• Delay before booting with laptop

  I have almost the same problem as in Delay before booting? My computer is a practically new (couple months) Lenovo X200 Tablet (System Model 7449FXG). So when I press the power button, the indicator light that means "computer is on" turns on, but nothing else happens for about 5 mins, after that the computer starts booting normally. The same happens also on restart. And no USB or any other device for that matter is plugged in to the computer. And at the delay time the monitor is blank - actually not on at all.

• Windows 7 Keyboard Repeat Rate and Delay are Reset on Resume from Standby / Sleep

  I always keep my keyboard repeat rate at the maximum and the delay at the minimum for optimal keyboard responsiveness. Under Windows 7 however, I have found that the rate and delay are reset to the defaults (ie the one’s that are set with a fresh Windows installation) whenever the system resumes from sleep and requires opening the keyboard control panel applet (which already shows the desired settings) and manually setting them again by pressing Enter. I have seen a couple of posts in the Microsoft support forums, but no solutions. Does anyone know of a way to fix this?

  I'm stuck with a pretty rare problem that happens on Windows 7 OS only. Every time I'm deleting the file with *.exe extension through explorer, the file doesn't get deleted immediately. I'm forced to wait for around one-two minutes before the system will delete the file. The main problem is that I cannot develop in such situation, because every time I build my solution, the old executable gets 'deleted', but is still there. So the new one cannot be created by Visual Studio. This problem breaks the Steam update progress and a few other installers functionality too. Fresh installed Win7 doesn't have this kind of trouble, so I guess this must be some bad registry entries or some services. Browsing the internet for solutions I found only this: http://www.sevenforums.com/software/72091-several-minute-delay-when-deleting-any-exe-file.html. But the solution the author found is not working (change the userName :)). Is there any ideas how to find what causes this to happen? BTW: when I place the file into Trash bin, no delay occurs. When I delete file with Total Commander - no delay too. Tech details: Windows 7 x64 Ultimate.

• Postfix + procmail - delivery fails because "can't create user output file" - on CentOS 6.2

  I verified that my postfix installation / relaying setup worked. Now I am having trouble with procmail. I have it wired to postfix with the following command: mailbox_command = /usr/bin/procmail -f -a "$USER" I have nothing in my procmail config but the following: LOGFILE=/var/procmailrc/log And I send an email to a recipient that previously worked (before I attached procmail). • How to get IMediaControl.Run() to start a file playing with no delay

  I am attempting to use DirectShow to play two AVI files consecutively (one after the other) so that there is no interruption in the audio or video when the player transitions from one file to the next. I have two custom controls on my form. Each one is pre-loaded with an AVI file, and before playback begins I set up all the DirectShow interfaces, set the video windows and resize them, call IMediaControl.Run(), then IMediaControl.Pause(), then IMediaSeeking.SetPositions to reset to frame 0, on both controls. On the form, you can see that both files are paused at their initial frames. I then call IMediaControl.Run() on the first control, and wait for it to complete before calling Run() on the second control. Initially, I hooked into the first video's EC_COMPLETE notification message, and used this to start the second. Thinking that this event might be slow to arrive (turns out it is, but for a weird reason), I tried two other approaches: Check the first video's current position inside a timer that goes off every second or so (using IMediaPosition.get_CurrentPosition). When the current position is within a second of the video's stop time (known in advance from IMediaPosition.get_StopTime), I go into a tight while loop and wait for the current position to equal the stop time, and then call Run() on the second video. Same as the first, except I replace the while loop with a call to timeSetEvent from winmm.dll, with a delay set so that it fires right when the first file is supposed to end. I use the callback to Run() the second file. Either of these two methods substantially cuts down the delay between the end of the first file and the beginning of the second, indicating that the EC_COMPLETE message doesn't arrive immediately after the file is complete (I also tried hooking the EC_SEGMENT_COMPLETE message, which is supposed to be used for looping within a file, but apparently nobody supports this - it never occurs on my machine, at least). Doing all of the above has cut the transition delay from as much as a second, down to a barely perceptible glitch; about a third of the time the files transition with no interruption at all, which suggests there's no fundamental reason I can't get this to work all the time. The slight delay is still unacceptable, unfortunately. I assume (and I could easily be wrong) that the remaining delay is due to a slight variable delay between the call to IMediaControl.Run() and when the video actually starts playing. Does anybody know anything I can do to eliminate this little lag? It would also help to be told this is fundamentally impossible for whatever reason, which wouldn't surprise me. I've never encountered a video player in Windows that doesn't have this problem, so it may not be doable. More info: the AVI files I'm playing are completely uncompressed (video and audio are uncompressed), so I don't think the lag is due to DirectShow's having to uncompress the video ahead of play start, although it may still buffer ahead as matter of course (and this may be the source of the problem). I would have though that starting play, pausing and then rewinding to the beginning would fix this. Also, the way I'm handling the transition is to actually have the second control underneath the first; when the first completes playing, I start the second and then call BringToFront on it, creating the appearance of a single video transitioning between the two originals. I don't think the glitch is due to this, because it works perfectly some of the time, and even if this were problematic, it wouldn't explain the matching audio glitch. Even more: I just tried starting the second video 30-50 milliseconds "early" and that seemed to eliminate even more of the gap, so I'm guessing that the lag in Run() is about that long. It appears to be variable, though, so this is still not where I need it to be.

