  • Should I be regularly shrinking my DB or at least my log file?

    My question is, should I be running one or both of the shrink command regularly, DBCC SHRINKDATABASE OR DBCC SHRINKFILE ============================= background Sql Server: Database is 200 gigs, logs are 150 gigs. running this command SELECT name ,size/128.0 - CAST(FILEPROPERTY(name, 'SpaceUsed') AS int) / 128.0 AS AvailableSpaceInMB FROM sys.database_files;` produces this output.. MyDB: 159.812500 MB free MyDB_Log: 149476.390625 MB free So it seems there is some free space. We backup transaction logs every hour, diff backup 5 nights a week, full backup the other 2 nights of the week.

    Hello to everybody, I was trying to output Excel's data to a text file to use them in MySQL, nevertheless i was not able to find an easy solutio because at the end of each row I have to add manually a "TAB" ! I was wondering how I could take the search input from a user and turn it into a single query. For instance, let's say a user inputted 'blue dogs' in their search query... How could I dynamically update the query to include ('blue', 'dogs') in union and intersection queries?

I use jQuery to allow the the user to select which videos they would like to add to their profile. When i submit the form i would like to populate the hidden field with a comma separated list of video ids. Everything works except that when i try to set the value of the field, in the controller on post, the field comes back empty. I am using the jQuery ajax form plugin. What am i doing wrong that is not allowing the value i set in the field to be sent to the server?

    The compile output says no% in line 240 of the makefile. Here is an extract of that portion in the Makefile: debug/lv.simplon.class.o: c:/SimplonQt/include/lv.simplon.class.cpp $(CXX) -c $(CXXFLAGS) $(INCPATH) -o debug/lv.simplon.class.o c:/SimplonQt/include/lv.simplon.class.cpp I'm loading a project I have saved in my C drive in Windows, but I am not sure what exactly is the cause of the problem.     I have created a custom JiBX marshaller and verified it works. So I tried to reference it with abstract mapping like this: <binding xmlns:tns="http://foobar.com/foo" direction="output"> <namespace uri="http://foobar.com/foo" default="elements"/> <mapping abstract="true" type-name="configuration" class="java.util.HashMap" marshaller="com.foobar.Marshaller1"/> <mapping abstract="true" type-name="overrides" class="java.util.HashMap" marshaller="com.foobar.Marshaller2"/> <mapping name="context" class="com.foobar.Context"> <structure map-as="configuration" field="configuration"/> <structure map-as="overrides" field="overrides"/> </mapping> </binding> However when doing so, when I attempt to build the binding, I receive the following: Error during code generation for file "E:\project\src\main\jibx\foo.jibx" - this may be due to an error in your binding or classpath, or to an error in the JiBX code My guess is that either I'm missing something I need to implement to enable my custom marshaller for abstract mapping, or custom marshallers do not support abstract mapping. I have found the IAbstractMarshaller interface in the JiBX API (http://jibx.sourceforge.net/api/org/jibx/runtime/IAbstractMarshaller.html), however the documentation seems unclear to me on if this is what I need to implement, as well as how it works if so. I have not been able to find an implementation of this interface to work off of as an example. My question is, how do you do abstract mapping with custom marshallers (if it's possible)? If it is done via the IAbstractMarshaller interface, how does it work and/or how should I implement it?

    i'm being dissapointed in programming when some issues can't be placed in my mind. i have file, which starts <?php session_start();?>, and it returns an error Warning: session_start() [function.session-start]: Cannot send session cache limiter - headers already sent (output started at C:\xampp2\htdocs\index.php:1) in C:\xampp2\htdocs\index.php on line 3 and now take a look at the moment, i can't anderstand anyway when i copy the all content of my file into another file, it start working. can somebody explain how can it happen. thanks

    Hi, I am going crazy with this error: Cannot modify header information - headers already sent by... Please note that I know about the gazillion results on google and on stack overflow. My problem is the way I've constructed my pages. To keep html separate from php, I use include files. So, for example, my pages look something like this: <?php require_once('web.config.php'); ?> <!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-transitional.dtd"> <html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml"> <head> <meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=utf-8" /> <title>Login</title> <link rel="shortcut icon" href="images/favicon.gif"/> <link rel="shortcut icon" href="images/favicon.ico"/> <link rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" href="<?php echo SITE_STYLE; ?>"/> </head> <body> <div id="page_effect" style="display:none;"> <?php require_once('./controls/login/login.control.php'); ?> </div> </body> </html> So, by the time my php file is included, the header is already sent. I can't have the header redirect before the output so having output buffering on is the only thing I can do. Naturally it works fine that way - but having to rely on that just stinks. It would be nice if PHP had an alternative way to redirect or had additional parameters to tell it to clear the buffer.

    I have two forms on one page and want to have the input boxes focused based on the URL. So for example: domain.com/Default.aspx#login and domain.com/Default.aspx#register and the javascript I have this: window.document.getElementById('<%=txtUserName.ClientID %>').focus(); window.document.getElementById('<%=txtEmail.ClientID %>').focus(); it might be better if the urls are Default.aspx?action=login actually (not sure if this effects the way in which it would work)

  • How to Work Around Limitations in Generic Type Constraints in C#?

    Okay I'm looking for some input, I'm pretty sure this is not currently supported in .NET 3.5 but here goes. I want to require a generic type passed into my class to have a constructor like this: new(IDictionary<string,object>) so the class would look like this public MyClass<T> where T : new(IDictionary<string,object>) { T CreateObject(IDictionary<string,object> values) { return new T(values); } } But the compiler doesn't support this, it doesn't really know what I'm asking. Some of you might ask, why do you want to do this? Well I'm working on a pet project of an ORM so I get values from the DB and then create the object and load the values. I thought it would be cleaner to allow the object just create itself with the values I give it. As far as I can tell I have two options: 1) Use reflection(which I'm trying to avoid) to grab the PropertyInfo[] array and then use that to load the values. 2) require T to support an interface like so: public interface ILoadValues { void LoadValues(IDictionary values); } and then do this public MyClass<T> where T:new(),ILoadValues { T CreateObject(IDictionary<string,object> values) { T obj = new T(); obj.LoadValues(values); return obj; } } The problem I have with the interface I guess is philosophical, I don't really want to expose a public method for people to load the values. Using the constructor the idea was that if I had an object like this namespace DataSource.Data { public class User { protected internal User(IDictionary<string,object> values) { //Initialize } } } As long as the MyClass<T> was in the same assembly the constructor would be available. I personally think that the Type constraint in my opinion should ask (Do I have access to this constructor? I do, great!) Anyways any input is welcome.
