• FreeNas on Dell Powervault 745N: 2TB Limit?

  I want to purchase 2 x 2TB drives, and install FreeNas on my Dell Powervault 745N. People on the internets seem to be having trouble with the MD3000 firmware, and I want to make sure I can solve any issues before buying the drives. Before I invest, I have 3 questions : Is there a partition size limit determined by the RAID controller? That is, could I have a striped 4TB partition? The spec sheets make me wonder if the RAID controller needs all 4 drives in order to work. Is there any reason this will have to run in RAID5? If I buy 4 matching drives, would the controller support a RAID6 configuration? I'm basically new to all this RAID stuff - sorry for any noob questions.

• Cannot delete unknown (orphaned) vm from ESX host inventory

  Hi, I'm having problems delete an unknown (orphaned) VM from an ESX 3.5 host. When I attempt to right click the VM I get the following error "Object reference not set to an instance of an object". Steps taken so far. 1. Removed the host from the cluster 2. Removed the host from vCenter 3. Rebooted the host 4. Edited the file vmInventory.xml & cleared the file 5. Restarted services - mgmt-vmware restart Can anyone think of anything else that I can do to resolve this issue? Thanks guys.

  i'm reading a few variables from a file using while read a b c; do (something) done < filename is there an elegant way to skip a variable (read in an empty value), i.e. if I want a=1 b= c=3, what should I write in the file? Right now i'm putting 1 "" 3 and then use b=$(echo $b | tr -d \" ) but this is pretty cumbersome, IMHO any ideas?

• Installing gitosis and closed port?

  I'm trying to install gitosis on a Server (hosted by OVH and running Ubuntu server 11.04). I've done it a few times and never had any problems. But this time I have something very wired when I simply try to clone gitosis. [root@ovks-1:~/]#git clone git://eagain.net/gitosis.git Cloning into gitosis... eagain.net[0: 208.78.102.120]: errno=Connection refused fatal: unable to connect a socket (Connection refused) zsh: exit 128 git clone git://eagain.net/gitosis.git Based on my searches it looks like the port 9418 is closed. But I don't understand, a server by definition shouldn't have any closed port and I can't find a way to see if they are. So how can I check is a port is open and how can I open it if closed? • mod perl in apache 2.2 not parsing perl scripts

  Hi, I've set up a fresh Apache 2.2.15 server on windows server 2008 R2 with mod_perl (mod perl v2.0.4 / perl v5.10.1). Mod_perl and Perl 5.10 has been installed and loaded without problems. However, despite my configuration, the mod_perl module is failing to recognize and execute my .pl file, instead opting to print out the perl source instead. What did I do wrong, and how do I make perl process my pl script instead of sending it to the client? • OCS 2007: Issues with /LiveServer/MCUFactory

  I'm not really an Office Communications Server expert, but just trying to resolve some seemingly minor issues with a new install... The following error is occurring in the OCS event log, and when I try to visit https://servername:444/LiveServer/MCUFactory in Internet Explorer to test the address, I just get a "page cannot be displayed" error. I can telnet to port 444 on the server and verify that the port is open and listening. Any ideas?   I have a small pile of Sun V20z computers. I was trying to update the SP and BIOS firmwares in order to bring them all up to the same standard -- mostly to get the updated (ie actually useful) SP functionality, and figured that I would just do the BIOS while I was at it. For three of the four computers, it worked perfectly. However after the BIOS update, the fourth system won't boot.   Having experienced IIS for many years I've hit this error various times in the past, and understand it, the gist being IIS is attempting to setup so many file change notifications over a UNC share that it is hitting a specified limit of active commands. However, whilst I understand this is a registry change on the endpoints, in our internal network we're starting to hit this when running certain domains that have large content (and the content is then stored out of source control and instead on a dumb network store). Given this is a testing environment and rather than changing registry settings (which may not even work for client (dev) machines that run Vista IIS), I'd like to stop IIS setting up all these file change notifications. Is this possible to do on a per site basis? additionally the configuration can't be in the web.config, if this means having to disable FCN's for the entire IIS server this would be preferred.   Hi everyone, I want to upgrade my php version running on MAMP to 5.3. I've copied the ./configure statement from phpinfo() and downloaded the 5.3 branch source i wish to compile. However, when i try to compile it i get an error about a missing config_vars.mk file from apxs. How can i solve this issue if i do not have the config_vars.mk? can one be deprecated? can i copy the one from the stock apache that comes installed on OS X (SL)? What will happen if i remove --with-apxs from the configure line? Thanks in advance for any help. It is greatly appreciated. Ken.

  I am attempting to do an upgrade in my org from exchange 2007 to exchange 2010. I moved all the mailboxes and made sure my certificates were setup in exchange 2010. I then changed my ip forwarding rules to forward mail to my exchange 2010 box. I can receive email. I then powered off my exchange 2007 server. However now when I open my exchange 2010 console it is complaing of not being able to talk to the Information Store service on my exchange 2007 server. What is up? do I have to tell exchange somewhere "who" is the new exchange server? I'm confused. I hate it when software does it automatically. I want to force it to do something.

