• Monotouch UIScrollView/UIPageView with UITableView as panel

  Hi I'm building an app which is a guide to festivals. In the app I show lineups. You can see the Ui I have built for this on the video here: http://wmcstar.com/download.html The problem I have is that the scrollview/UIPageView - which does the left/right scrolling through the days, sometimes conflicts (i think) with the up/down scrolling of the days lineup UITableView and crashes. It doesn't crash if I disable scrolling - so the only way to switch between days is by selecting the day and programatically scrolling to the day rather than by using touch gestures. Has anyone else seen this behaviour? w://

So, i want to match the content of .docx file with webview as pages or put some buttons or gestures to get next page.But i unable to display text as pages in Web-View. is there any solution or suggestion to get as pages? • How to detect a Triangle gesture with kinect?

  I am trying to implement a gesture recognition system which interprets the geometric gestures user makes and draws it on screen, I have some idea of how circle can be recognized, however i have no clue how to get started with triangle recognition. the data I have is X and Y coordinates of all points the gesture passed through. I get this data by tracking right hand. I found something online called Hough Transform , which is used for detecting lines but i am not sure whether it will work for discrete collection of points, Any ideas folks?

• Why isn't WH_MOUSE hook global anymore?

  I have this global mouse hook setup in a DLL that watches for mouse gestures. Everything works perfectly but with a hook set for WH_MOUSE_LL which is a low-level hook and one that doesn't need to be in an external injectable DLL. Once I switch - to the more suitable one would say - WH_MOUSE mouse hook, everything falls apart. Once I click outside my main application (the one that installs the hook), the hook gets corrupted - ::UnhookWindowsHookEx will fail. I only found this guy saying at experts exchange: "No way, at least under Windows XP + SVP2 WH_MOUSE won't go global, you must use WH_MOUSE_LL instead." I setup the hooks correctly: in a DLL using a shared data section, posting and not sending messages from the hook proceduce. Why has this changed? And why is not documented? Anyone encountered this? Thanks! BTW: I've reverse engineered a bit the popular StrokeIt application and it uses a combination of WH_GETMESSAGE and WH_MOUSE hooks and still works on XP/Vista...

• WPF Animate a Matrix using interpolation

  I'm having a issue with my application that is using touch gestures to scale, translate and rotate my scene. I was using a TransformGroup which contained TranslateTransform, ScaleTransform and a RotateTransform but I could not get the movement correct, it always jumps and skips, so I moved to a MaxtrixTransform which I was able to use much easier to get my scene to be zoomable, rotatable and panable nicely. However, what I later found out was that you cannot animate smoothly (using interpolation) the values of a Matrix, for what reason I have no idea, but its part of the MSDN doco and the properties of the Matrix are not dependency properties anyways... Has anyone had any luck animating a matrix to make it smooth? The only idea(s) I have had is to animate a few different, custom DP which all have callbacks that I update the matrix from OR To convert the matrix to a set of Transform objects that I then animate and then afterwords convert back. Is there a smarter way to do this?

  Applications which run on mobile devices have special user interface requirements. I think Apple did a great job introducing innovative controls on the iPhone/iPod touch platform. Now, I have to design an application for the Windows Mobile platform using the .NET Compact Framework (Visual Studio 2008). I wonder if there are some commercial or open source UI control sets available which are similar to the iPhone / iPod touch UI elements: Scrolling panels based on gestures Instead of a dropdownlist: a new panel with a large list of items Sliding panels etc. I couldn't find any useful products/code. Maybe there is somebody out there with more experience who could help.

• Animating Reloading of UITableView

  I am trying to animate table rows in a UITableView in an iPhone project as I swipe across the screen to reload the data. When I disable animations and only call reloadData, table continues responding to swipe gestures. When I add animations with the reloadSections:WithRowAnimation: method, table stops responding to swipes, and only the navigation bar at the top responds to swipes. Another change is that, table starts responding to selection and I have to manually disable it again. I suspect these two issues might be related.   Hello, i have another (probably unanswered) question about map views. I have a map view inside a table view cell and i want to disable the table view scrolling if the scrolling begins in the map view. Also the zooming gesture does not function normally. It only functions if the zooming gesture is done horizontally on the iphone display. The same thing happens with swiping gestures. It only affects the map if i swipe the map area horizontally. If i swipe vertically the table view scrolls instead, and i want to disable that. Any ides how to do it?

