  • Prevent event from parent element to child element in jquery

    - by sonam
    I have binded event as below: $(document).delegate('.budget', 'click', function(e){ if ($(this).hasClass('collapsed')) { $(this).removeClass('collapsed'); $(this).addClass('expanded'); } else if ($(this).hasClass('expanded')) { $(this).removeClass('expanded'); $(this).addClass('collapsed'); } }); Basically this toggles between expand and collapse. I have another event binded as below: $('[id^="tree"]').delegate('.collapsed', 'click', function(e){ var elementId = $(this).attr('id'); hideChildElement(elementId); }); The elements binded by the second event binding are parents of elements binded by first event binding. What happens is that on clicking on the element from the first binding event method also triggers the event binded by second event binding. I want to prevent any events from binding from second event binding to 1st event binding method. If element A is binded to click event from first event binding and B is binded to second event binding (A is inside B or A is child of B), I dont want any event of B to propagate to A. Note I tried e.stopImmediatePropagation(); but did not worked

  • Ternary operator or chosing from two arrays with the boolean as index

    - by ajax333221
    Which of these lines is more understandable, faster jsPerf, easier to maintain?: arr = bol ? [[-2,1],[-1,2]] : [[-1,0],[-1,1]]; //or arr = [[[-1,0],[-1,1]], [[-2,1],[-1,2]]][bol*1]; I usually write code for computers (not for humans), but this is starting to be a problem when I am not the only one maintaining the code and work for a team. I am unsure, the first example looks neat but are two different arrays, and the second is a single array and seem to transmit what is being done easier. I also considered using an if-else, but I don't like the idea of writing two arr = .... Or are there better options? I need serious guidance, I have never worried about others seeing my code.

  • jquery animate boxshadow

    - by mstef
    http://jsfiddle.net/mstefanko/w5aAn/877/ Below, i'm achieving the effect I wanted, but with a pending issue. Since i'm using a separate span and positioning it absolute over-top of a box with relative position. I can not access the inputs until after the animation is finished. I'm guessing the only way to alleviate this would be do something similar with just animating the border of the outer box? But nothing I was doing to animate box-shadow:inset was working. HTML <div id="wow"> <span id="pulse"></span> <input id="form-input"/> <input id="form-input"/> </div>? CSS #wow { width: 500px; height: 200px; display: inline-block; position: relative; border: 1px solid black; } #pulse { width: 100%; height: 100%; box-shadow:inset 0 0 20px #6c95c3; -moz-box-shadow:inset 0 0 10px #6c95c3; position: absolute; z-index: 20000; } JS $('#pulse').stop().animate({"opacity": 0}, "fast"); $('#pulse').effect("pulsate", { times:4 }, 500, function() { $(this).remove(); });

  • Calling multiple functions simultaneously with jquery.

    - by clarke78
    I want to loop through an object that contains functions which will execute one after another. My most ideal approach would be to have these chain somehow (ie. func2 waits for func1 and func3 waits for func2) but this needs to happen dynamically and the functions will all have different durations. I'm using jQuery so I thought that perhaps "queue()" may help but I haven't worked with it much. A main concern is to not add any scope/callbacks to the functions within the object. I'd rather somehow enclose them within a parent function to execute within the loop in order to create the callback/chaining. Here's an example of what I've got now, but dumbed down. Thanks for any help! var obj = [ {'name':'func1','callback':function(){ alert(1); }}, {'name':'func2','callback':function(){ alert(2); }}, {'name':'func3','callback':function(){ alert(3); }} ]; $.each(obj, function(x, el) { el.callback(); });

  • Margin for select option in IE and chrome is not working

    - by Sardor
    I am setting a css class to some select options in JS. This class includes margin style. It is working in the FF but not in IE and chrome. window.onload = function() { replace('edit-field-region-tid'); replace('edit-tid'); } function replace(id) { var i = 0; var s = document.getElementById(id); for (i; i < s.options.length; i++) { if (find(s.options[i].text, id, i)) { s.options[i].setAttribute("class", "sub_options"); } } } function find(str, id, option_id) { var i; var s = document.getElementById(id); for (i = 0; i < str.length; i++) { if (str.charAt(i) == '-') { s.options[option_id].text = str.cutAt(0, ""); return true; } } return false; } String.prototype.cutAt = function(index, char) { return this.substr(index+1, this.length); } And CSS: .sub_options{ margin-left:20px; text-indent:-2px; } Any ideas thanks!

