  • PHP MVC correct usage

    - by Ratt
What is the correct (recommended method) for passing information to a view in a MVC environment. Currently we use Zend Framework, where we write classes to handle specific things EG a Book class with a save and load method to retrieve info from the DB, which is called from a particular nameAction(). What I would like to know is what is the best way to pass this information to the view, in some cases we do $this-view-book_name = $book-getBookName(); and in other cases we do the following $this-view-book = $book; OR $this-view-books = Book_Manager::getAllBooks(); and then access the object(s) properties in the view. Information on-line suggests we try limit what access a view has to information, i.e pass them only what they need and in some cases people say its ok to pass stuff through as long as nothing is done to that information. • Quering distinct values throught related model

    - by matheus.emm
Hi! I have a simple one-to-many (models.ForeignKey) relationship between two of my model classes: class TeacherAssignment(models.Model): # ... some fields year = models.CharField(max_length=4) class LessonPlan(models.Model): teacher_assignment = models.ForeignKey(TeacherAssignment) # ... other fields I'd like to query my database to get the set of distinct years of TeacherAssignments related to at least one LessonPlan. I'm able to get this set using Django query API if I ignore the relation to LessonPlan: class TeacherAssignment(models.Model): # ... model's fields def get_years(self): year_values = self.objects.all().values_list('year').distinct().order_by('-year') return [yv[0] for yv in year_values if len(yv[0]) == 4] Unfortunately I don't know how to express the condition that the TeacherAssignment must be related to at least one LessonPlan. Any ideas how I'd be able to write the query? Thanks in advance.

  • Rtti for Variant Records

    - by Coco
I try to write a kind of object/record serializer with Delphi 2010 and wonder if there is a way to detect, if a record is a variant record. E.g. the TRect record as defined in Types.pas: TRect = record case Integer of 0: (Left, Top, Right, Bottom: Longint); 1: (TopLeft, BottomRight: TPoint); end; As my serializer should work recursively on my data structures, it will descent on the TPoint records and generate redundant information in my serialized file. Is there a way to avoid this, by getting detailed information on the record?

  • Downloaded chm is blocked, is there a solution?

    - by David Rutten
CHM files that are downloaded are often tagged as potentially malicious by Windows, which effectively blocks all the html pages inside of it. There's an easy fix (just unblock the file after you download it), but I was wondering if there's a better way to provide unblocked chm files. What if I were to download the chm file (as a byte stream) from our server inside the application, then write all the data to a file on the disk. Would it still be blocked? Is there another/better way still?

  • What's the best way to offer javascript embed that won't slow a page down?

    - by Shpigford
I have a chunk of javascript that users can copy and paste to put on their sites. I'm currently using the following code (ala WEDJE) that allows the rest of the page to load even if my script is slow or not responding. <script type="text/javascript"> var number = "987654321"; var key = "123abc"; (function(){ document.write('<div id="ttp"></div>'); s=document.createElement('script'); s.type="text/javascript"; s.src="http://example.com/javascripts/embed.js?" + Math.random(); setTimeout("document.getElementById('ttp').appendChild(s);",1); })() </script> But that method is a few years old and so I wasn't sure if there was a more efficient way of doing the same thing that others have come up with.

  • Interview question: How do I detect a loop in this linked list?

    - by jjujuma
Say you have a linked list structure in Java. It's made up of Nodes: class Node { Node next; // some user data } and each Node points to the next node, except for the last Node, which has null for next. Say there is a possibility that the list can contain a loop - i.e. the final Node, instead of having a null, has a reference to one of the nodes in the list which came before it. What's the best way of writing boolean hasLoop(Node first) which would return true if the given Node is the first of a list with a loop, and false otherwise? How could you write so that it takes a constant amount of space and a reasonable amount of time? Here's a picture of what a list with a loop looks like: Node->Node->Node->Node->Node->Node--\ \ | ----------------

  • Interface injection in Spring Framework

    - by Aubergine
There is article in here, however I am still in doubt, as some people keep confusing me. Doesn't Spring really support Interface injection at all? So what I want to clarify: setSomething(somethingInterface something); // this IS NOT interface injection, IT IS setter injection? Interface injection is when you just write `implements someExportedModuleInterface' and it configures it automatically? Could you please give an example of how this interface injection is done with Spring 'aware' interfaces? I am writing dissertation and I want to be sure what I am saying is not lie and correct.

  • Handling Exceptions that happen in a asp.net MVC Controller Constructor

    - by Jason
What's the best way to handle exceptions that happen from within a controller's constructor? All I can think of to do is use Application_OnError() or put a try/catch in my ControllerFactory. Neither of these solutions seem ideal. Application_OnError is to broad - I have some non-mvc content in the site that has its own error handling. Using a try/catch block seems kinda hacky. If I'm serving different content type -html/text/json/rss.... I would like to be able to handle the exception from within the action method instead of having to write all kinds of conditions to determine what kind of error message to serve. Am I missing something here, or has anyone else dealt with this?

