  • Unified Parallel C - examples and list of extensions

    - by osgx
Hello Where can I find examples of code, written in "Unified Parallel C"? I also interested in normative documents about this language (standards, reference manuals, online-accessible books and courses). What extensions were added to C to get UPC? Is this dialect alive or dead?

  • Android - Help needed with designing a screen with either table layout or list views

    - by A. Cusano
I am currently developing an android app that is to be a counterpart to its sister iphone prototype. My task is to recreate the screen from a design mockup from the iphone app in android, as shown here (can't display an image as a new user - sorry!): http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v439/thrawn891/iphone.jpg What would be the best layouts / views to use for replicating this screen in an activity? Thanks.

  • Where did the name `atoi` come from?

    - by Earlz
Ok I've been curious about this for a while. In the C language where did they come up with the name atoi for converting a string to an integer? The only thing I can think of is Array To Integer for an acronym but that doesn't really make sense.

  • a good resource or book for architecting object-oriented software

    - by Ygam
I have looked at a couple of books and all I have looked at were just discussing the technicalities of OOP. By technicalities I mean, here's a concept, here's some code, now get working. I have yet to see a book that discusses the architectural process, what are the ways of doing this, why doing this is bad, how to actually incorporate design patterns in a real-world project, etc. Can you recommend a good resource or book? I am mainly programming with PHP but a language-agnostic book/resource would do :)

  • Appstore - An application with only Youtube videos will be accepted?

    - by Pittor
Hi, this is my question... I have a compilation(UITableView) of videos from youtube of a particular gender(funny videos, for example) and I want to know if this app will pass the approval process. These videos are freely accessible by anyone in youtube, but ins't uploaded/recorded by me. This is a concept: http://img263.imageshack.us/img263/3466/img0075.png (obviously with a cool skin design and more options like Favorites, Share with friends, etc) Thanks for reading.

  • Why is the Java VM so popular?

    - by sdudo
There are more and more programming languages (Scala, Clojure,...) coming out that are made for the Java VM and are therefore compatible with the Java Byte-Code. I'm beginning to ask myself: Why the Java VM? What makes it so powerful or popular that there are new programming languages, which seem gaining popularity too, created for it? Why don't they write a new VM for a new language?

  • Worst aspect of Python for a newbie

    - by schickb
I'm wondering specifically what experienced programmers thought when they started developing in Python. I'm sure the answer depends on your background, but my own personal answer is the conversion of basically anything in the language to a True/False value in boolean contexts. Resulting in "oddities" like: if x: not meaning the same thing as: if x == True: I understand why, but it bugs me, and I certainly had to think about it a bit when I first ran into it.

  • How Do I Hide wpf datagrid row selector

    - by Tim Almond
I'm using the WPF DataGrid control to show some details and a select button, and I don't need the grey selector column down the left hand side. It's also ruining the beauty of my design ;) Is there a way to remove it, or how can I style it to match if not?

  • Is there a library / api for reading the contents of a .hlp help file?

    - by boccato
I have a help file for my program and was asked to add a description of the menus in a toolbar as the user browses them. So I thought I could just use the beginning of the menu's description of the help but just cant find how to access the contents of it. I saw WinHelp has a macro language, so I figured maybe through this, but I couldnt find any references on this around. Anybody now some pointers or examples of hot to do this?

  • How to use vim's syntax files in emacs to color the text

    - by Vijayender
Are there any snippets to make emacs use the .vim syntax files found in /usr/share/vim/vimfiles/ for coloring text. Many applications like conky have the vim syntax files like "conkyrc.vim" for vim but not for emacs. So is there an easy way to use those files rather than rewriting a new language-mode for each of those available in vimfiles directory.
