• How does Apache process several requests at a time?

  In a short question: If 10 requests hit Apache, does it process them one by one, so when R3 finishes, then it starts to run R4, or does it fire 10 processes/threads/whatever and are resolved simultaneously? Now some background: I have a PHP script that takes up to two minutes to do some processes. My question is: while a client is waiting for this 2 minutes, all the other clients requests are being processed? Or also waiting for this one to end? By the way, if there are simultaneous request, how can I handle them? Let's say put a limit on them. Or a limit on resources consumed. For instance I want the server to use its 80% performance on serving the webapp, and just a 20% for those long operations ... because I have no hurry to end them. Doesn't know if it cares but is all in PHP. Thanks in advance!!

• How to create a shortcut to PC Settings?

  I need a shortcut (typical shortcut file, script, special exe, doesn't matter) for PC Settings in Windows 8. I see that PC Settings is an executable named SystemSettings.exe, found in C:\Windows\ImmersiveControlPanel. However, creating a shortcut to it doesn't work. The same if I try to run this executable from the Command Prompt, for example. Any ideas on how to create such a shortcut? Any idea, no matter how crazy, is appreciated. Thanks!

• Overload Protection

  Is there a simple way how I could redirect a visitor (via .htaccess or PHP script) to a static page when the server is overloaded from too many requests? It doesn't have to be a protection against huge amounts of requests at once or protect against DoS Attacks. I think our server would be protected enough if we could prevent the standard website to be shown and instead show a single file "overloaded.html". Also how could I get a measure for a server being overloaded on a typical managed server (= non root access to a Linux server) environment?

• Using (embedding?) wireshark in a C application for sniffing

  I'm writing a C/C++ application which needs (among other things) to sniff packets and save the output in a file. This file will be read and processed by wireshark after a few days, using a LUA script to do some other stuff. My question is for the sniffing part which must be provided by my application. I can see two ways to do this: 1) Fork the wireshark process in background (of course using the command line version) 2) Using wireshark as library: no forking but include stuff like "wireshark.h" and link against libwireshark.so, thus using function calls to do the sniffing. So far I haven't found any documentation about #2 and it seems that #1 is the "right way" to embed sniffing capabilities in my code. Do you think I'm doing he right thing? Does wireshark allow embedding as a library?

• AR9485 wireless card loses ability to connect after hibernation

  This has happened twice now, the first time it happened I just reinstalled Ubuntu. The only things that I've been messing with in terms of networking, have been restarting the network-manager service after I resume from hibernate (because it never works right after resume, but restarting the service fixes that), and changing my mac address with ifconfig wlan0 down && ifconfig wlan0 hw ether 11:22:33:44:55 && ifconfig wlan0 up. using tail | dmesg returns a bunch of attempts to connect, saying something like authenticating ... okay you're connected! now I'm going to just disconnect because I feel like it. (reason=3). Any ideas? If it helps maybe I'll add a picture of the tail|dmesg output later. My wireless drivers are as follows: Atheros AR9485 Wireless Network Adapter Hamachi Network Interface Microsoft Virtual Wifi Miniport Adapter Realtek PCIe GBE Family Controller VirtualBox Host-Only Ethernet Adapter Here is a pastebin of some terminal outputs that could help. Also, the reddit thread has a few answers, for anyone curious. It's located here. It is entirely possible that it's just my school wifi blocking out my laptop, and my home wifi sucks.   I finally have the swapspace project installed and running (via init.d). The purpose is to have a dynamically re-sizing swap partition. I'm clueless however on how to use it. It has good documentation but just does not go into that last step. How to I configure a swap partition using swapspace? The process is probably the same for any 3rd party program that would provide a swap space implementation to the kernel. I know this was intended to run as a process because the project provides an init.d script.

• cant access my local web server with the external IP

  I havent been able to find a solution to my particular problem. I have a MAC which I set up as a web server and configured my router to forward to the local IP. When trying to access my site from outside, it does say "It works!", however, when I call a simple Hello World PHP script that I have, I am getting an error that the page could not be opened. I did enable PHP on my machine so thats not the problem. I really have no idea how can I access - I followed so many tutorials and did everything correctly.   I am using Ubuntu 12.04 64-bit, with all updates installed. I made a simple shell script that starts a SOCKS5 tunnel and launches Firefox (with correct network proxy settings) to use the tunnel. How do I recognize when Firefox has ended (when I close it) so that I can close the tunnel?   I manage IT for a large organization with over 2000 people. The administration would like to send an email (often with up to 5 word document attachments) about once per week. They also want to categorize people. For instance, about 40 people are "teachers," about 1800 people are "students," and about 10 people are "board members." They may send an email to any combination of these categories. Here's what I have tried: I bought a server, installed Ubuntu server edition on it, and wrote a python script to send out their emails. However, pretty soon, mail services such as Gmail and Yahoo began to treat the mail I send out as SPAM. I'm guessing this is because I am sending an email with 2000+ people in the "bcc" field. Maintaining this server also takes a lot of time. How do I set up a mailing list for over 2000 people? Must I defer to paid services?

