• User authentication on a Jersey REST service

  I am currently developing a REST application, which is using the Jersey framework. I would like to know a way that I can control user authentication. I have search a lot of places, and the closest article I have found is this: http://weblogs.java.net/blog/2008/03/07/authentication-jersey. However this article can only be used whith a GlassFish server and a attached database. Is there anyway that I can implement an interface in Jersey and use it as a filter before reaching the requested REST resource? I want to use basic authentication right now, but it should be flexible enough such that I can change that at a later time. Thanks in Advance Stefan.

• Why is it so difficult to get a working IDE for Scala?

  I recently gave up trying to use Scala in Eclipse (basic stuff like completion doesn't work). So now I'm trying IntelliJ. I'm not getting very far. This was the original error. See below for update: Scala signature Predef has wrong version Expected 5.0 found: 4.1 in .... scala-library.jar I tried both versions 2.7.6 and 2.8 RC1 of scala-*.jar, the result was the same. JDK is 1.6.u20. UPDATE Today I uninstalled IntelliJ 9.0.1, and installed 9.0.2 Early Availability, with the 4/14 stable version of the Scala plug-in. Then I setup a project from scratch through the wizards: new project from scratch JDK is 1.6.u20 accept the default (project) instead of global / module accept the download of Scala 2.8.0beta1 into project's lib folder Created a new class: object hello { def main(args: Array[String]) { println("hello: " + args); } } For my efforts, I now have a brand-new error :) Here it is: Scalac internal error: class java.lang.ClassNotFoundException [java.net.URLClassLoader$1.run(URLClassLoader.java:202), java.security.AccessController.doPrivileged(Native Method), java.net.URLClassLoader.findClass(URLClassLoader.java:190), java.lang.ClassLoader.loadClass(ClassLoader.java:307), sun.misc.Launcher$AppClassLoader.loadClass(Launcher.java:301), java.lang.ClassLoader.loadClass(ClassLoader.java:248), java.lang.Class.forName0(Native Method), java.lang.Class.forName(Class.java:169), org.jetbrains.plugins.scala.compiler.rt.ScalacRunner.main(ScalacRunner.java:72)] Thanks

• How to do this GQL query in JDO

  I have about 50k entities stored in appengine. I am able to look up an individual record via the GQL admin interface with a query like: SELECT * FROM Pet where __key__ = KEY( 'Pet','Fido') But I'm having trouble figuring out how to do a batch version of this via JDO. Right now I have this: PersistenceManager pm = ...; for(Pet pet : pets) { for(String k : getAllAliases(pet)) { keys.add(KeyFactory.createKeyString(Pet.class.getSimpleName(), k)); } } Query q = pm.newQuery("select from " + Pet.class.getName() + " where id == :keys"); List<Pet> petlist = (List<Pet>) q.execute(keys); But though 'Fido' works in the GQL case, it returns nothing when I use that Java + JDO code. What am I doing wrong?

I've been able to edit programs (within syntax highlighting and completion... yay!). But I'm unable to run even the simplest "Hello World".   I've been trying to get to mock a method with vararg parameters using Mockito: interface A { B b(int x, int y, C... c); } A a = mock(A.class); B b = mock(B.class); when(a.b(anyInt(), anyInt(), any(C[].class))).thenReturn(b); assertEquals(b, a.b(1, 2)); This doesn't work, however if I do this instead: when(a.b(anyInt(), anyInt())).thenReturn(b); assertEquals(b, a.b(1, 2)); This works, despite that I have completely omitted the varargs argument when stubbing the method. Any clues?

The UI should be chosen at runtime, i.e. the strategies should be independent of it. The parameter dialog should not be monolithic and there should be the possibility to make it behave and look different for each strategy and UI (e.g. console or Swing).   I have a GWT module with the X-GWT-Module-Base http://host:8080/foo/ and would like to call a (GWT) service which is located at http://host:8080/bar/. The reason is for example that I want to be able to share a GWT service between two different GWT client projects. All I've gotten to work so far is if the service is located within the module context, i.e. http://host:8080/foo/bar works fine, using @RemoteServiceRelativePath("bar") in my service interface.   I vaguely remember that it's possible to set up virtual network interfaces with their own IP addresses, using only one physical network connection. I can find a few guides on the internet that recommend setting these up in /etc/network/interfaces, but Ubuntu doesn't use this file. Therefore my question: What's the correct way of setting these up in recent versions of Ubuntu? As this is a laptop, and I need it to connect to all kinds of different networks, I want to keep the network manager and all its configuration. To be more clear: at the end of this, I want to have a new network interface (e.g. "eth42") with its own IP address, but using whatever is connected in network manager to send the actual packets. In NM, it should appear as if I just had a second ethernet adapter installed in my system.

