• Generic HTTP 500 Error Message On Hosted Sites (like GoDaddy)

  I decided to post this because I battled to find out how to do it and couldnt see anything on Stackoverflow about it. Often when you host with a provider like GoDaddy, they have "Custom Error Messages" set to ON. What I didnt realise was that the web.config settings dont just apply to ASP.NET, they apply to all applications on YOUR IIS site and hence will sort this problem out for Classic ASP as well (very few GoDaddy support people even know this) All you need to do is add the following to your web.config OR, for those using Classic ASP, just create a web.config file in your ROOT with this code in it. <configuration> <system.webServer> <asp scriptErrorSentToBrowser="true"/> <httpErrors errorMode="Detailed"/> </system.webServer> </configuration>

• AVG 9 (Internet Security Business Edition) and IIS 6.0

  Are any of you using AVG 9 Internet Security Business Edition along with IIS 6.0 and if so have you experienced problems? We just went from 8.5 to 9.0... Luckily I tried on only one of the servers in the web farm first to run for a week to make sure it played well with my servers. A few hours after the install all web apps were giving a "connection refused" error. Neither iisrest or restarting world wide web publishing services resolves the issue, only rebooting the machine brings the webs back up. They are all ASP.Net sites by the way (v2.5). What's interesting is if I take the machine out of the load balancer, the machine runs fine and the webs are just fine for days... as soon as i put it back in the pool it's only a few hours before its sad. The only thing I can think of right now is that the Resident Shield may be causing an issue, any thoughts?

• A Firefox extension for scan & upload document?

  Hello, Do you know such an extension that provides easy document scanning in Firefox? We are building a web site and we want visitors to be able to upload scanned documents to it. The normal procedure for that is: Scan the document via Gimp, Photoshop or some other scanning software. Save the file. Navigate to the upload web page. Find some sort of HTML input type file on that page. Browse and find the saved file. Submit the form. I want an extension or plugin that automatize that process and do everything with 1 click - scan the document with some default settings (for example "grayscale, 300 dpi") creates temporary file, fills the page input field and deletes the temporary file after upload. I tried lots of googling but the term scan in combination with everything web-related gives zillions of virus, malware and port scanners...

• Is there a Firefox or Chrome plugin, or a standalone program, for monitoring site usage and search queries?

  I'm running some research on how people search the web for specific types of information. I'd like to be able to set them up with a laptop and browser and then record a history of what they search for and what sites they visit. A Firefox or Chrome plugin would be ideal, but a standalone program is fine too. It doesn't need to be free, just quick and reliable. It doesn't need to be a general PC monitoring program (though that would be OK too) - it's only Web usage I need to track. I've found a few on the Web but am not sure which ones to trust. Your recommendations would be much appreciated.

• Automatically Login & Startup A Windows Program On Amazon's EC2 Service

  How can I automatically start a program on Amazon's EC2 Windows 2008 web servers? For example, if I wanted to test the "Digg effect" on a web page of mine, how could I open 100 windows 2008 servers at once, each loading one (or two?) instances of the firefox web browser? I have placed a sample batch file in the windows startup folder that echos the time it was called, but it is only started when I actually login remotely via the remote desktop protocol. • IIS7 returns 403.1 (execute access denied) for image file

  I have a web app running in IIS7 on Windows Server 2008. There is a virtual directory pointing to a shared folder "/Content/Data" on another machine (running Windows Server 2003), as well as a real directory "/Content/Images" on the local machine (web app sub folder). Accessing images in "/Content/Images" is no problem, but when an image (e.g. a JPEG file) in the "/Content/Data" is accessed by a browser, IIS returns this error: HTTP Error 403.1 - Forbidden: Execute access is denied. However, the web app can read and write to / from it. I assume IIS and ASP.NET are running under different user accounts? Does anyone have an idea on what I have to do to make it work? I have set the permissions on the shared folder to Everyone Full Control, with no luck.

  Hi, I want to run an apache web server on a machine running OS X, with the server running on a small intranet LAN with no internet connection. I've set up web sharing and the web server is now accessible from other machines on the LAN using the custom name a.local - but what I would like to do is remove the .local part if possible. Does anyone know how i would go about configuring this in OS X? I wasn't sure if it would be the apache httpd.conf file or some DNS config that would be required.

• Kerberos SSO browser integration?