• Windows 8: How to Lock (not sleep) laptop on lid close?

  If my laptop is connected to power source and is not configured to sleep on lid close (it is connected to power source and is working, i don't want it to sleep. It's compiling my code) if i close the lid, laptop will do nothing. This works as expected, but actually if i have my laptop connected to power source in the office it will be good to lock it if i close a lid. So no one can just open the lid and see my unlocked desktop. I searched google and it says thet correct use case is to manually lock laptop via Win + L every time before lid is closed. This is ok, but not very secure - after all, i can forget Win + L. Is t any easy way (maybe some registry value or app) to configure windows laptop so it will lock on lid close even without sleep? Of course i can write app / powershell script for this task, but this is not suitable for non-programmers end users.

  Possible Duplicate: Does google always downrank pages with hidden texts Right now I'm working on my new website and I'm really concerned about SEO since the old version of my site(which is from a script that is unusable now) has PR of 4 and I want to lose it So here is my question There is a panel that has 4 tabs Each tabs has tag which has a href like "/box-page/tab/2" and when javascript is not activated it will go this page and shows the corresponding tab and if it's activated it will just make a simple animation to show the other tab There are four boxes(and for tabs) and since I needed to fix the height of the panel I had to use width: 0 for the rest of tabs to keep the height of the box the same as the longest one and inside these boxes(which have width: 0) there are some information that can be indexed by google So as you know google doesn't have javascript and it will go to /box-page/tab/2 and /box-page/tab/3 and ... in all of these pages the information is the same but with different box showing up in the page So here is my question Does google penalize using a div with width: 0px? And if not does it just ignore the content of the div with width 0?(Which is perfect for me ^^) Thanks

• Xubuntu 12.04: Slow Login

  I'm running Xubuntu 12.04, and after I ran the update, my login started slowing down big time. I've dabbled a little bit with the programs in Settings - Settings Manager - Session and Startup, and tried closing and opening these programs, and then rebooting. Anyways, I narrowed it down to a combination of 2 processes, "Network" (the connection manager) and "Xfce Volume Daemon". Their corresponding terminal commands are: ~$ nm-applet ~$ xfce4-volumed If I disable them, and then run them after login is complete, everything works just fine. Is there a way for me to run these commands automatically at start up? I want to maybe write a shell script and save it somewhere, or at least edit the order things happen after login, so the desktop can load before these processes.   Let me first start off by saying I am not an experienced linux user. I am trying to debug a mysql script in linux, however, my issue is that most of the queries are successful so I can not see the error messages because they scroll off the screen. I am executing the queries from a large file using the \. command. I was wondering if there was a way to show ONLY the error messages when I exececute the sql file. Right now it is showing both error messages and Query OK,.... I don't really care about the queries that are ok, just the errors. Thanks!

• Possible to run system-config-network during %post kickstart?

  Hello, I'm currently trying to figure out a smart way to set IP, hostname, gateway and DNS settings during a kickstart (with user input during the kickstart). Doing this with firstboot after the install is not acceptable, so this must be done during %post. I've tried to run the system-config-network tool during post in tty6: #!/bin/sh chvt 6 exec < /dev/tty6 > /dev/tty6 /usr/bin/system-config-network-tui This doesn't work since for some reason I'm unable to catch user input. I would prefer to use built in tools to change this during post, rather than write my own bash script to do this, since using the provided tools is less likely to break anything. Does someone done anything like this or similar, and made it work? Thanks

• SSRS ReportViewer 2010 Iframe IE Problem

  Hello all, My problem relates to trying to include an SSRS (SQL Server) Report inside my MVC application. I've settled on the hybrid solution of having a WebForm with the ReportViewer Control in and then on my MVC View pages having an iframe reference this WebForm page. The tricky part is that the iframe needs to be dynamically populated with the report rather than using src due to posting parameters to the WebForm. It works perfectly in Firefox and Chrome, however IE throws a "Sys is Undefined" javascript error. Using src on the iframe works in IE, but I can't find a way to post parameters (don't want to use something like /Report.aspx?param1=test due to the possible length). Its a ASP.NET MVC 2 project, .NET 4, Visual Studio 2010 on Windows 7 x74 if its any help. • SMO ConnectionContext.StatementTimeout setting is ignored

  I am successfully using Powershell with SMO to backup most databases. However, I have several large databases in which I receive a "timeout" error "System.Data.SqlClient.SqlException: Timeout expired". The timout consistently occurs at 10 minutes. I have tried setting ConnectionContext.StatementTimeout to 0, 6000, and to [System.Int32]::MaxValue. The setting made no difference. I have found a number of Google references which indicate setting it to 0 makes it unlimited. No matter what I try, the timeouts consistently occur at 10 minutes. I even set Remote Query Timeout on the server to 0 (via Studio Manager) to no avail. Below is my SMO connection where I set the time out and the actual backup function. Further below is the output from my script. UPDATE Interestingly enough, I wrote the backup function in C# using VS 2008 and the timeout override does work within that environment. I am in the process of incorporating that C# process into my Powershell Script until I can find out why the timeout override does not work with just Powershell.