  • How can I determine if a file I want to read from actually exists?

    - by Imray
I'm learning Java, and I'm trying to write a program that can read from a .ser file, which I've already created with a writeTo method. I want to know a given file exists in the system before I tell the program to read from it. My code looks like this: public boolean readFromSerializedFile(String fileName){ FileInputStream fileInStream = null; ObjectInputStream objectInStream = null; try{ fileInStream = new FileInputStream(fileName); objectInStream = new ObjectInputStream(fileInStream); Is there a simple way I can determine if the file with the name of the parameter exists in the root directory (or wherever else specified)?

  • Accessing an API

    - by Paritosh Praharaj
I'm trying to build a Rails app where I have to access the Zomato API Could anybody guide me on how to create the Controller and View. Suppose I want to get the name of the restaurant from this URL: Restaurant, how do I write the controller and views for it. Currently, I'm using HTTParty gem. This is my controller code: def restaurants @response = HTTParty.get("https://api.zomato.com/v1/restaurant.json/773", :headers => {"X-Zomato-API-Key" => "MYAPIKEY"}) puts response.body, response.code, response.message, response.headers.inspect @categories = Category.where(:category_name => 'Restaurants') end And I'm trying to get the response object in the view: <%= @response.each do |item| %> <td><%= item.id %></td> <td><%= item.name %></td> <td><%= item.url %></td> <% end %> So, this shows the following error: undefined method 'id' for ["id", 773]:Array

  • msbuild for .NET 3.5 issue with csla and System.Linq

    - by Sash
This is a weird problem. I am trying to build a .NET 3.5 solution with msbuild. I generally write custom build scripts for this, and when I tried this time to build a simple .NET assembly which internally uses CSLA, it started giving me Linq errors. However, if I build the proj file via msbuild (command line), it seems to build just fine. No issues at all. Anyone else encounter this issue...and if yes, how do i fix this? Thanks, Sashidhar Kokku

  • accessing and modifying tab opened using window.open in google chrome

    - by sonofdelphi
I used to be able to this to create an exported HTML page containing some data. But the code is not working with the latest version of Google Chrome (It works alright with Chrome 5.0.307.11 beta and all other major browsers). function createExport(text) { var target = window.open(); target.title = 'Memonaut - Exported View'; target.document.open(); target.document.write(text); target.document.close(); } Chrome now complains that the domains don't match and disallows the Javascript calls as unsafe. How can I access and modify the document of a newly opened browser-tab in such a scenario?

  • Did your masters degree help you as a programmer?

    - by Tim Sally
There is a previous question ("Is a masters degree overkill?"), which is about the types of jobs available and the value of a masters when trying to get a job. What I am curious about the impact of programming ability. I know you usually write a masters thesis on some topic, which I imagine forces you to specialize. Do your programming skills actually get rusty while getting a masters, or is there some benefit? Would it be more beneficial to work for the two years instead?

  • Virtual Printer Driver for Windows

    - by bitsbunny
Hello, can you please help me with the following questions... If I need a virtual printer that will convert a PostScript stream to a different format, do I have to implement a virtual printer from scratch or implement a rendering plug-in? The rendering plug-in seems to support only certain customizations. Also the data invariably goes to the spooler which is not needed in this case. If I implement a virtual printer driver does it completely replace the Microsoft PostScript Driver or the Microsoft Universal Driver? Since my driver is virtual, does it matter if I write a PostScript compliant or a Universal Driver compliant one? Any other method to convert a printed document to a custom document format apart from implementing a virtual printer driver? Can I hook on as a port monitor or something? From what I could understand I guess not.

  • From .NET to Delphi, an ERP on Delphi

    - by emray
I have learned programming on .NET. It's been 4 years since I have started (serious) programming, I gained experience in VBA, JavaScript but mainly C#. I have spent a lot of time trying to grasp the good coding practices, object orientation etc. Now finally I have a job. The job is fixing/upgrading an ERP on a daily basis. Creating reports and maybe sometimes new stuff. I have absolutely no experience in Delphi, and no motivation to learn it especially when people are moving to .NEt from Delphi not in the reverse direction sa my manager expects :) The question is that are there any tools that I write C# code and compile into this object pascal or whatever it is. Thanks in advance.