• IIS 7.5, Multiple Application Pools, and URL Rewriting (403.18 -- Forbidden)

  Is there any way to configure IIS 7.5 to perform URL rewrites to different application pools on the same site without running into a 403.18 error? We're using Helicon ISAPI Rewrite 3 on IIS 6 and it's working like a charm. The root-level "application" is running under it's own application pool, and on IIS 6 we have no problems doing URL rewrites from that application pool to any one of the other four application pools. But when I copy the same server configuration information over to IIS 7.5 the URL rewrites to any of the other application pools fail with a "403.18 -- Forbidden" error. The weird bit is that the IIS 6 is not (at least as far as I can tell, by looking at the site Service configuration dialog) running under IIS 5 emulation mode, so somehow the rewrites aren't throwing 403.18 errors. So something must be different... but whatever it is, I sure haven't been able to figure it out. Btw, we're not married to Helicon ISAPI Rewrite. If there's another way to preserve our current rewrite configuration rules using another module or method I'd be more than happy to use it.

• Virtual SMTP not sending mails

  Hi I have been googling for the better part of the last two hours without finding any conclusion. My mails are not being sent from the production webserver. If I stop/start the Virtual SMTP I get this in the event log: No usable TLS server certificate for SMTP virtual server instance '1' could be found. TLS will be disabled for this virtual-server. We recently updated the webapplication running and I assume something went amiss during that. Googling the message straight up gave me a list that just as well could have been in greek. I found a security certificate on the server, installing that gave no change. I basicly played russian roulette with the certificate file (.cer), though I was somewhat certain it would not have a negative effect. (Russian roulette with a 6 chamber gun and 2 bullets.) I found a .pfx in our local documentation folder, though I'm far from certain that to have a positive effect. (6 chambers and 5 bullets). I found a site describing how the Virtual SMTP - Properties - Access - should have a button saying Certificates. I have a text saying "Did not find any TLS certificates" and a grayed out tick box saying "Require TLS certificate". I found the TLS being SSL ver3.1+ (3.1-3.3). So question goes - How do I enable the SMTP to once again send emails, like before.

There are several servers (less than 20) and they are mostly CentOS5, but there are some RHEL4 and Solaris9 Sparc. I believe Tripwire, Inc. is the leader in this area, but I am looking for additional options, both commercial and FOSS. Please include your experience reasons for using the software you recommend.

• Webmin and/or port 10000 not working

  I've recently installed Webmin on a Ubuntu server but I can't get it to work. I asked a recent question about saving iptables but it turns out you don't need to "save" iptables changes. Anyway, I still can't get Webmin working after opening the port up: iptables -A INPUT -p tcp -m tcp --dport 10000 -j ACCEPT It seems that either the command is not opening up port 10000, or there is a separate problem with Webmin. If I run iptables -L I see lines like the following, but no port 10000: ACCEPT tcp -- anywhere anywhere tcp dpt:5555 state NEW ACCEPT tcp -- anywhere anywhere tcp dpt:8002 state NEW ACCEPT tcp -- anywhere anywhere tcp dpt:9001 state NEW However, there is a line: ACCEPT tcp -- anywhere anywhere tcp dpt:webmin Any ideas why Webmin is not working? The IP address works fine and we can view web sites on the server, but https://[ip]:10000/ (or http) doesn't work.

• Task Scheduler not running .bat or .vbs successfully

  Hi there, got this weird problem, which will hopefully have an obvious solution for some enlightened soul: We have several daily tasks we run via a .vbs script on our server (through the Task Scheduler), and for months it has been fine, but recently we've hit a problem. The .vbs script stopped successfully executing... but oddly it worked fine when ran manually! The error given in these circumstances was always "Timeout". We thought we try a little creative thinking, and run the .vbs another way: Via a .bat file. Again we hit weird issues, but with a little more debugging information, this time around. The .bat file is nothing more than... CScript "C:\location\script.vbs" > Log.txt But the Task Scheduler fails with the following error: 0x1: An incorrect function was called or an unknown function was called. The log.txt file says: CScript Error: Initialization of the Windows Script Host failed. (Not enough storage is available to process this command. ) But get this: The .bat file executes perfectly (vbs script and all) if it's executed with a double click! There's only a problem when it's run by Task Scheduler. What the hell? We're running Windows Server 2008 R2 (x64) and yes, the Task Sheduler's results are the same whether the user is logged in or not. Also, the user that can run the scripts successfully manually, is also the same user that runs the scripts in Task Scheduler. Thanks for any help for this weird problem!

  Hi, I need to configure SQL Server aliases on a public-facing production server. To do that, I need to install SQL Server Configuration Manager. I was not able to find a standalone installer for that, so I am having to install SQL Server 2005 Client Components. This approach is not ideal as we don't want to have SSMS on an public-facing production server.
