• what may cause unexpected log outs?

  Sometimes, my Linux PC unexpectedly closes my session (log out) while I am working, and puts me back the login window. If I have terminal 1 logged with root and 2 logged with another user (without X), these ones are not logged out. For example, for the last three hours, it has happened five times. Other times, it leads to a reboot. So I have investigated: the UPS, but the behaviour is unchanged without it). the temperatures, but everything is fine (cpu, disks, video card). I have started to investigate also: the memory (partially tested - I have to run a full testyt next night). EDIT: totally tested and passed. My configuration is: Linux 2.6.37-tuxonice x86_64 Intel(R) Core(TM) i7 CPU 860 @ 2.80GHz. Any idea please?

• TYPO3 unable to log in

  Hi, My company prepared a new website based on typo3 (don't know the version but they started to prepare it in October 2011 so it's probably from that time. A couple of days ago I got my user name and password but I'm unable to log in (Itried withIE, Firefox and Chrome). Each time I try typo3 behaves like I'd be entering wrong user name orpassword (for sure I'm entering the right one, I also tried other user's data it ended up the same way). I use Windows 7 and Kaspersky Internet Security 9.0.0.736 - might their settings block typo3? I really don't know what to do and can't obtain help from the IT department (in head office in another country)... Thank you for any suggestions in advance.

• Understanding the Value of SOA

  Written By: Debra Lilley, ACE Director, Fusion Applications Again I want to talk from my area of expertise of Fusion Applications and talk about their design fundamentals. If you look at the table below and start at the bottom Oracle have defined all of the business objects e.g. accounts, people, customers, invoices etc. used by Fusion Applications; each of these objects contain all of the information required and can be expanded if necessary.  That Oracle have created for each of these business objects every action that is needed for the applications e.g. all the actions to create a new customer, checking to see if it exists, credit checking with D&B (Dun & Bradstreet < http://www.dnb.co.uk/> ) , creating the record, notifying those required etc. Each of these actions is a stand-alone web service. Again you can create a new actions or subscribe to an external provided web service e.g. the D&B check. The diagram also shows that all of development of Fusion Applications is from their Fusion Middleware offerings. Then the Intelligent Business Process is the order in which you run these actions, this is Service Orientated Architecture, SOA. Not only is SOA used to orchestrate actions within Fusion Applications it is also used in the integration of Fusion Applications with the rest of the Oracle stable of applications such as EBS, PeopleSoft, JDE and Siebel. The other applications are written with propriety development tools so how do they work with SOA? It’s a very simple answer, with the introduction of the Oracle SOA platform each process within these applications was made available to be called as a web service. I won’t go into technically how that is done but what’s known as a wrapper to allow each of them to act in this way was added. Finally at the top of the diagram are the questions that each Fusion Application process must answer, and this is the ‘special’ sauce that makes them so good, the User Experience, but that is a topic for another day, or you can read about it in my blog http://debrasoracle.blogspot.co.uk/2014/04/going-on-record-about-fusion-apps-cloud.html or Oracle’s own UX blog https://blogs.oracle.com/usableapps/ The concept behind AppAdvantage is not new the idea that Oracle technology can add value to your Oracle applications investments is pretty fundamental. Nishit Rao who is in AppAdvantage team provided myself and other ACE Directors with demo kits so that we could demonstrate SOA running with the applications. The example I learnt to build was that of the EBS inventory open interface. The simple concept is that request records can be added to a table and an import run that creates these as transactions in inventory. What’s SOA allows you to do is to add to the table from any source and then run this process automatically whereas traditionally you had to run the process at regular intervals because you didn’t know if the table was empty or not. This may just sound like a different way of doing the same thing but if the process is critical for your business then the interval was very small and the process run potentially many times unnecessarily. Using SOA it only happened when necessary without any delay. • Logging events as an Office 2007 application opens.

  Is it possible to log what a Microsoft Office 2007 application does as it starts up. We are having an issue with Word where it hangs on the splash screen for a particular user and no one else and would like to find out what is causing it to hang. Windows event viewer only shows that the application was terminated unexpectedly because of a hang.