  • producing a typewriter-like effect

    - by Tony Ennis
Android newb here. Please use small words :-) I'd like to simulate typewriter output on my Android. The output being displayed is generated by a game and is somewhat freeform. The effect I want to see individual characters appear at a rate of about 6 characters a second. When a 'carriage return' is seen, I'd like to insert a delay then resume typing on the left. What are some suggestions on views? Would the view of choice for this be a TextView? Even that seems like overkill for this read-only coarsely scrolling output. I saw something on this thread about an AsyncTask. That looks useful. Perhaps my game will write to some manner of buffer, and a subclass of AsyncTask will pull characters out every .15 seconds or so, add them to the TextView, then invalidate() the TextView? Sound like a plan?

  • UISearchDisplayController automatically creates a UIPopovercontroller to display content search result ?! How to dismiss it ?

    - by yonel
Hi, I'm using a UISearchDisplayController with a UISearchBar. I put this UISearchBar in my app using IB and I get : Fine : when you start taping, the result popovercontroller appears magically (I didn't write anything on my own to make it appear !) Then, when a row is clicked among the result, I want to dismiss the PopoverController BUT at this stage, I never instantiated the UIPopoverController on my side : it looks like if there's an encapsulated behavior in the UISearchDisplayController that automatically wraps its searchContentsController inside a UIPopoverController. That's really great because everything works perfectly without doing anything except that I cannot get the reference to this UIPopoverController to dismiss it :( Does anyone know how to get the reference to this "magically" created UIPopoverController ? (this is the proof the iPad is really a "magical" device ;) I thought there would be a reference to the UIPopoverController from its contentController (through its parent property for instance), but I cannot find any way to get a pointer to it :/

  • sql server 2005 - return single row when 2 records in right table

    - by Peanut
Hi, I have two related sql server tables ... TableA and TableB. ***TableA - Columns*** TableA_ID INT VALUE VARCHAR(100) ***TableB - Columns*** TableB_ID INT TableA_ID INT VALUE VARCHAR(100) For every single record in TableA there are always 2 records in TableB. Therefore TableA has a one-to-many relationship with TableB. How could I write a single sql statement to join these tables and return a single row for each row in TableA that includes: a column for the VALUE column in the first related row in table B a column for the VALUE column in the second related row in table B? Thanks.

  • Force Python to be 32 bit on OS X Lion

    - by sciencectn
I'm trying to use CPLEX within Python on Mac OS 10.7.5. CPLEX appears to only support a 32 bit python. I'm using this in a python shell to check if it's 32 bit: import sys, platform; print platform.architecture()[0], sys.maxsize > 2**32 I've tried these 2 commands as suggested in man 1 python, but neither seem to force 32 bit: export VERSIONER_PYTHON_PREFER_32_BIT=yes defaults write com.apple.versioner.python Prefer-32-Bit -bool yes The only thing that seems to work is this: arch -i386 python However, if I run a script using arch which calls other scripts, they all seem to start up in 64 bit mode. Is there another system wide variable to force it into 32 bit mode?

  • Easiest way to rename a model using Django/South?

    - by vaughnkoch
Hi everyone, I've been hunting for an answer to this on South's site, google, and SO, but couldn't find a simple way to do this. I want to rename a Django model using South. Say you have the following: class Foo(models.Model): name = models.CharField() class FooTwo(models.Model): name = models.CharField() foo = models.ForeignKey(Foo) and you want to convert Foo to Bar, namely class Bar(models.Model): name = models.CharField() class FooTwo(models.Model): name = models.CharField() foo = models.ForeignKey(Bar) To keep it simple, I'm just trying to change the name from Foo to Bar, but ignore the 'foo' member in FooTwo for now. What's the easiest way to do this using South? a) I could probably do a data migration, but that seems pretty involved. b) Write a custom migration, e.g. db.rename_table('city_citystate', 'geo_citystate'), but I'm not sure how to fix the foreign key in this case. c) An easier way that you know? Thanks!

  • Why isn't this file reading/writing program working?

