  • Fastest way to pad a number in Java to a certain number of digits

    - by Martin
    Am trying to create a well-optimised bit of code to create number of X-digits in length (where X is read from a runtime properties file), based on a DB-generated sequence number (Y), which is then used a folder-name when saving a file. I've come up with three ideas so far, the fastest of which is the last one, but I'd appreciate any advice people may have on this... 1) Instantiate a StringBuilder with initial capacity X. Append Y. While length < X, insert a zero at pos zero. 2) Instantiate a StringBuilder with initial capacity X. While length < X, append a zero. Create a DecimalFormat based on StringBuilder value, and then format the number when it's needed. 3) Create a new int of Math.pow( 10, X ) and add Y. Use String.valueOf() on the new number and then substring(1) it. The second one can obviously be split into outside-loop and inside-loop sections. So, any tips? Using a for-loop of 10,000 iterations, I'm getting similar timings from the first two, and the third method is approximately ten-times faster. Does this seem correct? Full test-method code below... // Setup test variables int numDigits = 9; int testNumber = 724; int numIterations = 10000; String folderHolder = null; DecimalFormat outputFormat = new DecimalFormat( "#,##0" ); // StringBuilder test long before = System.nanoTime(); for ( int i = 0; i < numIterations; i++ ) { StringBuilder sb = new StringBuilder( numDigits ); sb.append( testNumber ); while ( sb.length() < numDigits ) { sb.insert( 0, 0 ); } folderHolder = sb.toString(); } long after = System.nanoTime(); System.out.println( "01: " + outputFormat.format( after - before ) + " nanoseconds" ); System.out.println( "Sanity check: Folder = \"" + folderHolder + "\"" ); // DecimalFormat test before = System.nanoTime(); StringBuilder sb = new StringBuilder( numDigits ); while ( sb.length() < numDigits ) { sb.append( 0 ); } DecimalFormat formatter = new DecimalFormat( sb.toString() ); for ( int i = 0; i < numIterations; i++ ) { folderHolder = formatter.format( testNumber ); } after = System.nanoTime(); System.out.println( "02: " + outputFormat.format( after - before ) + " nanoseconds" ); System.out.println( "Sanity check: Folder = \"" + folderHolder + "\"" ); // Substring test before = System.nanoTime(); int baseNum = (int)Math.pow( 10, numDigits ); for ( int i = 0; i < numIterations; i++ ) { int newNum = baseNum + testNumber; folderHolder = String.valueOf( newNum ).substring( 1 ); } after = System.nanoTime(); System.out.println( "03: " + outputFormat.format( after - before ) + " nanoseconds" ); System.out.println( "Sanity check: Folder = \"" + folderHolder + "\"" );

  • Mallocing an unsigned char array to store ints

    - by Max Desmond
    I keep getting a segmentation fault when i test the following code. I am currently unable to find an answer after having searched the web. a = (byte *)malloc(sizeof(byte) * x ) ; for( i = 0 ; i < x-1 ; i++ ) { scanf("%d", &y ) ; a[i] = y ; } Both y and x are initialized. X is the size of the array determined by the user. The segmentation fault is on the second to last integer to be added, i found this by adding printf("roar") ; before setting a[i] to y and entering one number at a time. Byte is a typedef of an unsigned char. Note: I've also tried using a[i] = (byte)y ; A is ininitalized as follows byte *a ; If you need to view the entire code it is this: #include <stdio.h> #include <stdlib.h> #include "sort.h" int p_cmp_f () ; int main( int argc, char *argv[] ) { int x, y, i, choice ; byte *a ; while( choice !=2 ) { printf( "Would you like to sort integers?\n1. Yes\n2. No\n" ) ; scanf("%d", &choice ) ; switch(choice) { case 1: printf( "Enter the length of the array: " ) ; scanf( "%d", &x ) ; a = (byte *)malloc(sizeof( byte ) * x ) ; printf( "Enter %d integers to add to the array: ", x ) ; for( i = 0 ; i < x -1 ; i++ ) { scanf( "%d", &y ) ; a[i] = y ; } switch( choice ) { case 1: bubble_sort( a, x, sizeof(int), p_cmp_f ) ; for( i = 0 ; i < x ; i++ ) printf( "%d", a[i] ; break ; case 2: selection_sort( a, x, sizeof(int), p_cmp_f ) ; for( i = 0 ; i < x; i++ ) printf( "%d", a[i] ; break ; case 3: insertion_sort( a, x, sizeof(int), p_cmp_f ) ; for( i = 0 ; i < x ; i++ ) printf( "%d", a[i] ; break ; case 4: merge_sort( a, x, sizeof(int), p_cmp_f ) ; for( i = 0 ; i < x ; i++ ) printf( "%d", a[i] ; break ; case 5: quick_sort( a, x, sizeof(int), p_cmp_f ) ; for( i = 0 ; i < x ; i++ ) printf( "%d", a[i] ; break ; default: printf("Enter either 1,2,3,4, or 5" ) ; break ; } case 2: printf( "Thank you for using this program\n" ) ; return 0 ; break ; default: printf( "Enter either 1 or 2: " ) ; break ; } } free(a) ; return 0 ; } int p_cmp_f( byte *element1, byte *element2 ) { return *((int *)element1) - *((int *)element2) ; }

  • error Caused by: java.lang.OutOfMemoryError Load Image

  • Create a named cell dynamically

    - by CaptMorgan
    I have a workbook with 3 worksheets. 1 worksheet will have input values (not created at the moment and not needed for this question), 1 worksheet with several "template" or "source" tables, and the last worksheet has 4 formatted "target" tables (empty or not doesn't matter). Each template table has 3 columns, 1 column identifying what the values are for in the second 2 columns. The value columns have formulas in them and each cell is Named. The formulas use the cell Names rather than cell address (e.g. MyData1 instead of C2). I am trying to copy the templates into the target tables while also either copying the cell Names from the source into the targets or create the Names in the target tables based on the source cell Names. My code below I am creating the target names by using a "base" in the Name that will be changed depending on which target table it gets copied to. my sample tables have "Num0_" for a base in all the cell names (e.g. Num0_MyData1, Num0_SomeOtherData2, etc). Once the copy has completed the code will then name the cells by looking at the target Names (and address), replacing the base of the name with a new base, just adding a number of which target table it goes to, and replacing the sheet name in the address. Here's where I need help. The way I am changing that address will only work if my template and target are using the same cell addresses of their perspective sheets. Which they are not. (e.g. Template1 table has value cells, each named, of B2 thru C10, and my target table for the copy may be F52 thur G60). Bottom line I need to figure out how to copy those names over with the templates or name the cells dynamically by doing something like a replace where I am incrementing the address value based on my target table #...remember I have 4 target tables which are static, I will only copy to those areas. I am a newbie to vba so any suggestions or help is appreciated. NOTE: The copying of the table works as I want. It even names the cells (if the Template and Target Table have the same local worksheet cell address (e.g. C2) 'Declare Module level variables 'Variables for target tables are defined in sub's for each target table. Dim cellName As Name Dim newName As String Dim newAddress As String Dim newSheetVar Dim oldSheetVar Dim oldNameVar Dim srcTable1 Sub copyTables() newSheetVar = "TestSheet" oldSheetVar = "Templates" oldNameVar = "Num0_" srcTable1 = "TestTableTemplate" 'Call sub functions to copy tables, name cells and update functions. copySrc1Table copySrc2Table End Sub '****there is another sub identical to this one below for copySrc2Table. Sub copySrc1Table() newNameVar = "Num1_" trgTable1 = "SourceEnvTable1" Sheets(oldSheetVar).Select Range(srcTable1).Select Selection.Copy For Each cellName In ActiveWorkbook.Names 'Find all names with common value If cellName.Name Like oldNameVar & "*" Then 'Replace the common value with the update value you need newName = Replace(cellName.Name, oldNameVar, newNameVar) newAddress = Replace(cellName.RefersTo, oldSheetVar, newSheetVar) 'Edit the name of the name. This will change any formulas using this name as well ActiveWorkbook.Names.Add Name:=newName, RefersTo:=newAddress End If Next cellName Sheets(newSheetVar).Select Range(trgTable1).Select Selection.PasteSpecial Paste:=xlPasteAll, Operation:=xlNone, SkipBlanks:= _ False, Transpose:=False End Sub PING

  • How can I keep my MVC Views, models, and model binders as clean as possible?

