  • HttpWebRequest ReadWriteTimeout ignored in .NET; works in Mono

    When writing data to a web server, my tests show HttpWebRequest.ReadWriteTimeout is ignored, contrary to the MSDN spec. For example if I set ReadWriteTimeout to 1 (=1 msec), call myRequestStream.Write() passing in a buffer that takes 10 seconds to transfer, it transfers successfully and never times out using .NET 3.5 SP1. The same test running on Mono 2.6 times out immediately as expected. What could be wrong?

The actual debugging engine, however, is embedded in the game itself and is written in a mixture of C, C++, and assembly patches.     Is there a difference between a package and a folder in eclipse? for example, if I have this hierarchy requirement: java –classpath C:\ChatCompany\BackendChatServer\ -Djava.security.policy=c:\HW2\permissions.policy hw2.chat.backend.main.ChatBackendServer when the package's name is: "hw2.chat.backend.main" and "ChatCompany\BackendChatServer\" is the folder name, then how can I make this separation between a package and a folder in eclipse, so that I can write "package hw2.chat.backend.main" and not "package ChatCompany.BackendChatServer.hw2.chat.backend.main"? thanks

  • Why do updates inside of a SQL transaction still need disk IO?

    In SQL Profiler you can see that very simple updates to a table by primary key take about 10-30ms each. On about every 10th update the write column shows 1, on all other updates it shows 0. This must mean that about every 10th update statement still requires disk IO. I wonder why that is. Would it not be more efficient queue up all IO until the transaction commits?

Type families seems to be the preferred approach among Haskellers, but I've run into a situation where functional dependencies seem like a better fit. Am I missing a trick?   • Remove extra junk from C preprocessor?

    I'm trying to use the C preprocessor on non-C code, and it works fine except for creating lines like this at the top: # 1 "test.java" # 1 "<built-in>" # 1 "<command-line>" # 1 "test.java" The problem is that these lines aren't valid in Java. Is there any way to get the preprocessor to not write this stuff? I'd prefer not to have to run this through something else to just remove the first 4 lines every time.

I'm beginning to ask myself: Why the Java VM? What makes it so powerful or popular that there are new programming languages, which seem gaining popularity too, created for it? Why don't they write a new VM for a new language?
