• iPad UIViewController loads as portrait when device is in landscape

  I have an application with 3 view controllers. They are all have shouldAutoRotateToInterfaceOrientation returning YES. The first two, my main menu and my submenu both autorotate just fine. The third viewcontroller, which programatically loads a UIImageView from a jpg file in the program's bundle, will only display in portrait. In the viewcontroller containing the image, i have this: NSString *imageName = [NSString stringWithFormat:@"%@-00%d.jpg",setPrefix,imageNumber]; UIImageView *pictureView = [[UIImageView alloc] initWithImage:[UIImage imageNamed:imageName]]; pictureView.frame = CGRectMake(0, 0, 1024, 768); [self.view addSubview:pictureView]; and again, I have shouldAutoRotateToInterfaceOrientation returning YES for all orientations. My image shows up, but is sideways, and the 0,0,1024,768 values I used to make my rectangle start from the top right corner going down, instead of starting at the top left and going across (holding in landscape). Am I missing a parameter I need to set in order to ensure the imageview shows up in landscape instead of portrait?

• Bypassing rack version error using Rails 2.3.5

  I'm currently on Dreamhost attempting to run a Rails 2.3.5 app. Here is the situation, Dreamhost's servers have Rails 2.2.2 installed. Of course, I can't update a shared host's rails version, so I froze my Rails in vendor. Rails 2.3.5 requires the rack v1.0.1 gem. Dreamhost uses the rack v1.0.0 gem. So when I try to define: config.gem "rack", :version => "1.0.1" I get: can't activate rack (~> 1.0.1, runtime) for [], already activated rack-1.0.0 for [] So what I really need to do is bypass my app's request to use 1.0.1, and use Dreamhost's 1.0.0. Does anyone know how to configure this? Is it even possible? Thanks for the help.

• How can I pre-authorize authopen?

  I'm using authopen inside one of my programs to modify files owned by root. As can be seen in the screenshot below authopen asks for a admin password. What I'd like to achieve is that the dialog shows my app's name and then passes the authorization to authopen.   I have a view between other views, the order may vary. For example: viewA on top of viewB, on top of viewC, or in another order. Suppose I have viewA, viewB, viewC, viewD and viewE A is on the top and E on the bottom. I need to replace viewC with viewZ, but I need to insert viewZ in the same index of viewC. How do I know, before removing viewC, what index it has, so I can insert viewZ using [self.view insertSubview:viewZ atIndex:?????) and it will be at the same level? thanks for any help.

  Hello, I want to make a 3d scene that loops around on its self. That is to say, if you keep going in any direction, you will loop back to the other side. My current implementation is so bad, it's embarrassing to admit to it. I redraw the each change twenty-seven times, to make a 3x3x3 scene cube. When the user reaches the end of the middle cube, I jump them over to the other side. Maintaining consistency (let alone performance) is a nightmare. Total Disaster. This doesn't seem like it would be an unusual request, so I'm wondering if anyone knows of a more legit solution. Thanks!

• Cisco ASA: Allowing and Denying VPN Access based on membership to an AD group

  I have a Cisco ASA 5505 connecting to an Active Directory server for VPN authentication. Usually we'd restrict this to a particular OU, but in this case users which need access are spread across multiple OUs. So, I'd like to use a group to specify which users have remote access. I've created the group and added the users, but I'm having trouble figuring out how to deny users which aren't in that group. Right now, if someone connects they get assigned the correct group policy "companynamera" if they are in that group, so the LDAP mapping is working. However, users who are not in that group still authenticate fine, and their group policy becomes the LDAP path of their first group, i.e. CN=Domain Users,CN=Users,DC=example,DC=com, and then are still allowed access. How do I add a filter so that I can map everything that isn't "companynamera" to no access?   While ASP.NET MVC seems to be a viable technology praised by a lot of developers, I can't seem to find enough reasons to devote my energy and time for it. The main reason is that I don't find enough .NET jobs asking for it. Companies still use WebForms and it works just fine for them. I am not self employed where I get to choose the technology I like. I would rather use my time improve my skills in SilverLight, JQuery, Javascript, SQL, LINQ.. etc. Even Photoshop! So I got interested in webformsmvp.com. I get to still use WebForms and use better testing methods. Anyone who has experience with it can tell me what they didn't like about it?