    - by MBonig
    I'm rather new to MVC and as I'm getting into the whole framework more and more I'm finding the modelbinders are becoming tough to maintain. Let me explain... I am writing a basic CRUD-over-database app. My domain models are going to be very rich. In an attempt to keep my controllers as thin as possible I've set it up so that on Create/Edit commands the parameter for the action is a richly populated instance of my domain model. To do this I've implemented a custom model binder. As a result, though, this custom model binder is very specific to the view and the model. I've decided to just override the DefaultModelBinder that ships with MVC 2. In the case where the field being bound to my model is just a textbox (or something as simple), I just delegate to the base method. However, when I'm working with a dropdown or something more complex (the UI dictates that date and time are separate data entry fields but for the model it is one Property), I have to perform some checks and some manual data munging. The end result of this is that I have some pretty tight ties between the View and Binder. I'm architecturally fine with this but from a code maintenance standpoint, it's a nightmare. For example, my model I'm binding here is of type Log (this is the object I will get as a parameter on my Action). The "ServiceStateTime" is a property on Log. The form values of "log.ServiceStartDate" and "log.ServiceStartTime" are totally arbitrary and come from two textboxes on the form (Html.TextBox("log.ServiceStartTime",...)) protected override object GetPropertyValue(ControllerContext controllerContext, ModelBindingContext bindingContext, PropertyDescriptor propertyDescriptor, IModelBinder propertyBinder) { if (propertyDescriptor.Name == "ServiceStartTime") { string date = bindingContext.ValueProvider.GetValue("log.ServiceStartDate").ConvertTo(typeof (string)) as string; string time = bindingContext.ValueProvider.GetValue("log.ServiceStartTime").ConvertTo(typeof (string)) as string; DateTime dateTime = DateTime.Parse(date + " " + time); return dateTime; } if (propertyDescriptor.Name == "ServiceEndTime") { string date = bindingContext.ValueProvider.GetValue("log.ServiceEndDate").ConvertTo(typeof(string)) as string; string time = bindingContext.ValueProvider.GetValue("log.ServiceEndTime").ConvertTo(typeof(string)) as string; DateTime dateTime = DateTime.Parse(date + " " + time); return dateTime; } The Log.ServiceEndTime is a similar field. This doesn't feel very DRY to me. First, if I refactor the ServiceStartTime or ServiceEndTime into different field names, the text strings may get missed (although my refactoring tool of choice, R#, is pretty good at this sort of thing, it wouldn't cause a build-time failure and would only get caught by manual testing). Second, if I decided to arbitrarily change the descriptors "log.ServiceStartDate" and "log.ServiceStartTime", I would run into the same problem. To me, runtime silent errors are the worst kind of error out there. So, I see a couple of options to help here and would love to get some input from people who have come across some of these issues: Refactor any text strings in common between the view and model binders out into const strings attached to the ViewModel object I pass from controller to the aspx/ascx view. This pollutes the ViewModel object, though. Provide unit tests around all of the interactions. I'm a big proponent of unit tests and haven't started fleshing this option out but I've got a gut feeling that it won't save me from foot-shootings. If it matters, the Log and other entities in the system are persisted to the database using Fluent NHibernate. I really want to keep my controllers as thin as possible. So, any suggestions here are greatly welcomed! Thanks

  • How to optimize this javascript code?

    - by Andrija
    I have a jsp which uses a lot of javascript and it's just not fast enough. I would like to optimize it so first, here's a part of the code: In the jsp I have the initialization: window.onload = function () { formCollection.pageSize.value = "<%= pagingSize%>"; elemCollection = iDom3.Table.all["spis"].XML.DOM; <% if (resultList != null) { %> elementsNumber = <%= resultList.size() %>; <%} else { %> elementsNumber = 0; <% } %> contextPath = "<%= request.getContextPath() %>"; } In my js file I have two types of js functions: // gets the first element and sets it's value to all the other; //the selectSingleNode function is used because I use XSLT transformation //to generate the table _setTehJed = function(){ var resultId = formCollection.elements["idTehJedinice_spis_1"].value; var resultText = formCollection.elements["tehnicka_spis_1"].value; if (resultId != ""){ var counter = 1; while (counter<elementsNumber){ counter++; if(formCollection.elements["idTehJedinice_spis_"+counter] != null){ formCollection.elements["idTehJedinice_spis_"+counter].value=resultId; formCollection.elements["tehnicka_spis_"+counter].value=resultText; } var node=elemCollection.selectSingleNode("/suite/table/rows/row[@id = 'spis_"+counter+"']/data[@col = 'tehnicka']/title"); node.text=resultText; var node2=elemCollection.selectSingleNode("/suite/table/rows/row[@id = 'spis_"+counter+"']/data[@col = 'idTehJedinice']/title"); node2.text=resultId; } } } // sets the elements checkbox to checked or unchecked _SelectCheckRokCuvanja = { all : [], Item : function (oItem, sId) { this.all["spis_"+sId] = oItem.value; if (oItem.checked) { elemCollection.selectSingleNode("/suite/table/rows/row[@id = 'spis_"+sId+"']/data[@col = 'rokCheck']").setAttribute("default", "true"); }else{ elemCollection.selectSingleNode("/suite/table/rows/row[@id = 'spis_"+sId+"']/data[@col = 'rokCheck']").setAttribute("default", "false"); } } } I've used these tips: http://blogs.msdn.com/b/ie/archive/2006/08/28/728654.aspx http://code.google.com/speed/articles/optimizing-javascript.html but I still think something could be done like defining the functions like this: In the jsp: window.onload = function () { iDom3.DigitalnaArhivaPrihvat.formCollection=document.forms["controller"]; iDom3.DigitalnaArhivaPrihvat.formCollection.pageSize.value = "<%= pagingSize%>"; iDom3.DigitalnaArhivaPrihvat.elemCollection = iDom3.Table.all["spis"].XML.DOM; <% if (resultList != null) { %> iDom3.DigitalnaArhivaPrihvat.elementsNumber = <%= resultList.size() %> <%} else { %> iDom3.DigitalnaArhivaPrihvat.elementsNumber = 0; <% } %> } in the js: iDom3.DigitalnaArhivaPrihvat = { formCollection:null, elemCollection:null, elementsNumber:null, _setTehJed : function(){ var resultId = this.formCollection.elements.idTehJedinice_spis_1.value; var resultText = this.formCollection.elements.tehnicka_spis_1.value; if (resultId != ""){ var counter = 1; while (counter<this.elementsNumber){ counter++; if(this.formCollection.elements["idTehJedinice_spis_"+counter] !== null){ this.formCollection.elements["idTehJedinice_spis_"+counter].value=resultId; this.formCollection.elements["tehnicka_spis_"+counter].value=resultText; } var node=this.elemCollection.selectSingleNode("/suite/table/rows/row[@id = 'spis_"+counter+"']/data[@col = 'tehnicka']/title"); node.text=resultText; var node2=this.elemCollection.selectSingleNode("/suite/table/rows/row[@id = 'spis_"+counter+"']/data[@col = 'idTehJedinice']/title"); node2.text=resultId; } } }, _SelectCheckRokCuvanja = { all : [], Item : function (oItem, sId) { this.all["spis_"+sId] = oItem.value; if (oItem.checked) { this.elemCollection.selectSingleNode("/suite/table/rows/row[@id = 'spis_"+sId+"']/data[@col = 'rokCheck']").setAttribute("default", "true"); }else{ this.elemCollection.selectSingleNode("/suite/table/rows/row[@id = 'spis_"+sId+"']/data[@col = 'rokCheck']").setAttribute("default", "false"); } } } but the problem is scoping (if I do it like this, the second function does not execute properly). Any suggestions?

