  • Effectiveness and Efficiency

    - by Daniel Moth
    In the professional environment, i.e. at work, I am always seeking personal growth and to be challenged. The result is that my assignments, my work list, my tasks, my goals, my commitments, my [insert whatever word resonates with you] keep growing (in scope and desired impact). Which in turn means I have to keep finding new ways to deliver more value, while not falling into the trap of working more hours. To do that I continuously evaluate both my effectiveness and my efficiency. EFFECTIVENESS The first thing I check is my effectiveness: Am I doing the right things? Am I focusing too much on unimportant things? Am I spending more time doing stuff that is important to my team/org/division/business/company, or am I spending it on stuff that is important to me and that I enjoy doing? Am I valuing activities that maybe I have outgrown and should be delegated to others who are at a stage I have surpassed (in Microsoft speak: is the work I am doing level appropriate or am I still operating at the previous level)? Notice how the answers to those questions change over time and due to certain events, so I have to remind myself to revisit them frequently. Events that force me to re-examine them are: change of role, change of team/org/etc, change of direction of team/org/etc, re-org, new hires on the team that take on some of the work I did, personal promotion, change of manager... and if none of those events has occurred since the last annual review, I ask myself those at each annual review anyway. If you think you are not being effective at work, make a list of the stuff that you do and start tracking where your time goes. In parallel, have a discussion with your manager about where they think your time should go. Ultimately your time is finite and hence it is your most precious investment, don't waste it. If your management doesn't value as highly what you spend your time on, then either convince your management, or stop spending your time on it, or find different management: Lead, Follow, or get out of the way! That's my view on effectiveness. You have to fix that before moving to being efficient, or you may end up being very efficient at stuff that nobody wants you to be doing in the first place. For example, you may be spending your time writing blog posts and becoming better and faster at it all the time. If your manager thinks that is not even part of your job description, you are wasting your time to satisfy your inner desires. Nobody can help you with your effectiveness other than your management chain and your management peers - they are the judges of it. EFFICIENCY The second thing I check is my efficiency: Am I doing things right? For me, doing things right means that I deliver the same quality of work faster [than what I used to, and than my peers, and than expected of me]. The result is that I can achieve more [than what I used to, and than my peers, and than expected of me]. Notice how the efficiency goal is a more portable one. If, by whatever criteria, you think you are the best at [insert your own skill here], this can change at two events: because you have new colleagues (who are potentially better than your older ones), and it can change with a change of manager (who has potentially higher expectations). That's about it. Once you are efficient at something, you carry that with you... All you need to really be doing here is, when taking on new kinds of work that you haven't done before, try a few approaches and devise a system so that you can become efficient at this new activity too... Just keep "collecting" stuff that you are efficient at. If you think you are not being efficient at something, break it down: What are the steps you take to complete that task? How long do you spend on each step? Talk to others about what steps they take, to see if you can optimize some steps away or trade them for better steps, or just learn how to complete a step faster. Have a system for every task you take so that you can have repeatable success. That's my view on efficiency. You have to fix it so that you can free up time to do more. When you plan a route from A to B - all else being equal - you try to get there as fast as possible so why would you not want to do that with your everyday work? For example, imagine you are inefficient at processing email: You spend more time than necessary dealing with email, and you still end up with dropped email threads and with slower response times than others. How can you improve? Talk to someone that you think is good at this, understand their system (e.g. here is my email processing system) and come up with one that works for you. Parting Thoughts Are you considered, by your colleagues and manager, an effective and efficient person at your workplace? If you are, what would you change if you were asked by your management to do the job of two people? Seriously, think about that! Your immediate reaction may be "that is not possible", but it actually is. You just have to re-assess what things that were previously important will now stop being important, by discussing them with your management and reaching agreement on relative priorities. For example, stuff that was previously on your plate may now have to be delegated or dropped. Where you thought you were efficient, maybe now you have to find an even faster path to completion, perhaps keeping in mind that Perfect is the Enemy of “Good Enough”. My personal experience (from both observing others and from my own reflection) is that when folks are struggling to keep up at work it is because of two reasons: They are investing energy in stuff that they enjoy doing which the business regards as having a lower priority than a lot of other things on their plate. They are completing tasks to a level of higher quality than what is required (due to personal pride) missing the big picture which almost always mandates completing three tasks at good enough quality than knocking only one of them out of the park while the other two come in late or not at all. There is a lot of content on the web, so I strongly encourage you to use your favorite search engine to read other views on effectiveness and efficiency (Bing, Google). • Appengine not liking my .jspx files

