  • What's the easiest and safest way to record data being inputted by a user on a web site

    Apologies, this is a tragically simple question that will bore most of you. I need to implement the simplest "leave your email and we'll contact you" web page. The simplest thing I could think of is doing an HTML form which calls a PHP script which appends the data in some file on the server. Easy to implement, but now I'm wondering if it's totally hackable. Is it? Are there obvious better ways that are still simple? thanks f

  • Are there drawbacks to altering MySQL table data types?

    Hi, I'm wondering that how much worried I should be about data types. I can easily jump from TINYINT to SMALLINT and from SMALLINT to INT, but are there any drawbacks to this? Obviously situations like from text to int will have consequences, but I'm talking about situations like INT-BIGINT, TINYTEXT-TEXT, etc.

    Hi, we are building a PHP script that we need at work to create reports in PDFs the reports will be created by using templates from postgrSQL. so far I found that it can be done with the use of php and odt (openoffice) files [http://www.odtphp.com/] (do you have any other suggestions?) now how I can convert the results to PDF so teachers will get the final reports as PDF any tips? the server has no GUI and I want to make it as simple as possible we tried using PHP to PDF directly with FPDF [http://www.fpdf.org/] but it is really a CPU killer! cheers

    I have the following model @Entity class Element { @Id int id; @Version int version; @ManyToOne Type type; } @Entity class Type { @Id int id; @Version int version; @OneToMany(mappedBy="type") Collection<Element> elements; @Basic(optional=false) boolean disabled; } and would like to allow Type.disabled = true only if Type.elements is empty. Is there a way to do it atomically? I would like to prevent an insertion of an Element in a transaction while the corresponding Type is being disabled by an other transaction.

    I get a St9bad_alloc error which I'm unable to debug. I tried reducing the size of the data structure to eliminate the possibility that I might be running out of memory but that doesn't seem to be the case. These are the relevant files:- gdb backtrace: http://pastebin.com/5hFhHXnL TraceCache.cc: http://pastebin.com/j8vK812j I can't understand how, in the backtrace it jumps from TraceCache.cc:55 to TraceCache.cc:34 whereas in my code I can't see any such path.   • How can i share data/text with other apps that will accept it?

    I have an app that creates a new data entry in a sqlite db with several columns. I would like to have a simple share button on the final activity so they can share the results (or even a simple text field) with apps that accept it (email, mms, twitter, etc..).
