  • Configuring Multiple ASP.NET MVC Sites To Use a Single Database For Authentication/Membership

    Is it possible for two or more ASP.NET MVC sites to use a single SQL Server database for authentication and other things? Here's how I'm thinking of setting it up: I will combine the current database of each site into one single database, prefixing the tables with the name of the site they belong to. I currently have authentication tables generated by the asp.net_regsql.exe utility. How should I combine those tables? I'm guessing that the way to do it is to somehow set the "application_id" column in those tables... Thanks in advance.

  • Implementing a Suspension or Penalty System for Users in ASP.NET MVC

    I'm writing a site in ASP.NET MVC that will have user accounts. As the site will be oriented towards discussion, I think I need a system for admins to be able to moderate users, just like we have here, on Stack Overflow. I'd like to be able to put a user into a "suspension", so that they are able to log in to the site (at which point they are greeted with a message, such as, "Your account has been suspended until [DATE]"), but are unable to do the functions that users they would normally be able to do. What's the best way of implementing this? I was thinking of creating a "Suspended" role, but the thing is, I have a few different roles for normal users themselves, with different privileges. Have you ever designed a feature like this before? How should I do it? Thanks in advance.

  • Why does apache httpd tell me that my name-based virtualhosts only works with SNI enabled browers (RFC 4366)

    Why does apache give me this error message in my logs? Is it a false positive? [warn] Init: Name-based SSL virtual hosts only work for clients with TLS server name indication support (RFC 4366) I have recently upgraded from Centos 5.7 to 6.3, and by that to a newer httpd version. I have always made my ssl virtualhost configurations like below. Where all domains that share the same certificate (mostly/always wildcard certs) share the same ip. But never got this error message before (or have I, maybe I haven't looked to enough in my logs?) From what I have learned this should work without SNI (Server Name Indication) Here is relevant parts of my httpd.conf file. Without this VirtualHost I don't get the error message.   • Cannont Update control in WPF custom control

    I have created a custom control which holds a button in it. The button is styled, so as to hold a grid with two rows, an image in the first and a TextBlock in the second. I have written an Event Handler for the custom control. When the mouse enters the path of the object the MouseEnter event fires, where I try to change the TextBlock's FontSize and Foreground color, however the control does not update. In contrast, I have tried to modify an regular TextBlock's(not part a custom control and controltemplate) properties, and they update correctly, on the fly. What am I missing here?? Here is the code for the event handler: private void ThemeButton_MouseEnter(object sender, MouseEventArgs e) { InitializeProperties(); TextElement.FontSize = 16; TextElement.Text = "new text"; TextElement.Foreground = Brushes.Red; TextBlock element = MainWindow.FindChild<TextBlock>(MainWindow.StartWindow, "textField"); element.Text = "new text for regular textblock"; element.Foreground = Brushes.Red; } InitializeProperties is a methid that initializes TextElement(typeof TextBlock) and ImageElement(typeof Image) properties. They are not null. The properties are just regular .NET properties.

  • Data structure for grid with negative indeces

    Sorry if this is an insultingly obvious concept, but it's something I haven't done before and I've been unable to find any material discussing the best way to approach it. I'm wondering what's the best data structure for holding a 2D grid of unknown size. The grid has integer coordinates (x,y), and will have negative indices in both directions. So, what is the best way to hold this grid? I'm programming in c# currently, so I can't have negative array indices. My initial thought was to have class with 4 separate arrays for (+x,+y),(+x,-y),(-x,+y), and (-x,-y). This seems to be a valid way to implement the grid, but it does seem like I'm over-engineering the solution, and array resizing will be a headache. Another idea was to keep track of the center-point of the array and set that as the topological (0,0), however I would have the issue of having to do a shift to every element of the grid when repeatedly adding to the top-left of the grid, which would be similar to grid resizing though in all likelihood more frequent. Thoughts?