    - by Hans Westerbeek
    I have a little app that runs fine on local dev appengine, but appengine itself is not processing my .jspx files. The jspx files are in WEB-INF so they should not be excluded by appengine (as a static resource) I am using Apache Tiles to define my views. So the html produced looks like this: <html xmlns:jsp="http://java.sun.com/JSP/Page" xmlns:c="http://java.sun.com/jsp/jstl/core" xmlns:tiles="http://tiles.apache.org/tags-tiles" > <jsp:output omit-xml-declaration="yes"/> <jsp:directive.page contentType="text/html;charset=UTF-8" /> <jsp:directive.page isELIgnored="false"/> (etc etc) How can I solve this problem?

  • Model Binding using ASP.NET MVC, getting datainput to the controller.

    - by Calibre2010
    Pretty Basic one here guys. I have a View which holds 2 textfields for input and a submit button <%using (Html.BeginForm("DateRetrival", "Home", FormMethod.Post)){ %> <%=Html.TextBox("sday")%> <%=Html.TextBox("eday")%> <input type="submit" value="ok" id="run"/> <% }%> the following controller action which I want to bind the data input is as follows [AcceptVerbs(HttpVerbs.Get)] public ActionResult DateRetrival() { return View(); } [AcceptVerbs(HttpVerbs.Post)] public ActionResult DateRetrival(string submit) { return null; } When I debug this and look in the action methods parameter, the value is null. When I've entered values in both textboxes and and clicked the submit method.

  • DOM and Javascript

    - by Bob Smith
    I let a user reconfigure the location of a set of rows in a table by giving them ability to move them up and down. The changes are done by swapping nodes in the DOM. After the user has moved rows around, when I do a view source, I see the HTML in the original state (before the user made any changes). Can someone explain why that is? My understanding was when we do any DOM operations, the underlying HTML will be changed as well. EDIT: Does that mean on the server side, when attempt to get the state after user's changes, I will be able to get what I need? I am using C#/ASP.NET. Could it be because this is a HTML table (not ASP.NET Server control), that it's not maintaining the state of the changes?

  • Django and ajax image file upload errors and csrf

    - by sharkfin
    I tried out Alex Kuhl's ajax script to upload images to Django 1.4. My first question is why I'm getting an empty page with firebug telling me I have two errors: fileuploader.js (line 4): syntax error <!DOCTYPE html> In my template html: qq is not defined var uploader = new qq.FileUploader( { Here is my entire html file for it: http://pastebin.com/NjbV5gMn This post suggests that either some script has 404'd or the src attribute is empty, which would cause the doctype error. But that doesn't seem to be the case here. As for why qq is not defined, I'm not sure what is wrong. Django can clearly find the fileuploader.js just fine from my static folder. My second question is why the ajax code uses {{ csrf_token }} instead of {% csrf_token %}. But if I use {% csrf_token %}, I get the firebug error: missing } after property list 'csrf_token': '<div style='display:none'<input type='hidden' name='csrfmiddlewaretoken' value='Cx0zFFak6OLgrHiAnFa3k4BPDmn4BgoT' /</div',

  • JCarousel scroll method does not always fire

    - by Scott Faisal
    var carousel = jQuery('#mycarousel').data('jcarousel'); var index = carousel.size() + 1; carousel.size(index); var html = '<li> some html </li>'; carousel.add(index, html); carousel.scroll(index, 1); The very last scroll method fires but not always. Is this a bug in JCarousel? The following is the code for the scroll method in JCarousel: /** * Scrolls the carousel to a certain position. * * @method scroll * @return undefined * @param i {Number} The index of the element to scoll to. * @param a {Boolean} Flag indicating whether to perform animation. */ scroll: function(i, a) { if (this.locked || this.animating) return; this.animate(this.pos(i), a); }

