  • Weird vps server issue

    I have an unmanaged linux vps Ubuntu 11.10 (Oneiric Ocelot). I have LNMP installed. Also php-fpm php-apc, varnish, memcache. I have (or rather had) several live sites on it. under normal load the server uses ~700 mb memory. But since last night its using only 20mb~ memory and a lot of the services seems to be down (according to htop) I only see nginx working and mysql starts up and goes does every few minutes on a loop.     Note: OS-specific Package installer As the name suggests the installer is platform specific. It is meant for installation with a 32bit JVM only. Both SUN and JROCKIT 32 bit JDKs come bundled with "OS-specific Package installer", so no need to install the JDK in advance. There are three different ways of installing Oracle Weblogic Server: Graphical mode Console mode Silent mode For Windows: 1) Graphical mode:Installer: wls_<version>_win32.exe (E.g. wls1036_win32.exe)Steps to Install:1) Log in to the Windows system.2) Go to the directory that contains the installation program.3) Double-click the installation file.(wls1036_win32.exe)As soon as you double-click on the installation file you wold see the following screens: Once the installation preparation is complete you will see the welcome screen:  Click Next If there are existing Middleware Home Directories it will list all of them. You may either select an  existing Middleware Home Directory or create a new one. Note: It is always recommended to have one Middleware Home Directory per installation, so I'll select "Create a new Middleware Home" Click Next If you want to register for Security updates enter  your My Oracle Support credentials or else un-check the box, it will prompt to bypass click Yes and then click Next.  Click Next Again Click Next Click Next to All Users to access the Oracle Weblogic Server Installation.  Click Next ( Make sure the more then 1289.8 MB of space is available in the Middleware Home) Wait for the installation to complete.   • port forwarding with VirtualBox

    I have a virtualbox VM running ubuntu. The Ubuntu guest is running a web server which listens on port 3000 (http://127.0.0.1:3000) The host machine is windows vista. I have configured port forwarding using VBoxManage. If I query the config using VboxManage getextradata "MyMachine", I get Key: GUI/AutoresizeGuest, Value: on Key: GUI/Fullscreen, Value: off Key: GUI/LastCloseAction, Value: shutdown Key: GUI/LastWindowPostion, Value: 9,34,640,529,max Key: GUI/MiniToolBarAlignment, Value: bottom Key: GUI/MiniToolBarAutoHide, Value: off Key: GUI/SaveMountedAtRuntime, Value: yes Key: GUI/Seamless, Value: off Key: GUI/ShowMiniToolBar, Value: yes Key: VBoxInternal/Devices/pcnet/0/LUN#0/Config/guesthttp/GuestPort, Value: 3000 Key: VBoxInternal/Devices/pcnet/0/LUN#0/Config/guesthttp/HostPort, Value: 3000 Key: VBoxInternal/Devices/pcnet/0/LUN#0/Config/guesthttp/Protocol, Value: TCP This looks like it should work... However when I try to access the web server from the host machine (windows box) I dont get a response. I ran a netstat on the windows box and nothing appears to be listening on port 3000 which explains why forwrding isnt working. Note that I have already tested with my firewall switched off... The version of VirtualBox I am using is 3.1.4 Any ideas?

  • Windows Server 2003 R2 Terminal Server : Internet Explorer Enhanced Security won't disable for Users

    The Internet Explorer Enhanced Security (IEES) won't disable using the normal method of disabling it from the Add/Remove Programs/Windows components. This came to light immediately after testing. IEES was disabled after Terminal Services were installed for admin and users, and after IE8 was installed. My initial thoughts were that there was some clash between IE8 and IE6 (which is the default on 2003 R2), so I uninstalled IE8 and reverted back to IE6. The same symptoms were displayed, when a normal user logged on Internet Explorer Enhnaced Security was enforced. I then thought it could be a problem that Terminal Server wasn't recognising the removal as IEES was on when initially installed. I uninistalled the Terminal Server Componants using the server roles, and then reactivated and deavtived IEES. Windows Server 2003 R2 allows a limited number of users to connect to RDP by default, so I logged on as a normal user, and IEES was disabled. I then reinstalled Terminal Server, and logged on as a normal user. IEES was back enabled. Why is this?

Here comes the problem, I don't know how to remove the SQL Server Express edition. In the Programs and Features under Control Panel, I can't find the installation of SQL Server Express which is provided by OS in default. What I can see is only the SQL Sever 2008 Enterprise edi. Any suggestion?

