• Cheapest ways to expose internet services

  Hi all, we have developed/customized an internet site that provides functionalities like sharing, swap/barter, selling and rent any object/services trough public or private galleries and/or clubs. We'd like now to expose all or some of the services to the public, so that anybody can take advantage of our engine, but without spending too much as we rae running low on budget. At the moment we have developed some RSS interfaces for the public catalogs and is possible to use JQuery to query the engine. Do you have any advices on how to proceed here? We were thinking about something simple like framset, using openID like authentication, or similar technologies. Even if can be the coolest solution, we a would like to avoid the develop soap, rest or xmlrpc APIs as it takes a lot of time ( =money ) Do you have any super smart ideas?

• html5media & flowplayer wmode issues...

  I'm working on our new homepage and need to implement a solution that will run a video across iphone/ipad and the standard web browsers. I found a pretty decent solution with html5media - http://code.google.com/p/html5media/ but ran across an issue with a jquery dropdown falling behind the the swf object (this only happens on FF & IE - works fine on Safari & Chrome because it's loading mp4 instead of a swf object). I know the issue is the wmode setting but can not for the life of me figure out where to set it in the html5media (http://html5media.googlecode.com/svn/trunk/src/html5media.min.js). I'm hoping someone can help me or possibly give me a better solution of implementing the video. • Php Two Combo box in a form control each other. How?

  On php page in a form, One combo box has list of my Customer from mysql table customer. Another combo box has invoiceno stored in invoice table which has respective customer records. I want to select customer from first combo box and filter invoiceno from the second one according to the customer. Any one help me for php or java or Jquery or both codeings? Means if I select customer1 then in the second combo box should show all invoiceno respective to the custermer1. No Refresh or ReLoad or Post form Pl. If I get the first selection in a php variable format example $customer, it is enough for me. Thanks for any one help me.

  Hello all, I am using ASP MVC and SQL Server and I have a database that is updated intermittently with expected wait times for some event. Also, I am using some ajax and jquery. I need to display the average and maximum wait times. How can I take the entire list of time from the server and get the average time? Also, what would be the best method to simply grab a new time from the server when it is updated without having to pull the whole list again? Thanks!

• How do I detect a click event on a google maps PolyLine overlay?

  It seems to me that I should be able to do the following to detect a click event on a line on a google map: var line = new GPolyline( ... ); map.addOverlay(line); GEvent.addListener(line, "click", function(latlng){ alert("clicked"); }); The api reference says this is available in version 2.88, which was released in 2007(!?), so I'm assuming that's what I'm using, but I don't know how to confirm that. I also tried setting the {clickable:true} option explicitly (it's supposed to be the default.) I've tested in FireFox 3 and Opera 9.6 so doubt it's browser specific. I'm also using jQuery on the page. I have plenty of code detecting clicks on markers that works fine, clicking on lines would be really nice, can anyone enlighten me?

• what are the limitations of mobile phones and web development

  simple really.. I am have been asked to do a mobile site (straight html + css (+ maybe jquery mobile later on)). The site will need to support the new type smart phone and the old type Nokia/(Symbian OS) with the web browser. Doubts and reservations aside as to anyone without a smart phone would bother visiting this site it still needs to support it. My first question is do older phones support PNG images and transparancey... But this has led me to a much broader question of what are some of the limitations of developing for older phone platforms is there anything that has caught mobile web devs out and had them scratching their head for an afternoon.. what are the limitations of mobile phones?

• Backbone.js - Getting JSON back from url

I feel like I'm missing something obvious here, but I just can't seem to figure it out why I can't get the right data out. Could someone point me in the right direction or show me what I'm doing wrong here? Am I using a model for the wrong thing?

  Hi this is driving me nuts. I believe I asked this exact same question but I can't find it anymore(I used stackoverflow search, google search, manually searched my posts, searched my code). I wanted something that would be like the C# String.Format where you could do something like string format = String.Format("Hi {0}",name); just for javascript of course and one person gave me a simple answer it was not like a jquery plugin or anything but I think you made some json thing or something and it worked and was simple to use. • With javascript, is it possible to define a variable's name with another string value?

  Example, I have an array called 'categories' with the value ['4','9']. I'm trying to use that value with the name of a previously defined array. I have several arrays defined earlier called row1, row2, row3 etc. I'm also using jQuery. Trying to do something like this: for (i=0; i<categories.length; i++) { row+categories[i].push($(this).attr('id')); console.log(row+categories[i]); } Obviously row+categories[i] doesn't work, but maybe gives you an idea of what I'm trying to do? In this case to push that id value onto the array 'row4' the first time it loops through and then 'row9' the second time. Thanks for your help!!

