    - by Gaurav
Hi, I have to detect avtivityLevel of microphone in Flex. I am using the activityLevel property of Microphone class but as I found out it always return -1 even if I have done Microphone.getMicrophone(). To detect activity level we have to set microphone.setLoopback = true; Does anybody know how to do this without using loop back as I do not want to hear my sound back just monitor the activity level Thanks

  • Is there a way to make PHP's SplHeap recalculate? (aka: add up-heap to SplHeap?)

    - by md2k7
    I am using an SplHeap to hold graph nodes of a tree with directed edges that will be traversed from the leaves to the root. For this, I precalculate the "fan-in" of nodes and put them into the heap so that I can always retrieve the node with the smallest fan-in (0) from it. After visiting a node, I reduce the fan-in of its successor by 1. Then obviously, the heap needs to be recalculated because the successor is now in the wrong place there. I have tried recoverFromCorruption(), but it doesn't do anything and keeps the heap in the wrong order (node with larger fanIn stays in front of smaller fanIn). As a workaround, I'm now creating a new heap after each visit, amounting to a full O(N*log(N)) sort each time. It should be possible, however, to make up-heap operations on the changed heap entry until it's in the right position in O(log(N)). The API for SplHeap doesn't mention an up-heap (or deletion of an arbitrary element - it could then be re-added). Can I somehow derive a class from SplHeap to do this or do I have to create a pure PHP heap from scratch? EDIT: Code example: class VoteGraph { private $nodes = array(); private function calculateFanIn() { /* ... */ } // ... private function calculateWeights() { $this->calculateFanIn(); $fnodes = new GraphNodeHeap(); // heap by fan-in ascending (leaves are first) foreach($this->nodes as $n) { // omitted: filter loops $fnodes->insert($n); } // traversal from leaves to root while($fnodes->valid()) { $node = $fnodes->extract(); // fetch a leaf from the heap $successor = $this->nodes[$node->successor]; // omitted: actual job of traversal $successor->fanIn--; // will need to fix heap (sift up successor) because of this //$fnodes->recoverFromCorruption(); // doesn't work for what I want // workaround: rebuild $fnodes from scratch $fixedHeap = new GraphNodeHeap(); foreach($fnodes as $e) $fixedHeap->insert($e); $fnodes = $fixedHeap; } } } class GraphNodeHeap extends SplHeap { public function compare($a, $b) { if($a->fanIn === $b->fanIn) return 0; else return $a->fanIn < $b->fanIn ? 1 : -1; } }

  • In asp classic: How can I make sure that a variable can be cast as an int?

    - by Tchalvak
The following function was suggested to me: ' Defines a forced casting function, which "casts" anything that it can't detect as a number to zero. Function MakeInteger(val) If IsNumeric(val) Then MakeInteger = CInt(val) Else MakeInteger = 0 End If End Function Unfortunately there appear to be some things that return true for IsNumeric() but still can't be cast as an int. Is there any better check to use?

  • iphone sdk: autorotate jumps back up the page, showing information that has already been read...

    - by jonathan
Hi, I am using - (BOOL)shouldAutorotateToInterfaceOrientation:(UIInterfaceOrientation)interfaceOrientation{ return YES; } to allow rotation, which works fine - except that the landscape view jumps backwards up the page that is being displayed. I can't figure out what I should be looking at to fix it. I just want the page to rotate where it is. Any pointers would be great. Am a noob, as is probably clear. Thanks Jonathan

  • Is it possible to renice a subprocess ?

    - by ramusus
I know about os.nice() it works perfect for parent process, but I need to do renice of my child subprocesses. I found way to do this, but it seems to be not very handy and too excessive: os.system("renice -n %d %d" % ( new_nice, suprocess.pid ) ) And it isn't return resulting nice level after renicing. Is there more clean way to renice subprocesses in python?

  • Any big difference between using contains or loop through a list?

    - by Nazgulled
Hi, Performance wise, is there really a big difference between using: ArrayList.contains(o) vs foreach|iterator LinkedList.contains(o) vs foreach|iterator HashMap.(containsKey|containsValue) vs foreach|iterator TreeMap.(containsKey|containsValue) vs foreach|iterator Of course, for the foreach|iterator loops, I'll have to explicitly compare the methods and return true or false accordingly. The object I'm comparing is an object where equals() and hashcode() are both properly overridden.

