  • Looking for some Feedback on a DB Design

    I'm currently working on a ticketing system which allows our users to submit tickets based on their own needs. i.e. if Department "A" is submitting a ticket they can have certain types of problem categories (such as "Supplies" or "Printer") along with details pertaining to the chosen category. I have laid out a partial db design and i was looking for some feedback on it.   • ASP.NET Controls Not Recognized

    I just installed the release version of Visual Studio 2010, and it looks like there's something wrong with the standard ASP.NET server controls. When I create a basic server control, such as a TextBox, the editor underlines it in green and says (I also get no intellisense for ASP.NET controls): Element 'TextBox' is not a known element. This can occur if there is a compilation error in the Web site, or the Web.config file is missing. The web site builds fine, and the Web.config file is not missing: <?xml version="1.0"?> <configuration> <system.web> <compilation debug="false" targetFramework="4.0" /> </system.web> </configuration> The controls work just fine in the code-behind, and they function correctly when I run the site. Is there some configuration problem here?

String str1="my"; String str2="string"; String concat1=str1+str2; concat1.intern(); System.out.println(concat1=="mystring"); The expression concat1=="mystring" returns true because concat1 has been interned. If the given string mystring is changed to string as shown in the following snippet. String str11="str"; String str12="ing"; String concat11=str11+str12; concat11.intern(); System.out.println(concat11=="string"); The comparison expression concat11=="string" returns false. The string held by concat11 doesn't seem to be interned. What am I overlooking here? I have tested on Java 7, update 11.

Also the reason I have to have these global is because I have around 30 Subs that refer to "Path" Variable... Thanks

    I have the following in code to convert from UTF-8 to ISO-8859-1 in a jar file and when I execute this jar in Windows I get one result and in CentOS I get another.   • Database structure for storing Bank-like accounts and transactions

    We're in the process of adding a bank-like sub-system to our own shop. We already have customers, so each will be given a sort of account and transactions of some kind will be possible (adding to the account or subtracting from it). So we at least need the account entity, the transaction one and operations will then have to recalculate overall balances. How would you structure your database to handle this? Is there any standard bank system have to use that I could mock? By the way, we're on mysql but will also look at some nosql solution for performance boost.

  • How do you create multiple versions of an ActiveX control?

    Hopefully this is a straightforward question, but googling has proved fruitless (and frustrating, to say the least). Links to good documentation would be greatly appreciated. Here's the problem. We have a web application with an associated ActiveX control. (The control wraps a crufty old MFC application if it matters.) Moving forward, we expect to release multiple versions of this application, and each will have a corresponding version of the control. If someone accesses two versions of the web application, then that user should end up with two different versions of the control on his system. (The controls should play nice and not clobber each other.) In addition, I want to automate this process. Our system has a global version number that applies to all components. If we change the version number, the next build should produce a new version of the control. What's the best way to do this?

    Why default factory WON'T return full name of the controllers (with namespaces)?   • Reason for monolithic data files

    Primarily this seems to be a technique used by games, where they have all the sounds in one file, textures in another etc. With these files commonly reaching the GB size. What is the reason behind doing this over maintaining it all in subdirectories as small files - one per texture which many small games use this, with the monolithic system being favoured by larger companies? Is there some file system overhead with lots of small files? Are they trying to protect their property - although most just seem to be a compressed file with a new extension?

  • Drupal Hierarchical Content

    I am currently looking at using either the Taxonomy or CCK module on my Drupal site as a means to create a hierarchical system. However, I'm a little confused on which one would best suit my needs, or if there is something else that would work better. Basically, there will be probably 70 or so "mini-sites" on the website I'm working on, each with a landing page and about 5 sub-pages of detailed information. I need a way to mark those sub-pages as being sub-pages of their parent page, as well as create a menu system to navigate between them. What is the best way this could be done? Is there not a easier way here is what i have int rc = ((System.Data.SqlTypes.SqlInt32)(((System.Data.SqlClient.SqlParameter)(cmd.Parameters["@ReturnValue"])).SqlValue)).Value; In vb.net it was as simple as doing this Dim rc As Integer = Convert.ToInt32(cmd.Parameters("@ReturnValue").Value) Alot easier :-) But the problem with C# is the property Value isn't available unless I Cast to SqlParameter and i also need to cast to Sqltypes.SqlInt32 - i can't just do a standard Convert.ToInt32

I use LsaEnumerateLogonSessions() to get all the logged on sessions in the system. Now I have LUID that represents a log-on, and if I understand correctly, it represents a user that logged on or a build it user like SYSTEM. Now, if user X starts a process, windows gives that process a token that represents X. So here comes my question: Is there a way (in a windows service) to get the user's token from LUID? I know I can get it from a process HANDLE, but that is not what I want... Thanks a lot!

    I am using an @Resource annotation in a class instantiated in a ServletContextListener's contextInitialized(...) method, but the member is always null. Here's my sample code.     Can I kindly ask that we're allowed to login without the OpenID nonsense? This system is so popular that stack-overflow is the only place that I use it. If it is the policy of stack-overflow to prevent people to login, they've succeeded. I am a passive reader. For some reasons, I really don't like the idea of having one Id for all sites. To me, this system is dead in the water. Unless used within organizations I will never use it. Of course, until the government decides to reign us all in. Will you give them a hand?   • Sharing some info with all DLLs pulled into a process

    Hi all, We've got an Enterprise system which has many processes (EXEs, services, DCOM servers, COM+ apps, ISAPI, MMC snapins) all of which make use of many COM components. We've recently seen failures in some of the customer deployments, but are finding it hard to troubleshoot the cause. In order to track down the problem, we've augmented the entire source with logging statements where errors occur. In order to identify which logs came from what processes, the C++ logging code (compiled into all components) uses the EXE name to name the log. This is good for some cases, but not all - COM+ apps, ISAPI and MMC snapins all have system EXE names and the logs end up interleaved. I saw this post about shared data sections which might help, but what I don't understand is who decides what goes in the shared section. Is there any way I can guarantee that a particular piece of code writes into the shared section before anyone else reads it? Or is there a better solution to this problem?

  • Printing from a Windows Service

    Ok, I am trying to print a page from a windows service that I installed using a Visual Studio setup project. At first I set the Account property yo Local System, but it will tell me that there are no printers installed (and there are). So I changed it to user and now it just doesn't print (no error or anything). I did some Googleing and basically it said that "Interact with Desktop" should be enabled. To programatically do this you need to edit the registry settings for this service (which really is second prize). I tried to manually set it on the properties dialog under Services, but then I need to change the Account back to Local System, which brings me back to the "No Printers Installed" problem. Any ideas?