  I keep getting this error in my event viewer on IIS 6. I'm trying to figure out if my error resets my connection (maybe recycles the worker processes?). The error is: An attempt was made to load filter 'C:\Program Files\Software Artisans\FileUp \FileUpIsapi.dll' but it requires the SF_NOTIFY_READ_RAW_DATA filter notification and this notification is not supported in Worker Process Isolation Mode. • Complex reporting on subversion (possibly Export Subversion log into database for reporting)

  What is the best way to do complex reporting on subversion logs like the following for each file? file, directory, last revision date, previous revision date(where revision date is at least 30 older than last), days diff(between revision dates) Since Subversion allows on revision to change multiple files I assume svn log needs to be run against each file individually. Ideas (that don't seem very good): Shell scripting to produce a csv file to be imported to a DB. The following is a start but doesn't show the filename: find . -name "." -print | xargs -l svn log -l 2 Shell scripting to produce XML and then use XSLT to create CSV to import to a DB. It might use a similar command to above but would still have some of the same limitation. Write a program to just parse the log on the whole directory tree, make one insert to DB per revision/file combination, and then query the DB.

  What is the simplest way to log the response-time for a restlet-based webservice? I want to make sure that our webservice has a reasonable response time. So I want to be able to keep an eye on response times, and do something about the requests that take too long. The closest thing I could find is this recipe: http://www.naviquan.com/blog/restlet-cookbook-log, it explains how to change the log format. But there doesn't seem to be a parameter for response times, so probably a completely different approach is needed.

• Separate log files for each web application and shared libraries with log4j

  I have few web applications run on the Tomcat server. Each application contains its own log4j library copy inside its own war. This allows for separate, flexible logging configuration per application. I also have few shared libraries (kept in Tomcat's shared libraries directory). I would like to have shared library loggers output among with the application (which uses them) loggers output (for example: if application A logs to file a.log, and uses library b.jar, I would like b.jar to log also to the a.log file). The problem is, that the shared libraries are loaded by the shared classloader, which causes that they can't access loggers defined by the applications. Is there any solution for this issue?

  Hello, I have a application server for network operations written with JAVA based on Apache Mina. Recently I encounter a strange behavior in my log files. I noticed that the log file is full of @^@^@^@^@^@^@^@^@^@^@^@^.... characters. I mean those unexpected characters are vast amount of as such the log file gets hundreds of GB in a couple of hours! I have no clue about this problem and it is almost impossible to google it. What could be the reason? Are those set of characters any familiar to anybody? I can give more details about the application if needed. Thanks in advance.

  This belongs on Meta but I can't ask it there since, well, I can't log in :-) I'm unable to log into my account using my OpenID, josh.gitlin.name on either StackOverflow or Meta. The error message I receive after entering my OpenID on the login page and pressing "Login" is: Unable to log in with your OpenID provider: Error occurred while sending a direct message or getting the response My alternate OpenID hmblprogrammer.pip.verisignlabs.com doesn't work either. Anything I can try? (And is there any way this question can be associated with my account even though I'm not logged in?)

• IDispatchMessageInspector to log plain-text soap messages?

  I've written a WCF IDispatchMessageInspector, so I can log incomming and outgoing messages. But I'm not sure how to get a nicely-formatted XML string to log. My code looks something like this: public object AfterReceiveRequest(ref Message request, IClientChannel channel, InstanceContext instanceContext) { MessageBuffer buffer = request.CreateBufferedCopy(Int32.MaxValue); request = buffer.CreateMessage(); Log("Received", request.ToString(); return null; } The result of this logging includes things like "ampersand lt;" and some sort of binary-encoded data. RECOVERY is not a recognized SET option. incorrect syntax near _5_log'. i am using visual studio 2010 (also have SQL Server Express installed locally, SQL Server 2008 proper installed at provider (shared)) thnx a lot