    - by user320950
    This program is supposed to read files and write them. I took the file open checks out because they kept causing errors. The problem is that the files open like they are supposed to and the names are correct but nothing is on any of the text screens. Do you know what is wrong? #include<iostream> #include<fstream> #include<cstdlib> #include<iomanip> using namespace std; int main() { ifstream in_stream; // reads itemlist.txt ofstream out_stream1; // writes in items.txt ifstream in_stream2; // reads pricelist.txt ofstream out_stream3;// writes in plist.txt ifstream in_stream4;// read recipt.txt ofstream out_stream5;// write display.txt float price=' ',curr_total=0.0; int wrong=0; int itemnum=' '; char next; in_stream.open("ITEMLIST.txt", ios::in); // list of avaliable items out_stream1.open("listWititems.txt", ios::out); // list of avaliable items in_stream2.open("PRICELIST.txt", ios::in); out_stream3.open("listWitdollars.txt", ios::out); in_stream4.open("display.txt", ios::in); out_stream5.open("showitems.txt", ios::out); in_stream.close(); // closing files. out_stream1.close(); in_stream2.close(); out_stream3.close(); in_stream4.close(); out_stream5.close(); system("pause"); in_stream.setf(ios::fixed); while(in_stream.eof()) { in_stream >> itemnum; cin.clear(); cin >> next; } out_stream1.setf(ios::fixed); while (out_stream1.eof()) { out_stream1 << itemnum; cin.clear(); cin >> next; } in_stream2.setf(ios::fixed); in_stream2.setf(ios::showpoint); in_stream2.precision(2); while((price== (price*1.00)) && (itemnum == (itemnum*1))) { while (in_stream2 >> itemnum >> price) // gets itemnum and price { while (in_stream2.eof()) // reads file to end of file { in_stream2 >> itemnum; in_stream2 >> price; price++; curr_total= price++; in_stream2 >> curr_total; cin.clear(); // allows more reading cin >> next; } } } out_stream3.setf(ios::fixed); out_stream3.setf(ios::showpoint); out_stream3.precision(2); while((price== (price*1.00)) && (itemnum == (itemnum*1))) { while (out_stream3 << itemnum << price) { while (out_stream3.eof()) // reads file to end of file { out_stream3 << itemnum; out_stream3 << price; price++; curr_total= price++; out_stream3 << curr_total; cin.clear(); // allows more reading cin >> next; } return itemnum, price; } } in_stream4.setf(ios::fixed); in_stream4.setf(ios::showpoint); in_stream4.precision(2); while ( in_stream4.eof()) { in_stream4 >> itemnum >> price >> curr_total; cin.clear(); cin >> next; } out_stream5.setf(ios::fixed); out_stream5.setf(ios::showpoint); out_stream5.precision(2); out_stream5 <<setw(5)<< " itemnum " <<setw(5)<<" price "<<setw(5)<<" curr_total " <<endl; // sends items and prices to receipt.txt out_stream5 << setw(5) << itemnum << setw(5) <<price << setw(5)<< curr_total; // sends items and prices to receipt.txt out_stream5 << " You have a total of " << wrong++ << " errors " << endl; }

  • Create multiple TCP Connections in C# then wait for data

    - by Ryan French
Hi Everyone, I am currently creating a Windows Service that will create TCP connections to multiple machines (same socket on all machines) and then listen for 'events' from those machines. I am attempting to write the code to create a connection and then spawn a thread that listens to the connection waiting for packets from the machine, then decode the packets that come through, and call a function depending on the payload of the packet. The problem is I'm not entirely sure how to do that in C#. Does anyone have any helpful suggestions or links that might help me do this? Thanks in advance for any help!

  • my first shader in WebGL

    - by Diego
Hello, I am writing my first shader in WebGL. I was wondering if the GLSL language has any way to evaluate if an attribute or a uniform is null. According to the specs it does not support to do something like if (attributeX) { dothis(); } else{ dothat(): } And I think it would be a waste to write a bool attribute for each of these cases would be a waste. Another question: what happen during rendering when you don't pass along the uniforms or attribs to the shader? Thanks!

  • How do I find the largest factor of an integer in mysql

    - by Bill H
    I am trying to write a select query that will dynamically determine the minimum number of items that can be packaged together. I am having trouble with one part of the query. ... CASE WHEN (pid.product_id) THEN 1 WHEN ((p.case_pack = p.inner_pack) AND (p.inner_pack % 11 = 0)) THEN CEILING(p.inner_pack / 11) WHEN ((p.case_pack = p.inner_pack) AND (p.inner_pack % 7 = 0)) THEN CEILING(p.inner_pack / 7) WHEN ((p.case_pack = p.inner_pack) AND (p.inner_pack % 6 = 0)) THEN CEILING(p.inner_pack / 6) WHEN ((p.case_pack = p.inner_pack) AND (p.inner_pack % 5 = 0)) THEN CEILING(p.inner_pack / 5) WHEN ((p.case_pack = p.inner_pack) AND (p.inner_pack % 4 = 0)) THEN CEILING(p.inner_pack / 4) WHEN ((p.case_pack = p.inner_pack) AND (p.inner_pack % 3 = 0)) THEN CEILING(p.inner_pack / 3) WHEN ((p.case_pack = p.inner_pack) AND (p.inner_pack % 2 = 0)) THEN CEILING(p.inner_pack / 2) ELSE p.inner_pack END AS min_pack ... What I want to do is find the largest factorial of an integer (p.inner_pack) that is under 12. Is there a better way to do this in mysql?
