• Cisco 800 series won't forward port

  Hello ServerFault, I am trying to forward port 444 from my cisco router to my Web Server (192.168.0.2). As far as I can tell, my port forwarding is configured correctly, yet no traffic will pass through on port 444. • My dedicated server keeps getting very slow that it fails to load the application

  I have an application running on Windows Server 2008, running IIS 7.5, SQL Server 2008, 4GB RAM from brinkster. The problem is, every couple of days I get the same 10,000 calls that the system is very slow, and its not operating properly, then after 30 minutes of that it just fails to load. I try to access the server from the remote desktop connection but I can't access it. The only way it I can get it working again is to call the support at brinkster and have them do a manual reboot of the server. After that it works well for some time, and the it re-crashes after some time. Support over there, are not helping a lot.

• Port Forwarding a Specific Port (e.g. 22)

  I'm still confused about establishing an SSH connection (port 22) between two computers on different internal networks. For example: I am on my computer with internal IP address IIP-1, connected to my router RT-1. There are 10 IIPs connected to RT-1. I want to establish an SSH connection to IIP-3 which is connected to router RT-2. There are 10 IIPs connected to RT-2. At any time, there can be multiple SSH connections between IIPs on RT-1 and RT-2. Since I only have port 22 available, I don't know which SSH session is talking between which IIPs. I looked at a couple of similar questions but am still unclear on the solution. Thanks much, Jerry

  I am glad to announce that along with SQLAuthority.com, I will be blogging on the prominent site of SQL Server Magazine. My very first blog post there is already live; read here: Beginning SQL Server: One Step at a Time. My association with SQL Server Magazine has been quite long, I have written nearly 7 to 8 SQL Server articles for the print magazine and it has been a great experience. I used to stay in the United States at that time. I moved back to India for good, and during this process, I had put everything on hold for a while. Just like many things, “temporary” things become “permanent” – coming back to SQLMag was on hold for long time. Well, this New Year, things have changed – once again, I am back with my online presence at SQLMag.com. Everybody is a beginner at every task or activity at some point of his/her life: spelling words for the first time; learning how to drive for the first time, etc. No one is perfect at the start of any task, but every human is different. As time passes, we all develop our interests and begin to study our subject of interest. Most of us dream to get a job in the area of our study – however things change as time passes. I recently read somewhere online (I could not find the link again while writing this one) that all the successful people in various areas have never studied in the area in which they are successful. After going through a formal learning process of what we love, we refuse to stop learning, and we finally stop changing career and focus areas. We move, we dare and we progress. IT field is similar to our life. New IT professionals come to this field every day. There are two types of beginners – a) those who are associated with IT field but not familiar with other technologies, and b) those who are absolutely new to the IT field. Learning a new technology is always exciting and overwhelming for enthusiasts. I am working with database (in particular) for SQL Server for more than 7 years but I am still overwhelmed with so many things to learn. I continue to learn and I do not think that I should ever stop doing so. Just like everybody, I want to be in the race and get ahead in learning the technology. For the same, I am always looking for good guidance. I always try to find a good article, blog or book chapter, which can teach me what I really want to learn at this stage in my career and can be immensely helpful. Quite often, I prefer to read the material where the author does not judge me or assume my understanding. I like to read new concepts like a child, who takes his/her first steps of learning without any prior knowledge. Keeping my personal philosophy and preference in mind, I will be blogging on SQL Server Magazine site. I will be blogging on the beginners stuff. I will be blogging for them, who really want to start and make a mark in this area. I will be blogging for all those who have an extreme passion for learning. I am happy that this is a good start for this year. One of my resolutions is to help every beginner. It is totally possible that in future they all will grow and find the same article quite ‘easy‘ – well when that happens, it indicates the success of the article and material! Incremental crawling is scheduled at that time and few of the Timer jobs (normal timer jobs) are scheduled to run every mins / per 10mins. 2. Number of user requests are less. From SQL Server 2005 Perspective: 1. Transaction log backup is scheduled at that time 2. No other scheduled jobs are running at that time. so, how to narrow down the issue, what would be causing the sudden SQL connection increase?

• SQL SERVER – Dedicated Access Control for SQL Server Express Edition – An error occurred while obtaining the dedicated administrator connection (DAC) port.

  Recently I had faced very interesting situation. Due to some reason we were not able to login into the production server for one of client. The reason for the same was that server was very busy, we had to login into the system and bring server to normal situation. When all the attempts failed, I decided to login using Dedicated Administrator Connection (DAC). However when I attempted to connect using DAC it threw following error for me. C:\Users\pinald>sqlcmd -A -d master -S .\SQLEXPRESS Sqlcmd: Error: Microsoft SQL Server Native Client 11.0 : SQL Server Network Interfaces: An error occurred while obtaining the dedicated administrator connection (DAC) port. Make sure that SQL Browser is running, or check the error log for t he port number [xFFFFFFFF]. .Sqlcmd: Error: Microsoft SQL Server Native Client 11.0 : Login timeout expired.Sqlcmd: Error: Microsoft SQL Server Native Client 11.0 : A network-related or instance-specific error has occurred while establishing a connection to SQL Server. Server is not found or not accessible. Check if instance name is correct and if SQL Server is configured to allow remote connections. For more information see SQL Server Books Online. I was bit taken a back as I knew that my commands are correct to login and if DAC does not work, there should be some serious reason for it. When inquired further about the SQL Server version I learned that it was SQL Server Express version deployed. To conserve resources, SQL Server Express does not listen on the DAC port. There is an additional step to be done if SQL Server Express has to be used with DAC. Enable TRACEFLAG on SQL Server Express will enable the connection by DAC possible. Here is the quick methods how one can enable DAC on SQL Server Express. Go to Start >> All Program >>Microsoft SQL Server (your version) >> Configuration Tools >> SQL Server Configuration Manager. Click on SQL Server Services >> Select your SQL Server Express version >> Right Click Properties >> select Startup Parameters Once on the Startup Parameter add the Startup parameter which is TRACEFLAG -T7806. Click on OK and RESTART SQL Server Express edition. Now once again try to connect to SQL Server Express edition and it will work just fine. This is absolutely documented method on BOL and SQL Server Express needs to be restarted. • Redirecting a port to a remote server on windows