  I'm installing a bunch of web apps for the office, and one of the wants would be Kerberos-managed SSO. Now, I have found some information on the matter, and I wondered, what browsers integrate Kerberos SSO? Of course I could just use the underlying web app to authenticate in case of lack of Kerberos capability, which is exactly the plan, but I'd like to know which browsers would work for that, so I can plan ahead and decide if it's even worth it to do that, which I believe it would considering that one of the web apps I'm implementing will be an ERP.

• Continuing permissions issues - ASP.net, IIS 7, Server 2008 - 0x80070005 (http 500.19) error

  I created an ASP.net MVC developed web application and I am trying to set up IIS. The Error: Http error 500.19, error code 0x80070005, Cannot read configuration file due to insufficient permissions, config file: C:\inetpub\wwwroot\BudgetManagerMain\BudgetManager\web.config If I set the AppPool to use 'administrator' i have no problems and can access the site just fine. If i set to NETWORK SERVICE (or anything else including self-created admin or non-admin user accounts), i get the above error. Things I have tried: identity for Application pool named 'test' is 'NetworkService' Set full access privs for wwwroot and all children files/folders verified effective permissions and NETWORK SERVICE has full access. • SharePoint Item Edit Form (editform.aspx) keeps closing webparts - MOSS 2007

  We have a custom list within MOSS 2007 which sporadically closes the edit forms web part, despite the fact that the web parts property 'allow close' is unticked. The only way to make the form work again is to edit the page in SharePoint Designer and untick the option of 'web part closed', this then allows the form to function but at a seemingly random interval it will close itself again. There is quite a large user base accessing the site/list at anyone time, also note this has happened once on another list on another site collection. Has anyone else experienced this issue before or can offer any advice?

• Re-Route Mail to a port other than 25

  Is there a way to route mail to another port? I have an email account attached to my laptop that I'd like to be able to send and receive mail from. Due to mobility, I'll be passing through various networks that will probably block this port. My dynamic DNS provider allows me to utilize web-forwards for MX domains; is this possible? where I can web forward to a domain:port which is managed by my DNS provider when I traverse between networks. If not, is there a way? Of course i could use web-mail or relay-forwarding from my home server, but that's not geeky enough.

• Proper umask on linux webservers?

  Most VPS have a team of 1+ user(s) that don't do anything but configure the system and work on the web site and/or database. I would assume all the team members would be a group like "developers" so they could all work on files in the web root as needed. With this in mind, would umask 007 be a much better setting than the default of 022? After all, there shouldn't be any "other/world" users since this machines primary purpose is to serve web pages. All the developers have access and there aren't any "guests" logging in...

• systemd initiated uwsgi process shuts down after a while

However, it inexplicably shuts down after being idle for 5 minutes. If I start this process manually in bash console by executing, as web user:- source ~/.bash_profile workon myproject uwsgi --ini /var/www/prod/myproject/releases/current/myproject/uwsgi_prod.ini my process does not die after being idle. What could the problem be?

  After installing Visual Studio 2012 and opening my solution I get a series of errors in this form: The Web Application Project Foo is configured to use IIS. Unable to access the IIS metabase. You do not have sufficient privilege to access IIS web sites on your machine. I get this for each of our web applications. Things I have tried: Running Visual Studio as Administrator Running aspnet_regiis.exe -ga MyUserName Running aspnet_regiis.exe -i These seem to be common solutions for this problem but I have not had any success with them. Is there anything else I can try to do?

  Hello, guys! We have here to web servers behind a router - one IIS and one Tomcat (on different machines / IP addresses). The domain is pointing to out external IP, which is forwarded to IIS (internal IP 192.168.1.10 for example). I'm trying to do the following: when [www.]ourdomain.com is entered the default web site on IIS have to be loaded (this part is ok), but when test.ourdomain.com is entered I want to redirect this request to another web server (192.168.1.11 for example). I created a site "test" on IIS and it is displayed when test.ourdomain.com is entered. Then I tried to redirect it with following rule: Requested URL matches the pattern: * (using wildcards) Condition: {HTTP_HOST} matches test.ourdomain.com Action type: Rewrite Rewrite URL: http://192.168.1.11/{R:0} but when I try to load test.ourdomain.com now I get IIS's error 404 page. Obviously I'm wrong :-) How can I do such a redirect?