• MKMapView not centered on pin

  Hi all, I have an mkmapview that i'm currently adding pins to, but for some reason when I call [mapView setRegion:[detailItem coordinateRegion] animated:YES]; the pin is off-centered (toward the right side of the screen) on the map.   Context: Master server (Java, TCP) monitoring a list of hosted games (a different machine for the master server and for each hosted game server). Any user can host a game on his PC. Hosted games can last weeks or months. Need: Knowing when hosted game servers are closed or no longer reachable. Restriction 1: Can't rely on hosted servers' "gone offline update message", since those messages may never arrive (power down, Internet link cut, etc.) Restriction 2: I'm not sure about TCP's built-in keep-alive, since it would mean a 24/7 open socket with each hosted server (correct me if I'm wrong) Any thoughts?

Also I think that doing account = Users::Account.to_model(hash) is not the right approach. What is wrong? How can I "map" those hash keys to class methods?

I haven't bothered putting a proper authentication scheme into the API yet as I'm ensuring that tests and the basic behavior of the API is working all locally first. Upon testing non-HTTP GET type requests such as HTTP POST/DELETE/PUT, stuff chokes because protect_from_forgery is on by default. How does this work when I'm working in practice since essentially the idea is in a RESTful API that there is no state. The client does not have a session or a cookie associated with the server. Each request is an atomic, self-executed request. The user will supply some credentials to ensure they are who they say they are, but other than that, does protect_from_forgery make sense at this point? Should it remain enabled?

• Why can't I set a custom color-tint for the UINavigationBar?

  I want to change the color on the navigation bar and the documentation states not to attempt to change the 'alpha' value. So, how can I set a color that is not the SDK defined values (e.g., [UIColor redColor], brownColor, etc.) if all the constructors provide an alpha value? I tried getting the current alpha value but that did not help. When I use a custom color, it causes the navigation bar to look like an x-ray (a scraggy, black-on-white).   Are there any limitations with respect to developing ASP.NET and WPF apps using VS 2008/2010 and SQL Server 2008 on Windows 7 Home Premium? I know you can run IIS 7.5 on Home Premium. I Googled and Binged on Home Premium and VS/SQL Server and couldn't find much. It doesn't look like the features missing from Home Premium, domain joining, xp mode, etc... shouldn't prevent one from running and developing in VS/SQL Server. Update I did discover one limitation w/IIS 7.5 and it applies to all versions of Windows 7 I think. You can't create your own self signed SSL certificate specifying a name other than the machine name. You're stuck with your machine name which isn't that big a deal, but it is a change from previous versions.

  I want to start an open source project, but the rise in hosting sites leaves me a little paralyzed with choice. I know a little about several: I never really liked SourceForge's UI but it still feels like the site I think of when I think "open source project hosting". Google Code Project Hosting looks clean and useful but doesn't seem as feature complete as SourceForge. I've heard good things about Launchpad but don't know much about it nor do I know Bazaar (though I'd be interested in learning it). I know almost nothing about GitHub and, like Bazaar, I don't know Git. Does anyone have any experience with these sites or some other cool code host? Any recommendations? • How can I prompt for input using Selenium/Webdriver and use the result?

  I would like to allow for user input and make some decisions based on it. If I do this: driver.execute_script("prompt('Enter smth','smth')") I get a nice prompt, but I cannot use it's value. Is there any way of showing an input box to the user, and use the value typed there? • Stress Test tool for Password Protected Website

  We need to run a stress test on a password protection section of a website we host. What tool (paid or free) would be best for us to use for this? We'd like to be able to create several 'scripts' and then have the stress test simulate X number of users. Each script will have us login as a specific user and then click on some links and submit forms to simulate an actual user. Ideally the software would also create some nice data exports/charts. Server is a linux web server, but we could run this on linux or Windows so software that will run on either is fine.

• Building URL or link in REST ASP.NET MVC

  I want to build a URL at runtime when a resource is render to either XML or JSON. I can do this easily when the view is HTML and is rendering only parts of the resource, but when I render a resource that contains a links to another resource I want to dynamically generate the correct URL according the host (site) and resource specific URI part. <components> <component id = "1234" name = "component A" version = "1.0"> <link rel = "/component" uri="http://localhost:8080/component/1234" /> </component> <components> How do I make sure the 'uri' value is correct?
