• Requiring library consumers reference additional assembly when using certain types

  I have library code that uses ICSharpCode.SharpZipLib under the hood to make it easy to use ZIP files as data sources when running integration tests. As it stands, if I reference my library from another project, the other project will compile just fine, but when it accesses the code that uses SharpZipLib, I get an exception for it not finding the zip library: failed: System.IO.FileNotFoundException : Could not load file or assembly 'ICSharpCode.SharpZipLib, Version=0.85.5.452, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=1b03e6acf1164f73' or one of its dependencies. The system cannot find the file specified. If the types in my library derived from a class in SharpZipLib, it'd generate a compile error CS0012. What other ways are there for triggering a CS0012, so that using code that requires SharpZipLib (but doesn't clearly indicate it) would cause consumer code to fail compilation? I've had similar problems in the past when I've used libraries like DeftTech.DuckTyping under the hood. I'd add my library code to a new project, start working, compile, run, and then suddenly hit an edge case that I'd used duck typing to get around and get a runtime error. What I'd most like is to have the same behavior as if I'd derived from a type in the 3rd-party library, so that a reference to my derived type generates a CS0012: The type 'type' is defined in an assembly that is not referenced. You must add a reference to assembly 'assembly'.

• ETL , Esper or Drools?

  Hello, The question environment relates to JavaEE, Spring I am developing a system which can start and stop arbitrary TCP (or other) listeners for incoming messages. There could be a need to authenticate these messages. These messages need to be parsed and stored in some other entities. These entities model which fields they store. So for example if I have property1 that can have two text fields FillLevel1 and FillLevel2, I could receive messages on TCP which have both fill levels specified in text as F1=100;F2=90 Later I could add another filed say FillLevel3 when I start receiving messages F1=xx;F2=xx;F3=xx. But this is a conscious decision on the part of system modeler. My question is what do you think is better to use for parsing and storing the message. ETL (using Pantaho, which is used in other system) where you store the raw message and use task executor to consume them one by one and store the transformed messages as per your rules. One could use Espr or Drools to do the same thing , storing rules and executing them with timer, but I am not sure how dynamic you could get with making rules (they have to be made by end user in a running system and preferably in most user friendly way, ie no scripts or code, only GUI) The end user should be capable of changing the parse rules. It is also possible that end user might want to change the archived data as well (for example in the above example if a new value of FillLevel is added, one would like to put a FillLevel=-99 in the previous values to make the data consistent). Please ask for explanations, I have the feeling that I need to revise this question a bit. Thanks

When attempting redirect from HTTP to HTTPS (this happens when we access constroller secured by the usual RequireSSL attribute implementation) we get blank page with "Bad Request" message. • Three Checkboxes, One must be selected to enable submit button, needs Jquery?

  I have between 1-three checkboxes and by default they are all disabled. In order for the submit button to be active ove checkbox minumum must be selected. It generates a huge amount of logs in the catalina.out folder, most of these are generated while using the application, but are not generated by the application.   Using TDom, I would like to cycle through a list of objects in the following format: <object> <type>Hardware</type> <name>System Name</name> <description>Basic Description of System.</description> <attributes> <vendor>Dell</vendor> <contract>MM/DD/YY</contract> <supportExpiration>MM/DD/YY</supportExpiration> <location>Building 123</location> <serial>xxx-xxx-xxxx</serial> <mac>some-mac-address</mac> </attributes> </object> <object> <type>Software</type> <name>Second Object</name> ... Then I use TDom to make a list of objects: set dom [dom parse $xml] set doc [$dom documentElement] set nodeList [$doc selectNodes /systems/object] So far I've done this to (theoretically) select every "Object" node from the list. How can I loop through them? Is it just: foreach node $nodeList { For each object, I need to retrieve the association of each attribute. From the example, I need to remember that the "name" is "System Name", "vendor" is "Dell", etc. I'm new to TCL but in other languages I would use an object or an associative list to store these. Is this possible? Can you show me an example of the syntax to select an attribute in this manner?

• best practice for boolean REST results

  I have a resource /system/resource And I wish to ask the system a boolean question about the resource that can't be answered by processing on the client (i.e I can't just GET the resource and look through the actual resource data - it requires some processing on the backend using data not available to the client). eg /system/resource/related/otherresourcename I want this is either return true or false. Does anyone have any best practice examples for this type of interaction? Possibilities that come to my mind: use of HTTP status code, no returned body (smells wrong) return plain text string (True, False, 1, 0) - Not sure what string values are appropriate to use, and furthermore this seems to be ignoring the Accept media type and always returning plain text come up with a boolean object for each of my support media types and return the appropriate type (a JSON document with a single boolean result, an XML document with a single boolean field). However this seems unwieldy. I don't particularly want to get into a long discussion about the true meaning of a RESTful system etc - I have used the word REST in the title because it best expresses the general flavour of system I am designing (even if perhaps I am tending more towards RPC over the web rather than true REST). However, if someone has some thoughts on how a true RESTful system avoids this problem entirely I would be happy to hear them.