• IIS requesting certificates even though set to ignore

  I have a web site in IIS 6 with directory security set to Require secure channel (SSL) and Require 128-bit encryption. Also, the Client certificates setting is set to "Ignore client certificates". When I hit https://servername/resource in Internet Explorer and Chrome , I am prompted for a certificate. I can cancel the prompt, and the resource will load, but I don't want to see this prompt at all. I looked at the virtual directories and resources within the web site, and they all have the ignore client certificates setting on. Could there be another setting, perhaps in the metbase, that is overriding the web site's directory security settings?

• Binding MySQL to run from the public or private LAN IP address - which one is faster

  So we have 2 servers all running at the same web host. We have bind MySQL to listen on the public ip-address of the database server and the web server connects to it from the public ip. Both servers run on the same private network. Currently, the DB connect method from our php script takes about 3ms to connect to the MySQL database server host. • Network wide rule to forwared IP address

  Hi, we have a virtual machine which hosts a web based bug tracker in our network which is reached internally via e.g. 192.168.1.5:9800. From the outside we made a port forwarding in our firewall so that the web site can be reached via e.g. 72.10.10.10:9800. Now that works fine but the problem is that we got different IP addresses to reach the same service depending if we are in the office or at home and when the service sends out an email the link doesn't always work :) So we are looking for a solution to fix it. One could be to make a rule in out firewall that all communication to 72.10.10.10:9800 is forwarded to 192.168.1.5:9800... If that's possible that is considering it's an IP address + a port. The reason we used a port is because we only got one static public IP address but multiple virtual web appliances. • IIS 7.5 default permission - is restriction needed?

  I am using IIS 7.5 and I do not need to explicitly specify permissions for my ISAPI application to execute. Additionally, the application can create subdirectories, create and delete files without me specifying permissions. Since I am using the default permissions, checked to see if web.config was safe from prying eyes over the web, and it can’t be read which is good. My app also creates some .log and .ini files which are also not viewable over the web. I did notice that .txt files are viewable. I really don’t know how default permissions allow my app to do so much. Is this safe or do I need to lock down? To be honest, I don’t know what accounts to restrict. App details: My ISAPI has an ‘allowed’ entry in ISAPI and CGI Restrictions Folder and subfolders containing my application has ‘default’ permissions set. Application pool is using ‘classic’ pipeline mode and no managed code. Pass-through authentication in use. Thank you for your time

  for a project there will be me and one more programmer to develop a web service. i wonder how the development environment should be like. cause we need central storage (documents, pictures, business materials etc), file version handling, lamp (testing the web service) etc. i have never set up an environment for this before and want to have suggestions from experienced people which tools to use for effective collaboration. what crossed my mind: seperate applications: - google wave (for communication forth and back, setting up guide lines, other information) - team viewer (desktop sharing) - skype (calling) vps (ubuntu server): - svn (version tracking) - ftp (central storage) - lamp (testing the web service) - ssh (managing the vps) is this an appropriate programming environment? and regarding the vps, is it best practice to use ONE vps for all tasks listed up there? all suggestions and feedbacks are welcome!

• Getting HAPROXY to redirect http to https in users browser session

  We are currently using a Internet cloud provider to host our SaaS platform. The platform consists of a Firewall - Cloud Provider SLB - - Apache Web Server - HAPROXY SLB - Liferay Platform We have had to use HAPROXY because of an issue with the cloud providers SLB that meant we were unable to use it for load balancing the Liferay platform applications. I have implemented HAPROXY in our secure tier and that seems to do the trick of load balancing the requests quite adequately. However during testing we encountered a functional issue whereby selecting a sub-menu from the web portal resulted in the application hanging, using an http analyser we saw that the request being passed back to the users browser was in http, from discussing this with the software vendor it transpires that the Liferay application has some hard-coded http links, and that other customers have worked around this by using physical NLB's such as F5 and redirecting the http traffic to https.   Hi, I'm attempting to investigate the root cause of the following error which occurs each time a users call an Oracle 10g Forms applet: FRM-92102: A network error has occurred. The Forms Client has attempted to reestablish its connection to the Server 1 time(s) without success. Please check the network connection and try again later. Details... Java Exception: java.io.IOException: Connection failure with 503 This error remained after restarting all my system components: HTTP_Server, OC4J_BI_Forms, Web Cache, Reports Server, etc. The only way to clear this issue was to restart the server entirely. During the downtime, web pages were rendered with the PL/SQL cartridge and being served, so it appears as though this was isolated to forms. Does anybody know which log files may provide clues here? Any help would be much appreciated :) Update: If somebody can provide me with a way or reference to increase the capacity of my web server to minimize these errors, I will accept this as the solution.