  • AJAX Generated Select Won't Redirect

    - by James
    So, basically I have this select / drop down menu that I use AJAX to retrieve and create, though when an option is selected (so onChange) I want it to redirect! Though, this still isn't working, I don't get any errors thrown when trying, and tried to do alert() debug methods yet the alerts don't get called. jquery $("#schoolMenu").change(function() { option = $("#schoolMenu option:selected").text(); alert(option); if(option != "- Please Select -") { window.location = "http://www.itmustbecollege.com/pics/pics-from-"+$("#schoolMenu option:selected").val(); } }); This is what is used to call the AJAX // // Populate Schools // $("#state").change(function() { option = $("#state option:selected").text(); if($(this).attr("class") == "menu") { if(option != "- Please Select -") { $.ajax({ type: "GET", url: "/includes/functions.php", data: "f=school&p="+option+"&m=yes", success: function(msg) { $("#fSchool").html("<p style=\"margin-left: 20px;\">Select School:</p>"+ msg); $("#fSchool").show(); $("#school").focus(); } }); } else { $("#fSchool").html(""); $("#fSchool").hide(); } } else { if(option != "- Please Select -") { $.ajax({ type: "GET", url: "/includes/functions.php", data: "f=school&p="+option, success: function(msg) { $("#fSchool").html(msg); $("#fSchool").show(); $("#school").focus(); } }); } else { $("#fSchool").html(""); $("#fSchool").hide(); } } }); It loads perfectly, if you look at http://www.itmustbecollege.com/quotes/ on that bar where you can do "sort by" of Popular | Newest | Category | School if you hover over school a dropdown comes up, select any country and another one appears, though when that is changed nothing happens. here is the PHP for that second drop down // Get College List function getCollege($state, $m = "no", $l = "no") { // Displays Schools if($m == "yes") { $options = '<select id="schoolMenu" name="school"><option value="select" selected="selected">- Please Select -</option>'; } else if($l == "yes" || $l == "yes2") { $options = ''; } else { $options = '<select name="school"><option value="select" selected="selected">- Please Select -</option>'; } $listArray = split("\|\\\\", $list); for($i=0; $i < count($listArray); $i++) { if($m == "yes") { $options .= '<option value="'. trim(titleReplace($listArray[$i])) .'">'. trim($listArray[$i]) .'</option>'; } else if($l == "yes") { $options .= '<li><a href="/quotes/quotes-from-'. titleReplace($listArray[$i]) .'" title="'. trim($listArray[$i]) .' Quotes">'. trim($listArray[$i]) .'</a></li>'; } else if($l == "yes2") { $options .= '<li><a href="/pics/pics-from-'. titleReplace($listArray[$i]) .'" title="'. trim($listArray[$i]) .' Pictures">'. trim($listArray[$i]) .'</a></li>'; } else { $options .= '<option value="'. trim($listArray[$i]) .'">'. trim($listArray[$i]) .'</option>'; } } echo $options .='</select>'; return false; } any help would be great! EDIT: Also, the way I have those drop downs coming for the menus is a bit weird and when you hover over any other "sort by" link they disappear, this is a problem with the "sort by school" because the first select box shows the list up, and if you go and select a school then somehow float over another link it disappears, any help on how to delay that or fix that minor problem?

  • Why doesn't the default model binder update my partial view model on postback?

    - by bdnewbe
    I have a class that contains another class as one of its properties. public class SiteProperties { public SiteProperties() { DropFontFamily = "Arial, Helvetica, Sans-serif"; } public string DropFontFamily { get; set; } private ResultPageProperties m_ResultPagePropertyList; public ResultPageProperties ResultPagePropertyList { get { if (m_ResultPagePropertyList == null) m_ResultPagePropertyList = new ResultPageProperties(); return m_ResultPagePropertyList; } set { m_ResultPagePropertyList = value; } } } The second class has just one property public class ResultPageProperties { public ResultPageProperties() { ResultFontFamily = "Arial, Helvetica, Sans-serif"; } public string ResultFontFamily { get; set; } } My controller just grabs the SiteProperties and returns the view. On submit, it accepts SiteProperties and returns the same view. public class CompanyController : Controller { public ActionResult SiteOptions(int id) { SiteProperties site = new SiteProperties(); PopulateProperyDropDownLists(); return View("SiteOptions", site); } [AcceptVerbs(HttpVerbs.Post)] public ActionResult SiteOptions(SiteProperties properties) { PopulateProperyDropDownLists(); return View("SiteOptions", properties); } private void PopulateProperyDropDownLists() { var fontFamilyList = new List<SelectListItem>(); fontFamilyList.Add(new SelectListItem() { Text = "Arial, Helvetica, Sans-serif", Value = "Arial, Helvetica, Sans-serif" }); fontFamilyList.Add(new SelectListItem() { Text = "Times New Roman, Times, serif", Value = "Times New Roman, Times, serif" }); fontFamilyList.Add(new SelectListItem() { Text = "Courier New, Courier, Monospace", Value = "Courier New, Courier, Monospace" }); ViewData["FontFamilyList"] = fontFamilyList; } } The view contains a partial view that renders the ResultPageProperties Model. <% using (Html.BeginForm("SiteOptions", "Company", FormMethod.Post)) {%> <p><input type="submit" value="Submit" /></p> <div>View level input</div> <div> <label>Font family</label><br /> <%= Html.DropDownListFor(m => m.DropFontFamily, ViewData["FontFamilyList"] as List<SelectListItem>, new { Class = "UpdatesDropDownExample" })%> </div> <% Html.RenderPartial("ResultPagePropertyInput", Model.ResultPagePropertyList); %> <% } %> The partial is just <div style='margin-top: 1em;'>View level input</div> <div> <label>Font family</label><br /> <%= Html.DropDownListFor(m => m.ResultFontFamily, ViewData["FontFamilyList"] as List<SelectListItem>, new { Class = "UpdatesResultPageExample" })%> </div> OK, so when the page renders, you get "Arial, ..." in both selects. If you choose another option for both and click submit, the binder populates the SiteProperties object and passes it to the controller. However, the ResultFontFamily always contains the original value. I was expecting it to have the value the user selected. What am I missing?

  • Flash Mouse.hide() cmd+tab(alt+tab) bring the mouse back

    Having a bit of trouble with Mouse.show() and losing focus of the swf This isn't my demo: but its showing the same bug http://www.foundation-flash.com/tutorials/as3customcursors/ What i do to recreate it is: mouse over the swf, hit cmd+tab to highlight another window, result is that the mouse is not brought back and is still invisible, (to get it back go to the window bar at the top of the screen and click something). I have an area in which movement is detected and an image Things I have tried package { import flash.display.Sprite; import flash.display.MovieClip; import com.greensock.*; import flash.events.*; import flash.utils.Timer; import flash.events.TimerEvent; import flash.utils.*; import flash.ui.Mouse; public class mousey_movey extends MovieClip { public var middle_of_the_flash; //pixels per second public var speeds = [0,1,3,5,10]; public var speed; public var percentage_the_mouse_is_across_the_screen; public var mouse_over_scrollable_area:Boolean; public var image_move_interval; public function mousey_movey() { middle_of_the_flash = stage.stageWidth/2; hot_area_for_movement.addEventListener(MouseEvent.MOUSE_OVER, mouseEnter); hot_area_for_movement.addEventListener(MouseEvent.MOUSE_OUT, mouseLeave); hot_area_for_movement.addEventListener(MouseEvent.MOUSE_MOVE, mouseMove); stage.addEventListener(Event.MOUSE_LEAVE, show_mouse); stage.addEventListener(MouseEvent.MOUSE_OUT, show_mouse); stage.addEventListener(Event.DEACTIVATE,show_mouse); hot_area_for_movement.alpha=0; hot_area_for_movement.x=0; hot_area_for_movement.y=34; } public function show_mouse(e) { trace(e.type) trace('show_mouse') Mouse.show(); } public function onActivate(e) { trace('activate'); Mouse.show(); } public function onDeactivate(e) { trace('deactivate'); } public function get_speed(percantage_from_middle):int { if(percantage_from_middle > 80) { return speeds[4] } else { if(percantage_from_middle > 60) { return speeds[3] } else { if(percantage_from_middle > 40) { return speeds[2] } else { if(percantage_from_middle > 20) { return speeds[1] } else { return 0; } } } } } public function mouseLeave(e:Event):void{ Mouse.show(); clearInterval(image_move_interval); } public function mouseEnter(e:Event):void{ Mouse.hide(); image_move_interval = setInterval(moveImage,1); } public function mouseMove(e:Event):void { percentage_the_mouse_is_across_the_screen = Math.round(((middle_of_the_flash-stage.mouseX)/middle_of_the_flash)*100); speed = get_speed(Math.abs(percentage_the_mouse_is_across_the_screen)); airplane_icon.x = stage.mouseX; airplane_icon.y = stage.mouseY; } public function stageMouseMove(e:Event):void{ Mouse.show(); } public function moveImage():void { if(percentage_the_mouse_is_across_the_screen > 0) { moving_image.x+=speed; airplane_icon.scaleX = -1; } else { moving_image.x-=speed; airplane_icon.scaleX = 1; } } } } Nothing too fancy, im just scrolling an image left of right at a speed which is generated by how far you are from the middle of the stage, and making an airplane moveclip follow the mouse. The events: stage.addEventListener(Event.MOUSE_LEAVE, show_mouse); stage.addEventListener(MouseEvent.MOUSE_OUT, show_mouse); stage.addEventListener(Event.DEACTIVATE,show_mouse); All fire and work correctly when in the browser, seem a little buggy when running a test through flash, was expecting this as ive experienced it before. The deactivate call even runs when testing and cmd+tabbing but shows no mouse. Any help on the matter is appreciated Thanks, Dickie

