  Hi guys, the problem is: I want to use the same ColorConvertedBitmap object for two purposes, firstly I set everyting: ColorConvertedBitmap conv = new ColorConvertedBitmap(); conv.BeginInit(); conv.SourceColorContext = new ColorContext(PixelFormats.Bgra32); conv.Source = myImage; conv.DestinationFormat = PixelFormats.Pbgra32; conv.DestinationColorContext = new ColorContext(PixelFormats.Pbgra32); conv.EndInit(); and then I would like to use the same object for another transformation.   I'm looking for a collection that offers list semantics, but also allows array semantics. Say I have a list with the following items: apple orange carrot pear then my container array would: container[0] == apple container[1] == orangle container[2] == carrot Then say I delete the orange element: container[0] == apple container[1] == carrot I don't particularly care if sort order is maintained, I'd just like the array values to function as accelerators to the list items, and I want to collapse gaps in the array without having to do an explicit resizing.

• NHibernate - get List<long> representing primary keys?

  I have a situation where I definitely don't want to get the whole domain object. Basically, the entity has a primary key of long (.NET)/bigint(sql server 2005). I simply need to pass the primary key to an external system which will access the database directly - and since the list of ids could be large, I don't want to rehydrate the entire domain object just to get the Id. In linq2sql, I could accomplish this with a projection, but I am restricted to NHibernate 1.2.1.4000, which doesn't support Linq. Is there a way to accomplish this using NHibernate 1.2.1.4000? (I am open to using a named-query if that will work)

• A NSMutableArray is destroying my life!

  EDITED to show the relevant part of the code Hi. There's a strange problem with an NSMutableArray which I'm just not understanding... Explaining: I have a NSMutableArray, defined as a property (nonatomic, retain), synthesized, and initialized with 29 elements. realSectionNames = [[NSMutableArray alloc] initWithCapacity:29]; After the initialization, I can insert elements as I wish and everything seems to be working fine. While I'm running the application, however, if I insert a new element in the array, I can print the array in the function where I inserted the element, and everything seems ok. However, when I select a row in the table, and I need to read that array, my application crashes. In fact, it cannot even print the array anymore. Is there any "magical and logical trick" everybody should know when using a NSMutableArray that a beginner like myself can be missing? Thanks a lot. I declare my array as realSectionNames = [[NSMutableArray alloc] initWithCapacity:29]; I insert objects in my array with [realSectionNames addObject:[category categoryFirstLetter]]; although I know i can also insert it with [realSectionNames insertObject:[category categoryFirstLetter] atIndex:i]; where the "i" is the first non-occupied position. After the insertion, I reload the data of my tableView. Printing the array before or after reloading the data shows it has the desired information. After that, selecting a row at the table makes the application crash. This realSectionNames is used in several UITableViewDelegate functions, but for the case it doesn't matter. What truly matters is that printing the array in the beginning of the didSelectRowAtIndexPath function crashes everything (and of course, doesn't print anything). • What wording in the C++ standard allows static_cast<non-void-type*>(malloc(N)); to work?

  As far as I understand the wording in 5.2.9 Static cast, the only time the result of a void*-to-object-pointer conversion is allowed is when the void* was a result of the inverse conversion in the first place. Throughout the standard there is a bunch of references to the representation of a pointer, and the representation of a void pointer being the same as that of a char pointer, and so on, but it never seems to explicitly say that casting an arbitrary void pointer yields a pointer to the same location in memory, with a different type, much like type-punning is undefined where not punning back to an object's actual type. So while malloc clearly returns the address of suitable memory and so on, there does not seem to be any way to actually make use of it, portably, as far as I have seen.

• GameKit Bluetooth Transfer Problem

  Hi, I am trying to send a file via Bluetooth using the GameKit framework. The problem I am having though is that I can only send one NSData object at a time, but I need to save it on the other end. this obviously isn't possible without knowing the filename, but i don't know how to transmit that. I've tried to convert it to a string NSData*data = [NSData dataWithContentsOfFile:urlAddress]; but i can only send one NSData object, not two. Has anyone come across this problem yet?

• JQuery delay()-function breaks loop?

  I'm trying to fade an element in and out, but with a slight pause in between, it works without the pause, but when I add the pause using the jQuery delay()-function, it just stops; Here's the code: $('#headerimage2').each(function(){ for(i=1;i<50;i++){ $(this).fadeOut(1200).delay(1000).fadeIn(1000).delay(1000); } }); Why does the delay()-function (both first and second) break the loop?