  What's the best way to implement real time operant conditioning (supervised reward/punishment-based learning) for an agent? Should I use a neural network (and what type)? Or something else? I want the agent to be able to be trained to follow commands like a dog. The commands would be in the form of gestures on a touchscreen. I want the agent to be able to be trained to follow a path (in continuous 2D space), make behavioral changes on command (modeled by FSM state transitions), and perform sequences of actions. The agent would be in a simulated physical environment.

• Algorithm to emulate mouse movement as a human does?

  Hello I need to test a software that treats some mouse movements as "gestures". For such a task I need to emulate mouse movement from point A to point B, not in straight line, but as a real mouse moves - with curves, a bit of jaggedyness etc. Is there any available solution (algorithm/code itself, not a library/exe) that I can use? Of course I can write some simple sinusoidal math by myself, but this would be a very crude emulation of a human hand leading a mouse. Perhaps such a task has been solved already numerous times, and I can just borrow an existing code? :)

• iPhone: Going from transformed layers to jpeg

  I have a bunch of images that are transformed (using touch gestures). I want to take the transformations the user does to the images and create a jpeg from it. (ie. if a user rotates a photo to the right, I want to get a jpeg of the photo rotate to the right just as the looks on screen). This takes into account that the photo could be bigger than whats displayed on screen too (no screenshots). I'm trying to use CGContext (CGContextRotateCTM specifically) but its not been too successful. Thanks for the help.

  I've never built a game before, and I've not programmed for Android before but am looking to do so over the summer by building a game. What type of object do I use for a shape that I want the user to be able to drag around the screen for instance using touch gestures? How do I tie together the MotionEvent, View and Graphics2D to make objects drawn on screen that can be interacted with? I imagine this will use ActionListeners / Handlers but I'm a bit confused at this stage... A simple breakdown of steps would be much appreciated. Thanks

  Why do we continue to type and click away in IDEs when we could theoretically use hand gestures and speech to develop applications? Think about it - Developing a class by standing in-front of your computer, making some gesture, and yelling "CAR!". This doesn't have to strictly apply to OOP either. We have sufficient speech and image acquisition/ processing and analysis tools available to us, don't we? This seems plausible to me, but I may be overly ambitious. • Transparent Technology from Amazon

  Amazon has been making some interesting moves again, this time in the augmented humanity area.  Augmented humanity is about helping humans overcome their shortcomings using technology.  Putting a powerful smartphone in your pocket helps you in many ways like navigating streets, communicating with far off friends, and accessing information.  But the interface for smartphones is somewhat limiting and unnatural, so companies have been looking for ways to make the technology more transparent and therefore easier to use. When Apple helped us drop the stylus, we took a giant leap forward in simplicity.  Using touchscreens with intuitive gestures was part of the iPhone's original appeal.  People don't want to know that technology is there -- they just want the benefits.  So what's the next leap beyond the touchscreen to make smartphones even easier to use? Two natural ways we interact with the world around us is by using sight and voice.  Google and Apple have been using both in their mobile platforms for limited uses cases.  Nobody actually wants to type a text message, so why not just speak it?  Any if you want more information about a book, why not just snap a picture of the cover?  That's much more accurate than trying to key the title and/or author. So what's Amazon been doing?  First, Amazon released a new iPhone app called Flow that allows iPhone users to see information about products in context.  Yes, its an augmented reality app that uses the phone's camera to view products, and overlays data about the products on the screen.  For the most part it requires the barcode to be visible to correctly identify the product, but I believe it can also recognize certain logos as well.  Download the app and try it out but don't expect perfection.  Its good enough to demonstrate the concept, but its far from accurate enough.  (MobileBeat did a pretty good review.)  Extrapolate to the future and we might just have a heads-up display in our eyeglasses. The second interesting area is voice response, for which Siri is getting lots of attention.  Amazon may have purchased a voice recognition company called Yap, although the deal is not confirmed.  But it would make perfect sense, especially with the Kindle Fire in Amazon's lineup. I believe over the next 3-5 years the way in which we interact with smartphones will mature, and they will become more transparent yet more important to our daily lives.  This will, of course, impact the way we shop, making information more readily accessible than it already is.  Amazon seems to be positioning itself to be at the forefront of this trend, so we should be watching them carefully.

