  • How to set up an ethernet and wireless network using /etc/network/interfaces?

    Hi. Currently I have ethernet and wireless networks configured through a network manager (further NM) but it seems to be a bit buggy (I need a different MAC for ether which is never applied if using NM), so I would like to move all the network configs to interfaces file. I know (or can google for) configuration code, but I'm not sure how NM works and it looks like it overrides interface config. Please advice, how I can handle this issue. NOTE: I also would like to be able to locate and connect to various wireless networks but not sure how to do it.

  • How to recover from a fatal error "Allowed memory size exhausted"

    Hi everybody, Do you know any solution to recover from the PHP fatal error : "Allowed memory size ... exhausted" I have a shutdown function that is called when a fatal error appear. This function create an ErrorException from it, and logs it. The problem is : when there is no more memory available, it can't log the error (I log in Firebug, via FirePHP, with Zend Framework). So what i mean by "how to recover from it", is how to perform basic error log, and let Zend Framework send the Headers, so that the error is logged (in Firebug in my case) as any other error ? Thanks

  • Windows 2008 Server cannot access any network share

    Hello friends I run a Windows 2008 server with SP2. This server acts as a desktop alone. Recently, I switched between two networks (corporate and other) using this system. Ever since, I am unable to access any network share on the original network from where I installed and configured the desktop. The message I get is "Network path was not found". Note that I am able to access the internet and my corporate mail server. I am told this is a Vista and Windows 2008 specific problem and I have done everything I could think of: a) Deleted the second network settings from the desktop b) Installed a patch from MS that supposed took care of this problem (with MS clearly saying they had not tested this enough) c) The SP2 install was after the problem occurred and I went ahead with it in the hope that SP2 may have something that would fix this Some additional details: a) A system admin can log into this system from a remote terminal b) I cannot get into my own system using the hidden share C$ - for instance \mymachine\C$ gives me the same message as above - Network path not found c) I can log into my system remotely using mstsc d) I cannot create shares on this system - as an extension network printers are not detected I have an update for you: The error message is as follows - **Network Error** Windows cannot access \\network_share Check the spelling of the name. Otherwise there might a problem with your network. To try to identify and resolve network problems, click Diagnose. Clicking Diagnose gives Error Code: 0x80070035 The network path was not found.   • Slight network lag on Small Business Server 2008 R2

    I recently upgraded a network from a SBS 2003 server to a SBS 2008 R2 Server. Both I and users have noticed a slight delay in network applications and browsing network drives on the new server. It is minor, maybe a second or two at most. However I am wondering if anyone knows of anyway to optimize the networking to service requests sooner to the workstations. The network is running a 1 gig network with some 100 meg devices (mainly network printers). All workstations are XP SP3 Network software runs out of a shared folder mapped as a network drive, no sql databases. Server is a Dell Poweredge T610 with plenty of ram, cpu power, and storage.

  • Cannot find network path for computer in workgroup of home Windows XP PCs

    VMWare Workstation 6.5 is running as an app on a Windows Vista 64bit PC host. Thanks to Workstation we have 2 guest machines running: TerriVM and MattVM (both of these run Windows XP SP2). We are attempting to get virtual networking configured so we can access the files of both of these VM guest systems from other real PCs connected to this home network. We think we are close but we can't quite get it right... Here is what we've done so far: * On VM Workstation, we set "Host Virtual Network Mapping" to use VMnet0 with the setting "Bridge to an automatically chosen adapter". * On each VM guest (i.e. using Windows explorer on XP), we rightmouse on the C disk, click "Sharing" tab, set shareName to "C_Disk" and check both boxes labeled "Share this folder on the network" and "Allow network users to change my files". Symptoms: On "JohnsRealXP" PC, we go to Windows Explorer, My Computer, Map Network Drive, type into Folder textbox: \TerriVM\C_Disk and assign drive letter T. We see all the folders on this shared drive and can open files on them. So that is good. On same "JohnsRealXP" PC, we go to Windows Explorer, My Computer, Map Network Drive, type into Folder textbox: \MattVM\C_Disk and assign drive letter M. We get a message box "_The network path \mattvm\C_Disk could not be found_". Alternatively, we type just \mattvm\ into the Folder box and click "Browse" and get a dialog box where we drill down from "Entire Network" to "Microsoft Windows Network" to "Workgroup" where both TerriVM and MattVM are listed as computers on the network. Clicking the + sign next to MattVM gives an hourglass and never enables the OK button and I have to cancel. In summary, I think we've attempted to share both of these virtual machines using the same techniques and connect to them in similar fashion, but one connects properly and the other machine can be seen but no shared resources on it can be accessed. Can anyone suggest something possibly overlooked or something to try? Thanks so much in advance.

