  • best practice for passing many arguments to method ?

    - by Tony
    Occasionally , we have to write methods that receive many many arguments , for example : public void doSomething(Object objA , Object objectB ,Date date1 ,Date date2 ,String str1 ,String str2 ) { } When I encounter this kind of problem , I often encapsulate arguments into a map. Map<Object,Object> params = new HashMap<Object,Object>(); params.put("objA",ObjA) ; ...... public void doSomething(Map<Object,Object> params) { // extracting params Object objA = (Object)params.get("objA"); ...... } This is not a good practice , encapsulate params into a map is totally a waste of efficiency. The good thing is , the clean signature , easy to add other params with fewest modification . what's the best practice for this kind of problem ?

  • How to document thrown exceptions in c#/.net

    - by Arnold Zokas
    I am currently writing a small framework that will be used internally by other developers within the company. I want to provide good Intellisense information, but I am not sure how to document thrown exceptions. In the following example: public void MyMethod1() { MyMethod2(); // also may throw InvalidOperationException } public void MyMethod2() { System.IO.File.Open(somepath...); // this may throw FileNotFoundException // also may throw DivideByZeroException } I know the markup for documenting exceptions is: /// <exception cref="SomeException">when things go wrong.</exception> What I don't understand is how to document exceptions thrown by code called by MyMethod1()? Should I document exceptions thrown by MyMethod2() Should I document exceptions thrown by File.Open() ? What would be the best way to document possible exceptions?

In this solutions data posted to database <div id="Div1"> <%= Html.Action("Create")%> </div> View "Create" is strongly typed view. Why is this happening ie why the first solution does not work?

  • Trouble adding Image to a JPanel

    - by user1276078
    I'm making a video game, and I need to add an image to a JPanel and then add that JPanel to a JFrame. All of the tutorials I've seen say to add it to a JLabel, but the image needs to be able to move around. Unless you can move a JLabel around, I can't do that. How would I be able to add an Image directly to a JPanel. This is what I have so far, but it is just like it was on a JApplet class Penguin extends JPanel { public Image image; public void paintComponent( Graphics g ) { image = getImage( getDocumentBase(), "Penguins.jpg" ); g.drawImage( image, 0, 0, this ); } }

  • VB.net: Custom ' TODO: List on an Interface

    - by Shiftbit
    How do I add my own todo and comments list to appear on Interfaces? I want it to pop up like IDisposable does: Public Class Foo : Implements IDisposable Private disposedValue As Boolean = False ' To detect redundant calls ' IDisposable Protected Overridable Sub Dispose(ByVal disposing As Boolean) If Not Me.disposedValue Then If disposing Then ' TODO: free other state (managed objects). End If ' TODO: free your own state (unmanaged objects). ' TODO: set large fields to null. End If Me.disposedValue = True End Sub #Region " IDisposable Support " ' This code added by Visual Basic to correctly implement the disposable pattern. Public Sub Dispose() Implements IDisposable.Dispose ' Do not change this code. Put cleanup code in Dispose(ByVal disposing As Boolean) above. Dispose(True) GC.SuppressFinalize(Me) End Sub #End Region End Class Whenever I enter my own comments and todo list they are never autogenerated like IDisposable Interface does. I would like my own Interfaces to preserve the comments so that I can share my Interfaces with in source documentation.

  • Calculate pixels within a polygon

    - by DoomStone
    In an assignment for school do we need to do some image recognizing, where we have to find a path for a robot. So far have we been able to find all the polygons in the image, but now we need to generate a pixel map, that be used for an astar algorithm later. We have found a way to do this, show below, but the problem is that is very slow, as we go though each pixel and test if it is inside the polygon. So my question is, are there a way that we can generate this pixel map faster? We have a list of cordinates for the polygon private List<IntPoint> hull; The fuction "getMap" is called to get the pixel map public Point[] getMap() { List<Point> points = new List<Point>(); lock (hull) { Rectangle rect = getRectangle(); for (int x = rect.X; x <= rect.X + rect.Width; x++) { for (int y = rect.Y; y <= rect.Y + rect.Height; y++) { if (inPoly(x, y)) points.Add(new Point(x, y)); } } } return points.ToArray(); } Get Rectangle is used to limit the search, se we don't have to go thoug the whole image public Rectangle getRectangle() { int x = -1, y = -1, width = -1, height = -1; foreach (IntPoint item in hull) { if (item.X < x || x == -1) x = item.X; if (item.Y < y || y == -1) y = item.Y; if (item.X > width || width == -1) width = item.X; if (item.Y > height || height == -1) height = item.Y; } return new Rectangle(x, y, width-x, height-y); } And atlast this is how we check to see if a pixel is inside the polygon public bool inPoly(int x, int y) { int i, j = hull.Count - 1; bool oddNodes = false; for (i = 0; i < hull.Count; i++) { if (hull[i].Y < y && hull[j].Y >= y || hull[j].Y < y && hull[i].Y >= y) { try { if (hull[i].X + (y - hull[i].X) / (hull[j].X - hull[i].X) * (hull[j].X - hull[i].X) < x) { oddNodes = !oddNodes; } } catch (DivideByZeroException e) { if (0 < x) { oddNodes = !oddNodes; } } } j = i; } return oddNodes; }