  • IIS 6.0 - ASP Error 0126 Include file not found

    - by André
    Hello, I have a Win Sever 2003 running IIS 6.0 which has only my main website on it and now I am trying to setup a test website which currently is an exact duplicate of the main site. When accessing my main site everything works fine, and has done for a long time. If I access the test site (through 'test.' subdomain) I get this error: Active Server Pages error 'ASP 0126' Include file not found /html/shop/asp/admin/inc/incWeeklySpecialswide3.asp, line 71 The include file '/html/asp/quickfindwithSuburbs31.asp' was not found. The file actually exists, and the paths are correct. I have enabled Parent Paths, replaced the include file path to the full path (http://foo.com/html/asp -etc.), removing the ' / ' at the start of the path and changing the code from ' include ' to ' virtual '. Thanks in advance.

  • Sending the variable's content to my mailbox in Python?

    - by brilliant
    I have asked this question here about a Python command that fetches a URL of a web page and stores it in a variable. The first thing that I wanted to know then was whether or not the variable in this code contains the HTML code of a web-page: from google.appengine.api import urlfetch url = "http://www.google.com/" result = urlfetch.fetch(url) if result.status_code == 200: doSomethingWithResult(result.content) The answer that I received was "yes", i.e. the variable "result" in the code did contain the HTML code of a web page, and the programmer who was answering said that I needed to "check the Content-Type header and verify that it's either text/html or application/xhtml+xml". I've looked through several Python tutorials, but couldn't find anything about headers. So my question is where is this Content-Type header located and how can I check it? Could I send the content of that variable directly to my mailbox? Here is where I got this code. It's on Google App Engines.

  • redirecting to multiple virtual subdomains using htaccess

    - by Gerald Ferreira
    Hi Everyone I am trying to create subdomains via htaccess. The code below does exactly want I want It takes http://domain.com and redirect it to http://www.domain.com Options -Indexes DirectoryIndex index.html index.htm index.asp index.php ErrorDocument 401 http://www.domain.com ErrorDocument 403 http://www.domain.com ErrorDocument 404 http://www.domain.com ErrorDocument 500 http://www.domain.com ErrorDocument 507 http://www.domain.com RewriteEngine On RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^domain.com$ RewriteRule ^(.*) http://www.domain.com/$1 [QSA,L,R=301] AddType text/html .html .htm .asp This is the part I am not to sure of: RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^domain.com/nl$ RewriteRule ^(.*) http://nl.domain.com/$1 [QSA,L,R=301] How can I create virtual subdomains so that if someone goes to http://nl.domain.com it would stay on http://nl.domain.com if someone types http://www.nl.domain.com it would take out the http://www.nl.domain.com and make it http://nl.domain.com also the directory structure for the subdomain would be http://www.domain.com/nl (This is where the actual files will be sitting). so if someone goes to http://www.domain.com/nl it should also redirect to http://nl.domain.com. Thanks in advance for any advice and pointers

  • BeautifulSoup, but for CSS?

    - by MTsoul
    BeautifulSoup parses HTML and offers various ways to manipulate and search within HTML. Is there something similar for CSS? Specifically, I'd like to know if a given HTML text is rendered as bold. Either it has an ancestor that is the <strong> or the <bold> tag (which can be done with BeautifulSoup), or it has an ancestor (or itself) that has CSS attributes with font-weight: bold. Is this possible without resulting to writing my own library?