    I have an ubuntu 12.04 server with zend server CE installed. I now wanted to enable https but after the first steps according to the documentation, 'a2enmod ssl' and 'apache service restart', apache does not listen on 443 but neither on 80, according to netstat -tap | grep http(s)!     Two days ago,a colleague of mine tried to publish an asp.net website (which is built in VS2008 using framework 3.5) to our server,he configured everything in IIS (he made sure that the selected asp.net version is 2.0) and launched the website..at first it was working great but when he tried to click on a specific treeview...BOOM..: "Failed to load viewstate. The control tree into which viewstate is being loaded must match the control tree that was used to save viewstate during the previous request. For example, when adding controls dynamically, the controls added during a post-back must match the type and position of the controls added during the initial request." In that page there were these control: a TreeView and a Placeholder,when the user selects any node then it's controls will be created dynamically into that placeholder..for the first time it's working fine but when (s)he select another node then that issue appears. He called me to help him with this issue,for me this is the first time I see such an issue,scratch my head then I decided to eliminate the possibilities of this issue one by one,at the development machine it's working perfectly,he published the website at the local IIS and again..it's working perfectly,I took a copy of the website and published it into my laptop but no issues at all,so this is means that it's not an issue in the code. So there is something missing/wrong in our server [it has Windows Server 2003],we went to the server and checked on the web-config and the configurations on IIS...nothing wrong so far,so I decided to check if the framework 3.5 is installed or not and the answer: it wasn't installed Of course he assumed that it was installed and there was nothing to tell if it wasn't from the "ASP.Net version" in IIS because frameworks 3.0 and 3.5 will not be listed there [2.0 will be listed there instead],the only way to check if it was installed or not is to search for the framework in this path:[WINDOWS Folder]\Microsoft.NET\Framework or check if it was installed in Add or remove programs. The obvious solution for his case: We installed Framework 3.5 SP1 into our server,did a restart to the machine and it worked ! If anyone faced the same issue and solved it using the same solution or with a different one please post it here to share experience.

  • WPF unwanted grid splitter behaviour

    Hello, I have a simple grid with 3 columns (one of which contains a grid splitter). When resizing the grid and the left column reaches its minimum width, instead of doing nothing it increases the width of the right column. Could anyone help me stop this? I can't set the max width of the right column, because the grid itself also resizes. Here's some sample code that shows the problem.   • Locating SSL certificate, key and CA on server

    Disclaimer: you don't need to know Node to answer this question but it would help. I have a Node server and I need to make it work with HTTPS. As I researched around the internet, I found that I have to do something like this: var fs = require('fs'); var credentials = { key: fs.readFileSync('path/to/ssl/private-key'), cert: fs.readFileSync('path/to/ssl/cert'), ca: fs.readFileSync('path/to/something/called/CA') }; var app = require('https').createServer(credentials, handler); I have several problems with this. First off, all the examples I found use completely different approaches. Some link to .pem files for both the certificate and key. I don't know what pem files are but I know my certificate is .crt and my key is .key. Some start off at the root folder and some seem to just have these .pem files in the application directory. I don't. Some use the ca thing too and some don't. This CA is supposed to be my domain's CA bundle according to some articles - but none explain where to find this file. In the ssl directory on my server I have one .crt file in the certs directory and one .key file in the keys directory, in addition to an empty csrs directory and an ssl.db file. So, where do I find these 3 files (key, cert, ca) and how do I link to them correctly?

  • How can I convince cowboy programmers to use source control?

    UPDATE I work on a small team of devs, 4 guys. They have all used source control. Most of them can't stand source control and instead choose not to use it. I strongly believe source control is a necessary part of professional development. Several issues make it very difficult to convince them to use source control: The team is not used to using TFS. I've had 2 training sessions, but was only allotted 1 hour which is insufficient. Team members directly modify code on the server. This keeps code out of sync. Requiring comparison just to be sure you are working with the latest code. And complex merge problems arise Time estimates offered by developers exclude time required to fix any of these problems. So, if I say nono it will take 10x longer...I have to constantly explain these issues and risk myself because now management may perceive me as "slow". The physical files on the server differ in unknown ways over ~100 files. Merging requires knowledge of the project at hand and, therefore, developer cooperation which I am not able to obtain. Other projects are falling out of sync. Developers continue to have a distrust of source control and therefore compound the issue by not using source control. Developers argue that using source control is wasteful because merging is error prone and difficult. This is a difficult point to argue, because when source control is being so badly mis-used and source control continually bypassed, it is error prone indeed. Therefore, the evidence "speaks for itself" in their view. Developers argue that directly modifying server code, bypassing TFS saves time. This is also difficult to argue. Because the merge required to synchronize the code to start with is time consuming. Multiply this by the 10+ projects we manage. Permanent files are often stored in the same directory as the web project. So publishing (full publish) erases these files that are not in source control. This also drives distrust for source control. Because "publishing breaks the project". Fixing this (moving stored files out of the solution subfolders) takes a great deal of time and debugging as these locations are not set in web.config and often exist across multiple code points. So, the culture persists itself. Bad practice begets more bad practice. Bad solutions drive new hacks to "fix" much deeper, much more time consuming problems. Servers, hard drive space are extremely difficult to come by. Yet, user expectations are rising. What can be done in this situation?

