• How do I check if a swf file loaded correctly since put_Movie always returns S_OK?

  I am using the latest flash player and have a swf file served locally from my dev machine. In one container test app I am able to play the swf and make calls to it, but in my "Real" application the same code path results in com errors (basically it looks like the swf isn;' loading properly) Additionally this is made more challenging because no matter what nonsense I put in the call to put_Movie() the return is ALWAYS S_OK. This is confusing. How am I supposed to determine if the swf file loaded and is working? As a follow-on, what would cause a swf file (the same one) not to load in a different app? The code paths are the same (from what I can tell). Obviousl something is going on, but I am not sure what. So, I guess 2 questions How to know when swf file doesn't load right Why might it fail in a different container application? I am using ATL in Visual studio 2008, latest flash, MS Vista Thanks

• Installing a new SQL Server instance fails

  I've previously in my setup installed SQL Server Express 2005. Now I've switched to SQL Server Express 2008. I updated the command line parameters to those documented for the latter. If the comp already has SQL Server Express 2008 installed, my installer should create a new instance. The command line parameters are as follows: /ACTION=Install /FEATURES=SQLEngine /QS /INSTANCENAME=ABCD /SECURITYMODE=SQL /SAPWD=CunningPassword The requested instance name does not exist on the target machine. This will end in an error -2068643838. The logs show the following error: "No features were installed during the setup execution. The requested features may already be installed." If I remove the /QS parameter and try to install interactively, I'll get as far as the Feature Selection page. The UI shows three options, Instance Features, Shared Features and Redistributable Features. Whatever I select, clicking Next results in the same error (There are validation errors on this page). • Troubles configuring SSL for an Apache host

  I configured it on Friday night and all worked well. Today for some reason it stopped working and I can't figure out why. When you goto the secure page it's acting like I have a self-signed certificate and I don't. It's got to be something minor but I can't seem to see it. It's an updated Centos/Apache VM. I have worn Google out.

  I'm making a simple iframe-based facebook app. I have the following code to size my iframe: FB_RequireFeatures(["Connect"], function(){ FB.XdComm.Server.init('/xd_receiver.htm'); FB.CanvasClient.startTimerToSizeToContent(); FB.CanvasClient.syncUrl(); }); I want to add a link that will display a popup which will allow the user to post an app-defined image/link to the user's wall. To get things working initially, I tried just using the following code on a click event: FB.Connect.streamPublish(''); However, nothing happens. I've tried adding: FB.init(<?=API_KEY?>, '/xd_receiver.htm'); both inside the FB_RequireFeatures function, before it, after it... no luck. Nothing happens. No errors are thrown. Nothing. Any ideas?

  We have a tool that generates some code (.cs) files that are used to build the project. The tool is run during the pre-build step, but the files are updated in the solution only after the build, which means the build needs to be performed twice to clear the errors after a change to the input. Example: Modify Tool Input File Run Build Tool Runs and changes source file Build Fails Run Build Tool Runs and changes source file (but it doesn's actually change, because the input remains the same) Build Succeeds Any ideas how we can do away with the double build, and still let our tool be run from VS? • How to write a linter?

  In my day job I, and others on my team write a lot of hardware models in Verilog-AMS, a language supported primarily by commercial vendors and a few opensource simulator projects. One thing that would make supporting each others code more helpful would be a LINTER that would check our code for common problems and assist with enforcing a shared code formatting style. I of course want to be able to add my own rules and, after I prove their utility to myself, promote them to the rest of the team.. I don't mind doing the work that has to be done, but of course also want to leverage the work of other existing projects. Does having the allowed language syntax in a yacc or bison format give me a leg up? or should I just suck each language statement into a perl string, and use pattern matching to find the things I don't like? (most syntax and compilation errors are easily caught by the commercial tools.. but we have some of our own extentions.)

• Error calling webservice using JSONP + jquery with IE on remote domain

  I have a .Net webservice on my app server that returns data formatted as JSONP. I have an HTML test client on that server which works fine using IE, Firefox, & Chrome. If I copy the same HTML to my workstation or deploy to my webserver it works with Firefox & Chrome but in IE I'm getting two javascript errors.   I was trying to write a validation for Rails to ensure that a price entered on a form was greater than zero. It works…sort of. The problem is that when I run it, val is turned into an integer, so it thinks that .99 is less than .1. When i echo the $sql, all the values are set properly. and when i ech the $result i get the value 1. can someone please tell me what am i doing wrong here??

