Replacing innertext of XML node using PHP DOMDocument

With this in mind, I've been following this example and trying to configure everything accordingly. Why does operator<< not work with something returned by operator-?

So what am I doing wrong that it makes the same number repeat ? Or what should I do to fix it ? I must notice that I've just started working with templates so I have little knowledge it.

Null-free "maps": Is a callback solution slower than tryGet()?

In comments to "How to implement List, Set, and Map in null free design?", Steven Sudit and I got into a discussion about using a callback, with handlers for "found" and "not found" situations, vs. a tryGet() method, taking an out parameter and returning a boolean indicating whether the out parameter had been populated. Steven maintained that the callback approach was more complex and almost certain to be slower; I maintained that the complexity was no greater and the performance at worst the same. But code speaks louder than words, so I thought I'd implement both and see what I got. The original question was fairly theoretical with regard to language ("And for argument sake, let's say this language don't even have null") -- I've used Java here because that's what I've got handy. Java doesn't have out parameters, but it doesn't have first-class functions either, so style-wise, it should suck equally for both approaches. (Digression: As far as complexity goes: I like the callback design because it inherently forces the user of the API to handle both cases, whereas the tryGet() design requires callers to perform their own boilerplate conditional check, which they could forget or get wrong. But having now implemented both, I can see why the tryGet() design looks simpler, at least in the short term.) But, on a hunch, I added some garbage collection, and the performance penalty vanished. This fits with my instinct, which is that we're basically talking about taking the same number of method calls, conditional checks, etc. and rearranging them. But then, I wrote the code, so I might well have written a suboptimal or subconsicously penalized tryGet() implementation. Thoughts?

C socket programming: select() is returning 0 despite messages sent from server

Hey all, I'm using select() to recv() messages from server, using TCP/IP. When I send() messages from the server, it returns a reasonable number of bytes, saying it's sent successful. And it does get to the client successfully when I use while loop to just recv(). Everything is fine and dandy. while(1) recv() // obviously pseudocode However, when I try to use select(), select() returns 0 from timeout (which is set to 1 second) and for the life of me I cannot figure out why it doesn't see the messages sent from the server. I should also mention that when the server disconnects, select() doesn't see that either, where as if I were to use recv(), it would return 0 to indicate that the connection using the socket has been closed. Problem with java and conditional (game of life)

Hello everybody, I'm trying to implement The Game of Life in java, as an exercise to learn this language. Unfortunately I have a problem, as I don't seem able to make this program run correctly. Problem with Email Notifications in VisualSVN Server

Hey guys! I have a dedicated server running windows 2003 server and Visual SVN Server 2.0.8. I'm trying to configure it to send email notifications on commit. So I found this article on Visual SVN site. It says I have to edit the Post-commit hook and set it to the following: "%VISUALSVN_SERVER%\bin\VisualSVNServerHooks.exe" ^ commit-notification "%1" -r %2 ^ --from <from-email> --to <to-email> ^ --smtp-server <smtp-server> Of course I've replaced the variables there. The problem is when someone commits something, the svn client throws the following error: post-commit hook failed (exit code 1) with no output. The commit process runs with no problems, I mean it does commit the files. But it won't send any email notification. If I remove the post-commit hook, then I don't get the error (and of course I don't get any notification). Could you help me out with it? The error doesn't tell too much =S Thank you!

i5 540M or i7 720QM for laptop running VMs and software development tools?