  • Twitter Bootstrap Collapsible Navbar Duplicating

    I am working on a project using Twitter Bootstrap. One thing that I noticed is that my pages have duplicate navbars when they are defined as collapsible and the page is resized smaller. Here is the duplicate NavBar: Here is the normal width NavBar: Code: <!DOCTYPE html> <html lang="en"> <!--[if lt IE 7]> <html class="no-js lt-ie9 lt-ie8 lt-ie7"> <![endif]--> <!--[if IE 7]> <html class="no-js lt-ie9 lt-ie8"> <![endif]--> <!--[if IE 8]> <html class="no-js lt-ie9"> <![endif]--> <!--[if gt IE 8]><!--> <html class="no-js"> <!--<![endif]--> <head> <meta charset="utf-8"> <meta http-equiv="X-UA-Compatible" content="IE=edge,chrome=1"> <title></title> <meta name="description" content=""> <meta name="viewport" content="width=device-width"> <link rel="stylesheet" href="/assets/css/bootstrap.css"> <style> body { padding-top: 60px; } </style> <link rel="stylesheet" href="/assets/css/bootstrap-responsive.min.css"> <link rel="stylesheet" href="/assets/css/main.css"> <script>window.jQuery || document.write('<script src="/assets/js/vendor/jquery-1.8.1.min.js"><\/script>')</script> <script src="/assets/js/vendor/modernizr-2.6.1-respond-1.1.0.min.js"></script> </head> <body class="dark"> <!--[if lt IE 9]> <p class="chromeframe">You are using an outdated browser. <a href="http://browsehappy.com/">Upgrade your browser today</a> or <a href="http://www.google.com/chromeframe/?redirect=true">install Google Chrome Frame</a> to better experience this site.</p> <![endif]--> <div class="navbar navbar-inverse navbar-fixed-top"> <div class="navbar-inner"> <div class="container"> <a class="btn btn-navbar" data-toggle="collapse" data-target=".nav-collapse"> <span class="icon-bar"></span> <span class="icon-bar"></span> <span class="icon-bar"></span> </a> <a class="brand" href="#">Project name</a> <div class="nav-collapse collapse"> <ul class="nav"> <li class="active"><a href="#">Home</a></li> <li><a href="#about">About</a></li> <li><a href="#contact">Contact</a></li> <li class="dropdown"> <a href="#" class="dropdown-toggle" data-toggle="dropdown">Dropdown <b class="caret"></b></a> <ul class="dropdown-menu"> <li><a href="#">Action</a></li> <li><a href="#">Another action</a></li> <li><a href="#">Something else here</a></li> <li class="divider"></li> <li class="nav-header">Nav header</li> <li><a href="#">Separated link</a></li> <li><a href="#">One more separated link</a></li> </ul> </li> </ul> </div><!--/.nav-collapse --> </div> </div> </div> Has anyone else run into this and have some pointers?

  • Multiple CSS Classes: Properties Overlapping based on the order defined.

    - by Jian Lin
    Is there a rule in CSS that determines the cascading order when multiple classes are defined on an element? (class="one two" vs class="two one") Right now, there seems to be no such effect. Example: both divs are orange in color on Firefox <!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.01//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/html4/strict.dtd"> <html> <head> <style> .one { border: 6px dashed green } .two { border: 6px dashed orange } </style> </head> <body> <div class="one two"> hello world </div> <div class="two one"> hello world </div>

  • Script Errors in Silverlight WebBrowser Control

    - by Whiskas
    Hi, I am showing a HTML page with a Flash video player on it in a Silverlight app using the WebBrowser control. The site itself is displayed perfectly and everything works just fine. But when I want to close the player component, I somehow need to completely dispose the current HTML page with the flash player. I tried navigating to about:blank, or even to other pages like google.com before the player component is hidden. But the flash video keeps on playing and the WebBrowser shows several Script Errors, which must be clicked in order to really leave the flash page. Is there any way to instantly "clear" the WebBrowser control or to surpress the Script Errors so that it leaves the html/flash page? In WPF there seem to be some methods for that, but I couldnt find any on the Silverlight WebBrowser control. Any hints are appreciated, Whiskas

  • Ruby on Rails - where to write business logic while processing a request? (newbie)

    - by Genadinik
    I am learning Ruby on Rails. I made a simple link like this: <%= link_to "Alex Link", alexes_path(@alex) %> then I routed it in routes.rb like this: resources :alexes get "home/index" then I am a bit unclear, but I think it goes to this part of the controller: def index #@alexes = Alex.all respond_to do |format| format.html # index.html.erb format.json { render json: @alexes } end end Am I correct that it goes to this part of the controller? Then nothing much happens and it goes to the next page which is index.html.rb under views\alexes So what I am wondering is - if I needed to do some business logic, would I write that in the controller snippet? Where inside the snippet? An example would be nice to take a look. Also, I would like to connect to a MongoDb database. Would I also write that in the middle of the controller? Thanks!