  • Update transaction in SQL Server 2008 R2 from ASP.Net not working

    - by Amarus
    Hello! Even though I've been a stalker here for ages, this is the first post I'm making. Hopefully, it won't end here and more optimistically future posts might actually be me trying to give a hand to someone else, I do owe this community that much and more. Now, what I'm trying to do is simple and most probably the reason behind it not working is my own stupidity. However, I'm stumped here. I'm working on an ASP.Net website that interacts with an SQL Server 2008 R2 database. So far everything has been going okay but updating a row (or more) just won't work. I even tried copying and pasting code from this site and others but it's always the same thing. In short: No exception or errors are shown when the update command executes (it even gives the correct count of affected rows) but no changes are actually made on the database. Here's a simplified version of my code (the original had more commands and tons of parameters each, but even when it's like this it doesn't work): protected void btSubmit_Click(object sender, EventArgs e) { using (SqlConnection connection = new SqlConnection(System.Configuration.ConfigurationManager.ConnectionStrings["ApplicationServices"].ConnectionString)) { string commandString = "UPDATE [impoundLotAlpha].[dbo].[Vehicle]" + "SET [VehicleMake] = @VehicleMake" + " WHERE [ComplaintID] = @ComplaintID"; using (SqlCommand command = new SqlCommand(commandString, connection)) { SqlTransaction transaction = null; try { command.Connection.Open(); transaction = connection.BeginTransaction(IsolationLevel.Serializable); command.Transaction = transaction; SqlParameter complaintID = new SqlParameter("@complaintID", SqlDbType.Int); complaintID.Value = HttpContext.Current.Request.QueryString["complaintID"]; command.Parameters.Add(complaintID); SqlParameter VehicleMake = new SqlParameter("@VehicleMake", SqlDbType.VarChar, 20); VehicleMake.Value = tbVehicleMake.Text; command.Parameters.Add(VehicleMake); command.ExecuteNonQuery(); transaction.Commit(); } catch { transaction.Rollback(); throw; } finally { connection.Close(); } } } } I've tried this with the "SqlTransaction" stuff and without it and nothing changes. Also, since I'm doing multiple updates at once, I want to have them act as a single transaction. I've found that it can be either done like this or by use of the classes included in the System.Transactions namespace (CommittableTransaction, TransactionScope...). I tried all I could find but didn't get any different results. The connection string in web.config is as follows: <connectionStrings> <add name="ApplicationServices" connectionString="Data Source=localhost;Initial Catalog=ImpoundLotAlpha;Integrated Security=True" providerName="System.Data.SqlClient"/> </connectionStrings> So, tldr; version: What is the mistake that I did with that record update attempt? (Figured it out, check below if you're having a similar issue.) What is the best method to gather multiple update commands as a single transaction? Thanks in advance for any kind of help and/or suggestions! Edit: It seems that I was lacking some sleep yesterday cause this time it only took me 5 minutes to figure out my mistake. Apparently the update was working properly but I failed to notice that the textbox values were being overwritten in Page_Load. For some reason I had this part commented: if (IsPostBack) return; The second part of the question still stands. But should I post this as an answer to my own question or keep it like this?

  • merge 2 php arrays which aren't of the same length by value

    - by Iain Urquhart
    Excuse me if this has indeed been asked before, I couldn't see anything that fitted my needs out of the dozens of similar titled posts out there ;) I'm trying to merge 2 php arrays which aren't of the same length, and merge them on a value that exists from identical key = values within both arrays. My first query produces an array from a nested set: array ( 1 => array ( 'node_id' => 1, 'lft' => 1, 'rgt' => 4, 'moved' => 0, 'label' => 'Home', 'entry_id' => 1, 'template_path' => '', 'custom_url' => '/', 'extra' => '', 'childs' => 1, 'level' => 0, 'lower' => 0, 'upper' => 0 ), 2 => array ( 'node_id' => 2, 'lft' => 2, 'rgt' => 3, 'moved' => 0, 'label' => 'Home', 'entry_id' => NULL, 'template_path' => '', 'custom_url' => 'http://google.com/', 'extra' => '', 'childs' => 0, 'level' => 1, 'lower' => 0, 'upper' => 0 ) ); My second array returns some additional key/values I'd like to insert to the above array: array ( 'entry_id' => 1, 'entry_title' => 'This is my title', ); I want to merge both of the arrays inserting the additional information into those that match on the key 'entry_id', as well as keeping the sub arrays which don't match. So, by combining the two arrays, I'd end up with array ( 1 => array ( 'node_id' => 1, 'lft' => 1, 'rgt' => 4, 'moved' => 0, 'label' => 'Home', 'entry_id' => 1, 'template_path' => '', 'custom_url' => '/', 'extra' => '', 'childs' => 1, 'level' => 0, 'lower' => 0, 'upper' => 0, 'entry_title' => 'This is my title' ), 2 => array ( 'node_id' => 2, 'lft' => 2, 'rgt' => 3, 'moved' => 0, 'label' => 'Home', 'entry_id' => NULL, 'template_path' => '', 'custom_url' => 'http://google.com/', 'extra' => '', 'childs' => 0, 'level' => 1, 'lower' => 0, 'upper' => 0, 'entry_title' => NULL ) ); Actually, writing this out makes me think I should do it via sql... Any help/advice greatly appreciated...