  Hi, I recently signed up to a new hosted email provider. When I send mail (from OWA, OR Outlook) there is a delay of up to 3 minutes from when i send the message, to when it's received (in my gmail account for example) I've listed the headers below. Is there anything I can advise my new email host to do? My previous email host delivers within 5 seconds!! • Email delivery failure - bounceback address

  I've been looking for documentation on the standard behaviour for mail servers who fail to deliver their mail. I want the 'From' field to be different from the account that receives emails when there is a delivery failure. E.g. My program sends an email from '[email protected]', and on failure to deliver I want to be sent the delivery failure bounceback at '[email protected]'. Is this accomplished by setting the reply-to? Or should I login with the 'failedemails' account and therefore it will receive the email back? Thanks.

• HAProxy causing delay

  I am trying to configure HAProxy to do load balancing for a custom webserver I created. Right now I am noticing an increasing delay with HAProxy as the size of the return message increases. For example, I ran four different tests, here are the results: Response 15kb through HAProxy: Avg. response time: .34 secs Transacation rate: 763 trans/sec Throughput: 11.08 MB/sec Response 2kb through HAProxy: Avg. response time: .08 secs Transaction rate: 1171 trans / sec Throughput: 2.51 MB/sec Response 15kb directly to server: Avg. response time: .11 sec Transaction rate: 1046 trans/sec throughput: 15.20 MB/sec Response 2kb directly to server: Avg. Response time: .05 secs Transaction rate: 1158 trans/sec Throughput: 2.48 MB/sec All transactions are HTTP requests. As you can see, there seems to be a much bigger difference between response times for when the response is bigger, than when it is smaller. I understand there will be a slight delay when using HAProxy. Not sure if it matters, but the test itself was run using siege. And during the test there was only one server behind the HAProxy(the same that was used in the direct to server tests). I have heard suggestions that I may have to adjust a few of my sysctl settings. I could not find a lot of information on this however, most documentation is for Linux 2.4 and 2.6 on the sysctl stuff, I am running 3.2(Ubuntu server 12.04), which seems to auto tuning, so I have no clue what I should or shouldn't be changing. Most settings changes I tried had no effect or a negative effect on performance. Just a notice, this is a very preliminary test, and my hope is that at deployment time, my HAProxy will be able to balance 10k-20k requests/sec to many servers, so if anyone could provide information to help me reach that goal, it would be much appreciated. • Emacs mode is being applied with the delay

  I am trying to use Emacs for developing in Lua, and installed a Lua mode for that. After doing this I was unhappy about the background and changed it by applying the face of my text mode (which I configred by myself). It worked, but now the modified settings for Lua mode are being applied with the significant delay (3-5 sec) after opening a Lua file. Both .emacs and lua-mode.el are byte-compiled. Any advice?

• ContentAssist delay on editors for Eclipse?

  When using the Java Editor for Eclipse, one can set the ContentAssist delay to 0 seconds (in the Java Editor ContentAssist options). In other language editors, e.g EPIC (Perl Integration), this option isn't offered. However I guess that for all languages editors there is a configuration file where one can change this correctly, which is the same as for the Java Editor. So, where is the configuration file for the Eclipse Java Editor concerning the ContentAssist stuff? Thanks :-)

• Can I delay selection of a file name?

  XP SP3 I have my system set up so that I do not need to double click on an item to open it. However, I find that items are selected when I move over them swiftly. This is a problem when I want to save a file and inadvertently pass over another file name. It immediately gets selected. Is there a way to delay this selection for, say, a second so that they are not selected so quickly? Thanks. Regards,

  The situation: a workflow hosted in ASP.NET application using WorkflowServiceHost and contains durable delay. The workflow is currently inside the delay activity and was persisted into database. Then the application pool, under which the ASP.NET application is running, goes to be recycled (e.g. by web.config change) and there are no more http requests to the ASP.NET application. And now is the time when delay activity should finish and next activity in the workflow should be executed. Does it mean the next activity will not be executed until any request to the ASP.NET application because the app pool was recycled?

• Cufon delay in WordPress, Mac/Safari/FF...

  Using cufon 'manually' not the plugin.... I have a delay on many page loads in Safari and FF on the Cufon enabled headings.... http://www.budewebdesign.com/haf Tried moving Cufon higher up (eg before wp_head() and the plugin code that calls, without any real effect. Some pages no problem but others just a long enough delay to be annoying. I'm not really keen on hiding the headings before the page load completes as is suggested elsewhere. If it loads without delay some of the time, I wonder if it can be made to 'all' of the time :) My connection speed is good. Thanks for any ideas on this.