  • Refactoring an ERB Template to Haml

    - by Liam McLennan
    ERB is the default view templating system used by Ruby on Rails. Haml is an alternative templating system that uses whitespace to represent document structure. The example from the haml website shows the following equivalent markup: Haml ERB #profile .left.column #date= print_date #address= current_user.address .right.column #email= current_user.email #bio= current_user.bio <div id="profile"> <div class="left column"> <div id="date"><%= print_date %></div> <div id="address"><%= current_user.address %></div> </div> <div class="right column"> <div id="email"><%= current_user.email %></div> <div id="bio"><%= current_user.bio %></div> </div> </div> I like haml because it is concise and the significant whitespace makes it easy to see the structure at a glance. This post is about a ruby project but nhaml makes haml available for asp.net MVC also. The ERB Template Today I spent some time refactoring an ERB template to Haml. The template is called list.html.erb and its purpose is to render a list of tweets (twitter messages). <style> form { float: left; } </style> <h1>Tweets</h1> <table> <thead><tr><th></th><th>System</th><th>Human</th><th></th></tr></thead> <% @tweets.each do |tweet| %> <tr> <td><%= h(tweet['text']) %></td> <td><%= h(tweet['system_classification']) %></td> <td><%= h(tweet['human_classification']) %></td> <td><form action="/tweet/rate" method="post"> <%= token_tag %> <input type="submit" value="Positive"/> <input type="hidden" value="<%= tweet['id']%>" name="id" /> <input type="hidden" value="positive" name="rating" /> </form> <form action="/tweet/rate" method="post"> <%= token_tag %> <input type="submit" value="Neutral"/> <input type="hidden" value="<%= tweet['id']%>" name="id" /> <input type="hidden" value="neutral" name="rating" /> </form> <form action="/tweet/rate" method="post"> <%= token_tag %> <input type="submit" value="Negative"/> <input type="hidden" value="<%= tweet['id']%>" name="id" /> <input type="hidden" value="negative" name="rating" /> </form> </td> </tr> <% end %> </table> Haml Template: Take 1 My first step was to convert this page to a Haml template in place. Directly translating the ERB template to Haml resulted in: list.haml %style form {float: left;} %h1 Tweets %table %thead %tr %th %th System %th Human %th %tbody - @tweets.each do |tweet| %tr %td= tweet['text'] %td= tweet['system_classification'] %td= tweet['human_classification'] %td %form{ :action=>"/tweet/rate", :method=>"post"} = token_tag <input type="submit" value="Positive"/> <input type="hidden" value="positive" name="rating" /> %input{ :type=>"hidden", :value => tweet['id']} %form{ :action=>"/tweet/rate", :method=>"post"} = token_tag <input type="submit" value="Neutral"/> <input type="hidden" value="neutral" name="rating" /> %input{ :type=>"hidden", :value => tweet['id']} %form{ :action=>"/tweet/rate", :method=>"post"} = token_tag <input type="submit" value="Negative"/> <input type="hidden" value="negative" name="rating" /> %input{ :type=>"hidden", :value => tweet['id']} end I like this better already but I can go further. Haml Template: Take 2 The haml documentation says to avoid using iterators so I introduced a partial template (_tweet.haml) as the template to render a single tweet. _tweet.haml %tr %td= tweet['text'] %td= tweet['system_classification'] %td= tweet['human_classification'] %td %form{ :action=>"/tweet/rate", :method=>"post"} = token_tag <input type="submit" value="Positive"/> <input type="hidden" value="positive" name="rating" /> %input{ :type=>"hidden", :value => tweet['id']} %form{ :action=>"/tweet/rate", :method=>"post"} = token_tag <input type="submit" value="Neutral"/> <input type="hidden" value="neutral" name="rating" /> %input{ :type=>"hidden", :value => tweet['id']} %form{ :action=>"/tweet/rate", :method=>"post"} = token_tag <input type="submit" value="Negative"/> <input type="hidden" value="negative" name="rating" /> %input{ :type=>"hidden", :value => tweet['id']} and the list template is simplified to: list.haml %style form {float: left;} %h1 Tweets %table     %thead         %tr             %th             %th System             %th Human             %th     %tbody         = render(:partial => "tweet", :collection => @tweets) That is definitely an improvement, but then I noticed that _tweet.haml contains three form tags that are nearly identical.   Haml Template: Take 3 My first attempt, later aborted, was to use a helper to remove the duplication. A much better solution is to use another partial.  _rate_button.haml %form{ :action=>"/tweet/rate", :method=>"post"} = token_tag %input{ :type => "submit", :value => rate_button[:rating].capitalize } %input{ :type => "hidden", :value => rate_button[:rating], :name => 'rating' } %input{ :type => "hidden", :value => rate_button[:id], :name => 'id' } and the tweet template is now simpler: _tweet.haml %tr %td= tweet['text'] %td= tweet['system_classification'] %td= tweet['human_classification'] %td = render( :partial => 'rate_button', :object => {:rating=>'positive', :id=> tweet['id']}) = render( :partial => 'rate_button', :object => {:rating=>'neutral', :id=> tweet['id']}) = render( :partial => 'rate_button', :object => {:rating=>'negative', :id=> tweet['id']}) list.haml remains unchanged. Summary I am extremely happy with the switch. No doubt there are further improvements that I can make, but I feel like what I have now is clean and well factored.