• iframe as scriptaculous droppable

  I have a sortable list and an iframe on the same page. What I'm trying to do is define the <iframe> as a Droppable. Everything works with out errors but when I try to drag a sortable item across the Iframe it stops at the edge. ( if I move it slowly it seems works in firefox) The Iframe is set to DesignMode ="on" so covering it with a transparent element to act as the droppable does not seem applicable here. Anyone know of any other solutions or a better way to handle this?

I read somewhere that threads using native thread module in 2.6 dont make use of multiple cores. is that true? • C++ linking issue on Visual Studio 2008 when crosslinking different projects on same solution

  I'm using Google Test Framework to set some unit tests. I have got three projects in my solution: FN (my project) FN_test (my tests) gtest (Google Test Framework) I set FN_test to have FN and gtest as references (dependencies), and then I think I'm ready to set up my tests (I've already set everyone to /MTd (not doing this was leading me to linking errors before)). Particularly, I define a class called Embark in FN I would like to test using FN_test. So far, so good. Thus I write a classe called EmbarkTest using googletest, declare a member Embark* and write inside the constructor: EmbarkTest() { e = new Embark(900,2010); } Then , F7 pressed, I get the following: 1>FN_test.obj : error LNK2019: unresolved external symbol "public: __thiscall Embark::Embark(int,int)" (??0Embark@@QAE@HH@Z) referenced in function "protected: __thiscall EmbarkTest::EmbarkTest(void)" (??0EmbarkTest@@IAE@XZ) 1>D:\Users\lg\Product\code\FN\Debug\FN_test.exe : fatal error LNK1120: 1 unresolved externals Does someone know what have I done wrong and/or what can I do to settle this?

• recaptcha asp.net always returns invalid

  The reCaptcha example for ASP.NET does not seem to work. I followed the instructions but it always returns false, "The verification words are incorrect.". The entries are good. I'm using localhost as the site but am not getting any public/private key errors which I did get when adding a bad key (as a test). I've seen this error reported a lot but no good answers. Some suggest to call the validate on the control before checking to see if it is valid but this did not work for me.

• Redmon's Run As User not loading user's enviroment variables

  I'm attempting to use Redmon http://www.winimage.com/misc/redmon/ to send print jobs to a custom C# application. Redmon "runs" (actually the Print Spooler) as SYSTEM but has an option to Run As User to allow your application to run under the user that printed the job. The problem is that it doesn't appear to load the user's environment. So calling functions like Path.GetTempPath() points to \windows\temp instead of the user's. Also when attempting to run Outlook 2007+ via MAPI calls (to add attachments) it reports form errors due to, I think, the temp folder location. Is there a way to "reload" a profile or atleast get your environment vars within the Impersonated application? The only ideas I've had so far is to rebuild the vars directly from the registry, but I want to avoid this since it's a hack around (avoiding implementation details and all that). Or making a stub program that Redmon calls which then properly Run As User with full profile the custom application. Any other items or tricks?

  Hi guys, I'm trying to install feedzirra. When i install curb on my netbeans i get following errors. Building native extensions. This could take a while... ERROR: Error installing curb-0.7.6.gem: ERROR: Failed to build gem native extension. When I issue statement -- select * from [linked server name].[database name].[dbo].[table name], error will be returned, Linked server "ZS" The OLE DB access interface "SQLNCLI10" returned "NON-CLUSTERED and NOT INTEGRATED "Index" ix_foo_basic_info_nf ", which is incorrect bookmark ordinal 0. When I issue statement -- select * from openquery([linked server name],'select * from [table name]'), there will be no errors, any ideas what is wrong? thanks in advance, George

• Rails: Cannot add :precision or :scale options with change_column in a migration?

  This seems to have been asked before: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/1402547/rails-decimal-precision-and-scale But when running a change_column migration for :precision or :scale they don't actually affect the schema or database, but db:migrate runs without errors. My migration file looks like this: class ChangePrecisionAndScaleOfPaybackPeriodInTags < ActiveRecord::Migration def self.up change_column :tags, :payback_period, :decimal, { :scale => 3, :precision => 10 } end def self.down change_column :tags, :payback_period, :decimal end end But my schema (and the data) remains as: t.decimal "rate" # previous column t.decimal "payback_period" t.string "component_type" # next column Anybody else have this issue? • Rails session cookie not getting set

  I have a rails app that is a CMS that uses dynamic subdomains for each site. For some reason when I deployed to production the session cookie is not getting set. I'm thinking this is leading to the "Invalid Authenticity Token" errors that are being thrown everywhere. I have my production.rb setup so that I can share sessions across subdomains. • Can a program that controls IE detect if a HTTP 30x code is encountered?