  • Multiple Notifications Not Firing

    - by motionpotion
    I'm scheduling two notifications as shown below. The app is a long-lived app. One local notification is scheduled to run every hour. The other is scheduled to run once per day. Only the second scheduled notification (the hourly notifcation) fires. - (void)scheduleNotification { LogInfo(@"IN scheduleNotification - DELETEYESTERDAY NOTIFICATION SCHEDULED."); UILocalNotification *notif = [[UILocalNotification alloc] init]; NSDictionary *deleteDict = [NSDictionary dictionaryWithObject:@"DeleteYesterday" forKey:@"DeleteYesterday"]; NSCalendar *calendar = [NSCalendar currentCalendar]; NSDateComponents *components = [[NSDateComponents alloc] init]; components = [[NSCalendar currentCalendar] components:NSDayCalendarUnit | NSMonthCalendarUnit | NSYearCalendarUnit fromDate:[NSDate date]]; NSInteger day = [components day]; NSInteger month = [components month]; NSInteger year = [components year]; [components setDay: day]; [components setMonth: month]; [components setYear: year]; [components setHour: 00]; [components setMinute: 45]; [components setSecond: 0]; [calendar setTimeZone: [NSTimeZone systemTimeZone]]; NSDate *dateToFire = [calendar dateFromComponents:components]; notif.fireDate = dateToFire; notif.timeZone = [NSTimeZone systemTimeZone]; notif.repeatInterval = NSDayCalendarUnit; notif.userInfo = deleteDict; [[UIApplication sharedApplication] scheduleLocalNotification:notif]; } and then I schedule this after above: - (void)scheduleHeartBeat { LogInfo(@"IN scheduleHeartBeat - HEARTBEAT NOTIFICATION SCHEDULED."); UILocalNotification *heartbeat = [[UILocalNotification alloc] init]; NSDictionary *heartbeatDict = [NSDictionary dictionaryWithObject:@"HeartBeat" forKey:@"HeartBeat"]; heartbeat.userInfo = heartbeatDict; NSCalendar *calendar = [NSCalendar currentCalendar]; NSDateComponents *components = [[NSDateComponents alloc] init]; components = [[NSCalendar currentCalendar] components:NSDayCalendarUnit | NSMonthCalendarUnit | NSYearCalendarUnit fromDate:[NSDate date]]; NSInteger day = [components day]; NSInteger month = [components month]; NSInteger year = [components year]; [components setDay: day]; [components setMonth: month]; [components setYear: year]; [components setHour: 00]; [components setMinute: 50]; [components setSecond: 0]; [calendar setTimeZone: [NSTimeZone systemTimeZone]]; NSDate *dateToFire = [calendar dateFromComponents:components]; heartbeat.fireDate = dateToFire; heartbeat.timeZone = [NSTimeZone systemTimeZone]; heartbeat.repeatInterval = NSHourCalendarUnit; [[UIApplication sharedApplication] scheduleLocalNotification:heartbeat]; } The above are scheduled when the app launches in the viewDidLoad of the main view controller. - (void)viewDidLoad { [self scheduleNotification]; [self scheduleHeartBeat]; [super viewDidLoad]; //OTHER CODE HERE } Then in the appdelegate I have the following: - (void)application:(UIApplication *)application didReceiveLocalNotification:(UILocalNotification *)notification { LogInfo(@"IN didReceiveLocalNotification NOTIFICATION RECEIVED."); NSString *notificationHeartBeat = nil; NSString *notificationDeleteYesterday = nil; application.applicationIconBadgeNumber = 0; if (notification) { notificationHeartBeat = [notification.userInfo objectForKey:@"HeartBeat"]; notificationDeleteYesterday = [notification.userInfo objectForKey:@"DeleteYesterday"]; LogInfo(@"IN didReceiveLocalNotification HEARTBEAT NOTIFICATION TYPE: %@", notificationHeartBeat); LogInfo(@"IN didReceiveLocalNotification DELETEYESTERDAY NOTIFICATION TYPE: %@", notificationDeleteYesterday); } if ([notificationHeartBeat isEqualToString:@"HeartBeat"]) { //CREATE THE HEARTBEAT LogInfo(@"CREATING THE HEARTBEAT."); //CALL THE FUNCTIONALITY HERE THAT CREATES HEARTBEAT. } if ([notificationDeleteYesterday isEqualToString:@"DeleteYesterday"]) { //DELETE YESTERDAYS RECORDS LogInfo(@"DELETING YESTERDAYS RECORDS."); } } The notification that is scheduled last (scheduleHeartBeat) is the only notification that is fired. Could somebody help me figure out why this is happening?

  • Subscribing message sent from another application

    - by tonga
    I have two Java applications: AppOne and AppTwo. In AppOne, I used a JMS sender to publish a Topic. In both AppOne and AppTwo, I used a JMS MessageListener to subscribe to the message published by AppOne. I used ActiveMQ as my JMS broker and Spring JMS. However, I can only see the echoed message received by AppOne message listener. But I can't see the echoed message received by AppTwo listener. AppOne message listener is in the same application/project as the message publisher. But AppTwo message listener is in a different application/project. The AppOne listener class is: public class CustomerStatusListener implements MessageListener { public void onMessage(Message message) { if (message instanceof TextMessage) { try { System.out.println("Subscriber 1 got you! The message is: " + ((TextMessage) message).getText()); } catch (JMSException ex) { throw new RuntimeException(ex); } } else { throw new IllegalArgumentException("Message must be of type TextMessage"); } } } It is invoked by a test calss JmsTest in AppOne: public class JmsTest { public static void main(String[] args) { ClassPathXmlApplicationContext context = new ClassPathXmlApplicationContext("message-bean.xml"); CustomerStatusSender messageSender = (CustomerStatusSender) context.getBean("customerMessageSender"); messageSender.simpleSend(); context.close(); } } The AppTwo listener class is: public class CustomerStatusMessageListener implements MessageListener { public void onMessage(Message message) { if (message instanceof TextMessage) { try { System.out.println("Subscriber 2 got you! The message is: " + ((TextMessage) message).getText()); } catch (JMSException ex) { throw new RuntimeException(ex); } } else { throw new IllegalArgumentException( "Message must be of type TextMessage"); } } } The bean definition file for AppTwo where the Subscriber 2 lives in is: <bean id="connectionFactoryBean" class="org.apache.activemq.ActiveMQConnectionFactory"> <property name="brokerURL" value="tcp://localhost:61616" /> </bean> <!-- this is the Message Driven POJO (MDP) --> <bean id="customerStatusListener" class="com.mydomain.jms.CustomerStatusMessageListener" /> <!-- and this is the message listener container --> <bean id="listenerContainer" class="org.springframework.jms.listener.DefaultMessageListenerContainer"> <property name="connectionFactory" ref="connectionFactoryBean" /> <property name="destination" ref="topicBean" /> <property name="messageListener" ref="customerStatusListener" /> </bean> The bean id topicBean is the bean that is associated with the publisher. If both listener received the message sent from AppOne, I would have seen two echoed messages: Subscriber 1 got you! The message is: hello world Subscriber 2 got you! The message is: hello world But right now I only see the first line which means only the listener in AppOne got the message. So how to let the listener in AppTwo get the message? The first listener is in the same application as the sender, so it is easy to understand that it can get the message. But how about the second listener which is in a different application? What is the correct way to subscribe to a JMS Topic published in another application?

  • z-index not working in IE8 with the sortable jQuery plugin

    - by Ojtwist
    I'm working with the jQuery Sortable plugin to drag and drop images from one box to another box. This works fine in ff,chrome and safari but it fails in IE8. It seems that when you start dragging that the image is send to the back. I've tried to solve this by adding the z-index option to the sortable plugin, i've tried appending it to a node higher in the hierarchy (body). It appears that setting a z-index on every other item in the page would fix this, haven't tried it yet and i'm not planning on doing this because this would mess up alot. So the user can drag an image from 1 gallery to the next gallery screenshot of how it should work: http://img69.imageshack.us/i/draganddrop.jpg/ Some html: <!--SECOND ARROCRDION ITEM --> <a class="flickr_accordeon_header" id="flickr_second_header" href="javascript:;">__MSG__SEARCH_FOR_PHOTOS__</a> <div> <p class ="flickr_text" > __MSG__SEARCH_FOR_PHOTOS__</p> <form method="GET" action="javascript:;"> <p> <input type="text" value="__MSG__SEARCH__" id="flickr_key_input" class="flickr_changeColorNormal" /> <button class="s3d-button flickr_search" id="flickr_seach_button"> <span class="s3d-button-inner" >__MSG__SEARCH__</span> </button> <img src="/devwidgets/flickr/images/ajax-loader-gray.gif" alt="__MSG__LOADING_IMAGE__" id="flickr_loading_img" /> <a href="javascript:;" id="flickr_refresh_key_button"><img src="/dev/_images/recent_activity_icon.png" alt="refresh" title='refresh' /></a> </p> </form> <div id="flickr_input_error">__MSG__INPUT_ERROR__</div> <div id="flickr_input_same_error">__MSG__INPUT_SAME_ERROR__</div> **<div id="flickr_key_gallery" ><ul class="flickr_key_ul"><li></li></ul></div>** <div id="flickr_key_pagging" ></div> </div> </div> <!--SLIDING SIDEBAR --> <div id="flickr_sidebar" class="jcarousel-skin-tango"> <div id="flickr_side_paging"></div> **<ul> <li><img src="/devwidgets/flickr/images/drop-image.png" alt="__MSG__DROP_HERE__" class="flick_drop_here"></li> </ul>** </div> The images get rendered into the ul, so basically it's just an ul with li's with images javascript for sortable: horizontal: { helper: "clone", // Instead of dragging the real image a copy will be dragged connectWith: ["#flickr_sidebar ul"], // To be able to drag and drop an image to another image gallery they need to be connected cursor: 'pointer', //change the cursor when dragging opacity: 0.50, //Change the opacity while dragging appendTo: 'body', //When dropped the images need to be appended to the image gallery where they are dropped containment: 'body', //Make sure the user can't drag the images outside the widget revert: true, // if the user releases the image ouside the dropbox it'll return to it's original position zIndex: 9999 } I've tried it with setting the dragged image to absolute and the container on relative... doesn't work Anyone know how to solve this in IE8 ?

