  • node.js: encrypting data that needs to be decrypted?

    - by fancy
    We are using bcrypt for passwords and data that never needs to be decrypted. What should do to protect other user information that does. For this example lets say that we didn't want a users real name to be in plain text in case someone was to obtain the db. This is somewhat sensitive data but also needs to be called from time to time and displayed in plain text. Is there a simple way to do this?

  • Disable a form and all contained elements until an ajax query completes (or another solution to prev

    - by Max Williams
    I have a search form with inputs and selects, and when any input/select is changed i run some js and then make an ajax query with jquery. I want to stop the user from making further changes to the form while the request is in progress, as at the moment they can initiate several remote searches at once, effectively causing a race between the different searches. It seems like the best solution to this is to prevent the user from interacting with the form while waiting for the request to come back. At the moment i'm doing this in the dumbest way possible by hiding the form before making the ajax query and then showing it again on success/error. This solves the problem but looks horrible and isn't really acceptable. Is there another, better way to prevent interaction with the form? To make things more complicated, to allow nice-looking selects, the user actually interacts with spans which have js hooked up to them to tie them to the actual, hidden, selects. So, even though the spans aren't inputs, they are contained in the form and represent the actual interactive elements of the form. Grateful for any advice - max. Here's what i'm doing now: function submitQuestionSearchForm(){ //bunch of irrelevant stuff var questionSearchForm = jQuery("#searchForm"); questionSearchForm.addClass("searching"); jQuery.ajax({ async: true, data: jQuery.param(questionSearchForm.serializeArray()), dataType: 'script', type: 'get', url: "/questions", success: function(msg){ //more irrelevant stuff questionSearchForm.removeClass("searching"); }, error: function(msg){ questionSearchForm.removeClass("searching"); } }); return true; }

  • Accessing loop iteration in a sub-function?

    - by DisgruntledGoat
    I'm using the Google Maps API to plot several points on a map. However, in the click event function below, i is always set to 4, i.e. its value after iterating the loop: // note these are actual addresses in the real page var addresses = new Array( "addr 1", "addr 2", "addr 3", "addr 4" ); for (var i = 0; i < addresses.length; i++) { geocoder.getLatLng(addresses[i], function(point) { if (point) { var marker = new GMarker(point); map.addOverlay(marker); map.setCenter(point, 13); GEvent.addListener(marker, "click", function() { // here, i=4 marker.openInfoWindowHtml("Address: <b>" + addresses[i] + "</b>"); }); } }); } So when the marker displays it's using addresses[4] which is undefined. How do I pass the correct value of i to the function?

  • Trouble with Perfect Scrollbar jQuery

    - by coolpup
    I'm using the Perfect Scrollbar jQuery app (http://www.yuiazu.net/perfect-scrollbar/) for this site: http://thehummingbirdplace.com/ The scrollbar shows up when you hover over the News section, but it won't scroll down to reveal the content. I've used this scrollbar before successfully, so I'm stumped as to what is different now. I haven't been able to replicate this on a simpler page, when I experiment on another page it either works or just vanishes, so I'm not sure why it is successfully showing up, yet not scrolling on the main page. Any help would be appreciated!!

  • jQuery - Programmatically Trigger Event

    - by Sonny
    I need to programmatically trigger a click event that's being handled by jQuery. Here's the current code: var $thumbs = $('#PhotoGalleryThumbs .tile'); var $zoom = $('#PhotoGallery #PhotoGalleryZoom img'); var $description = $('#PhotoGallery #PhotoGalleryDescription'); $thumbs.click(function(event) { event.preventDefault(); var $thumb = $(this); $thumb.addClass('selected') .siblings().removeClass('selected'); $zoom.attr('src', $thumb.children('a').attr('href')); $description.html($thumb.find('img').attr('alt')); }); I am having a mental block working out how to create a function out of the event handling code and then arbitrarily calling it for an element in the $thumbs object.

  • Determining the order of DOM elements

    - by sonofdelphi
    Given two DOM elements, say a and b, how can we determine which comes first in the document? I'm implementing drag and drop for a set of elements. And the elements can be selected in any order, but when they are dragged, these elements need to be moved in the "correct" order.

  • Map works, but throws a popup error at load complainig about wrong api key

    - by Filip
    Ok, I see a lot of people have this problem, but none answer I found either here or at stackoverflow. Problem: Map works super fine! But throws an error at load "This map needs a different api key... sign up at......" Already signed up, already got a key. On some forum post a guy told that in this case map loads twice, once with the wrong key, another with the right one. But Im sure my app loads it once and with the correct key. URL: http://ki.org.ua/ (it will redirect to /projects but I think that it aint a problem cuz i tested without redirection too) Thanks in advance for any suggestion or help.