    "The Google" is very helpful... unless your language is called "R," in which case it spits out tons of irrelevant stuff. Anyone have any search engine tricks for "R"? There are some specialized websites, like those below, but how can you tell Google you mean "R" the language? If I'm searching for something specific, I'll use an R-specific term, like "cbind." Are there other such tricks? http://rweb.stat.umn.edu/R/doc/html/search/SearchEngine.html www.rseek.org http://search.r-project.org/ www.dangoldstein.com/search_r.html

  • rails 3.0.3 - ActiveRecord::Relation, undefined method error

    - by brg
    I am having this unexplained ActiveRecord::Relation, undefined method error . I don't know why, since my model association are well defined and the event table has the foreign keys for the user table. I tried using this fix but it failed: Rails 3 ActiveRecord::Relation random associations behavior event.rb class Event < ActiveRecord::Base belongs_to :user attr_accessible :event_name, :Starts_at, :finish, :tracks end user.rb class User < ActiveRecord::Base has_many :events, :dependent = :destroy attr_accessible :name, :event_attributes accepts_nested_attributes_for :events, :allow_destroy = true end schema.rb ActiveRecord::Schema.define(:version = 20101201180355) do create_table "events", :force = true do |t| t.string "event_name" t.string "tracks" t.datetime "starts_at" t.datetime "finish" t.datetime "created_at" t.datetime "updated_at" t.integer "user_id" end end error message NoMethodError in Users#index undefined method `events' for # Extracted source (around line #10): 7: <%= sortable "Tracks" % 8: 10: <% @users.events.each do |event| % 11: <% debugger % 12: 13: <%= event.starts_at % Trace of template inclusion: app/views/users/index.html.erb Rails.root: C:/rails_project1/events_manager Application Trace | Framework Trace | Full Trace app/views/users/_event_user.html.erb:10:in _app_views_users__event_user_html_erb__412443848_34308540_1390678' app/views/users/index.html.erb:7:in_app_views_users_index_html_erb___603337143_34316016_0'