  • Reference to a pointer question

    - by Yogesh Arora
    Please refer to the code below. In this code i am storing the const char* returned by test.c_str() into a reference. My question is Will the data be correctly refering to the contents of test. I am thinking that ptr returned by test.c_str() will be a temporary and if i bound it to a reference that reference will not be valid. Is my thinking correct class RefPtrTest { std::string test; StoringClass storingClass; public: RefPtrTest(): test("hello"), storingClass(test.c_str()) { } } where StoringClass is class StoringClass { const char*& data; public: StoringClass (const char*& input): data(input) { } }

  • A controller method that calls a different method on the same controller

    - by justSteve
    I have a controller method: public ActionResult Details(int id) { Order order = OrderFacade.Instance.Load(id); return View(order); } that is used for 95% of possible invocations. For the other 5% i need to manipulate the value of id before passing to the facade. I'd like to create a separate method within this same controller that executes that manipulation and then calls this (Details) method. What would the signature of that method look like? What is the syntax to call the main Details method? public ??? ManipulatorMethod(int id) { [stuff that manipulates id] [syntax to call Details(manipulatedID)] } mny thx

  • Silverlight MVVM MEF ViewInjection

    - by silverfighter
    Hi all, since my title is buzzword compliant I hope I will get lots of answers to my question or any pointers to the right direction. OK what I usually do is have a ViewModel which contains a list of ViewModels itself. public class MasterViewModel { public ObservableCollection<DetailViewModel> DetailViewModels { get; set; } public DetailViewModel Detail { get; set; } } <ItemsControl ItemsSource="{Binding DetailViewModels}"> <ItemsControl> <ItemsPanelTemplate> <StackPanel /> </ItemsPanelTemplate> </ItemsControl> <ItemsControl.ItemTemplate> <DataTemplate> <views:DetailsView /> </DataTemplate> </ItemsControl.ItemTemplate> </ItemsControl> With this in mind I will now come to my questions. I read a lot of good things about MEF and also saw the dashboard sample of Glenn Block but this was not helping me enough. What I want to do is sidbar (like the windows sidebar). Sidebar = StackPanel ListItems = Gadget ButI want it MVVM style OK I have something like a contract IGadget I implemented an custom Export. [ExportGadget(GadgetType = GadgetTypes.News)] I have my NewsGadgetView.xaml (which implements IGadget) and imports the NewsGadgetViewModel and also makes itself available as ExportGadget. so far so good. With this I can create a set of gadgets. Then I have my SidbarView.xaml which imports a sidebarViewModel. and now I get lost... I thought of something like a GadgetFactory which uses PartCreator to create my Gadgets. but this would sit in my SidebarView.xaml But I want to have control over my Gadgets to add and remove them from my sidebar. So I thought about something like an ObserveableCollection... Which I bind to The GadgetHost is basicaly Grid which will dynamicaly load the Gadget.... So how would I create my sidebar containing different gadgets without knowing which Gadgets are available and have a ViewModel for the sidebar as well as for each gadget?... Thanks for any help....

  • Ways to improve Java Generics and dont say get rid of wildcards and reification.

    - by mP
    Sometimes i like to write up template classes and use type parameters to make the abstract methods more type safe. Template<X> { abstract void doStuff( X ); // NOT public } While type safety is great etc, the problem remains that even though X is not visible to outside code, one must still include the type to avoid warnings. My solution in this case would be to make it possible to define a scope for type parameters (now they are always public). Would other original features besides the obvious would you like.

  • Uses for static generic classes?

    - by Hightechrider
    What are the key uses of a Static Generic Class in C#? When should they be used? What examples best illustrate their usage? e.g. public static class Example<T> { public static ... } Since you can't define extension methods in them they appear to be somewhat limited in their utility. Web references on the topic are scarce so clearly there aren't a lot of people using them. Here's a couple:- http://ayende.com/Blog/archive/2005/10/05/StaticGenericClass.aspx http://stackoverflow.com/questions/686630/static-generic-class-as-dictionary

  • what's the right way to bind sqldatasource to asp:label in asp.net 4.0?