I am using apache logger for my logging which creates a log file which works fine with no issues.my question is when i open the log file i get the different messages like messages with INFO,DEBGU,ERROR etc. But i wanted to see the error message in red color in text in my logger file.. is it possible? So in that way if some one opens my log file if some thing is there in red they can clearly can guess that it is an error message.. Is it possible.. • Configuring Hadoop logging to avoid too many log files

  I'm having a problem with Hadoop producing too many log files in $HADOOP_LOG_DIR/userlogs (the Ext3 filesystem allows only 32000 subdirectories) which looks like the same problem in this question: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/2091287/error-in-hadoop-mapreduce My question is: does anyone know how to configure Hadoop to roll the log dir or otherwise prevent this? I'm trying to avoid just setting the "mapred.userlog.retain.hours" and/or "mapred.userlog.limit.kb" properties because I want to actually keep the log files. I was also hoping to configure this in log4j.properties, but looking at the Hadoop 0.20.2 source, it writes directly to logfiles instead of actually using log4j. Perhaps I don't understand how it's using log4j fully. Any suggestions or clarifications would be greatly appreciated.

• What about the Sql transaction log

  Hi, i always thought that the sql transaction log keeps track of all the transactions done in the database so it could help recovering the database file in case of a unexpected power down or something like that So then, in normal usage, when the data is committed and written to disk, it is cleared because all the data is nice and safe in the mdf file. Seeing the ldf file grow and reading some i understand that that is not the case, and it will keep growing, until: you shrink the log. Only at that point all the commited transactions are cleared and the log file is shrinked. I found some sp's who should do this, but also found the theory that you first have to backup the database? That last step doesn't make sense to me, so can anyone tell me of that is correct and if so, why that is?

• Django design question: extending User to make users that can't log in

  The site I'm working on involves teachers creating student objects. The teacher can choose to make it possible for a student to log into the site (to check calendars, etc) OR the teacher can choose to use the student object only for record keeping and not allow the student to log in. In the student creation form, if the teacher supplies a username and a password, it should create an object of the first kind - one that can log in, i.e. a regular User object. If the teacher does not supply a username/password, it should create the second type. The other requirement is that the teacher should be able to go in later and change a non-logging-in student to the other kind. What's the best way to design for this scenario? Subclass User and make username and password not required? What else would this affect?

  So, I have a 'development blog' in a rails app I'm working on right now. I'm using Git for version control and deployment (although right now I'm the only person working on it). Now, when I make changes in Git I put a pretty decent log entry about what I've done. I'd love to have the Git commit log automatically posted to the development blog -- or otherwise available for others to read within the deployed site. Is there an automated way to pull the Git Commit Log into a view in a rails app?

• O(N log N) Complexity - Similar to linear?

  Hey All, So I think I'm going to get buried for asking such a trivial but I'm a little confused about something. I have implemented quicksort in Java and C and I was doing some basic comparissons. The graph came out as two straight lines, with the C being 4ms faster than the Java counterpart over 100,000 random integers. The code for my tests can be found here; android-benchmarks I wasn't sure what an (n log n) line would look like but I didn't think it would be straight. I just wanted to check that this is the expected result and that I shouldn't try to find an error in my code. I stuck the formula into excel and for base 10 it seems to be a straight line with a kink at the start. Is this because the difference between log(n) and log(n+1) increases linearly? Thanks, Gav

• Microsoft Enterprise Logging Application Block - Reading Log File

  Hi, I'm using MS log application block for logging my application event into a file called app-trace.log which located on the c:\temp folder. I'm trying to find the best way to read this file at runtime and display it when the user asks for it. now i have 2 issues: it seems that this kind of feature is not supported by the framework, hence i have to write this reader myself. am i missing something here? is there any better way of getting this data (w/o buffering it in the memory or saving it into another file). if i'm taking the only alternative that left for me, and implementing the reader myself, when i'm tring to do: System.IO.FileStream fs = new System.IO.FileStream(@"c:\temp\app-trace.log", FileMode.Open, FileAccess.Read); i'm getting "File being used by another process c#", probably the file is locked by the application block. is there any way to access and read it anyhow?