I'm a software developer that would primarily be running Windows 7 as the primary operating system. On a typical day, I might, at any given moment, be running Visual Studio, Expression Web, SQL Server developer (and Management Console), IIS, Photoshop, a dozen browser tabs in 2-3 different browsers, Skype video chat, streaming music, and a couple of VMs (WinXP and Ubuntu) for testing/experimentation. Obviously, RAM is a concern, which is why I plan to use 8 GB so I can devote enough to the VMs to be usable. I'm also tempted to use an ExpressCard SSD for storing the VM disks to ease disk contention. And I know that that is asking a lot from a laptop, and I should just use a desktop, but I need to be able to take my work with me between several locations. It seems that at a reasonable price point, it comes down to the i5 540M versus the i7 720QM. I'm leaning toward the i7 since it would allow me to dedicate a whole hyperthreaded core to each VM, and still have two cores left for the primary OS. I've heard that the i5 has better battery life, but I'm curious for my scenario if there would be a meaningful difference. I don't usually work without a plug, but I do occasionally ride the train or fly and it would be nice to have at least 3 hours of juice for unusual circumstances. And, finally, for this usage scenario, would a dedicated video option be preferred over the i5's integrated video? It sounds like Visual Studio 2010 (and Windows 7) can take advantage of the video card.

Why are my Windows 7 updates continuously failing?

I'm an advanced level user here with an odd issue. I have two Windows Updates that are failing to install, every single time. I'm getting a mysterious "Code 1" error on both updates, an error for which I'm having difficulty finding a solution. The updates in question are: Security Update for Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 Service Pack 1 Redistributable Package (KB2538243) System Update Readiness Tool for Windows 7 for x64-based Systems (KB947821) [May 2011] Because these updates are failing, the Shut Down button in my start menu always has the shield icon next to it, indicating that "new" updates will be installed on shut down. But, of course, they'll fail and when the PC is restarted, the shield icon is still there. I keep receiving the following error when trying to run MikTeX 2.8 or Visual Studio 2008 on 64-Bit Windows Vista. It's particularly odd because both programs were working problem free until a few days ago. The application has failed to start because its side-by-side configuration is incorrect. Please see the application event log for more detail. Opening the Application log provides the following information: Activation context generation failed for "C:\Program Files (x86)\MiKTeX 2.8\miktex\bin\texworks.exe". Error in manifest or policy file "C:\Program Files (x86)\MiKTeX 2.8\miktex\bin\Microsoft.VC90.CRT.MANIFEST" on line 4. Component identity found in manifest does not match the identity of the component requested. Reference is Microsoft.VC90.CRT,processorArchitecture="x86",publicKeyToken="1fc8b3b9a1e18e3b",type="win32",version="9.0.30729.4148". Definition is Microsoft.VC90.CRT,processorArchitecture="x86",publicKeyToken="1fc8b3b9a1e18e3b",type="win32",version="9.0.30729.1". Please use sxstrace.exe for detailed diagnosis. It looks like the problem is with Microsoft.VC90.CRT.MANIFEST, but I am not sure why or how to fix this problem. I have tried uninstalling/reinstalling Visual Studio and MikTeX, as well as uninstalling/reinstalling Microsoft's C++ Redistributable, but nothing seems to be fixing this problem.

First Request to IIS Express Fails with 503 Service Unavailable, Second Succeeds

Each time I start my ASP.Net MVC 3 app from Visual Studio 2010, IIS Express launches and IE spins waiting. The request fails with HTTP 503 Service Unavailable. I hit Refresh in IE, and the request succeeds. All subsequent requests succeed until I stop debugging. The next time I go to start debugging, the first request fails again. Has anyone else experienced this? In IISExpress\applicationhost.config I have: <site name="ProjectName" id="6"> <application path="/" applicationPool="Clr4IntegratedAppPool"> <virtualDirectory path="/" physicalPath="c:\users\chris\dropbox\code\2010\SolutionName\ProjectName" /> </application> <bindings> <binding protocol="http" bindingInformation="*:80:laptop" /> </bindings> </site> I have this in my hosts file: 127.0.0.1 laptop And my Project is set to start with IIS Express, with Project Url set to: http://laptop It's very strange that only the first request fails, perhaps as though Visual Studio isn't waiting long enough for IIS Express to start? Is there some way to make it wait? Stopping debugging, making a change, and then starting again is one of the most common tasks I do so adding another step to get there is pretty annoying.