• Memory leak when declaring NSString from ABRecordCopyValue

  I am using the following line of code... NSString *clientFirstName = (NSString *)ABRecordCopyValue(person, kABPersonFirstNameProperty); The 'analyse' feature on Xcode is saying that this giving rise to a potential memory leak. I am not releasing clientFirstName at all as I have neither alloc or retain'd it. However, I am conscious that ABRecordCopyValue may not be returning an object as say a command like [NSMutableArray arrayWithArray:someArray] would which might mean I am indeed creating a new object that I control and must release. Keen to hear thoughts...

• Why use event listeners over function calls?

  I've been studying event listeners lately and I think I've finally gotten them down. Basically, they are functions that are called on another object's method. My question is, why create an event listener when calling the function will work just fine? Example, I want to call player.display_health(), and when this is fired, the method player.get_health() should be fired and stored so that display_health() has access to it. Why should I use an event listener over simply calling the function? Even if display_health() were in another object, this still doesn't appear to be a problem to me. If you have another example that fits the usage better, please let me know. Perhaps particular languages don't benefit from it as much? (Javascript, PHP, ASP?)

  I am currently writing an application that will perform automation in Excel. I have MS Office (2007) installed on my work computer and the application is working fine referencing the the Microsoft Excel 12.0 Object Lirary. The target machine has the Office installed but not registered. It is one of those preinstalled editions. Attempting to run the application on the target machine I get an error saying Office is not installed? I'm assuming then you have to have a registed Office to use the object libraries? Is there anyway around this as I do not have a Office license key lying around and its quite expensive?

  I'm using javascript to generate a high resolution grid for an image that I generated on a web server. The high-resolution grid is composed of a 'map' element with hundreds of 'area' child elements. Each 'area' element has onmouseover attribute that causes the display of a popup box. After assigning the map to the img (via the usemap attribute), Internet explorer ignores the 'onmouseover' attribute of the area elements that I added via javascript. The behavior is not caused by syntactical variations between IE and other browsers. A static map behaves correctly. Only the elements that I add dynamically to an existing image map fail to fire their corresponding mouse-over events. • Does add() on LinkedBlockingQueue notify waiting threads?

  I have a consumer thread taking elements from a LinkedBlockingQueue, and I make it sleep manually when it's empty. I use peek() to see if the queue empty because I have to do stuff because sending the thread to sleep, and I do that with queue.wait(). So, when I'm in another thread and add()an element to the queue, does that automatically notify the thread that was wait()ing on the queue?

• Peek ahead when iterating an array in PHP 5.2

  Is it possible to "peek ahead" while iterating an array in PHP 5.2? For example, I often use foreach to manipulate data from an array: foreach($array as $object) { // do something } But I often need to peek at the next element while going through the array. I know I could use a for loop and reference the next item by it's index ($array[$i+1]), but it wouldn't work for associative arrays. Is there any elegant solution for my problem, perhaps involving SPL?

• jQuery.param() - doesn't serialize javascript Date objects?

  jQuery.param({foo: 1}); // => "foo=1" - SUCCESS! jQuery.param({bar: new Date()}); // => "" - OUCH! There is no problem with encodeURIComponent(new Date()), which is what I would have thought param is calling for each member. Also, explicitly using "traditional" param (e.g. jQuery.param(xxx, true)) DOES serialize the date, but alas, that isn't of much help since my data structure isn't flat. Is this because typeof(Date) == "object" and param tries to descend into it to find scalar values? How might one realistically serialize an object that happens to have Date's in it for $.post() etc.?

Will it create a new object if I just use a normal static class. class registry { public static function doSomething() { echo 'something'; } } Now I can just use: registry::doSomethine(); Can someone explain to me what the function is of the singleton class. I really do not understand this.

• correct way to store an exception in a variable

  I have an API which internally has some exceptions for error reporting. The basic structure is that it has a root exception object which inherits from std::exception, then it will throw some subclass of that. Since catching an exception thrown in one library and catching it in another can lead to undefined behavior (at least Qt complains about it and disallows it in many contexts). I would like to wrap the library calls in functions which will return a status code, and if an exception occurred, a copy of the exception object. What is the best way to store an exception (with it's polymorphic behavior) for later use? I believe that the c++0x futures API makes use of something like this. So what is the best approach? The best I can think of is to have a clone() method in each exception class which will return a pointer to an exception of the same type. But that's not very generic and doesn't deal with standard exceptions at all. Any thoughts?

The relationship show up, but if call User.relationships.friends it should run the friends() method, but its failing. Any ideas how i would do this? Thanks