• Jquery Delay Function Calls

  I'm trying to find a way to delay all code that takes place after I make a service call. The reason for this delay is that my service returns code necesarry for the following functions and the result I pass is to these following functions is undefined. • How to communicate within a company what is being Continually Deployed

  I work for a small development company, 20 people total in the entire company, 3 in actual development, and we've adopted CD for our commits to trunk, and it works great, from a code management and up-time side. However - we're getting flak from our support staff and marketing department that they don't feel that they're getting enough lead time on new features and notifications on bug fixes that could change behavior. Part of why we love the CD system is for us in development, it's fast, we fix the bug, add the quick feature, close the Bugz and move on with our day to the next item. All members of our company are now on HipChat at all times, and when a deployment occurs, a message is sent to a room that all company members are in, letting them know what was just deployed (it just shows the commit messages from tip back to the last recorded deployment). We in development are also attempting to make sure that when we're making a change that modifies the UI or a public facing behavior, we post a screenshot to the All Company room and explain what the behavior change is, seeking pushback or concerns. Often, the response is silence. Sometimes, it's a few minor questions, but nothing that need stop the deployment from happening. What I'm wondering is how do other users of the CD method deal with notifications of new features and changes to areas of the company that are not development - and eventually on to customers in the world? • BIP 11g Dynamic SQL

  Back in the 10g release, if you wanted something beyond the standard query for your report extract; you needed to break out your favorite text editor. You gotta love 'vi' and hate emacs, am I right? And get to building a data template, they were/are lovely to write, such fun ... not! Its not fun writing them by hand but, you do get to do some cool stuff around the data extract including dynamic SQL. By that I mean the ability to add content dynamically to your your query at runtime. With 11g, we spoiled you with a visual builder, no more vi or notepad sessions, a friendly drag and drop interface allowing you to build hierarchical data sets, calculated columns, summary columns, etc. You can still create the dynamic SQL statements, its not so well documented right now, in lieu of doc updates here's the skinny. If you check out the 10g process to create dynamic sql in the docs. You need to create a data trigger function where you assign the dynamic sql to a global variable that's matched in your report SQL. In 11g, the process is really the same, BI Publisher just provides a bit more help to define what trigger code needs to be called. You still need to create the function and place it inside a package in the db. Here's a simple plsql package with the 'beforedata' function trigger. Spec create or replace PACKAGE BIREPORTS AS whereCols varchar2(2000); FUNCTION beforeReportTrig return boolean; end BIREPORTS; Body create or replace PACKAGE BODY BIREPORTS AS   FUNCTION beforeReportTrig return boolean AS   BEGIN       whereCols := ' and d.department_id = 100';     RETURN true;   END beforeReportTrig; END BIREPORTS; you'll notice the additional where clause (whereCols - declared as a public variable) is hard coded. I'll cover parameterizing that in my next post. If you can not wait, check the 10g docs for an example. I have my package compiling successfully in the db. Now, onto the BIP data model definition. 1. Create a new data model and go ahead and create your query(s) as you would normally. 2. In the query dialog box, add in the variables you want replaced at runtime using an ampersand rather than a colon e.g. &whereCols.   select     d.DEPARTMENT_NAME, ...  from    "OE"."EMPLOYEES" e,     "OE"."DEPARTMENTS" d  where   d."DEPARTMENT_ID"= e."DEPARTMENT_ID" &whereCols   Note that 'whereCols' matches the global variable name in our package. When you click OK to clear the dialog, you'll be asked for a default value for the variable, just use ' and 1=1' That leading space is important to keep the SQL valid ie required whitespace. This value will be used for the where clause if case its not set by the function code. 3. Now click on the Event Triggers tree node and create a new trigger of the type Before Data. Type in the default package name, in my example, 'BIREPORTS'. Then hit the update button to get BIP to fetch the valid functions.In my case I get to see the following: Select the BEFOREREPORTTRIG function (or your name) and shuttle it across. 4. Save your data model and now test it. For now, you can update the where clause via the plsql package. Next time ... parametrizing the dynamic clause.

  My Magic Trackpad is great for most things involving dragging and gestures, but for simple point-and-click use it is starting to get really annoying. For example, my bank has a numeric code that I need to enter from a visual grid on the screen, by clicking on the six numbers in order. To do this is quite difficult with the Magic Trackpad. Idea 1: it is because when you start dragging on the touchpad, there is a brief delay before the mouse starts to move. The delay might be enough to screw up my anticipation of where the cursor is going to go. Idea 2: it may have to do with the cursor acceleration. If I move it a little, the cursor moves a little. If I move it a lot, it goes much faster. I have tried various settings in the preference pane, and although the cursor does move more or less quickly, it doesn't seem any more or less easy to hit a given target. As I am writing this post, I tried a brief experiment -- I chose a spot on the page (the bracket in the superuser logo) and tried to move the cursor there in one quick movement. It's extremely difficult, even though I've been using Macs and touchpads since 1999. There is something about the behavior of the trackpad that is making it impossible for me to learn how to accurately predict where the cursor will end up. Does anyone else have this problem?