  • Can not access network computers anymore

    Last Thursday (03/05/12) I got a new computer to be able to work from home. I plugged it, by cable, into the company network and installed most of the software needed for me to do so, by accessing a share on my stationary computer at work. I had no issues here what so ever, and everything just worked. Yesterday evening I tried accessing the company network trough Windows VPN, and while I was able to connect to the network, I was unable to connect to any computers on the network. I did, however, get an error when connecting, but I can't seem to get the error again, to get the details of the error message. Today I am sitting on the company network again, and now I can not access anything on the network like I could last Thursday, though I can ping all the computers I am attempting to access. Here is a list of details that might help in troubleshooting this issue (updated): List of observations / actions My computer is identical to another computer that has no issues. It is not on the domain but rather on the default workgroup, but this was not an issue last Thursday, so I am assuming it still is not. I am able to access my e-mail on the exchange server. I can connect to our TFS server from Visual Studio but not from Explorer. I can also connect to Database Servers and Remote Desktop. I can see several computers when browsing network computers, but I am unable to connect to any of them. When trying to connect to a computer I am consistently met with the error code "0x80070035" (network path not found). I also get the 0x80070035 error when double clicking the target computer from the Network UI. I am not met with a login dialog when trying to access a computer, as I should, since I am not on the domain. (I did login to both Exchange, Remote Desktop and TFS though) Between Thursday where it worked and Sunday evening where it did not, I have installed quite a few security updates, plus various tools etc. that I need for programming. I have tried accessing by computer name and ip and neither of them work. I can ping by computer name. I have deleted all (1 entry) stored network credentials. I am able to access my computer from the target computer. Client and Server can see each other on the network = Network Discovery is enabled. I am using the network profile "Work". When accessing the network through VPN, I am unable to get anything to work using computernames, but all of the above applies when using IP adresses instead of computername. I run Windows 7 Home Premium on my computer. Using powershell attempting to access a share I get the following error (ComputerName and ShareName being correct values of course): PS C:\Users\MyUser> cd \\ComputerName\ShareName Set-Location : Cannot find path '\\ComputerName\ShareName' because it does not exist. At line:1 char:3 + cd <<<< \\ComputerName\ShareName + CategoryInfo : ObjectNotFound: (\\ComputerName\ShareName:String) [Set-Location], ItemNotFoundException + FullyQualifiedErrorId : PathNotFound,Microsoft.PowerShell.Commands.SetLocationCommand However, ping'ing the same machine (ping ComputerName) from powershell I get response immediately. (As mentioned in the list of observations/actions, I tried the above with the IP address again on VPN, to get the same result) Conclusion So to sum up, pretty much the only thing I can not do, is access the other computers through browsing (explorer.exe, powershell, map networkdrive, etc.), which means that I am pretty much down to, that it is unable to resolve the path somehow, when trying to connect to other computers trough browsing, though the path gets resolved perfectly using all kinds of other services. Any recommendations as to what I can try next to resolve the issue? :)

    I have to differentiate between the real addresses and the VM addresses using any Windows API. I'm using Getadaptersaddresses API to populate a list of ipaddresses for the local machine. I need to extract only the "real" addresses apart from the addresses associated with the VMware network adapter and other addresses(auto-configuration and tunnel adapter addresses) I've not been able to find any API or any flag to differentiate this. Is there any way this can be done? PS:The IfType flag in the IP_ADAPTER_ADDRESSES structure returned by Getadaptersaddresses doesn't help me differentiate between VMware addresses and the real addresses

