    - by Chris Hoffman
One of the big new features in Apple’s iOS 7 is Control Center, which allows you to quickly access and toggle common setting from anywhere. However, Android phones have had quick toggles for a long time. Android now has its own built-in quick toggles, while popular manufacturer-customized interfaces like Samsung’s TouchWiz have their own quick toggles, which work differently. You can also add custom quick toggles in different places.

  • What is Advanced Search Operators?

Search engines have set up further tools referred to as advanced search operators to provide power users possibly far more control when searching. Advanced search operators are distinctive phrases which you could insert in your search query for you to come across unique sorts of details of which the common search are not able to offer. A number of of those operators provide beneficial resources for Search engines gurus and other people who want really special data, or perhaps who wish to minimize their particular search to very specific source.

  • How many programmers are female? [closed]

    - by Cawas
Let's just assume gender and sex do matter and this question isn't so pointless as some may say. I believe gender distribution do say a lot about any given job although I find it very hard to explain why. So, is there any source on the web we can use to have a plain high number referencing female versus male programmers on any given space (country, community, company, etc)? Not asking why nor anything else. Just statistical numbers.

  • Why CoffeeScript is tough to maintain

    - by Renso
I recently started trying out CoffeeScript only to find out that it caused more headaches. The abstraction level of jQuery was perfect, it did not dictate to coders how to design their code, it just works. However, I recently posted a request to the CoffeeScript team to consider introducing curly braces to help with more complex code to control the flow of logic. For example a if-then-else with many nested levels can be near impossible to debug without tracing through it when using CoffeeScript. Also with IDEs like Visual Studio, regular JavaScript intellicense and auto-formatting make it easy to appropriate indent nested levels without any work on the part of the developer and reading it is not that hard, especially with some extensions that show vertical lines in the code editor to help see what is nested within what part of the code. However with CoffeeScript that is not the case. The samples given in the CoffeeScript web site are of course just simple examples to explain the features and one gets excited pretty quick over the powerful shortcuts. I tried to convert a piece of JavaScript over to CoffeeScript and gave up since you need to first of all remove ALL non CoffeeScript coding constructs for it to even compile. However js2coffee can help with that. However to keep track of nested levels became something that was simply not manageable using CoffeeScript.Furthermore, any coding language that controls the flow of logic by indentation is extremely dangerous for obvious reasons. I liked CoffeeScript a lot, but the fact that the logical flow of the code is controlled by how much you indent code, spaces or tabs, is not reliable as there is no way the programmer has an easy way of knowing what parts of the code will get hit when the code spans a page. When I suggested introducing curly braces in CoffeeScript the team, one contributor advised me that my code needs to be re-designed! Needless to say that is absurd. When I included a piece of the code he asked my if it was legacy code. It's like saying to a Java programmer, sorry you cannot use Java because we don't agree with how you write your code.jashkenas from the CoffeeScript blog gave some great suggestions and made the point that introducing curly braces would be very problematic for them as they use them to denote objects. Makes sense, but I would still love to see some way to replace code flow control with spaces and indentation to something more concrete and human readable.

  • Modify Ath9k driver and debug with aircrack-ng

    - by user4724
I own an ALFA Adapater with Atheros AR9271. What I would like to do is to edit the driver this device uses (do some modifications in the source) and debug it. I'm really new to this, a start guide would be really appreciated. BTW, my question is similar to the question in this topic: How to modify wireless ath5k driver? but I didn't find an answer to work with (that explains the whole process) Thank you very much in advance

  • What resources are there for facial recognition

    - by Zintinio
I'm interested in learning the theory behind facial recognition software so that I can hopefully implement it in the future. Not just face tracking, but being able to recognize individuals. What papers, books, libraries, or source is available so that I can learn more about the subject? I have found libface which seems to use eigenfaces for recognition. If there are any practitioners out there, please share any information that you can.

  • Can a NodeJS webserver handle multiple hostnames on the same IP?

    - by Matthew Patrick Cashatt
I have just begun learning NodeJS and LOVE it so far. I have set up a Linux box to run it and, in learning to use the event-driven model, I am curious if I can use a common IP for multiple domain names. Could I point, for example, www.websiteA.com, www.websiteB.com, and www.websiteC.com all to the same IP (node webserver) and then route to the appropriate source files based on the request? Would this cause certain doom when it came to scaling to any reasonable size?

  • Java based portal framework

    - by Jatin
We have an application that needs to be built and are looking for some Java based portal framework. In last few days I have gone through over 10 different open source option LiveRay, JetSpeed2, GateIn etc. But they are all too complex to be judged so quickly. Can anyone suggest some framework which is ease to use but has the functionality to handle complex situations. Most importantly, the portlets will run flash/HTML5 contant. Thanks.

  • What's the best Wireframing tool?

    - by DaNieL
Im looking for something similar to iPlotz or Mockup. I've found Pencil Project, but it require xulrunner-1.9 (seem to be incompatible with xulrunner-1.9.2) to be run as a standalone application; However it can be used as a firefox plugin..but is a bit slower. The error on my desktop (ubuntu 10.04) is: Could not find compatible GRE between version 1.9.1 and 1.9.2.* Does anyone know other software? Edit: open-source softwares are preferred, doesnt matter if free.

  • My favourite feature of SQL 2008 R2

    - by Rob Farley
Interestingly, my favourite new feature of SQL Server 2008 R2 isn’t any of the obvious things.  You may have read my recent posts about how much I like some of the new Reporting Services features, such as the map control. Or you may have seen my presentation at SQLBits V on StreamInsight, which I think has great potential to change the way many applications handle data (by allowing easier querying of data before it even reaches the database). Next week the Adelaide SQL Server User Group has...(read more)

  • Why is the sudden increase in number of Git submitters on Debian popcorn graph in 2010-01?

    - by Jungle Hunter
Almost every article I've read 1 comparing Git and Mercurial it seems like Mercurial has a better command line UX with each command being limited to one idea only (unlike say git checkout). But at some point Git suddenly became looking super popular and number of Git submitters on Debian popcorn graph (see graph image below) literally exploded. Source: Debian What happened in 2010-01 that things suddenly changed. Looks like GitHub was founded earlier than that - 2008.

  • What email providers are case sensitive? [on hold]

    - by Thanatos
According to RFC 5321, the local-part of email addresses is case-sensitive. However, most providers that I know of (e.g., GMail) are not case-sensitive. (It's actually more complex than that: GMail ignores .s in emails as well.) Is there a list, or source, of the various rules, including case-sensitivity, for various major email providers? Is there a large-ish email provider than has case-sensitive email addresses?