    - by cskilbeck
    Is it possible using Eval? If so, can someone post a short fragment to illustrate? My SqlDataSource returns 1 record with 3 fields, I'd like to Format these into a string. eg: Record Field 'Name' = 'Jack' Field 'Amount' = 100 Field 'Date' = 12.02.2010 asp:Label text should end up being: Welcome Jack, last payment was 100 on 12.02.2010 if another control than asp:Label is appropriate, that would be good to know also.

  • Drupal: re-use same CCK Field in the same content type

    - by Patrick
    hi, I need a sequence of text, image, video CCK fields, repeated twice in my content type. I need to create 2 different groups (I don't want to use multi-upload functionality). I was wondering if I have to create a new field Image - File Upload for the second group, or I can somehow to re-use the first one (which is already added, and I would like to add it twice in the second group as well). thanks

  • compiler warning on (ambiguous) method resolution with named parameters

    - by FireSnake
    One question regarding whether the following code should yield a compiler warning or not (it doesn't). It declares two methods of the same name/return type, one has an additional named/optional parameter with default value. NOTE: technically the resolution isn't ambiguous, because the rules clearly state that the first method will get called. See here, Overload resolution, third bullet point. This behavior is also intuitive to me, no question. public void Foo(int arg) { ... } public void Foo(int arg, bool bar = true) { ...} Foo(42); // shouldn't this give a compiler warning? I think a compiler warning would be kind of intuitive here. Though the code technically is clean (whether it is a sound design is a different question:)).

  • Basic Custom String Class for C++

    - by wdow88
    Hey all, I'm working on building my own string class with very basic functionality. I am having difficulty understand what is going on with the basic class that I have define, and believe there is some sort of error dealing with the scope occurring. When I try to view the objects I created, all the fields are described as (obviously bad pointer). Also, if I make the data fields public or build an accessor method, the program crashes. For some reason the pointer for the object is 0xccccccccc which points to no where. How can a I fix this? Any help/comments are much appreciated. //This is a custom string class, so far the only functions are //constructing and appending #include<iostream> using namespace std; class MyString1 { public: MyString1() { //no arg constructor char *string; string = new char[0]; string[0] ='\0'; std::cout << string; size = 1; } //constructor receives pointer to character array MyString1(char* chars) { int index = 0; //Determine the length of the array while (chars[index] != NULL) index++; //Allocate dynamic memory on the heap char *string; string = new char[index+1]; //Copy the contents of the array pointed by chars into string, the char array of the object for (int ii = 0; ii < index; ii++) string[ii] = chars[ii]; string[index+1] = '\0'; size = index+1; } MyString1 append(MyString1 s) { //determine new size of the appended array and allocate memory int newsize = s.size + size; MyString1 MyString2; char *newstring; newstring = new char[newsize+1]; int index = 0; //load the first string into the array while (string[index] != NULL) { newstring[index] = string[index]; index++; } //load the second string while (s.string[index] != NULL) { newstring[index] = s.string[index]; index++; } //null terminate newstring[newsize+1] = '\0'; delete string; //generate the object for return MyString2.string=newstring; MyString2.size=newsize; return MyString2; } private: char *string; int size; }; int main() { MyString1 string1; MyString1 string2("Hello There"); MyString1 string3("Buddy"); string2.append(string3); return 0; }

  • what is wrong with this insert method in asp.net mvc?

  • C# Enum Flags Comparison

    - by destructo_gold
    Given the following flags, [Flags] public enum Operations { add = 1, subtract = 2, multiply = 4, divide = 8, eval = 16, } How could I implement an IF condition to perform each operation? In my attempt, the first condition is true for add, eval, which is correct. However the first condition is also true for subtract, eval, which is incorrect. public double Evaluate(double input) { if ((operation & (Operations.add & Operations.eval)) == (Operations.add & Operations.eval)) currentResult += input; else if ((operation & (Operations.subtract & Operations.eval)) == (Operations.subtract & Operations.eval)) currentResult -= input; else currentResult = input; operation = null; return currentResult; } I cannot see what the problem is.

  • Thread testing for time

    - by DanielFH
    Hi there :) I'm making a thread for my application that's going to do an exit operation at a given time (only hours and minutes, day/month doesn't matter). Is this the right way to do it, and also the right way to test for time? I'm testing for a 24 hour clock by the way, not AM / PM. I'm then in another class going to call this something like new Thread(new ExitThread()).start(); public class ExitThread implements Runnable { @Override public void run() { Date date = new Date(System.currentTimeMillis()); String time = new SimpleDateFormat("HHmmss").format(date); int currentTime = Integer.parseInt(time); int exitTime = 233000; while(true) { try { Thread.sleep(10000); } catch (InterruptedException e) { e.printStackTrace(); } if(currentTime >= exitTime ) { // do exit operation here } } } Thanks. //D