How do I grant a database role execute permissions on a schema? What am I doing wrong?

I am using SQL Server 2008 Express edition. I have created a Login , User, Role and Schema. I have mapped the user to the login, and assigned the role to the user. The schema contains a number of tables and stored procedures. I would like the Role to have execute permissions on the entire schema. I have tried granting execute permission through management studio and through entering the command in a query window. GRANT EXEC ON SCHEMA::schema_name TO role_name But When I connect to the database using SQL management studio (as the login I have created) firstly I cannot see the stored procedures, but more importantly I get a permission denied error when attempting to run them. The stored procedure in question does nothing except select data from a table within the same schema. I have tried creating the stored procedure with and without the line: WITH EXECUTE AS OWNER This doesn't make any difference. I suspect that I have made an error when creating my schema, or there is an ownership issue somewhere, but I am really struggling to get something working. The only way I have successfully managed to execute the stored procedures is by granting control permissions to the role as well as execute, but I don't believe this is the correct, secure way to proceed. Any suggestions/comments would be really appreciated. Thanks.

Play audio over network with Windows 7?

I have a unique situation where I'd like to stream audio (ALL audio, not just mp3s, etc) from my laptop to another computer over the network. I live in a studio apartment and my laptop is my main computer but I'd like it's audio to play on my htpc with a nice stereo system. Since it's a studio, both computers are in the same room so I don't want 2 sets of speakers. I want my computer to directly play back through the stereo. I used to do this with pulseaudio but my job now requires that I run Windows full time. I'm aware of Shoutcast and other similar streaming solutions but I don't want any transcoding done. It's a waste of CPU and not to mention my laptop fans, and I don't mind the network bandwidth that uncompressed audio requires. Is there a way to run Shoutcast without encoding? Also, I know that Windows Remote Desktop can play audio over the network pretty easily. Is this part of .Net that I could just code a simple app that streams the audio without RD'ing in? I also don't want to run it over a physical wire. :)

SharePoint Backup/Restore without stsadm

Due to problems we found with the restore of sites/site collections using stsadm (our tasks generated from workflows were not restored), we've taken a different route for backup/restore. We plan a major customization to our SP site and want to take a backup so we can rollback in case the install fails. In our System Testing (not production) environment, we've backed up the 12 hive, the virtual dir's that the IIS points to SharePoint, and the SharePoint databases in SQL (using SQL server to do the db backups). We have custom event handlers and workflows built with Visual Studio, and deploy the dlls to the GAC as version 2 (signed and versioned in Visual Studio). So when we deploy, the GAC will contain 2 versions of the workflows - version 1 and version 2. During the deploy we use SP stsadm features to install/activate the WF's. We also go to each library and add the new, version 2 WFs. This automatically sets the version 1 WF's to "Not Allow" new instances (which is what we want) and the version 2 as active - perfect so far. When we've completed the install, we then assume a failure and attempt to restore to the same machines (SharePoint on one server, SQL on another). We start by uninstalling the version 2 WF's from the GAC, reset IIS (to clear cache of these ver. 2 WF dlls'), restore the 12-hive and virtual directory folders, then restore the SQL dbs. This is all just as manual as you read it - no stsadm here. All seems to work after our restore, it appears the restore was successful - the mods we made to column names, data changes, etc during the install are all reverted back to the original pre-install state. With one exception. When we run a workflow, it always fails and the Logs in the 12-hive indicates the WF is still trying to use the version 2 of the dll (System.IO file not found error) We think we've backed up and restored all the moving pieces of Sharepoint but we're missing something here, does anybody have any ideas why the version 2 WF dlls are still being referenced eventhough we restored all the folders and db's of SharePoint? SSRS 2005 inaccessible after install