  • How to add an item to the top of a dynamic list

    - by user181318
    Like the title states, does anyone out there have a clear way to implement this type of functionality? Example: If you go to http://weewar.com, in their front page you noticed an ajax module that updates every second. However, all of the new items are added to the top of the list. My question is around that very same functionality. Does anyone have an easy and clear idea as to how one would implement this functionality? So far I have a method that initially creates the list, then another method is called in an interval that pulls the most recent data from the server.. However, I'm stuck with, how can I add the new dynamic node to the top of the list. If you can guide me to where I can find this information or give me an idea as to how I can implement this I will be very happy and grateful :) Thanks in advanced.

  • Script (AJAX or JS) does not work properly in IE8

    - by Uno Mein Ame
    I have a js/ajax script at http://worldcitiesdatabase.info/test1/ I just received a complaint that it does not work properly in IE8. Onchange seems to work, but then the next menu is not populated. Can you please help me figure it out? Thanks Not sure what the problematic part of the code is. Here is my guess: if (window.XMLHttpRequest) {// code for IE7+, Firefox, Chrome, Opera, Safari xmlhttp=new XMLHttpRequest(); } else {// code for IE6, IE5 xmlhttp=new ActiveXObject("Microsoft.XMLHTTP"); } newList=""; xmlhttp.onreadystatechange=function() { if (xmlhttp.readyState==4 && xmlhttp.status==200) { newList = xmlhttp.responseText; m1.innerHTML=newList; m1.disabled=false; } if (menuname=="showCountry") { var c1=document.getElementById('showRegion'); if (c1.options.length==2) { if (c1.options[0].value=='NONE') { c1.remove(0); c1.value='0'; reloadmenu(c1); } } } } xmlhttp.open("GET",newFile+".php?q="+menuvalue,true); xmlhttp.send();

  • jquery displaying table rows dynamically in dom belonging to one/more particular class

    - by whatf
    I have the basic html structure: <table> <tbody> <tr class="1"> <td> <p style="font-size:large"> <span class="muted"> This is the first object </span> </p> </td> </tr> <tr class="2"> <td> <p style="font-size:large"> <span class="muted"> This is second object </span> </p> </td> </tr> <tr class="3"> <p style="font-size:large"> <span class="muted"> this is the third object </span> </p> </td> </tr> </tbody> </table> and then I have check boxes, the functionality i want is, if checkbox 1 is checked, only the tr with class 1 be displayed. if checkbox 2 and 3 are clicked, the tr with class 1 gets hidden and 2, 3 show in the dom. again if checkbox 2,*3* are unchecked and 1 is checked tr with class 2, 3 do not show and 1 is showed. • How can I clear content without getting the dreaded "stop running this script?" dialog?

    - by Cheeso
    I have a div, that holds a div. like this: <div id='reportHolder' class='column'> <div id='report'> </div> </div> Within the inner div, I add a bunch (7-12) of pairs of a and div elements, like this: <h4><a>Heading1</a></h4> <div> ...content here....</div> The total size of the content, is maybe 200k. Each div just contains a fragment of HTML. Within it, there are numerous <span> elements, containing other html elements, and they nest, to maybe 5-8 levels deep. Nothing really extraordinary, I don't think. After I add all the content, I then create an accordion. like this: $('#report').accordion({collapsible:true, active:false}); This all works fine. The problem is, when I try to clear or remove the report div, it takes a looooooong time, and I get 3 or 4 popups asking "Do you want to stop running this script?" I have tried several ways: option 1: $('#report').accordion('destroy'); $('#report').remove(); $("#reportHolder").html("<div id='report'> </div>"); option 2: $('#report').accordion('destroy'); $('#report').html(''); $("#reportHolder").html("<div id='report'> </div>"); option 3: $('#report').accordion('destroy'); $("#reportHolder").html("<div id='report'> </div>"); after getting a suggestion in the comment, I also tried: option 4: $('#report').accordion('destroy'); $('#report').empty(); $("#reportHolder").html("<div id='report'> </div>"); No matter what, it hangs for a long while. The call to accordion('destroy') seems to not be the source of the delay. It's the erasure of the html content within the report div. This is jQuery 1.3.2. EDIT - fixed code typo. ps: this happens on FF3.5 as well as IE8 . Questions: What is taking so long? How can I remove content more quickly? Addendum I broke into the debugger in FF, during "option 4", and the stacktrace I see is: data() trigger() triggerHandler() add() each() each() add() empty() each() each() (?)() // <<-- this is the call to empty() ResetUi() // <<-- my code onclick I don't understand why add() is in the stack. I am removing content, not adding it. I'm afraid that in the context of the remove (all), jQuery does something naive. Like it grabs the html content, does the text replace to remove one html element, then calls .add() to put back what remains. Is there a way to tell jQuery to NOT propagate events when removing HTML content from the dom?