  • Network Logon Issues with Group Policy and Network

    I am gravely in need of your help and assistance. We have a problem with our logon and startup to our Windows 7 Enterprise system. We have more than 3000 Windows Desktops situated in roughly 20+ buildings around campus. Almost every computer on campus has the problem that I will be describing. I have spent over one month peering over etl files from Windows Performance Analyzer (A great product) and hundreds of thousands of event logs. I come to you today humbled that I could not figure this out. The problem as simply put our logon times are extremely long. An average first time logon is roughly 2-10 minutes depending on the software installed. All computers are Windows 7, the oldest computers being 5 years old. Startup times on various computers range from good (1-2 minutes) to very bad (5-60). Our second time logons range from 30 seconds to 4 minutes. We have a gigabit connection between each computer on the network. We have 5 domain controllers which also double as our DNS servers. Initial testing led us to believe that this was a software problem. So I spent a few days testing machines only to find inconsistent results from the etl files from xperfview. Each subset of computers on campus had a different subset of software issues, none seeming to interfere with logon just startup. So I started looking at our group policy and located some very interesting event ID’s. Group Policy 1129: The processing of Group Policy failed because of lack of network connectivity to a domain controller. Group Policy 1055: The processing of Group Policy failed. Windows could not resolve the computer name. This could be caused by one of more of the following: a) Name Resolution failure on the current domain controller. b) Active Directory Replication Latency (an account created on another domain controller has not replicated to the current domain controller). NETLOGON 5719 : This computer was not able to set up a secure session with a domain controller in domain OURDOMAIN due to the following: There are currently no logon servers available to service the logon request. This may lead to authentication problems. Make sure that this computer is connected to the network. If the problem persists, please contact your domain administrator. E1kexpress 27: Intel®82567LM-3 Gigabit Network Connection – Network link is disconnected. NetBT 4300 – The driver could not be created.   • Network Logon Issues with Group Policy and Network

    I am gravely in need of your help and assistance. We have a problem with our logon and startup to our Windows 7 Enterprise system. We have more than 3000 Windows Desktops situated in roughly 20+ buildings around campus. Almost every computer on campus has the problem that I will be describing. I have spent over one month peering over etl files from Windows Performance Analyzer (A great product) and hundreds of thousands of event logs. I come to you today humbled that I could not figure this out. The problem as simply put our logon times are extremely long. An average first time logon is roughly 2-10 minutes depending on the software installed. All computers are Windows 7, the oldest computers being 5 years old. Startup times on various computers range from good (1-2 minutes) to very bad (5-60). Our second time logons range from 30 seconds to 4 minutes. We have a gigabit connection between each computer on the network. We have 5 domain controllers which also double as our DNS servers. Initial testing led us to believe that this was a software problem. So I spent a few days testing machines only to find inconsistent results from the etl files from xperfview. Each subset of computers on campus had a different subset of software issues, none seeming to interfere with logon just startup. So I started looking at our group policy and located some very interesting event ID’s. Group Policy 1129: The processing of Group Policy failed because of lack of network connectivity to a domain controller. Group Policy 1055: The processing of Group Policy failed. Windows could not resolve the computer name. This could be caused by one of more of the following: a) Name Resolution failure on the current domain controller. b) Active Directory Replication Latency (an account created on another domain controller has not replicated to the current domain controller). NETLOGON 5719 : This computer was not able to set up a secure session with a domain controller in domain OURDOMAIN due to the following: There are currently no logon servers available to service the logon request. This may lead to authentication problems. Make sure that this computer is connected to the network. If the problem persists, please contact your domain administrator. E1kexpress 27: Intel®82567LM-3 Gigabit Network Connection – Network link is disconnected. NetBT 4300 – The driver could not be created. I would be connecting to it's port on for example 8080 and the program should forward my request to the real host and send back the answers.   • Artificially create a connection timeout error

    I've had a bug in our software that occurs when I receive a connection timeout. These errors are very rare (usually when my connection gets dropped by our internal network). How can I generate this kind of effect artificially so I can test our software? If it matters the app is written in C++/MFC using CAsyncSocket classes. Edit: I've tried using a non-existant host, and I get the socket error: WSAEINVAL (10022) Invalid argument My next attempt was to use Alexander's suggestion of connecting to a different port, e.g. 81 (on my own server though). That worked great. Exactly the same as a dropped connection (60 second wait, then error). Thank you!

In my application I am using message boxes to display error information. try { // Something... } catch (SystemException ex) { MessageBox.Show(ex.Message, "Error", MessageBoxButtons.OK, MessageBoxIcon.Error); } This was fine at first, but as my program grows it becomes increasingly difficult to find the try-catch block where this error is generated. Is there a way to display the line of code or function in which the error was generated? I am using Microsoft Visual C# 2008 Express Edition. Thanks.