  • jQuery Cycle Plugin - Content not cycling

    - by fmz
    I am setting up a page with jQuery's Cycle plugin and have four divs set to fade. I have the code in place, the images set, but it doesn't cycle properly. Firefox says there is a problem with the following code: <script type="text/javascript"> $(document).ready(function() { $('.slideshow').cycle({ fx: 'fade' }); }); </script> Here is the html: <div class="slideshow"> <div id="mainImg-1" class="slide"> <div class="quote"> <h2>Building Big Relationships with Small Business.</h2> <p>&ldquo;This is quote Number One.<br /> They are there when I need them the most.&rdquo;</p> <p><span class="author">Jane Doe &ndash; Charlotte Flower Shop</span></p> <div class="help"><a href="cb_services.html">Let Us Help You</a></div> </div> </div> <div id="mainImg-2" class="slide"> <div class="quote"> <h2>Building Big Relationships with Small Business.</h2> <p>&ldquo;This is quote Number Two.<br /> They are there when I need them the most.&rdquo;</p> <p><span class="author">Jane Doe &ndash; Charlotte Flower Shop</span></p> <div class="help"><a href="cb_services.html">Let Us Help You</a></div> </div> </div> <div id="mainImg-3" class="slide"> <div class="quote"> <h2>Building Big Relationships with Small Business.</h2> <p>&ldquo;This is quote Number three.<br /> They are there when I need them the most.&rdquo;</p> <p><span class="author">Jane Doe &ndash; Charlotte Flower Shop</span></p> <div class="help"><a href="cb_services.html">Let Us Help You</a></div> </div> </div> <div id="mainImg-4" class="slide"> <div class="quote"> <h2>Building Big Relationships with Small Business.</h2> <p>&ldquo;This is quote Number Fout.<br /> They are there when I need them the most.&rdquo;</p> <p><span class="author">Jane Doe &ndash; Charlotte Flower Shop</span></p> <div class="help"><a href="cb_services.html">Let Us Help You</a></div> </div> </div> Here is the CSS: .slideshow { width: 946px; height: 283px; border: 1px solid #c29c5d; margin: 8px; overflow: hidden; z-index: 1; } #mainImg-1 { width: 946px; height: 283px; background: url(../_images/main.jpg) no-repeat 9px 9px; } #mainImg-2 { width: 946px; height: 283px; background: url(../_images/main.jpg) no-repeat 9px 9px; } #mainImg-3 { width: 946px; height: 283px; background: url(../_images/main.jpg) no-repeat 9px 9px; } #mainImg-4 { width: 946px; height: 283px; background: url(../_images/main.jpg) no-repeat 9px 9px; } #mainImg-1 .quote, #mainImg-2 .quote, #mainImg-3 .quote, #mainImg-4 .quote { width: 608px; height: 168px; float: right; margin: 80px 11px 0 0; background: url(../_images/bg_quoteBox.png) repeat-x; } Before you go off and say, "hey, those images are all the same". You are right, the images are all the same right now, but the text should be rotating as well and there is a slight difference there. In addition, the fade should still show up. Anyway, you can see the dev page here: http://173.201.163.213/projectpath/first_trust/index.html I would appreciate some help to get this cycling through as it should. Thanks!

  • Magento Flash + XML frontend

    - by Nick Dima
    Hi guys, I'm working on a Flash frontend for a Magento powered store. This frontend will be an alternative to the HTML shop so it will sit in a subdirectory and use the same Magento installation as the main HTML site. The Flash application will get the data from dynamic XML files. It needs to get almost everything as the HTML site (categories, products, cart, etc). I want this to be a Magento module that can be installed on an already existing Magento installation. I would like to use the Block classes available in Magneto's core code as they already provide a lot of the functionality needed. What steps would you take in order to achieve this? Do you know any examples or articles related to this? Thanks!

  • Trying to parse xml, but xmldocument.loadxml() is trying to download?