  • How to read & write contents of a div from localstorage in chrome extensions?

    - by Minas Abovyan
    I am trying to build an extension that will allow users to put some parameters into a text box in the popup, generate a link using that information and add it to the said popup. I have all that working, but needless to say, it gets flushed every time the user opens the extension anew. I'd like the info that has been put in there to stay, but can't seem to get it to work. Here's what I have thus far: manifest.json { "manifest_version": 2, "name": "Test", "description": "Test Extension", "version": "1.0", "permissions": [ "http://*/*", "https://*/*" ], "browser_action": { "default_title": "This is a test", "default_popup": "popup.html" } } popup.html <!DOCTYPE html> <html> <head> </head> <body> <div id="linkContainer"/> <input type="text" id="catsList"/> <button type="button" id="addToList">Add</button> <script src="popup.js"></script> </body> </html> popup.js function addCats() { var a = document.createElement('a'); a.appendChild(document.createTextNode(document.getElementById('catsList').value)); a.setAttribute('href', 'http://google.com'); var p = document.createElement('p'); p.appendChild(a) document.getElementById('linkContainer').appendChild(p); indexLinks() } function indexLinks() { var links = document.getElementsByTagName("a"); for (var i = 0; i < links.length; i++) { (function () { var ln = links[i]; var location = ln.href; ln.onclick = function () { chrome.tabs.create({active: true, url: location}); }; })(); } }; document.getElementById('addToList').onclick = addCats; My guess is that I need something along the lines of localStorage['cointainer'] = document.getElementById('linkContainer'); at the end of addCats() and a call to something like function loadLocalStorage() { var container = document.getElementById('linkContainer'); container.innerHTML = localStorage['container']; } at the beginning, but doing that didn't work. Not sure what's going wrong. Also,if there is a different way to save users' additions, I'd be open to them.

  • Accessing loop iteration in a sub-function?

    - by DisgruntledGoat
    I'm using the Google Maps API to plot several points on a map. However, in the click event function below, i is always set to 4, i.e. its value after iterating the loop: // note these are actual addresses in the real page var addresses = new Array( "addr 1", "addr 2", "addr 3", "addr 4" ); for (var i = 0; i < addresses.length; i++) { geocoder.getLatLng(addresses[i], function(point) { if (point) { var marker = new GMarker(point); map.addOverlay(marker); map.setCenter(point, 13); GEvent.addListener(marker, "click", function() { // here, i=4 marker.openInfoWindowHtml("Address: <b>" + addresses[i] + "</b>"); }); } }); } So when the marker displays it's using addresses[4] which is undefined. How do I pass the correct value of i to the function?

  • meaning of (\/?) in regex / is (\w+)([^>]*?) a redundancy?

    - by thomas
    this regular expression should match an html start tag, I think. var results = html.match(/<(\/?)(\w+)([^>]*?)>/); I see it should first capture the <, but then I am confused what this capture (\/?) accomplishes. Am I correct in reasoning that the ([^>]*?)> searches for every character except > = 0 times? If so, why is the (\w+) capture necessary? Doesn't it fall within the purview of [^>]*?