Hi I've just installed SQL 2005 and Database Engine is ok, however I can't access it for nothing. When I go to http://localhost/reports I get this prompt for a username and password and it fails with 401.1. When I tried to disable kerberos on the virtual directories, nothing changed. I've tried changing the auth to anonymous and get: Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage. When I access from another machine, I get the prompt only once and get this error. Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage. Can't access this with IE or SSMS 2005. If I try to access with Management Studio i get this error: TITLE: Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio The underlying connection was closed: An unexpected error occurred on a receive. (Microsoft.SqlServer.Management.UI.RSClient) ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: Unable to read data from the transport connection: An existing connection was forcibly closed by the remote host. Help Installing SQL Server 2008 Express Edition

Ok I am running Windows 7, 64 bit. I cleaned of SQL server 2005 completely off my system leaving only SQL Compact Edition. I went here http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=01af61e6-2f63-4291-bcad-fd500f6027ff&displaylang=en and installed SQL Server 2008 Express Edition Service Pack 1. After the install, under my start bar menu all i have for SQL configuration tools are the Configuration Manager, Error and Usage Reporting and the Install Center. I don't have the SQL Managment Studio. So I went here http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=08e52ac2-1d62-45f6-9a4a-4b76a8564a2b&displaylang=en and downloaded the SQL Server 2008 Management Studio Express but when I try to install it I get a warning says This program has known compatibility issues and that I need to Install SQL Server 2008 Service Pack 1. I thought that is what I installed. So, I tried to continue running the install but I then get an error message that says Invoke or BeginInvoke can not be called on a Form before it is opened... How can I check if Service pack 1 is installed or not? What should I do? Also I rebooted my system and checked for Windows Updates and it says that Windows it up to date.

Need help diagnosing my machine

I have something that just slows my computer to a crawl sometimes. Not running anything big. Yesterday all I had running (besides background apps) were Firefox & Windows Explorer and could barely even switch screens. Nothing showing up in the task manager as hogging CPUs. I have all non-essential services stopped (MySQl & MSSQL) unless I need them. I made some restore points not long ago, but they disappeared. This is a development mach with a LOT of apps installed, so I really, really do not want to re-install Windows. So, what I'm looking for are ideas or tools I can use to help diagnose this problem. The only clues I have is this started right after I installed Office 2013 (with Office 2010 still installed as well) installed Visual Studio 2012 (also keeping 2010 as a co-install) and installed MSSQL 2012 (upgrade from 2008, no co-install) Also, computer runs fine in Safe Mode. I've just ran out of ideas of what to check. Any help / suggestions would much appreciated. Thanks P.S. I'm running Win 7 Pro (x64). Office is also 64 bit. Visual Studio & MSSQL are 64 bit if that option was available (not sure).

How to find out which program a default beep is coming from in Windows 7?

There's a "default beep" (as defined in System Sounds) that emanates from my computer every so often. It kind of goes like this (where each number is a "default beep" sound): 1, 2, 3, 4, 5. So there's a distinct pattern to it. I thought I had this figured out a way to figure out what was happening by going to Control Panel-Ease of Access-Ease of Access Center-Replace sounds with visual cues But that just isn't the case. Whichever window I click on, that one displays the visual queue when this happens. It's driving me crazy, and I can't figure out which program is causing this. Update: it appears to only happen on one user profile on the computer...does that help? Update 2: Discovered that this sound was coming from a utility on my laptop called ASUS NB Probe; I'm certain that it is emanating from this program because the error message displayed by it changes in sync with the sound playing. Apparently the S.M.A.R.T. feature of my hard drive was reporting an issue. It displays the issue for a brief second and then makes it disappear, I'll have to keep watching it to see what it says, but I believe is says something about a read. I have an external hdd connected with eSATA to a container of sorts (BlacX) that you can plug two hdds into. I have one hdd attached and it's a Western Digital WD1001FALS - 00E8B0 Thanks again! Now I'm off to go around the Internet and report on this...since I posted it so many places!