  • Drag N Drop utilizing simple cursor

    - by Cameron
I'm using CommonsGuy's drag n drop example and I am basically trying to integrate it with the Android notepad example. Drag N Drop Out of the 2 different drag n drop examples i've seen they have all used a static string array where as i'm getting a list from a database and using simple cursor adapter. So my question is how to get the results from simple cursor adapter into a string array, but still have it return the row id when the list item is clicked so I can pass it to the new activity that edits the note. Here is my code: Cursor notesCursor = mDbHelper.fetchAllNotes(); startManagingCursor(notesCursor); // Create an array to specify the fields we want to display in the list (only NAME) String[] from = new String[]{WeightsDatabase.KEY_NAME}; // and an array of the fields we want to bind those fields to (in this case just text1) int[] to = new int[]{R.id.weightrows}; // Now create a simple cursor adapter and set it to display SimpleCursorAdapter notes = new SimpleCursorAdapter(this, R.layout.weights_row, notesCursor, from, to); setListAdapter(notes); And here is the code i'm trying to work that into. public class TouchListViewDemo extends ListActivity { private static String[] items={"lorem", "ipsum", "dolor", "sit", "amet", "consectetuer", "adipiscing", "elit", "morbi", "vel", "ligula", "vitae", "arcu", "aliquet", "mollis", "etiam", "vel", "erat", "placerat", "ante", "porttitor", "sodales", "pellentesque", "augue", "purus"}; private IconicAdapter adapter=null; private ArrayList<String> array=new ArrayList<String>(Arrays.asList(items)); @Override public void onCreate(Bundle icicle) { super.onCreate(icicle); setContentView(R.layout.main); adapter=new IconicAdapter(); setListAdapter(adapter); TouchListView tlv=(TouchListView)getListView(); tlv.setDropListener(onDrop); tlv.setRemoveListener(onRemove); } private TouchListView.DropListener onDrop=new TouchListView.DropListener() { @Override public void drop(int from, int to) { String item=adapter.getItem(from); adapter.remove(item); adapter.insert(item, to); } }; private TouchListView.RemoveListener onRemove=new TouchListView.RemoveListener() { @Override public void remove(int which) { adapter.remove(adapter.getItem(which)); } }; class IconicAdapter extends ArrayAdapter<String> { IconicAdapter() { super(TouchListViewDemo.this, R.layout.row2, array); } public View getView(int position, View convertView, ViewGroup parent) { View row=convertView; if (row==null) { LayoutInflater inflater=getLayoutInflater(); row=inflater.inflate(R.layout.row2, parent, false); } TextView label=(TextView)row.findViewById(R.id.label); label.setText(array.get(position)); return(row); } } } I know i'm asking for a lot, but a point in the right direction would help quite a bit! Thanks

Not sure if its due to the script (WordPress) or host, but please can you suggest any reliable solution to retrieve the domain name with PHP? I am very thankful in advance, Regards

  • Why does every thread in my application use a different hibernate session?