  • How do I show the selected item in an HTML <select> at the top

    - by Michael Meadows
    I have an HTML select that looks something like this (values are fake) <select size="40"> <option value="1">What would you do if I sang out of tune,</option> <option value="2">Would you stand up and walk out on me?</option> ... more <option value="156">Lend me your ears, and I'll sing you a song,</option> <option selected="selected" value="157">I will try not to sing out of key.</option> <option value="158">Oh, I get by with a little help from my friends.</option> ... more <option value="507">I get high with a little help from my friends.</option> <option value="509">Gonna' try with a little from my friends.</option> </select> The problem that I have is that when displaying the list after loading the page and the selected option is in the middle of the very long list, IE scrolls the selected option to the top of the list (which is what I want). Firefox, Chrome, Opera, and Safari show it at the bottom (which I don't want). I have to assume that IE is doing it wrong since everyone else shows it at the bottom. How can I force the browsers to display the selected item at the top of the list. I do not want to put it at the top of the list, I just want it to scroll such that the selected option is at the top. bonus, it would be even better if I can put it fourth from the top, but I can live without that if it's too difficult.

  • get js file query param from inside it

    - by vsync
    I load this file with some query param like this: src='somefile.js?userId=123' I wrote the below function in 'somefile.js' file that reads the 'userId' query param but I feel this is not the best approach. Frankly, its quite ugly. Is there a better way? function getId(){ var scripts = document.getElementsByTagName('script'), script; for(var i in scripts){ if( scripts.hasOwnProperty(i) && scripts[i].src.indexOf('somefile.js') != -1 ) var script = scripts[i]; } var s = (script.getAttribute.length !== undefined) ? script.getAttribute('src') : script.getAttribute('src', 2); return getQueryParams('userId',s); };

  • jQuery - Wait until image loads before performing function

    - by Steven
    I'm trying to create a simple portfolio page. I have a list of thumbs and an image. When you click on a thumb, the image will change. When a thumbnail is clicked, I'd like to have the image fade out, wait until the image is loaded, then fade back in. The problem I have right now is that some of the images are pretty big, so it fades out, then fades back in immediately, sometimes while the image is still loading. I'd like to avoid using setTimeout, since sometimes an image will load faster or slower than the time I set. Here's my code: $(function() { $('img#image').attr("src", $('ul#thumbs li:first img').attr("src")); $('ul#thumbs li img').click(function() { $('img#image').fadeOut(700); var src = $(this).attr("src"); $('img#image').attr("src", src); $('img#image').fadeIn(700); }); }); <img id="image" src="" alt="" /> <ul id="thumbs"> <li><img src="/images/thumb1.png" /></li> <li><img src="/images/thumb2.png" /></li> <li><img src="/images/thumb3.png" /></li> </ul>

  • Accessing items at deeper levels using children() in jQuery

    - by favo
    Hi, I want to access a simple button in an unknown nested level of a container. Using container.children('button') allows me to access buttons in the first level, i.e.: <div> <button>test</button> </div> Trying to use the same with the following construct: <div> <div> <button>test</button> </div> </div> .. fails, because the button is not a direct children. I could use element.children().children('button') but the depth of the button can change and this feels too strange. I can also write my own function to iterate thru all children to find what I need, but I guess jQuery does already have selectors for this. So the question is: How can I access children in an unknown depth using jQuery selectors? Thank you all in advance for your feedback!

  • mailto: anchor links unloading html5 video in Chrome

    - by Robin Pyon
    I have a very simple page with a <video> tag and an email anchor link: http://jsfiddle.net/6GquX/3/ Clicking the email link in Chrome (OS X 10.8 + Win7, 23.0.1271.97) invokes the beforeunloadchange event and causes the video to unload, which isn't the desired outcome. Curiously enough, if I let the video buffer a bit and then click the email link, the video keeps playing and doesn't unload. To my knowledge this only occurs in Chrome and I'm truly at a loss. Visiting any HTML5 video player site (videojs, flowplayer etc), starting a HTML5 video and then immediately simulating an email click with document.location.href = "mailto:[email protected]" in the dev console yields the same error. However, I'm inclined to think it's the way in which the video has been encoded as I'm unable to recreate the above with a video downloaded from YouTube's HTML5 player: http://jsfiddle.net/6GquX/4/ (source) 1. Is it possible that YouTube are encoding their videos in a particular way to combat this? 2. Are there any strategies / hacks I can employ to get around this?

  • jquery to create array from form data

    - by AndrewStevens
    I've been wrestling with this problem for a couple hours now. Essentially, what I need to do is take the following or similar HTML: <div id="excpdivs"> <div class="excpdiv" id="excpdiv0"> Date: <input name="excp[0][date]"> Open: <input name="excp[0][open]"> Close: <input name="excp[0][close]"> </div> <div class="excpdiv" id="expdiv1"> Date: <input name="excp[1][date]"> Open: <input name="excp[1][open]"> Close: <input name="excp[1][close]"> </div> and get an array similar to the following to a php script: Array ( [0] => Array ( [date] => 2012-09-15 [open] => 3:00 [close] => 5:00 ) [1] => Array ( [date] => 2012-09-16 [open] => 2:00 [close] => 5:00 ) ) My main problem is getting the values from the input elements. My latest attempt is the following: var results = []; $(".excpdiv").each(function(){ var item = {}; var inpts = $(this).find("input"); item.date = $(inpts.get(0)).val(); item.open = $(inpts.get(1)).val(); item.close = $(inpts.get(2)).val(); results.push(item); }); Am I on the right track or am I hopelessly lost?