• Labeling connections using Oracle Universal Connection Pool (UCP) doesn't seem to work

  I'm evaluating the Oracle Universal Connection Pool (UCP) included with their 11.2 JDBC driver, but cannot get the labeling functionality to work properly (which I'd like to use to minimize the amount of ALTER SESSION statements). I'm basically following their sample code to implement the ConnectionLabelingCallback interface. The callback method cost(Properties reqLabels, Properties currentLabels) is called as expected, so the callback seems to be configured correctly. However, the other callback method configure(Properties reqLabels, Object conn) is passed arguments that make it impossible to provide a meaningful implementation: reqLabels is always null, so the callback method has no way of knowing what labels need to be set. conn is of type oracle.jdbc.driver.T4CConnection, which cannot be cast to LabelableConnection, so the callback method has no way of inspecting or manipulating the labels attached to the connection. My code is running on Java 6 and using ojdbc6.jar and ucp.jar version 11.2.0.1.0. The database is actually 10.2, but that should not be a problem according to the docs, since the UCP functionality is completely implemented in the JDBC driver. Thanks in advance!

  Hi all, I am currently using Quartz Scheduler for asynchronous tasks such as sending an email when an exception occurs, sending an email from the web interface, or periodically analyzing traffic. Should I use a message queue for sending an email? Is it any more efficient or correct to do it that way? The scheduler approach works just fine. If I use a queue and the email failed to send, is it possible for the queue to retry sending the email at a later time? The queue approach looks simpler than the scheduler for tasks that need to happen immediately, but for scheduler tasks, the scheduler still, unless there is more to the queue than I am aware of. I have not yet used JMS, so this is what I have read. Walter

• Share application in local network

  I would like to eventually create a managerial program that shares and updates information for multiple computers that are on the same network. I am fairly familiar with Python, C++ and a bit of Java, is there a library I could use with any of these languages to design such a program? I could probably create the local interface from where I am right now, but when it comes to packing and sharing data I could not be more clueless; any advice would be platinum. The program will need to differentiate between administrative and user access if that makes a difference.

• Alternatives to Java for Android development?

  Hey all, I've started developing Android apps a couple of months ago, and have a few under my belt. While I can tolerate Java enough to keep developing, I was wondering what success the community has had getting other languages to run. I've done some investigation as to how other JVM languages work, and it appears Dalvik messes them up pretty hard. Clojure seems unable to run, Scala seems to be one of the most successful. JRuby has also had some luck, but they caution against anything major. I've also checked out Scheme via Moby and Kawa, both of which seem to have some promise. What luck have any of you had? Languages I'm missing, misrepresenting? Any non-"Hello World" apps you've written in non-Java? Any snags in trying to get another language to run (e.g. "as long as you don't use continuations, you're fine in X Scheme"). Any particular snags in developing apps non-Java, once you get them to run? Thanks, hope you well ^_^

• Navigate to the Same Page After Action in JSF 2

  I have a component done in JSF 1.x, this component has a command button as follows <h:commandButton ... action="#{templateController.next}" /> Where templateController was passed as an EL binding and can be any object that implements a certain interface. The generic implementation of next() was just executing code and then returning an empty string causing the same page to refresh: public String next() { ..... return ""; } Now I am trying to port that component to JSF 2, my problem is that an empty string doesn't cause the same page to refresh anymore, instead, the framework tries to redirect to a page called ".jsf" i.e it just appends .jsf to whatever the outcome is. My question is how to return an outcome that causes the current page to refresh. My component is generic and I don't know before hand the name of the page it is going to be used on. Thanks

• Jquery getJSON() doesn't work when trying to get data from java server on localhost

  The whole day yesterday I've been trying to solve this but it's proven to be very challenging for me. I'm trying to use this JS to get information from a java application I wrote. $(document).ready(function() { $.getJSON('http://localhost/custest?callback=?', function(json) { alert('OK'); $('.result').html(json.description); }); }); The Java application uses httpServer and is very basic. When I access the page 'http://localhost/custest?callback=?' with Firefox, the browser shows me the server is sending me json data and asks with what to open it with, but when I try it from a webpage using the JS above it doesn't work. The getJSON call is not successful, the alert("ok") doesn't popup at all. If it replace "http://localhost/custest?callback=?" in the JS with "http://twitter.com/users/usejquery.json?callback=?" everything works fine. An interesting thing is that if I send malformed JSON from my java server Firebug gives an error and tells me what is missing from the JSON so that mean the browser is receiving the JSON data, but when I send it correct a JSON string nothing happens, no errors, not even the alert() opens. Scala signature Predef has wrong version Expected 5.0 found: 4.1 in .... scala-library.jar I tried both versions 2.7.6 and 2.8 RC1 of scala-*.jar, the result was the same. JDK is 1.6.u20. UPDATE Today uninstalled IntelliJ 9.0.1, and installed 9.0.2 Early Availability, with the 4/14 stable version of the Scala plug-in. If i launch a build of the hudson job configured with this batch command, it doesn't work. The build is running... and running... and running.. without doing anything, and i have to stop it manually. So my question is: Is it possible to launch an external programm (i.e. putty) from an hudson job ? ps: i tried SSH plugin but... not a really good plugin (pre/post build, fail status of the commands launched not caught by hudson, etc.) Thanks in advance for your help.
