    I am trying to insert NULL value in Sql Server if I have null value in corresponding C# String object like below : String Residence = xmlDoc.Descendants("Appointment").Single().Element("StateOfResidence") == null ? null : xmlDoc.Descendants("Appointment").Elements("StateOfResidence").Single().Value; I am using Entity framework for Database access. So if Residence is null, 'NULL' gets inserted into Database instead of NULL. How can insert NULL for null ?

    Hi, There seemes to be a consistent problem with the following situation: Say you have a VS2008 solution, consisting of a (say console) application written in vb.net, and a class library written in c#. The application references the class library project. This, of course, complies and works well. However, when you right-click (in the vb.net application code) a function prototype/object type defined in the class library, and select "Go to definition", the object browser opens providing you with the the list of methods available for the class the class library consists of. BAD. However, if you try to do the same when both the application and cl are in c#, this works just fine and you navigate driectly to the relevant function/class.GOOD. Known issue? Solvable?

  • Run a SQL Script Against MySQL using Powershell

    I have a Powershell script that backs up my MySQL DB's each night using mysqldump. This all works fine but I would like to extend the script to update a reporting db (db1) from the backup of the prod db (db2). I have written the following test script but it does not work. I have a feeling the problem is the reading of the sql file to the CommandText but I am not sure how to debug.   • A NSMutableArray is destroying my life!

    EDITED to show the relevant part of the code Hi. There's a strange problem with an NSMutableArray which I'm just not understanding... Explaining: I have a NSMutableArray, defined as a property (nonatomic, retain), synthesized, and initialized with 29 elements. realSectionNames = [[NSMutableArray alloc] initWithCapacity:29]; After the initialization, I can insert elements as I wish and everything seems to be working fine. While I'm running the application, however, if I insert a new element in the array, I can print the array in the function where I inserted the element, and everything seems ok. However, when I select a row in the table, and I need to read that array, my application crashes. In fact, it cannot even print the array anymore. Is there any "magical and logical trick" everybody should know when using a NSMutableArray that a beginner like myself can be missing? Thanks a lot. I declare my array as realSectionNames = [[NSMutableArray alloc] initWithCapacity:29]; I insert objects in my array with [realSectionNames addObject:[category categoryFirstLetter]]; although I know i can also insert it with [realSectionNames insertObject:[category categoryFirstLetter] atIndex:i]; where the "i" is the first non-occupied position. After the insertion, I reload the data of my tableView. Printing the array before or after reloading the data shows it has the desired information. After that, selecting a row at the table makes the application crash. This realSectionNames is used in several UITableViewDelegate functions, but for the case it doesn't matter. What truly matters is that printing the array in the beginning of the didSelectRowAtIndexPath function crashes everything (and of course, doesn't print anything).   • NHibernate - get List<long> representing primary keys?

    I have a situation where I definitely don't want to get the whole domain object. Basically, the entity has a primary key of long (.NET)/bigint(sql server 2005). I simply need to pass the primary key to an external system which will access the database directly - and since the list of ids could be large, I don't want to rehydrate the entire domain object just to get the Id. In linq2sql, I could accomplish this with a projection, but I am restricted to NHibernate 1.2.1.4000, which doesn't support Linq. Is there a way to accomplish this using NHibernate 1.2.1.4000? (I am open to using a named-query if that will work)

    I'm using javascript to generate a high resolution grid for an image that I generated on a web server. The high-resolution grid is composed of a 'map' element with hundreds of 'area' child elements. Each 'area' element has onmouseover attribute that causes the display of a popup box. After assigning the map to the img (via the usemap attribute), Internet explorer ignores the 'onmouseover' attribute of the area elements that I added via javascript. The behavior is not caused by syntactical variations between IE and other browsers. A static map behaves correctly. Only the elements that I add dynamically to an existing image map fail to fire their corresponding mouse-over events.   • correct way to store an exception in a variable

    I have an API which internally has some exceptions for error reporting. The basic structure is that it has a root exception object which inherits from std::exception, then it will throw some subclass of that. Since catching an exception thrown in one library and catching it in another can lead to undefined behavior (at least Qt complains about it and disallows it in many contexts). I would like to wrap the library calls in functions which will return a status code, and if an exception occurred, a copy of the exception object. What is the best way to store an exception (with it's polymorphic behavior) for later use? I believe that the c++0x futures API makes use of something like this. So what is the best approach? The best I can think of is to have a clone() method in each exception class which will return a pointer to an exception of the same type. But that's not very generic and doesn't deal with standard exceptions at all. Any thoughts?

    I'm looking for a collection that offers list semantics, but also allows array semantics. Say I have a list with the following items: apple orange carrot pear then my container array would: container[0] == apple container[1] == orangle container[2] == carrot Then say I delete the orange element: container[0] == apple container[1] == carrot I don't particularly care if sort order is maintained, I'd just like the array values to function as accelerators to the list items, and I want to collapse gaps in the array without having to do an explicit resizing.

  • Is there a way to automate MS Office applications without license?

    I am currently writing an application that will perform automation in Excel. I have MS Office (2007) installed on my work computer and the application is working fine referencing the the Microsoft Excel 12.0 Object Lirary. The target machine has the Office installed but not registered. It is one of those preinstalled editions. Attempting to run the application on the target machine I get an error saying Office is not installed? I'm assuming then you have to have a registed Office to use the object libraries? Is there anyway around this as I do not have a Office license key lying around and its quite expensive?

  • Why use event listeners over function calls?

    I've been studying event listeners lately and I think I've finally gotten them down. Basically, they are functions that are called on another object's method. My question is, why create an event listener when calling the function will work just fine? Example, I want to call player.display_health(), and when this is fired, the method player.get_health() should be fired and stored so that display_health() has access to it. Why should I use an event listener over simply calling the function? Even if display_health() were in another object, this still doesn't appear to be a problem to me. If you have another example that fits the usage better, please let me know. Perhaps particular languages don't benefit from it as much? (Javascript, PHP, ASP?)

To keep my (php) model scripts organised i am storing them in two folders: MyComponent\ controllers\ models\ domain\ <- domain objects, DDD repository, DDD factory daccess\ <- PoEAA data mappers, SQL queries etc views\ But now I am racking my brains wondering where my lazy loading collection sits. Any suggestions / justifications for putting it in one place over another another?     Hello all, Both the MySQLi and MySQLi_STMT classes have an $insert_id property. If I am connected to my database using a MySQLi object (say $db), and then I perform an INSERT with a MySQLi_STMT object (say $stmt), to get the id of the last INSERT, should I use: $last_id = $db->insert_id; or $last_id = $stmt->insert_id; Or would they be the same, in which case it doesn't matter? I thought this might be a quick answer for someone, and save me the time of writing the test code to check it. Thanks in advance as always.

    Is there a way to know what parameters are needed by an event in Visual Studio 2010? Let's say I have a DropDownList control and I want to bind a method to the "OnSelectedIndexChanged", I would do something like this In the ASPX File: <asp:DropDownList ID="lstMyList" runat="server" OnSelectedIndexChanged="lstMyList_SelectedIndexChanged"></asp:DropDownList> In the codebehind: protected void lstMyList_SelectedIndexChanged(object sender, EventArgs e) { ... } Is there a way to know what parameters the method needs? (In this case, an object for the sender and an EventArgs parameter for the event.) I know you can easily create the method by double-clicking the right event in Design Mode, but it does a mess with your code so I prefer not to use it. Thanks!