    - by Ittai
Hi, I have a web-application which uses hibernate and for some reason every thread (httprequest or other threads related to queueing) uses a different session. I've implemented a HibernateSessionFactory class which looks like this: public class HibernateSessionFactory { private static final ThreadLocal<Session> threadLocal = new ThreadLocal<Session>(); private static Configuration configuration = new AnnotationConfiguration(); private static org.hibernate.SessionFactory sessionFactory; static { try { configuration.configure(configFile); sessionFactory = configuration.buildSessionFactory(); } catch (Exception e) {} } private HibernateSessionFactory() {} public static Session getSession() throws HibernateException { Session session = (Session) threadLocal.get(); if (session == null || !session.isOpen()) { if (sessionFactory == null) { rebuildSessionFactory();//This method basically does what the static init block does } session = (sessionFactory != null) ? sessionFactory.openSession(): null; threadLocal.set(session); } return session; } //More non relevant methods here. Now from my testing it seems that the threadLocal member is indeed initialized only once when the class is first loaded by the JVM but for some reason when different threads access the getSession() method they use different sessions. When a thread first accesses this class (Session) threadLocal.get(); will return null but as expected all other access requests will yeild the same session. I'm not sure how this can be happening as the threadLocal variable is final and the method threadLocal.set(session) is only used in the above context (which I'm 99.9% sure has to yeild a non null session as I would have encountered a NullPointerException at a different part of my app). I'm not sure this is relevant but these are the main parts of my hibernate.cfg.xml file: <hibernate-configuration> <session-factory> <property name="connection.url">someURL</property> <property name="connection.driver_class"> com.microsoft.sqlserver.jdbc.SQLServerDriver</property> <property name="dialect">org.hibernate.dialect.SQLServerDialect</property> <property name="hibernate.connection.isolation">1</property> <property name="hibernate.connection.username">User</property> <property name="hibernate.connection.password">Password</property> <property name="hibernate.connection.pool_size">10</property> <property name="show_sql">false</property> <property name="current_session_context_class">thread</property> <property name="hibernate.hbm2ddl.auto">update</property> <property name="hibernate.cache.use_second_level_cache">false</property> <property name="hibernate.cache.provider_class">org.hibernate.cache.NoCacheProvider</property> <!-- Mapping files --> I'd appreciate any help granted and of course if anyone has any questions I'd be happy to clarify. • Effective Data Validation

    - by John Conde
What's an effective way to handle data validation, say, from a form submission? Originally I had a bunch of if statements that checked each value and collected invalid values in an array for later retrieval (and listing). // Store errors here $errors = array(); // Hypothetical check if a string is alphanumeric if (!preg_match('/^[a-z\d]+$/i', $fieldvalue)) { $errors[$fieldname] = 'Please only use letters and numbers for your street address'; } // etc... What I did next was create a class that handles various data validation scenarios and store the results in an internal array. After data validation was complete I would check to see if any errors occurred and handle accordingly: class Validation { private $errorList = array(); public function isAlphaNumeric($string, $field, $msg = '') { if (!preg_match('/^[a-z\d]+$/i', $string)) { $this->errorList[$field] = $msg; } } // more methods here public function creditCard($cardNumber, $field, $msg = '') { // Validate credit card number } // more methods here public function hasErrors() { return count($this->errorList); } } /* Client code */ $validate = new Validation(); $validate->isAlphaNumeric($fieldvalue1, $fieldname1, 'Please only use letters and numbers for your street address'); $validate->creditCard($fieldvalue2, $fieldname2, 'Please enter a valid credit card number'); if ($validate->hasErrors()) { // Handle as appropriate } Naturally it didn't take long before this class became bloated with the virtually unlimited types of data to be validated. What I'm doing now is using decorators to separate the different types of data into their own classes and call them only when needed leaving generic validations (i.e. isAlphaNumeric()) in the base class: class Validation { private $errorList = array(); public function isAlphaNumeric($string, $field, $msg = '') { if (!preg_match('/^[a-z\d]+$/i', $string)) { $this->errorList[$field] = $msg; } } // more generic methods here public function setError($field, $msg = '') { $this->errorList[$field] = $msg; } public function hasErrors() { return count($this->errorList); } } class ValidationCreditCard { protected $validate; public function __construct(Validation $validate) { $this->validate = $validate; } public function creditCard($cardNumber, $field, $msg = '') { // Do validation // ... // if there is an error $this->validate->setError($field, $msg); } // more methods here } /* Client code */ $validate = new Validation(); $validate->isAlphaNumeric($fieldvalue, $fieldname, 'Please only use letters and numbers for your street address'); $validateCC = new ValidationCreditCard($validate); $validateCC->creditCard($fieldvalue2, $fieldname2, 'Please enter a valid credit card number'); if ($validate->hasErrors()) { // Handle as appropriate } Am I on the right track? Or did I just complicate data validation more then I needed to?

  • C#: Immutable view of a list's objects?

    - by Rosarch
I have a list, and I want to provide read-only access to a collection containing its contents. How can I do this? Something like: public ICollection<Foo> ImmutableViewOfInventory() { IList<Foo> inventory = new List<Foo>(); inventory.add(new Foo()); return inventory.ImmutableView(); } Additionally, an immutable IEnumerable would also be fine.

  • Use Twisted's getPage as urlopen?