The img folder path is the same and i even placed it in my apdata. I took the code straight from the sample page, and I have even used tigra calender before, but not with asp.net any ideas. Is there another calender tool i should be using?

  • Looking for RESTful Suggestions In Porting ASP.NET to MVC.NET

    I've been tasked with porting/refactoring a Web Application Platform that we have from ASP.NET to MVC.NET. Ideally I could use all the existing platform's configurations to determine the properties of the site that is presented. Is it RESTful to keep a SiteConfiguration object which contains all of our various page configuration data in the System.Web.Caching.Cache? There are a lot of settings that need to be loaded when the user acceses our site so it's inefficient for each user to have to load the same settings every time they access. (and in turn, style, configurations for various pages, etc.) PageTemplate is the View that will be rendered and simply defines a layout for where I'm going to inject the UserControls Can somebody please tell me if I'm completely missing the RESTful point here? I'd like to refactor the platform into MVC because it's better to work in but I want to do it right but with a minimum of reinventing-the-wheel because otherwise it won't get approval.     Whenever I add paddingRight to a column in the flex grid, it adds the padding to the header as well. Is anyone familiar with how I can add paddingRight just to the column and not to the header?   • PCI scan failure for SSL Certificate with Wrong Hostname?

    A client had a PCI scan completed by SecurityMetrics, and it now says they failed due to the SSL certificate for the SMTP port 25 (and POP3s/IMAPS) not matching the domain scanned. Specifically: Description: SSL Certificate with Wrong Hostname Synoposis: The SSL certificate for this service is for a different host. Impact: The commonName (CN) of the SSL certificate presented on this service is for a different machine. The mail server uses sendmail (patched) and provides email service for a number of domains. The server itself has a valid SSL certificate, but it does not match each domain (as we add/remove domains all the time as clients move around). Seems SecurityMerics is the only ASV that marks this as failing PCI. Trustwave, McAfee, etc... do not see this as failing PCI. Is this issue truly a PCI failure? Or is it just SecuritMetrics being wrong?

  • Any problems usinga GoDaddy SSL certificate on a Cisco ASA firewall?

    I need to purchase and install a SSL certificate on my Cisco ASA firewall. This will allow my VPN users to connect to my ASA without receiving the certificate error from the untrusted self assigned SSL certificate that is currently on the ASA. I had good experiences with the SSL certificates that GoDaddy sells. However, I'm concerned about using them. On my web servers I have to also install GoDaddy's "intermediate certificate bundle". On the ASA I do not think that I will be able to preform anything like this. I do not fully understand what the "intermediate certificate bundle" does, but obviously it's important. So my question is can I use a GoDaddy SSL certificate on an ASA without my users getting any type of warning or error about connecting to a site that using an untrusted SSL certificate. I need this to be as simple as possible for my end users and warning messages are always scary :) Thanks!

  • Is HAProxy able to pass SSL requests to Apache + mod_ssl?

    Most of the documentation I've read regarding HAProxy and SSL seems to suggest that SSL must be handled before it reaches HAProxy. Most solutions focus on using stunnel, and a few suggest Apache + mod_ssl infront of HAProxy. Our problem though, is that we use Apache as a reverse proxy to a number of other sites which use their own certificates. Ideally what we'd like, is for HAProxy to pass all SSL traffic to Apache, and let Apache handle either the SSL or reverse proxying. Our current setup: Apache Reverse Proxy -> Apache + mod_ssl -> Application What I'd like to do: HAProxy -> Apache Reverse Proxy -> Apache + mod_ssl -> Application Is it possible to do this? Is HAProxy capable of forwarding SSL traffic to be handled by a server BEHIND it?

  • My IIS server won't serve SSL sites to some browsers