• How do I find the previous/default value of a radio button in JS?

  I'm not sure if this is even possible, but I figured I'd ask before clubbing togehter an ugly solution. What I have is a group of radio buttons and I want to trigger a function if the radio button value is changed. For example say there are three buttons X Y and Z with Y default selected. If a user clicks on an unselected button (i.e. X or Z) then the function gets triggered but if he/she clicks on Y (which is already selected) nothing happens. Naturally the best solution would be to fire the function on an onchange event but IE6 doesn't fire onchange until the focus is no longer on the element which is not satisfactory. So is there a way to know what the previous value of the radio button was or at least what its default value is? I could easily create an array of default values and check against that but I'm trying to reduce the overhead. Please no jQuery suggestions ;)

What technology should I use, I have checked framewroks like: Flex, Silverlight, Google/GWT, sencha (ExtJS), jQuery, DoJo, Telereik, Infrajistics and others similar. But they seam to be very low level programming. May be this is advantage for other projects, where you need more flexibility, but this project is stright forward. I need something more focused on business software (tables, forms, processes) where and eventually more efficient with less coding, or something I can save time. Is force.com an option? But I can not install this on the customer's servers... Do you have any ideas for me for a web based framework focused on business applications?

At client-side i'd like to send object just passing it in ajax function, without being forced to wrap it in an object literal like this: {'person' : person}. For the same reasons, at server-side i'd like to manage objects without the binding of $_GET['person'] or $_POST['person']. For example: var person = { 'name' : 'John', 'lastName' : 'Doe', 'age' : 32, 'married' : true } sendAjaxRequest(person); in php, using: $person = json_decode(file_get_contents("php://input")); i can get easily the object, but only with POST format, not in GET. I wish sometime to check have i placed it into the DOM before or it is still virtual. // check if elem is placed in the DOM (it's not) document.getElementByTagName('body')[0].appendChild(elem); // check - and it's finally in the document When use jquery i can write '$(elem).filter(':visible') or even $(elem).visible() if i remember correctly. But if it's based on the same javascript, then... All i want is to check does the element exist only virtually or it can be found in a document (and still may be not visible).

• Google maps z-index problem in IE

  I'm loading my google maps into div class="extra" style="display: none;" /. As soon as the AJAX request is complete, the map_canvas div is placed inside the hidden div and the hidden div will be vissible with the toggleDown jquery effect. In FF it's working perfect, but in IE the Google maps (map_canvas div) is already visible before the toggleDown effect is started. I think the z-index and the relative position of the map_canvas div wich is loaded into the hidden div will place the map_canvas div on top of the hidden div. What do i have to change to make sure the map_canvas div is not on top of the hidden div? • What to return when making an Ajax request

  When we return data from an Ajax call, is it better to return a document containing HTML to display on the page or return an Xml/json data which can be processed? I know different circumstances may determine what 'better' means, but I really want to know which will be more appropriate for different circumstances. I am working on the framework for a large ASP .Net application, using jQuery Ajax (forms plugin). My initial thought was to return the data as Xml, then process accordingly. Then this increases processing required in Javascript, to populate the page. I am trying to balance flexible, clear and simple. Thanks in advance for your knowledge and information.

  I'm using the Colorbox module in Drupal 7. I'm opening an external website. I can make it work with a link. Click here, then click the "colorbox popup" link at the bottom, middle column. The client would like this to open automatically when the page opens.   is there a way to run gwt on a proxy loaded web page ? ex) using proxy script on myexamplesite.com that loads finance.google.com, and running GWT on the newly loaded page. I've been doing the above before I found about GWT, using LAMP stack + Jquery (UI), which quickly turned out to be crap and inefficient. All this trouble to bypass browser's default Single Origin Policy. So, right now, is it possible to overcome this problem with GWT ? Is it possible to some how, run javascript on a html page from finance.google.com loaded into myexamplesite.com's frame with GWT or other solution? I am not looking to do JSON or RSS related topics. What I need is high lighted in bold. Is GWT + Gears what I should be using ? Thank you.

• Pre-cache site as user visits

  I am making a static site which is 'forced' to be cached via Cache-control, etc. When a user visits my site, I want the browser to crawl my site, caching pages, so when the user navigates to a page, the load is almost instant. (I do not need a recursive crawl, as that will probably happen as the user navigates between pages. I just need to crawl the links on the current page, and of course not re-caching a page which has already been cached.) (Also, I am not changing pages using Ajax-like techniques. These are essentially normal flat HTML files with normal links.) How can I do this pre-caching using Javascript? (I am using jQuery.)