• Can't disable method parenthesis auto-complete in Eclipse

  I'm trying to disable the automatic closing of brackets in Eclipse, and while I've mostly succeeded, I can't stop the editor from inserting a closing parenthesis for a method call. The result is that when I type: myBool.equals(true); it inserts a closing parenthesis as soon as I type the opening parenthesis, and what I actually get is: myBool.equals(true);) I've disabled all of the auto-complete options in the Preferences - Java - Editor - Typing menu, as well as Preferences - Java - Editor - Content Assist - Fill method arguments and show guessed arguments. I also disabled the smart insert mode option under the Edit menu. Is there another option somewhere else I need to use to stop Eclipse from doing this? This is with Eclipse 3.5.2 (Build ID M20100211-1343) in case it matters. Edited to add: I should also mention that this only happens if I wait for the "intellisense" pop-up with suggested method names to appear after I type the period. If I just continuously type the code without waiting for the suggestion box to appear, the closing parenthesis doesn't get inserted.

  Hello, I have the following situation in code, which I suspect may be a bit dodgey: I have a class: abstract class DataAccessBase<T> : IDataAccess where T : AnotherAbstractClass This class DataAccessBase also has a static factory method which creates instances of derived classes of itself using an enum value in a which statement to decide which derived type to create: static IDataAccess CreateInstance(TypeToCreateEnum) Now, the types derived from DataAccessBase<T> are themselves NOT generic, they specify a type for T: class PoLcZoneData : DataAccessBase<PoLcZone> // PoLcZone is derived from AnotherAbstractClass So far I am not sure if this is pushing the limits of good use of generics, but what I am really concerned about is how to access the static CreateInstance() method in the first place: The way I am doing this at the moment is to simply pass any type T where T : AnotherAbstractClass. In particular I am passing AnotherAbstractClass itself. This allows compilation just fine, but it does seem to me that passing any type to a generic class just to get at the statics is a bit dodgey. I have actually simplified the situation somewhat as DataAccessBase<T> is the lower level in the inheritance chain, but the static factory methods exists in a middle tier with classes such as PoLcZoneData being the most derived on the only level that is not generic. What are peoples thoughts on this arrangement?

  The Scenario I have written a Silverlight 3 Application that uses an SQL Server database. I'm moving the application onto the Cloud (Azure Platform). In order to do this I have had to setup my database on SQL Azure. I am using the ADO.Net Entity Framework to model my database. I have got the application running on the cloud, but I cannot get it to connect to the database.   Hi All, Im trying to write an extension method that I can use to copy values from one object property to another object of a different type, as long as the property names and types match exactly. I read here that GetType() should unbox the Nullable<T> so it returns T but if I call that on PropertyInfo.PropertyType I get ReflectedMemberInfo and not the type T im looking for. I think im missing something obvious here, so I thought I would throw it open to SO to get some advice. Anyone have any ideas? Thanks, Jamee

  I had very errorsome Exception handling with if-clauses. An exception occurs if not found path. An exception returns the function again. The function is recursive. • How do I programmatically insert rows into a Silverlight DataGrid without binding?

  I am using a common Silverlight DataGrid to display results from a search. The "schema" of the search can vary from query to query. To accommodate this, I am trying to dynamically populate the DataGrid. I can set explicitly set the columns, but I am having trouble setting the ItemSource. All of the MSDN examples set the ItemSource to a collection with a strong type (e.g. a Custom type with public properties matching the schema). The DataGrid then uses reflection to scour the strong type for public properties that will match the columns. Since my search results are dynamic, I cannot create a strong type to represent what comes back. Can I not just give the DataGrid an arbitrary list of objects so long as the number of objects in each list matches the number of columns? Anyone know if this is possible? I would like to do something similar to this: List<List<object>> myResults = <voodoo that populates the result list> myDataGrid.ItemsSource = myResults;

  Hello everybody. We are developing a library in C# that communicates with the serial port. We have a function that is given to a delegate. The problem is that we want it to be run in a different thread. • How to add XmlInclude attribute dynamically

  I have the following classes [XmlRoot] public class AList { public List<B> ListOfBs {get; set;} } public class B { public string BaseProperty {get; set;} } public class C : B { public string SomeProperty {get; set;} } public class Main { public static void Main(string[] args) { var aList = new AList(); aList.ListOfBs = new List<B>(); var c = new C { BaseProperty = "Base", SomeProperty = "Some" }; aList.ListOfBs.Add(c); var type = typeof (AList); var serializer = new XmlSerializer(type); TextWriter w = new StringWriter(); serializer.Serialize(w, aList); } } Now when I try to run the code I got an InvalidOperationException at last line saying that The type XmlTest.C was not expected. Use the XmlInclude or SoapInclude attribute to specify types that are not known statically. I know that adding a [XmlInclude(typeof(C))] attribute with [XmlRoot] would solve the problem. But I want to achieve it dynamically. Because in my project class C is not known prior to loading. Class C is being loaded as a plugin, so it is not possible for me to add XmlInclude attribute there. I tried also with TypeDescriptor.AddAttributes(typeof(AList), new[] { new XmlIncludeAttribute(c.GetType()) }); before var type = typeof (AList); but no use. It is still giving the same exception. Does any one have any idea on how to achieve it?