  I am trying to control an InternetExplorer.Application via the COM interface, using Perl, Win32::OLE, and information from MSDN. My goal is to get as good an idea as possible about what IE is doing. (Related to this question.) IE uses events to notify my program when it has finished various stages of processing a certain URL (NavigateComplete2, DownloadComplete DocumentComplete). It can also tell my program about various errors it encounters (NavigateError2). I consider that part of my problem solved well enough. I would also like to be able to reliably detect if IE is redirected by the server. Primarily, I'm concerned about HTTP 30x status codes. Is there a way to do this, either with COM automation or via another route?

• how to link with static mySQL C library with Visual Studio 2008?

  Hi, My project is running fine, but its requirement for some DLLs means it cannot be simply dragged and dropped by the end user. The DLLs are not loaded when put side by side with my executable, because my executable is not an application, and its location is not in the few locations where Windows looks for DLL. I already asked a question about how to make their loading happen. None of the suggestions worked (see the question at http://stackoverflow.com/questions/2637499/how-can-a-win32-app-plugin-load-its-dll-in-its-own-directory) So I am now exploring another way: get rid of the DLLs altogether, and link with static versions of them. This is failing for the last of those DLLs. So I am at this point where all but one of the libraries are statically linked, and everything is fine. The last library is the standard C library for mySQL, aka Connector/C. The problem I have may or may not be related with that origin. Whenever I switched to the static library in the linker additional dependency, I get the following errors (log at the end): 1- about 40 duplicate symbols (e.g. _toupper) mutually between LIBCMT.lib and MSVCRT.lib. Interestingly, I can't control the inclusion of these two libraries: they are from Visual Studio and automatically included. So why are these symbol duplicate when I include mySQL's static lib, but not its DLL? Searching C:\Program Files\Microsoft Visual Studio 9.0\VC\lib\MSVCRT.lib: Searching C:\Program Files\Microsoft Visual Studio 9.0\VC\lib\OLDNAMES.lib: Searching C:\Program Files\Microsoft Visual Studio 9.0\VC\lib\msvcprt.lib: Searching C:\Program Files\Microsoft Visual Studio 9.0\VC\lib\LIBCMT.lib: LIBCMT.lib(setlocal.obj) : error LNK2005: _setlocale already defined in MSVCRT.lib(MSVCR90.dll) Searching C:\Program Files\Microsoft Visual Studio 9.0\VC\lib\MSVCRT.lib: MSVCRT.lib(MSVCR90.dll) : error LNK2005: _toupper already defined in LIBCMT.lib(toupper.obj) 2- two warnings that MSVCRT and LIBCMT conflicts with use of other libs, with a suggestion to use /NODEFAULTLIB:library:. I don't understand that suggestion: what am I supposed to do and how? LINK : warning LNK4098: defaultlib 'MSVCRT' conflicts with use of other libs; use /NODEFAULTLIB:library LINK : warning LNK4098: defaultlib 'LIBCMT' conflicts with use of other libs; use /NODEFAULTLIB:library 3- an external symbol is undefined: _main. So does that mean that the static mySQL lib (but not the DLL) references a _main symbol? For the sake of it, I tried to define an empty function named _main() in my code, with no difference. LIBCMT.lib(crt0.obj) : error LNK2001: unresolved external symbol _main As mentioned in my first question, my code is a port of a fully working Mac version of the code. Its a plugin for a host application that I don't control. The port currently works, albeit with installation issues due to that lone remaining DLL. As a Mac programmer I am rather disoriented with Visual Studio and Windows which I find confusing, poorly designed and documented, with error messages that are very difficult to grasp and act upon. So I will be very grateful for any help.   I want to load a bunch of view definitions into SQL Server 2005 & 2008. I am using IF/ELSE logic to dynamically building Create or Alter statements that I then EXEC. This works fine. However, unless I get the order of the statements correct, I get errors if a view is dependent on another view that would be created in a later statement. Is there a way to turn of the valiation of the SQL statements until after they have all been entered? It seems like the worst of both worlds. SQL Server does late binding and so it won't propogate changes to tables and views, but you can't create a view without all the pieces being in place.