• Getting Started with Kinect for Windows.

  Hello folks,      Recently I got involved in a project for building a demo application for one of our customers with Kinect for Windows. Yes, something similar what Tom Cruise did in the movie Minority Report. Waving arms, moving stuff around, swipes, speech recognition, manipulating computer screens without even touching it. Pretty cool!!! The idea in the movie showed us how technology would be after 50 years from that day.   Minority Report Movie clip.           Well, that 50 years of time frame got squeezed and recently on Feb 1st 2012, Microsoft released the official Kinect for Windows SDK. That’s just 10 years from the movie release. Although, the product is in it early stages but with developer creativity and continuously improving hardware, those features shown in the movie are not very far away from becoming a reality. Soon after releasing the SDK, Microsoft again announced in March the release of its new Kinect for Windows SDK version 1.5 which is coming out in sometime May. More history about Kinect. Anyways, so for a newbie with Kinect, where would you start. Here is what I would suggest you can do. Watch the Kinect for Windows Quick start Series by Den Fernandez. Download the Kinect for Windows SDK and start playing around with the demos in it. It also comes with some basic Kinect documentation. Book: Beginning Kinect Programming with the Microsoft Kinect SDK.  | I did go through few of the chapters in this book and based on that, it does talk deeply about core Kinect concepts but in very easy to understand way. I would definitely suggest this book for any Kinect developers. I liked the way it explained the Gestures recognition in Chapter 6. Buy your Kinect device from either Amazon or NewEgg. You will get it cheaper then buying it from Microsoft Store. Personally, I love Newegg.com as I never had any order related or shipping issues with them. I always hate developing UI application but well, you would need to get your hands dirty with WPF too in order to work with Kinect. So get started with WPF concepts too. I will keep adding stuff to the list once I come across them but so far the above list would definitely get you started building your first Kinect apps. Till then Happy Kinecting…!!!!! • Android Touch Event Collision Detection

  I'm relatively new to both Java and Android, so hopefully the problem I'm having is stemming from something pretty minor that I've overlooked. I've got a (very early stage) game that I've started working on, for Android using Java. At this stage, when the user touches the screen, if they touched a point at which there is an enemy, the enemies health is decreased and they become immobile (for the current implementation at least). The issue that I'm having is that the touch detection doesn't always seem to work. I've got a testing sprite set up that goes to the eventX and eventY coordinates of the touch down event, and it always seems to collide with the enemy object. Yet, the enemy doesn't always register as being hit, and sometimes a hit is registered when the sprite indicates the touch coordinates were outside of the enemies bounding box. I realise that this probably doesn't mean much without any code, so here's what I've got so far. Be gentle, as this is literally my first attempt at something more than basic movement etc. First off, the MainGamePanel class registers the touch event, and informs the levelmanager class (which is what I set up to monitor/handle enemies) public boolean onTouchEvent(MotionEvent event) { if (event.getAction() == MotionEvent.ACTION_DOWN){ levelManager.handleActionDown((int)event.getX(), (int)event.getY()); targetX=event.getX(); targetY=event.getY(); } if (event.getAction() == MotionEvent.ACTION_MOVE) { //the gestures } if (event.getAction() == MotionEvent.ACTION_UP) { //touch was released } return true; } From there, in the levelmanager class the touch event is passed on to all of the enemies within a list array: public static void handleActionDown(int eventX,int eventY){ hit=false; for (enemy1 en : enemy1array){ en.handleActionDown(eventX, eventY); } } The rest of the collision code is handled within the enemies handleActionDown function: public void handleActionDown(int eventX, int eventY) { if(eventX>this.x-enemy1bitmap.getWidth() && eventX<this.x+enemy1bitmap.getWidth() && eventY>this.y-enemy1bitmap.getHeight() && eventY<this.x+enemy1bitmap.getHeight()){ takeDamage(1); levelmanager.setHit(); } } I should probably be using getWidth()/2 and getHeight()/2 for it to be more accurate, but I expanded the area to test this - although I've noticed no improvement. At this stage, the games detection over whether or not the enemy is hit is spotty at best. Generally it takes two or three attempts before a collision is successfully registered, even though the sprite that is being used for testing and set to the eventX and eventY coordinates always indicates that the collision should have worked.