  I only have command line access to a server and I'm not allowed to disable the antivirus (which blocks netcat). What I would like to do is have a program that listens on port A and when a remote computer connects to it redirect all input/output of that socket to another server on a different port. Basically a small proxy. Is there anything that will let me do this from command line? If not I could try coding something simple that does this with C++

• Possible to get IIS on Windows Server 2008 R2 to "port-forward" port 80 for certain domains to other

  I have IIS set up on my server, but also Apache x2 (other products which comes with their own servers, cannot be integrated into IIS.) Is it possible for me to "port-forward" certain domains on port 80 (that IIS handles) to those other ports? For instance: www.vkarlsen.no - IIS svn.vkarlsen.no - port 81 on same machine teamcity.vkarlsen.no - port 82 on same machine Or do I just need to set up those domains and redirect to the correct port? I'd like the domain name and url to be transparent to the user, but perhaps that won't work. Can anyone shed some light on this?

• ubuntu server refusing connections via port forwarding

  Getting some really weird behavior from our Ubuntu server... it's behind a Verizon router firewall with port forwarding (port 8080 to port 80 on the server), and we've been having issues accessing it via this external IP. From within the network, it appears to respond normally (I can access it via web browser and SSH), but refuses connections through port forwarding (using our static external IP). The strangest thing is that it actually responds to external port-forwarded connections right after being restarted, but quickly lapses back into this pattern of refusing external connections. I'm a bit of a server newbie (I'm actually a programmer in a small startup that just lost their server ops guy, urgh) so this is all trial by fire for me. Does anyone have any advice on what could be going wrong here? Any help would be appreciated, thanks.

  We are getting this exception when we start our cluster (2 managed servers, 1 admin), we have deployed only the ears corresponding to the OBPM 10.3.1 SP1 in a weblogic 10.3. When the server cluster starts, one of the managed servers (the first to start) get overloaded and ran out of connections to the directory DB because of this repeatedly error. • Sql Server 2005 cluster - unable to rename to old server name

  We have a sql 2005 cluster on W2K8 cluster. It is a named instance say SRV1\A. Then I built a new W2K8 (with a diff cluster service name) but the same service account. Then I installed a new sql 2005 cluster say SRV2\A. Now when I bring down the sql server resources on SRV1 and try to rename SRV2\A to SRV1\A through the cluster admin, I get the error the network name already exists. I have tried bringing an old cluster and installing a new cluster with the same name and it works. Why am I not able to rename the name? Any advice would very helpful.

• Linux Port 80 to redirect to a Windows box

  I have 2 servers here at work. One is a Windows 2008 Server R2 (for safety's sake, lets use 192.168.1.100) and the other is a Fedora 14 (192.168.1.101). Currently when you hit our subdomain, x.test.com, our routers tell it to go to our Fedora box, and since Apache is installed and listening to port 80, it displays the Fedora Apache Test Page. It's obvious that I don't use port 80 for this machine, however I do use NAGIOS on it and its always nice to be able to access that from anywhere in the world. So when I want to access it, I just type x.test.com/nagios. Now here comes the dilemma.... On the Windows R2 box, we recently have installed a program that requires us to setup a web server using IIS7. Because of this application, I'm going to be creating a new subdomain called y.test.com, but since we only have 1 WAN/router, it will still get pointed to our Fedora box. That being said, it wants to use port 80 as well (or whatever port I damn well wish to assign it). So my question is: since our router is pointing to the Fedora 14 box (.101), and I want to make sure I can access NAGIOS from anywhere in the world, how do I tell Apache (httpd) to redirect port 80 to the other server (.100)? If not possible, what are my other options? I have rinetd installed on Fedora and have even tried the option 192.168.1.101 80 192.168.1.100 80 and it didn't seem to work "because port 80 was already bound" Thoughts? and Thanks!

  Disclaimer: I'm completely new to JEE/EJB and all that, so bear with me. I have a simple EJB that I can successfully deploy using JDeveloper 11g's integrated WebLogic server and a remote database connection (JDBC). I have a DataSource named "PGY2" defined in WebLogic, and I can test it successfully from the admin console. • Setting up port forwarding for web server

  This could belong on Super User, but I thought this place was more appropiate. I want to run Apache in my computer and want to make it available to the outside world to test a couple things. Apparently, I have to go into my router's (a TP-LINK TD 8910G) settings and forward port 80 to my PC's IP. So far so good. Thing is, since the router uses a web based interface and it's kind of stupid, it told me that since I was using port 80 for this, I should access its settings through port 8080. Maybe it can't detect requests coming from the LAN, I don't know. Point is, now neither port can't access the configuration, and I can't access Internet. Specifically, trying to access anything (including 192.168.1.1, the router's settings) through port 80 turns up a blank page (maybe if I had the server running in my computer I'd get something, but I don't want to risk trying, I had to reset the router and restore the settings), and port 8080 gives a "Can't establish connection" error in Firefox (and similar ones in other browsers). Is there a way to configure the router to not redirect requests coming from inside the network? I'm a beginner with this stuff, so please try to explain in a simple way. If this is more appropiate in Super User, I'm sorry.
