• JBoss 5.1.0 (JSF/Seam) cookies blowing up with accented characters

  I cannot see this behavior in JBoss 4.2.3. If I try to call addCookie() on HttpServletResponse and my cookie value has accented characters in it (ex. ç) I get this exception: java.lang.IllegalArgumentException: Control character in cookie value, consider BASE64 encoding your value Does anyone know what change in JBoss 5.1.0 could be causing these problems?

• Lucene unexpectedly gives different results when operator of search words changes

  I am using Lucene with Java. In the index I have a single document with a single name:value-field text:alabama oklahoma When I search for +alabama -oklahoma it returns no results, as expected. However, when I search for -alabama +oklahoma it returns the single document as a match to the query. Has anyone else noticed this behaviour? Any ideas on why this happens?

• JVM hs_err.log not being generated on Linux

  Hello, I'm currently having some issues with a Java application I'm developing. Namely the JVM is crashing with a segfault. I'm trying to locate the hs_err.log file which should contain some helpful info about the issue. However, I can't find this file. I've used find, locate, etc, and nothing. Any ideas on why the log file isn't being generated?

  My Understanding Static block is executed during class loading, If a class is already loaded then there is no way to load the class other than class reloading Doubt/Question 1) Is there any time JVM reloads the class? My Understanding In Class Loading JVM loads source of the Java file, so it can not keep all thousands files source is a memory, it should discard the rarely used code and reload again when it is necessary and during reload JVM is not initializing static variables and locks again(may be using some tracking mechanism) Doubt/Question 2) If my above understanding is incorrect then please correct me

So it looks like even though I'm not using threaded classes my objects will be heavier because of that?   I am running CentOS 5.5 x86_64 with JDK 1.6, Eclipse Galileo, and the 0.9.7 ADT is installed; however, after installation, the Android project type is not available.   I use doubles for a uniform implementation of some arithmetic calculations. These calculations may be actually applied to integers too, but there are no C++-like templates in Java and I don't want to duplicate the implementation code, so I simply use "double" version for ints. Does JVM spec guarantees the correctness of integer operations such a <=,=, +, -, *, and / (in case of remainder==0) when the operations are emulated as corresponding floating point ops? (Any integer, of course, has reasonable size to be represented in double's mantissa)

• What does it mean when a ByteInputStream keeps returning 0?

  I have a ByteInputStream, created from a Socket in Java. The connection is to a simple web server that uses chunked transfer encoding. The web server does in fact work in normal browser. But in my program, I am attempting to read, I read the first first bytes (some 5kb of data). But each read after that returns 0 bytes read. Isn't it supposed to block until it can read?
