• Voice transmission over LAN using java?

  Hello I'm building a java application which works in a LAN environment, every computer on that LAN have this application installed on it, at some point i need this application to transfer voice simultaneously to all computer over the LAN (voice broadcasting) according to the following mechanism: Only one computer of the LAN can send voice using a microphone(the administrator) All computers receive that voice simultaneously (of course using my application) The voice should be recorded on the administrator computer after finishing the session. Could anyone give me an idea of how to use java in working with voice transmission? What java library can help me do that? Please help, thank you

• StreamReader.ReadToEnd() returning an empty string

  I have a method private static String DecompressAndDecode(byte[] data) { GZipStream decompressor = new GZipStream(new MemoryStream(data), CompressionMode.Decompress); StreamReader decompressed = new StreamReader(decompressor, Encoding.UTF8); String result = decompressed.ReadToEnd(); return result; } I have some GZipped text as input and the result is supposed to be a String representation of this text. The problem is that the method returns an empty string. What is puzzling me is that when I step trough the method in debug mode and reach the return statement the result variable is an empty string but if I create a watch for the decompressed.ReadToEnd() expression it returns me the text. What I would expect at this point is the result variable to contain the text and the decompressed.ReadToEnd() expression evaluating to an empty string. (Reevaluating the decompressed.ReadToEnd() expression returns an empty string as expected). There must be something obvious I'm missing here.

• suggestions for Membership in ASP.NET MVC application

  With this question I am mostly looking for answers from people that have implemented the out-of-the-box ASP.NET membership in their own database - I've set up the tables inside my database and as far as I can see they contain mostly what I need but not everything. I will have the notion of a Firm (Company) to which Users will belong so I will have to associate the aspnet_Users with my Firms table (each user will be a member of exactly one firm). If possible, provide some guidelines how did you do it and what I might run into if I have to modify the table design at some point in the future. Preferably I will be using the default Membership provider. I am having trouble to decide whether to go from scratch or use what ASP.NET already offers.

• Splitting strings using a delimiter in python.

  OK so I have a string that has this: Dan|warrior|54 I'm trying to make so I can use python and split it using | as the delimiter. Here's what I have so far: #!/usr/bin/env python dan = 'dan|warrior|54' print dan.split('|') and that results into this: ['dan', 'warrior', '54'] I know it's incomplete but what do I have to do to finish it? Yes, I tried googling this problem... but it's not happening. :( I want so that I can choose specifically which one from the delimiter so if I was dan.split('|')[1] .. it would pick warrior. See my point?

• Protected Members of Other Instances in Scala

  I just ran into a difficulty while learning Scala. I have an inheritance hierarchy that is essentially equivalent to this: class A { protected def myMethod() = println("myMethod() from A") } class B extends A { def invokeMyMethod(a: A) = a.myMethod() } But trying to compile this sample, I get the error "test.scala:7: error: method myMethod cannot be accessed in A". Coming from Java, my understanding is that protected members should be accessible at any point from a derived class, and nowhere have I seen anything that tells me that protected members in Scala are limited by instance. Does anyone have an explanation for this?

• Java Audit table logging, MySQL equivalent of CONTEXT_INFO.

  Hi, I am looking for the MySQL equivalent of CONTEXT_INFO that is present in SQL Server. Or any other session variable like thing using which I can pass the username to the trigger. I am currently working on logging table data for audit. I need to pass the username of the logged in user to the delete trigger. Any ideas? We are deleting the rows from the table in a few cases and marking them as deleted in others. Any alternate solutions are welcome. I thought of using AOP but it could prove problematic when deleting a cascade. I want to look into Hibernate Interceptors, not sure at this point if that works. If I can find the MySQL equivalent of CONTEXT_INFO, my job is done and elegant as well. Thanks, Julia.

  I hardly see any pointer on the following problem related to Hibernate. This pertains to implementing inheritance using a single database table with a parent-child relationship to itself. For example: CREATE TABLE Employee ( empId BIGINT NOT NULL AUTO_INCREMENT, empName VARCHAR(100) NOT NULL, managerId BIGINT, CONSTRAINT pk_employee PRIMARY KEY (empId) ) Here, the managerId column may be null, or may point to another row of the Employee table. Business rule requires the Employee to know about all his reportees and for him to know about his/her manager. The business rules also allow rows to have null managerId (the CEO of the organisation doesn't have a manager). How do we map this relationship in Hibernate, standard many-to-one relationship doesn't work here? Example code would be appreciated.

• Boost.Thread throws bad_alloc exception in VS2010

  Upon including <boost/thread.hpp> I get this exception: First-chance exception at 0x7c812afb in CSF.exe: Microsoft C++ exception: boost::exception_detail::clone_impl<boost::exception_detail::bad_alloc_> at memory location 0x0012fc3c.. First-chance exception at 0x7c812afb in CSF.exe: Microsoft C++ exception: [rethrow] at memory location 0x00000000.. I can't catch it, breaking at the memory location brings me to kernel32.dll and at this point I cannot say what's going on but it appears that the exception is thrown after the program ends and VS is capable of catching it. • Eclipse CDT on Snow Leopard cannot find binaries

  After upgraded to Snow Leopard, I can no longer run Eclipse CDT project on my computer. While the build process completes without any error, Eclipse does not recognize the binary file it created. When try to point to the binary file in Run Configuration.. dialog, it cannot find any binary in the project. Though executing the file from Terminal works fine. According to a post at on Eclipse forum, this might be a problem that Mach-O parser does not recognize 64-bit binaries. Does anyone know what are the solutions or workarounds to the problem so that I can run/debug my C++ projects on Snow Leopard. UPDATED The solution suggested by Shane, though allowing the binary created to be recognized, does introduce another problem. Since system libraries in Snow Leopard are all 64 bits, it is no longer possible to link the code created with -arch i386 with these libraries, and hence not a feasible solution yet.