  • Calculate the number of ways to roll a certain number

    - by helloworld
    I'm a high school Computer Science student, and today I was given a problem to: Program Description: There is a belief among dice players that in throwing three dice a ten is easier to get than a nine. Can you write a program that proves or disproves this belief? Have the computer compute all the possible ways three dice can be thrown: 1 + 1 + 1, 1 + 1 + 2, 1 + 1 + 3, etc. Add up each of these possibilities and see how many give nine as the result and how many give ten. If more give ten, then the belief is proven. I quickly worked out a brute force solution, as such int sum,tens,nines; tens=nines=0; for(int i=1;i<=6;i++){ for(int j=1;j<=6;j++){ for(int k=1;k<=6;k++){ sum=i+j+k; //Ternary operators are fun! tens+=((sum==10)?1:0); nines+=((sum==9)?1:0); } } } System.out.println("There are "+tens+" ways to roll a 10"); System.out.println("There are "+nines+" ways to roll a 9"); Which works just fine, and a brute force solution is what the teacher wanted us to do. However, it doesn't scale, and I am trying to find a way to make an algorithm that can calculate the number of ways to roll n dice to get a specific number. Therefore, I started generating the number of ways to get each sum with n dice. With 1 die, there is obviously 1 solution for each. I then calculated, through brute force, the combinations with 2 and 3 dice. These are for two: There are 1 ways to roll a 2 There are 2 ways to roll a 3 There are 3 ways to roll a 4 There are 4 ways to roll a 5 There are 5 ways to roll a 6 There are 6 ways to roll a 7 There are 5 ways to roll a 8 There are 4 ways to roll a 9 There are 3 ways to roll a 10 There are 2 ways to roll a 11 There are 1 ways to roll a 12 Which looks straightforward enough; it can be calculated with a simple linear absolute value function. But then things start getting trickier. With 3: There are 1 ways to roll a 3 There are 3 ways to roll a 4 There are 6 ways to roll a 5 There are 10 ways to roll a 6 There are 15 ways to roll a 7 There are 21 ways to roll a 8 There are 25 ways to roll a 9 There are 27 ways to roll a 10 There are 27 ways to roll a 11 There are 25 ways to roll a 12 There are 21 ways to roll a 13 There are 15 ways to roll a 14 There are 10 ways to roll a 15 There are 6 ways to roll a 16 There are 3 ways to roll a 17 There are 1 ways to roll a 18 So I look at that, and I think: Cool, Triangular numbers! However, then I notice those pesky 25s and 27s. So it's obviously not triangular numbers, but still some polynomial expansion, since it's symmetric. So I take to Google, and I come across this page that goes into some detail about how to do this with math. It is fairly easy(albeit long) to find this using repeated derivatives or expansion, but it would be much harder to program that for me. I didn't quite understand the second and third answers, since I have never encountered that notation or those concepts in my math studies before. Could someone please explain how I could write a program to do this, or explain the solutions given on that page, for my own understanding of combinatorics? EDIT: I'm looking for a mathematical way to solve this, that gives an exact theoretical number, not by simulating dice

  • C# ambiguity in Func + extension methods + lambdas

    - by Hobbes
    I've been trying to make my way through this article: http://blogs.msdn.com/wesdyer/archive/2008/01/11/the-marvels-of-monads.aspx ... And something on page 1 made me uncomfortable. In particular, I was trying to wrap my head around the Compose<() function, and I wrote an example for myself. Consider the following two Func's: Func<double, double> addTenth = x => x + 0.10; Func<double, string> toPercentString = x => (x * 100.0).ToString() + "%"; No problem! It's easy to understand what these two do. Now, following the example from the article, you can write a generic extension method to compose these functions, like so: public static class ExtensionMethods { public static Func<TInput, TLastOutput> Compose<TInput, TFirstOutput, TLastOutput>( this Func<TFirstOutput, TLastOutput> toPercentString, Func<TInput, TFirstOutput> addTenth) { return input => toPercentString(addTenth(input)); } } Fine. So now you can say: string x = toPercentString.Compose<double, double, string>(addTenth)(0.4); And you get the string "50%" So far, so good. But there's something ambiguous here. Let's say you write another extension method, so now you have two functions: public static class ExtensionMethods { public static Func<TInput, TLastOutput> Compose<TInput, TFirstOutput, TLastOutput>( this Func<TFirstOutput, TLastOutput> toPercentString, Func<TInput, TFirstOutput> addTenth) { return input => toPercentString(addTenth(input)); } public static Func<double, string> Compose<TInput, TFirstOutput, TLastOutput>(this Func<double, string> toPercentString, Func<double, double> addTenth) { return input => toPercentString(addTenth(input + 99999)); } } Herein is the ambiguity. Don't these two function have overlapping signatures? Yes. Does this even compile? Yes. Which one get's called? The second one (which clearly gives you the "wrong" result) gets called. If you comment out either function, it still compiles, but you get different results. It seems like nitpicking, but there's something that deeply offends my sensibilities here, and I can't put my finger on it. Does it have to do with extension methods? Does it have to do with lambdas? Or does it have to do with how Func< allows you to parameterize the return type? I'm not sure. I'm guessing that this is all addressed somewhere in the spec, but I don't even know what to Google to find this. Help!

  • C/PHP: How do I convert the following PHP JSON API script into a C plugin for apache?

    - by TeddyB
    I have a JSON API that I need to provide super fast access to my data through. The JSON API makes a simply query against the database based on the GET parameters provided. I've already optimized my database, so please don't recommend that as an answer. I'm using PHP-APC, which helps PHP by saving the bytecode, BUT - for a JSON API that is being called literally dozens of times per second (as indicated by my logs), I need to reduce the massive RAM consumption PHP is consuming ... as well as rewrite my JSON API in a language that execute much faster than PHP. My code is below. As you can see, is fairly straight forward. <?php define(ALLOWED_HTTP_REFERER, 'example.com'); if ( stristr($_SERVER['HTTP_REFERER'], ALLOWED_HTTP_REFERER) ) { try { $conn_str = DB . ':host=' . DB_HOST . ';dbname=' . DB_NAME; $dbh = new PDO($conn_str, DB_USERNAME, DB_PASSWORD); $params = array(); $sql = 'SELECT homes.home_id, address, city, state, zip FROM homes WHERE homes.display_status = true AND homes.geolat BETWEEN :geolatLowBound AND :geolatHighBound AND homes.geolng BETWEEN :geolngLowBound AND :geolngHighBound'; $params[':geolatLowBound'] = $_GET['geolatLowBound']; $params[':geolatHighBound'] = $_GET['geolatHighBound']; $params[':geolngLowBound'] =$_GET['geolngLowBound']; $params[':geolngHighBound'] = $_GET['geolngHighBound']; if ( isset($_GET['min_price']) && isset($_GET['max_price']) ) { $sql = $sql . ' AND homes.price BETWEEN :min_price AND :max_price '; $params[':min_price'] = $_GET['min_price']; $params[':max_price'] = $_GET['max_price']; } if ( isset($_GET['min_beds']) && isset($_GET['max_beds']) ) { $sql = $sql . ' AND homes.num_of_beds BETWEEN :min_beds AND :max_beds '; $params['min_beds'] = $_GET['min_beds']; $params['max_beds'] = $_GET['max_beds']; } if ( isset($_GET['min_sqft']) && isset($_GET['max_sqft']) ) { $sql = $sql . ' AND homes.sqft BETWEEN :min_sqft AND :max_sqft '; $params['min_sqft'] = $_GET['min_sqft']; $params['max_sqft'] = $_GET['max_sqft']; } $stmt = $dbh->prepare($sql); $stmt->execute($params); $result_set = $stmt->fetchAll(PDO::FETCH_ASSOC); /* output a JSON representation of the home listing data retrieved */ ob_start("ob_gzhandler"); // compress the output header('Content-type: text/javascript'); print "{'homes' : "; array_walk_recursive($result_set, "cleanOutputFromXSS"); print json_encode( $result_set ); print '}'; $dbh = null; } catch (PDOException $e) { die('Unable to retreive home listing information'); } } function cleanOutputFromXSS(&$value) { $value = htmlspecialchars($value, ENT_QUOTES, 'UTF-8'); } ?> How would I begin converting this PHP code over to C, since C is both better on memory management (since you do it yourself) and much, much faster to execute?