    - by maxp
    I have a string input that i do not know whether or not is valid xml. I think the simplest aprroach is to wrap new XmlDocument().LoadXml(strINPUT); In a try/catch. The problem im facing is, sometimes strINPUT is an html file, if the header of this file contains <!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC ""-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN"" ""http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-transitional.dtd""> <html xml:lang=""en-GB"" xmlns=""http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml"" lang=""en-GB""> ...like many do, it actually tries to make a connection to the w3.org url, which i really dont want it doing. Anyone know if its possible to just parse the string without trying to be clever and checking external urls? Failing that is there an alternative to xmldocument?

  • Problem with Mootools Ajax request and submitting a form

    - by Arwed
    Hello. This is my problem: I have a table with content comming from a database. Now i tryed to realize a way to (a) delete rows from the table (b) edit the content of the row "on the fly". (a) is working perfectly (b) makes my head smoking! Here is the complete Mootools Code: <script type="text/javascript"> window.addEvent('domready', function() { $('edit_hide').slide('hide'); var saf = new Request.HTML( { url: 'termin_safe.php', encoding: 'utf-8', onComplete: function(response) { document.location.href=''; } }); var req = new Request.HTML( { url: 'fuss_response.php', encoding: 'utf-8', onComplete: function(response) { document.location.href=''; } }); var eDit = $('edit_hide'); var eD = new Request.HTML( { url: 'fuss_response_edit.php', update: eDit, encoding: 'utf-8', onComplete: function(response) { $('sst').addEvent( 'click', function(e){ e.stop(); saf.send(); }); } }); $$('input.edit').addEvent( 'click', function(e){ e.stop(); var aID = 'edit_', bID = '', cID = 'ed_'; var deleteID = this.getProperty('id').replace(aID,bID); var editID = $(this.getProperty('id').replace(aID,cID)); eD.send({data : "id=" + deleteID}); $('edit_hide').slide('toggle'); }); $$('input.delete').addEvent( 'click', function(e){ e.stop(); var aID = 'delete_', bID = ''; var deleteID = this.getProperty('id').replace(aID,bID); new MooDialog.Confirm('Soll der Termin gelöscht werden?', function(){ req.send({data : "id=" + deleteID}); }, function(){ new MooDialog.Alert('Schon Konfuzius hat gesagt: Erst denken dann handeln!'); }); }); }); </script> Here the PHP Part that makes the Edit Form: <?php $cKey = mysql_real_escape_string($_POST['id']); $request = mysql_query("SELECT * FROM fusspflege WHERE ID = '".$cKey."'"); while ($row = mysql_fetch_object($request)) { $id = $row->ID; $name = $row->name; $vor = $row->vorname; $ort = $row->ort; $tel = $row->telefon; $mail = $row->email; } echo '<form id="termin_edit" method="post" action="">'; echo '<div><label>Name:</label><input type="text" id="nns" name="name" value="'.$name.'"></div>'; echo '<div><label>Vorname:</label><input type="text" id="nvs" name="vorname" value="'.$vor.'"></div>'; echo '<div><label>Ort:</label><input type="text" id="nos" name="ort" value="'.$ort.'"></div>'; echo '<div><label>Telefon:</label><input type="text" id="nts" name="telefon" value="'.$tel.'"></div>'; echo '<div><label>eMail:</label><input type="text" id="nms" name="email" value="'.$mail.'"></div>'; echo '<input name="id" type="hidden" id="ids" value="'.$id.'"/>'; echo '<input type="button" id="sst" value="Speichern">'; echo '</form>'; ?> And last the Code of the termin_safe.php $id = mysql_real_escape_string($_POST['id']); $na = mysql_real_escape_string($_POST['name']); $vn = mysql_real_escape_string($_POST['vorname']); $ort = mysql_real_escape_string($_POST['ort']); $tel = mysql_real_escape_string($_POST['telefon']); $em = mysql_real_escape_string($_POST['email']); $score = mysql_query("UPDATE fuspflege SET name = '".$na."', vorname = '".$vn."', ort = '".$ort."', telefon = '".$tel."', email = '".$em."' WHERE ID = '".$id."'"); As far as i can see the request does work but the data is not updated! i guess somethings wrong with the things posted For any suggestions i will be gladly happy!
