    Using MySql 5, I have a task where I need to update one table based on the contents of another table. For example, I need to add 'A1' to table 'A' if table 'B' contains 'B1'. I need to add 'A2a' and 'A2b' to table 'A' if table 'B' contains 'B2', etc.. In our case, the value in table 'B' we're interested is an enum. Right now I have a stored procedure containing a series of statements like: INSERT INTO A SELECT 'A1' FROM B WHERE B.Value = 'B1'; --Repeat for 'B2' -> 'A2a', 'A2b'; 'B3' -> 'A3', etc... Is there a nicer more DRY way of accomplishing this?

    I would need some help on how to optimize the query. select * from transaction where id < 7500001 order by id desc limit 16 when i do an explain plan on this - the type is "range" and rows is "7500000" According to the some online reference's this is explained as, it took the query 7,500,000 rows to scan and get the data. Is there any way i can optimize so it uses less rows to scan and get the data. Also, id is the primary key column.

  • Reflection in unit tests for checking code coverage

    Here's the scenario. I have VO (Value Objects) or DTO objects that are just containers for data. When I take those and split them apart for saving into a DB that (for lots of reasons) doesn't map to the VO's elegantly, I want to test to see if each field is successfully being created in the database and successfully read back in to rebuild the VO. Is there a way I can test that my tests cover every field in the VO? I had an idea about using reflection to iterate through the fields of the VO's as part of the solution, but maybe you guys have solved the problem before? I want this test to fail when I add fields in the VO, and don't remember to add checks for it in my tests.

  • To Interface or Not?: Creating a polymorphic model relationship in Ruby on Rails dynamically..

    Please bear with me for a moment as I try to explain exactly what I would like to achieve. In my Ruby on Rails application I have a model called Page. It represents a web page. I would like to enable the user to arbitrarily attach components to the page. Some examples of "components" would be Picture, PictureCollection, Video, VideoCollection, Background, Audio, Form, Comments. Currently I have a direct relationship between Page and Picture like this: class Page < ActiveRecord::Base has_many :pictures, :as => :imageable, :dependent => :destroy end class Picture < ActiveRecord::Base belongs_to :imageable, :polymorphic => true end This relationship enables the user to associate an arbitrary number of Pictures to the page. Now if I want to provide multiple collections i would need an additional model: class PictureCollection < ActiveRecord::Base belongs_to :collectionable, :polymorphic => true has_many :pictures, :as => :imageable, :dependent => :destroy end And alter Page to reference the new model: class Page < ActiveRecord::Base has_many :picture_collections, :as => :collectionable, :dependent => :destroy end Now it would be possible for the user to add any number of image collections to the page. However this is still very static in term of the :picture_collections reference in the Page model. If I add another "component", for example :video_collections, I would need to declare another reference in page for that component type. So my question is this: Do I need to add a new reference for each component type, or is there some other way? In Actionscript/Java I would declare an interface Component and make all components implement that interface, then I could just have a single attribute :components which contains all of the dynamically associated model objects. This is Rails, and I'm sure there is a great way to achieve this, but its a tricky one to Google. Perhaps you good people have some wise suggestions.     1st solution located: \Common\Controls\Controls.sln and its project: \Common\Controls\Common.Controls\Common.Controls.csproj Description: This is a library that contains this class: public abstract class OurUserControl : UserControl { // Variables and other getters/setters common to our UserControls } 2nd solution located: \AControl\AControl.sln and its project: \AControl\AControl\AControl.csproj Description: Of the many forms/classes, it will contain this class: using Common.Controls; namespace AControl { public partial class AControl : OurUserControl { // The implementation } } A note about adding references (not sure if this is relevant): When I add references (for projects I create), using the names above: 1. I add Common.Controls.csproj to AControl.sln 2. In AControl.sln I turn off the build of Common.Controls.csproj 3. I add the reference to Common.Controls (by project) to AControl.csproj. This is the (easiest) way I know how to get Debug versions to match Debug References, and Release versions to match Release References. Now, here is where the issue lies (the 3rd solution/project that actually utilizes the UserControl): 3rd solution located: \MainProj\MainProj.sln and its project: \MainProj\MainProj\MainProj.csproj Description: Here's a sample function in one of the classes: private void TestMethod<T>() where T : Common.Controls.OurUserControl, new() { T TheObject = new T(); TheObject.OneOfTheSetters = something; TheObject.AnotherOfTheSetters = something_else; // Do stuff with the object } We might call this function like so: private void AnotherMethod() { TestMethod<AControl.AControl>(); } This builds, runs, and works. No problem. The odd thing is after I close the project/solution and re-open it, I have red squigglies everywhere. I bring up my error list and I see tons of errors (anything that deals with AControl will be noted as an error). I'll see errors such as: The type 'AControl.AControl' cannot be used as type parameter 'T' in the generic type or method 'MainProj.MainClass.TestMethod()'. There is no implicit reference conversion from 'AControl.AControl' to 'Common.Controls.OurUserControl'. or inside the actual method (the properties located in the abstract class): 'AControl.AControl' does not contain a definition for 'OneOfTheSetters' and no extension method 'OneOfTheSetters' accepting a first argument of type 'AControl.AControl' could be found (are you missing a using directive or an assembly reference?) Meanwhile, I can still build and run the project (then the red squigglies go away until I re-open the project, or close/re-open the file). It seems to me that I might be setting up the projects incorrectly. Thoughts?