  • CSS - Can't get the z-index to apply correctly in Internet Explorer

    - by peaki
    I've written a jQuery script to replace <select /> elements with some DIV's and UL's allowing my to simulate the original SELECT but also allow me to style it. So far, aside from a few minor bugs, it works rather nicely. However, in Internet Explorer, the 'options' div is getting rendered underneath the elements below the div. Here's the HTML: <div class="styledSelect-parent" style="display: inline-block; width: 59px;"> <div class="styledSelect-newSelect" style="position: relative;"> <input class="styledSelect-newSelect-selector" style="width: 59px;" readonly="readonly" name="hello" value="Test1" type="text"> <div class="styledSelect-newSelect-options" style="display: none; z-index: 20; width: 59px; position: absolute; left: 0px; top: 18px;"> <ul> <li>Test1</li> <li>Test2</li> <li>Test3</li> <li class="styledSelect-active">Test4</li> <li>Test1</li> <li>Test2</li> </ul> </div> </div> </div> <br /><br /> <div class="styledSelect-parent" style="display: inline-block; width: 59px;"> <div class="styledSelect-newSelect" style="position: relative;"> <input class="styledSelect-newSelect-selector" style="width: 59px;" readonly="readonly" name="hello" value="Test1" type="text"> <div class="styledSelect-newSelect-options" style="display: none; z-index: 20; width: 59px; position: absolute; left: 0px; top: 18px;"> <ul> <li class="styledSelect-active">Test1</li> <li>Test2</li> <li>Test3</li> </ul> </div> </div> </div> If I open the first select, the LI list sits underneath the second select box rather than above it. I can't get the z-indexes to work properly. What am I missing? :/

  • Can i use a switch to hold a function?

    I have a 3 file program, basically teaching myself c++. I have an issue. I made a switch to use the math function. I need and put it in a variable, but for some reason I get a zero as a result. Also another issue, when I select 4 (divide) it crashes... Is there a reason? Main file: #include <iostream> #include "math.h" #include <string> using namespace std; int opersel; int c; int a; int b; string test; int main(){ cout << "Welcome to Math-matrix v.34"<< endl; cout << "Shall we begin?" <<endl; //ASK USER IF THEY ARE READY TO BEGIN string answer; cin >> answer; if(answer == "yes" || answer == "YES" || answer == "Yes") { cout << "excellent lets begin..." << endl; cout << "please select a operator..." << endl << endl; cout << "(1) + " << endl; cout << "(2) - " << endl; cout << "(3) * " << endl; cout << "(4) / " << endl; cin >> opersel; switch(opersel){ case 1: c = add(a,b); break; case 2: c = sub(a,b); break; case 3: c = multi(a,b); break; case 4: c = divide(a,b); break; default: cout << "error... retry" << endl; }// end retry cout << "alright, how please select first digit?" << endl; cin >> a; cout << "excellent... and your second?" << endl; cin >> b; cout << c; cin >> test; }else if (answer == "no" || answer == "NO" || answer == "No"){ }//GAME ENDS }// end of int main Here is my math.h file #ifndef MATH_H #define MATH_H int add(int a, int b); int sub(int a, int b); int multi(int a, int b); int divide(int a, int b); #endif Here is my math.cpp: int add(int a, int b) { return a + b; } int sub(int a, int b) { return a - b; } int multi(int a, int b) { return a * b; } int divide(int a, int b) { return a / b; } }// end of int main

  • Haskell: monadic takeWhile?

    - by Mark Rushakoff
    I have some functions written in C that I call from Haskell. These functions return IO (CInt). Sometimes I want to run all of the functions regardless of what any of them return, and this is easy. For sake of example code, this is the general idea of what's happening currently: Prelude> let f x = print x >> return x Prelude> mapM_ f [0..5] 0 1 2 3 4 5 Prelude> I get my desired side effects, and I don't care about the results. But now I need to stop execution immediately after the first item that doesn't return my desired result. Let's say a return value of 4 or higher requires execution to stop - then what I want to do is this: Prelude> takeWhile (<4) $ mapM f [0..5] Which gives me this error: <interactive:1:22: Couldn't match expected type `[b]' against inferred type `IO a' In the first argument of `mapM', namely `f' In the second argument of `($)', namely `mapM f ([0 .. 5])' In the expression: takeWhile (< 4) $ mapM f ([0 .. 5]) And that makes sense to me - the result is still contained in the IO monad, and I can't just compare two values contained in the IO monad. I know this is precisely the purpose of monads -- chaining results together and discarding operations when a certain condition is met -- but is there an easy way to "wrap up" the IO monad in this case to stop executing the chain upon a condition of my choosing, without writing an instance of MonadPlus? Can I just "unlift" the values from f, for the purposes of the takeWhile? Is this a solution where functors fit? Functors haven't "clicked" with me yet, but I sort of have the impression that this might be a good situation to use them. Update: @sth has the closest answer to what I want - in fact, that's almost exactly what I was going for, but I'd still like to see whether there is a standard solution that isn't explicitly recursive -- this is Haskell, after all! Looking back on how I worded my question, now I can see that I wasn't clear enough about my desired behavior. The f function I used above for an example was merely an example. The real functions are written in C and used exclusively for their side effects. I can't use @Tom's suggestion of mapM_ f (takeWhile (&lt;4) [0..5]) because I have no idea whether any input will really result in success or failure until executed. I don't actually care about the returned list, either -- I just want to call the C functions until either the list is exhausted or the first C function returns a failure code. In C-style pseudocode, my behavior would be: do { result = function_with_side_effects(input_list[index++]); } while (result == success && index < max_index); So again, @sth's answer performs the exact behavior that I want, except that the results may (should?) be discarded. A dropWhileM_ function would be equivalent for my purposes. Why isn't there a function like that or takeWhileM_ in Control.Monad? I see that there was a similar discussion on a mailing list, but it appears that nothing has come of that.

  • Trying to packetize TCP with non-blocking IO is hard! Am I doing something wrong?

    - by Ricket
    Oh how I wish TCP was packet-based like UDP is! But alas, that's not the case, so I'm trying to implement my own packet layer. Here's the chain of events so far (ignoring writing packets) Oh, and my Packets are very simply structured: two unsigned bytes for length, and then byte[length] data. (I can't imagine if they were any more complex, I'd be up to my ears in if statements!) Server is in an infinite loop, accepting connections and adding them to a list of Connections. PacketGatherer (another thread) uses a Selector to figure out which Connection.SocketChannels are ready for reading. It loops over the results and tells each Connection to read(). Each Connection has a partial IncomingPacket and a list of Packets which have been fully read and are waiting to be processed. On read(): Tell the partial IncomingPacket to read more data. (IncomingPacket.readData below) If it's done reading (IncomingPacket.complete()), make a Packet from it and stick the Packet into the list waiting to be processed and then replace it with a new IncomingPacket. There are a couple problems with this. First, only one packet is being read at a time. If the IncomingPacket needs only one more byte, then only one byte is read this pass. This can of course be fixed with a loop but it starts to get sorta complicated and I wonder if there is a better overall way. Second, the logic in IncomingPacket is a little bit crazy, to be able to read the two bytes for the length and then read the actual data. Here is the code, boiled down for quick & easy reading: int readBytes; // number of total bytes read so far byte length1, length2; // each byte in an unsigned short int (see getLength()) public int getLength() { // will be inaccurate if readBytes < 2 return (int)(length1 << 8 | length2); } public void readData(SocketChannel c) { if (readBytes < 2) { // we don't yet know the length of the actual data ByteBuffer lengthBuffer = ByteBuffer.allocate(2 - readBytes); numBytesRead = c.read(lengthBuffer); if(readBytes == 0) { if(numBytesRead >= 1) length1 = lengthBuffer.get(); if(numBytesRead == 2) length2 = lengthBuffer.get(); } else if(readBytes == 1) { if(numBytesRead == 1) length2 = lengthBuffer.get(); } readBytes += numBytesRead; } if(readBytes >= 2) { // then we know we have the entire length variable // lazily-instantiate data buffers based on getLength() // read into data buffers, increment readBytes // (does not read more than the amount of this packet, so it does not // need to handle overflow into the next packet's data) } } public boolean complete() { return (readBytes > 2 && readBytes == getLength()+2); } Basically I need feedback on my code. Please suggest any improvements. Even overhauling my entire system would be okay, if you have suggestions for how better to implement the whole thing. Book recommendations are welcome too; I love books. I just get the feeling that something isn't quite right.