    - by RadiantHex
Hi folks, I would like to use Twisted non-blocking getPage method within a webapp, but it feels quite complicated to use such function compared to urlopen. This is an example of what I'm trying to achive: def web_request(request): response = urllib.urlopen('http://www.example.org') return HttpResponse(len(response.read())) Is it so hard to have something similar with getPage?

  • Looking for Programming Language that allows you to change true and false.

    - by Maushu
For my curiosity sake I'm looking for a dynamic object oriented language that allows you to change true to false and vice versa. Something like this: true = false, false = true; This should also affect any conditional statements, therefore 42 == 42 should return False. Basically, with this premise, nothing in the language would be safe from the programmer. Is there any language like this?

  • problem on strings, tuple strings

    - by suresh
Write a function, called constrainedMatchPair which takes three arguments: a tuple representing starting points for the first substring, a tuple representing starting points for the second substring, and the length of the first substring. The function should return a tuple of all members (call it n) of the first tuple for which there is an element in the second tuple (call it k) such that n+m+1 = k, where m is the length of the first substring. Complete the definition def constrainedMatchPair(firstMatch, secondMatch, length):

  • which of these modes : cbc, cfb, ctr, ecb, ncfb, nofb, ofb, stream are secure and which are absolute no-no

    - by user393087
By security I mean that encoded string is indistinguishable from random noise and is different on every encryption of the same text so it is impossible to make a guess on encryption algorithm used or do any dictionary attack on the encoded text. Second: output string length does not correspond to the input string length in easy way, so it is not possible of make guessing on that account. Third: it is possible to verify that the provided password is incorrect so the decoding function could return false instead of supposedly decoded random string.

  • Comet with multiple channels

    - by mark_dj
    Hello, I am writing an web app which needs to subscribe to multiple channels via javascript. I am using Atmosphere and Jersey as backend. However the jQuery plugin they work with only supports 1 channel. I've start buidling my own implementation. Now it works oke, but when i try to subscribe to 2 channels only 1 channel gets notified. Is the XMLHttpRequest blocking the rest of the XMLHttpRequests? Here's my code: function AtmosphereComet(url) { this.Connected = new signals.Signal(); this.Disconnected = new signals.Signal(); this.NewMessage = new signals.Signal(); var xhr = null; var self = this; var gotWelcomeMessage = false; var readPosition; var url = url; var onIncomingXhr = function() { if (xhr.readyState == 3) { if (xhr.status==200) // Received a message { var message = xhr.responseText; console.log(message); if(!gotWelcomeMessage && message.indexOf("") -1) { gotWelcomeMessage = true; self.Connected.dispatch(sprintf("Connected to %s", url)); } else { self.NewMessage.dispatch(message.substr(readPosition)); } readPosition = this.responseText.length; } } else if (this.readyState == 4) { self.disconnect(); } } var getXhr = function() { if ( window.location.protocol !== "file:" ) { try { return new window.XMLHttpRequest(); } catch(xhrError) {} } try { return new window.ActiveXObject("Microsoft.XMLHTTP"); } catch(activeError) {} } this.connect = function() { xhr = getXhr(); xhr.onreadystatechange = onIncomingXhr; xhr.open("GET", url, true); xhr.send(null); } this.disconnect = function() { xhr.onreadystatechange = null; xhr.abort(); } this.send = function(message) { } } And the test code: var connection1 = AtmosphereConnection("http://192.168.1.145:9999/botenveiling/b/product/status/2", AtmosphereComet); var connection2 = AtmosphereConnection("http://192.168.1.145:9999/botenveiling/b/product/status/1", AtmosphereComet); var output = function(msg) { alert(output); }; connection1.NewMessage.add(output); connection2.NewMessage.add(output); connection1.connect(); In AtmosphereConnection I instantiate the given AtmosphereComet with "new". I iterate over the object to check if it has to methods: "send", "connect", "disconnect". The reason for this is that i can switch the implementation later on when i complete the websocket implementation :) However I think the problem rests with the XmlHttpRequest object, or am i mistaken? P.S.: signals.Signal is a js observer/notifier library: http://millermedeiros.github.com/js-signals/ Testing: Firefox 3.6.1.3

  • Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Function, passing list of start and end times

The function would then use the list instead of just one start, and one end time in a select statement.