One of the base entities we have in the service is a question entity, and there are custom routes defined as follows: [Route("/question")] [Route("/question/{ReviewQuestionId}", "GET,DELETE")] [Route("/question/{ReviewQuestionId}/{ReviewSectionId}", "GET")] Using POSTMAN to fire test queries (all using the OPTIONS verb), we can see that this will fire the pre-request filter: http://localhost/myservice/api/question/ But this will not: http://localhost/myservice/api/question/66 Presumably, this is because the second and third routes explicitly defined the verbs they accept, and OPTIONS isn't one of them. Is it really necessary to spell out OPTIONS in every defined route that restricts the verbs supported?

  • Properly releasing UITableViewController and UITableView directly added to a UIViewController

    I have a UIViewController (parentVC) to which I add a UITableViewController as follows (it is not pushed since the tableview only occupies about half the screen): tableVC = [[SmallTableVC alloc] initWithStyle:UITableViewStylePlain]; [self.view addSubview:tableVC.tableView]; In dealloc, I add [tableVC release]; Using instruments, I can see that the tableVC is indeed fully released when parentVC released, which is good, but I am not sure why as I thought that the UITableView of tableVC would have a retain count of 2 (1 for retention by tableVC and 1 for retention by parentVC). My intuition was that an additional [tableVC.tableView release] would be required, but adding it crashes the app. Why is tableVC released properly by the current code (if indeed it actually is)? Does a UITableViewController not retain its tableView? Thanks.

  • Using data from a dataset in styles with Mapnik

    I've setup Mapnik to connect to a PostGIS database, and display geometry. I'd like to have a column in my database called opacity, and use it as the opacity for that row of geometry when Mapnik renders it. So far, I've only found information on how to display text from the database, and how to use filters to display different styles when database values are within parameters. Nothing about how to use the values directly inside of a style or layer though - is this possible?

    Consider a grocery store scenario (I'm making this up) where you have FACT records that represent a sale transaction, where the columns of the Fact table include SaleItemFact Table ------------------ CustomerID ProductID Price DistributorID DateOfSale Etc Etc Etc Even if there are duplicates in the table when you consider ALL the keys, I would contend that a surrogate running numeric key (i.e. identity column) should be made up, e.g., TransactionNumber of type Integer. I can see someone arguing that a Fact table might not have a unique key (though I'd invent one and waste the 4 bytes, but how about a dimension table?

Starting from a position on the grid, return all of the grid coordinates that fall within a given distance. So I call something like: getCoordinates( currentPosition, distance ) And for each coordinate, starting from the initial position, add all cardinal directions, and then add the spaces around those and so forth until the distance is reached. I imagine that on a grid this would look like a diamond.

    Hey, recently I started working on a webpage that has a datagrid. I understand how to add datasources and that sort of thing, or at least I am starting to get it. But my question is about manipulating individual rows or cells. Is that only possible during the databind event handler, that is the only place I have been able to do it so far. I am sure there is a more abstract way of doing the things I want to do, but there are times where I just want to say Datagrid.add(row). I mean, if the datagrid is made up of a certain object type, can I make a new object of that type and just chuck it on the end? I am still new to this stuff, so perhaps what I want to do would defeat the purpose of this added abstraction, but figured I would ask around. Thanks for any advice, tips, or tricks people feel like sharing. Edit: for clarification I am using c#, entity framework, asp.net, and an SQL database.