  • C++ pimpl idiom wastes an instruction vs. C style?

    - by Rob
    (Yes, I know that one machine instruction usually doesn't matter. I'm asking this question because I want to understand the pimpl idiom, and use it in the best possible way; and because sometimes I do care about one machine instruction.) In the sample code below, there are two classes, Thing and OtherThing. Users would include "thing.hh". Thing uses the pimpl idiom to hide it's implementation. OtherThing uses a C style – non-member functions that return and take pointers. This style produces slightly better machine code. I'm wondering: is there a way to use C++ style – ie, make the functions into member functions – and yet still save the machine instruction. I like this style because it doesn't pollute the namespace outside the class. Note: I'm only looking at calling member functions (in this case, calc). I'm not looking at object allocation. Below are the files, commands, and the machine code, on my Mac. thing.hh: class ThingImpl; class Thing { ThingImpl *impl; public: Thing(); int calc(); }; class OtherThing; OtherThing *make_other(); int calc(OtherThing *); thing.cc: #include "thing.hh" struct ThingImpl { int x; }; Thing::Thing() { impl = new ThingImpl; impl->x = 5; } int Thing::calc() { return impl->x + 1; } struct OtherThing { int x; }; OtherThing *make_other() { OtherThing *t = new OtherThing; t->x = 5; } int calc(OtherThing *t) { return t->x + 1; } main.cc (just to test the code actually works...) #include "thing.hh" #include <cstdio> int main() { Thing *t = new Thing; printf("calc: %d\n", t->calc()); OtherThing *t2 = make_other(); printf("calc: %d\n", calc(t2)); } Makefile: all: main thing.o : thing.cc thing.hh g++ -fomit-frame-pointer -O2 -c thing.cc main.o : main.cc thing.hh g++ -fomit-frame-pointer -O2 -c main.cc main: main.o thing.o g++ -O2 -o $@ $^ clean: rm *.o rm main Run make and then look at the machine code. On the mac I use otool -tv thing.o | c++filt. On linux I think it's objdump -d thing.o. Here is the relevant output: Thing::calc(): 0000000000000000 movq (%rdi),%rax 0000000000000003 movl (%rax),%eax 0000000000000005 incl %eax 0000000000000007 ret calc(OtherThing*): 0000000000000010 movl (%rdi),%eax 0000000000000012 incl %eax 0000000000000014 ret Notice the extra instruction because of the pointer indirection. The first function looks up two fields (impl, then x), while the second only needs to get x. What can be done?

  • C++ - getline() keeps reading the same line over and over again for some reason

    - by Jammanuser
    I am wondering WTF my while loop which calls istream& getline ( istream& is, string& str ); keeps reading the same line again. I have the following while loop (nested down several levels of other while loops and if statements) which calls getline, but my output statement which is the first code line in the while loop's block of code tells me it is reading the same line over and over again, which explains why my output file doesn't contain the right data when my program is finished. while (getline(file_handle, buffer_str)) { cout<< buffer_str <<endl; cin.get(); if ((buffer_str.find(';', 0) != string::npos) && (buffer_str.find('\"', 0) != string::npos)) { //we're now at the end of the 'exc' initialiation statement buffer_str.erase(buffer_str.size() - 2, 1); buffer_str += '\n'; for (size_t i = 0; i < pos; i++) { buffer_str += ' '; } buffer_str += "throw(exc);\n"; for (size_t i = 0; i < (pos - 3); i++) { buffer_str += ' '; } buffer_str += '}'; } else if (buffer_str.find(search_str6, 0) != string::npos) { //we're now at the second problem line of the first case buffer_str += " {\n"; output_str += buffer_str; output_str += '\n'; getline(file_handle, buffer_str); //We're now at the beginning of the 'exc' initialiation statement output_str += buffer_str; output_str += '\n'; while (getline(file_handle, buffer_str)) { if ((buffer_str.find(';', 0) != string::npos) && (buffer_str.find('\"', 0) != string::npos)) { //we're now at the end of the 'exc' initialiation statement buffer_str.erase(buffer_str.size() - 2, 1); buffer_str += '\n'; for (size_t i = 0; i < pos; i++) { buffer_str += ' '; } buffer_str += "throw(exc);\n"; for (size_t i = 0; i < (pos - 3); i++) { buffer_str += ' '; } buffer_str += '}'; } output_str += buffer_str; output_str += '\n'; if (buffer_str.find("return", 0) != string::npos) { getline(file_handle, buffer_str); output_str += buffer_str; output_str += '\n'; about_to_break = true; break; //out of this while loop } } } if (about_to_break) { break; //out of the level 3 while loop (execution then goes back up to beginning of level 2 while loop) } output_str += buffer_str; output_str += '\n'; } Because of this problem, my if statement and then my else statement in my loop are not functioning as they should, and it doesn't break out of that loop when it should (though it eventually does break out of it, but I don't know exactly how yet). Anyone have any idea what could be causing this problem?? Thanks in advance.

  • Using javascript, show a certain amount of divs based on an answer

    - by Adam
    I'm building a form that first asks if you have 'foo'. If the answer is 'Yes', a div appears and asks 'How many foo do you have'? Based on the quantity answered, I'd like to show only that many divs. Thus if the user answers 1, only the first div will show. If they answer three, the first three will show. I have it set so that if the user answers no, the question of the amount remains hidden, but if they answer yes, they would be prompted for the quantity. This is what I've got so far... <script type="text/javascript"> $(document).ready(function(){ $(window).load(function() { $('#amt_of_foo,.foo_panels').hide(); }); $('#yes_foo').click(function() { $('#amt_of_foo').show(); }); $('#no_foo').click(function() { $('.foo_panels,#amt_of_foo').hide(); }); }); </script> </head> <body> <ul> <li> <div class="panel section_panel"> <h2>Questions About Your Foo</h2> <span>Do you have foo?:</span> <input type="radio" name="foo" id="no_foo" /> No <br /> <input type="radio" name="foo" id="yes_foo" /> Yes:</span></span> <span id="amt_of_foo"> <span>How many foo do you have?:</span> <span><input id="qty_of_foo" type="text" size="5" /> </span> </span> </div> </li> <!--answered yes to foo, and entered amount--> <div class="foo_panels"> <li> <li> <div class="panel foo_1"> <h1>First foo's information</h1> <span>Foo name:&nbsp;<input type="text" size="20" /></span> </div> </li> <li> <div class="panel foo_2"> <h1>Second foo's information</h1> <span>Foo name:&nbsp;<input type="text" size="20" /></span> </div> </li> <li> <div class="panel foo_3"> <h1>Third foo's information</h1> <span>Foo name:&nbsp;<input type="text" size="20" /></span> </div> </li> </div> <!--answered no to foo--> <li> <div class="panel"> <h1>Next Question, if no foo</h1> </div> </li> </ul> The ul is used for a jQuery 'slider' plugin. the 'panel' class is used for global css.