  So I am trying to get the cancan gem to work with my rails 3 app and I've hit a problem. I tried to copy the code that Ryan Bates (the creator of the gem) used in his screen cast, but I get an error saying that roles_mask is not a method. I figure that the _mask method was removed from Ruby/Rails at some point, and I'm now wondering what is the replacement. • Use python decorators on class methods and subclass methods

  Goal: Make it possible to decorate class methods. When a class method gets decorated, it gets stored in a dictionary so that other class methods can reference it by a string name. Motivation: I want to implement the equivalent of ASP.Net's WebMethods. I am building this on top of google app engine, but that does not affect the point of difficulty that I am having. • C# best means to store data locally when offline

  I am in the midst of writing a small program (more to experiment with vs 2010 than anything else) Despite being an experiment it has some practical use for our local athletics club. My thought was to access the DB (currently online) to download the current members and store locally on a laptop (this is a MS sql table, used to power the club's website). take the laptop to the event (yes there ARE places that don't have internet coverage), add members to that days race (also a row from a sql table (though no changes would be made to this), record results (new records in 3rd table) Once home, showered and within internet access again, upload/edit the tables as per the race results/member changes etc. So I was thinking i'd do something like write xml files locally with the data, including a field to indicate changes etc? If anyone can point me in a direction i would appreciate it...hell if anyone could tell me if this has a name!!..I'd appreciate it TIA Michael Artz

• What is in scala-android.jar?

  I've been trying to experiment with developing Android applications with Scala. I've gotten to the point where I can get the app to compile, but there are no helper functions for things like: button.setOnClickListener( () => { text.setText("test") }) (I'm talking about the closure there) I see lots of references to scala-android.jar, and have this file in my project, but I'm not sure what it does, or how to use it. I get the feeling it has these helper conversion functions, but I'm not sure. • Infinite loop when adding CATiledLayer to UIView

  I have a UIView in which I add a CATiledLayer and implement 'drawLayer'. If I use a UIViewController and add the layer to a new subview of the controller, then everything is ok. • webbrowser control on form2 vb windows application

  Hi, I have a vb windows application with 2 forms, where form2 is called from form1 using form2.showdialog() I added a web browser control to form2, and I'm getting the following error at the point where form2 is called: Current thread must be set to single thread apartment (STA) mode before OLE calls can be made. Ensure that your Main function has STAThreadAttribute marked on it. I tried: 1) adding STAThread() to the form_load() 2) I added a module to my application, and created a sub main(), with the STAThread attribute applied to it 3) I marked the sub startup() with STAThread() And none of this helped. • libvirt and VirtualBox / Getting Started

  I'm trying to get started on libvirt with VirtualBox as a virtualization solution. I installed everything and VirtualBox itself is running when using their VBoxHeadless command. However, libvirt fails to connect to VirtualBox: # virsh -c vbox:///session libvir: error : could not connect to vbox:///session error: failed to connect to the hypervisor I could not find any hints in the libvirt documentation that point to whether I have to make any domain specific configuration before using virsh. Does anyone have a hint? Or even better, maybe a tutorial that works through the way of using libvirt, virsh or it's APIs (my later goal) from the ground up.

  Our group is currently analysing our procedures for managing formal software releases and integrating with a bug lifecycle. What bug lifecycle model do you use? And why? For example assume a that formal releases are generated for QA once per week. At what point do you mark bugs as resolved? When the developer has committed their changes? When the changes have been reviewed and merged into the release branch? When the formal release candidate has been created? And what process, or features of your bug tracking sofware, do you use for tracking this? Are there any tips/suggestions/recommendations that you can share?

  I've just been playing with Scala, and installed the Eclipse plugin as described at http://www.scala-lang.org/node/94, but after entering the "Hello World" test example and setting up the run configuration as described, I get the following error Exception in thread "main" java.lang.NoSuchMethodError: main For reference the code is package hello object HelloWorld extends Application { println("Hello World!") } I've tinkered a bit with the obvious solutions (adding a main method, adding a singleton object with a main method) but I'm clearly doing something wrong. Can anyone get their test example to work, or point out what I am doing wrong?

• System.Overflow Exception - int32 is too large or small

  I need a little advice. I've got windows service that runs at night. In my development environment, it runs without exception, but when I running it "installed on other machines", when I come in the morning, I'm welcomed with a System.Overflow exception that says that I've set an int32 to value that is too large or small. I've carefully combed the service's c# code, and I have try/catch statements around everything, that should catch any error and write it to a log without completely stopping my service with this overflow exception. But still, it occurs and stops the service. I'd appreciate any conceptual advice on how to pin point what's causing an error such as this.

  I'm considering utilizing the ASP.NET Membership Provider for a few different web apps/tools with a single login approach. REQUIREMENTS User logs in to my.domain.com and sees a list of apps/tools that they have permission to use. The user selects the tool they'd like to use and clicks the link. When the tool opens, it is able to identify that they are currently logged in and who they are to identify any unique permissions to the application. I know that each app could simply point to the same back end Membership Provider DB, however will each app require a login or will it be able to identify if the user is already logged in?

• After minimizing app, on restore, windows pursues mouse pointer

  Hi! I have an application in WPF C# where other than the purpose of what it's done, I customized the close and minimize buttons. The problem is that when I minimize, all is good, I cycle around all other apps, but, when I want to go back to the application, I click in the window in the taskbar, and the window pops up... But when it pops up, the window pursues the mouse pointer throughout the screen...