  • Setting up a network e-mail server

    Hello, My boss just asked me to buy a new server for our office network. I know next to nothing about servers and networking, so I need someone to point me in the right direction. He said he wants this to be our e-mail server with a network login. I have no idea how to set up an e-mail server, especially one that sends/receives e-mail using our domain name. We use a terrible piece of order/inventory software called Mail Order Manager (MOM). Our computers currently connect to the MOM database through a networked drive. My boss would like to move away from this peer-to-peer MOM setup. The software publisher offers a SQL version of MOM, but it's way overpriced. Is there a better way to connect to these databases without using the SQL version? Finally, the server needs to be running Windows. Does this question make sense, is it possible, and can someone help me get started? Thanks!

  • Network vulnerability and port scanning services

    I'm setting up a periodic port scan and vulnerability scan for a medium-sized network implementing a customer-facing web application. The hosts run CentOS 5.4. I've used tools like Nmap and OpenVAS, but our firewall rules have special cases for connections originating from our own facilities and servers, so really the scan should be done from the outside. Rather than set up a VPS or EC2 server and configuring it with various tools, it seems like this could just be contracted out to a port and vulnerability scanning service. If they do it professionally they may be more up to date than something I set up and let run for a year... Any recommendations or experience doing this?

  • SSH Server Timeout on port 22 but not on higher port

    If I run an SSH server on my Windows 2008 server box on the default port 22 I always get Operation Timed Out on the client. If I run it on another port (say 2222) it works fine. I've opened up the firewall. Netstat shows that the server is listening on the correct port. I have used two different Windows SSH servers (freeSSHd and WinSSHD) and they both have the same result. What else could be causing the difference between running the SSH server on port 22 versus port 2222?

In SQL 2005 I would added 2 linked servers both referencing itself with different names, each point to a different table. How do I do this in SQL 2008. I've try the various providers and different parameters butto no avail. The local server is using a trusted connection so I dont need any usernames/passwords Im ideally need to set up the following linked references: DBSVR1 - mydb_master DBSVR2 - mydb_import Any light on the subject would help, I managed to do it in 2005 about 8 months ago but cant remember how, now Im in 2008!

    I just began with SQL Server 2011 Denali CTP1. The very first thing, I realized that there is no AdventureWorks Sample Database available for Denali. I quickly searched online and reached to Microsoft documentations where it provides information of the how to install (restore) AdventureWorks for SQL Server 2011 for Denali. Download the AdventureWorks from here. Run following script (replace your path of mdf file. CREATE DATABASE AdventureWorks2008R2 ON (FILENAME = 'C:\SQL 11 CTP1\CTP1\AdventureWorks2008R2_Data.mdf') FOR ATTACH_REBUILD_LOG ; When you run above script it will give you following message and you are DONE! File activation failure. The physical file name "C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL11.MSSQLSERVER\MSSQL\DATA\AdventureWorks2008R2_Log.ldf" may be incorrect. New log file 'C:\SQL 11 CTP1\CTP1\AdventureWorks2008R2_log.ldf' was created. Converting database 'AdventureWorks2008R2' from version 679 to the current version 684. Database 'AdventureWorks2008R2' running the upgrade step from version 679 to version 680. Database 'AdventureWorks2008R2' running the upgrade step from version 680 to version 681. Database 'AdventureWorks2008R2' running the upgrade step from version 681 to version 682. Database 'AdventureWorks2008R2' running the upgrade step from version 682 to version 683.   • SQL SERVER – Changing Default Installation Path for SQL Server

    Earlier I wrote a blog post about SQL SERVER – Move Database Files MDF and LDF to Another Location and in the blog post we discussed how we can change the location of the MDF and LDF files after database is already created. I had mentioned that we will discuss how to change the default location of the database. This way we do not have to change the location of the database after it is created at different locations. The ideal scenario would be to specify this default location of the database files when SQL Server Installation was performed. If you have already installed SQL Server there is an easy way to solve this problem. This will not impact any database created before the change, it will only affect the default location of the database created after the change. To change the default location of the SQL Server Installation follow the steps mentioned below: Go to Right Click on Servers >> Click on Properties >> Go to the Database Settings screen You can change the default location of the database files. All the future database created after the setting is changed will go to this new location. You can also do the same with T-SQL and here is the T-SQL code to do the same.   • General directions on developing a server side control system for JS/Canvas Action RPG

    Well, yesterday I asked on anti-cheat JS, and confirmed what I kind of already knew that it's just not possible. Now I wanna measure roughly how hard it is to implement a server side checking that is agnostic to client input, that does not mess with the game experience so much. I don't wanna waste to much resource on this matter, since it's going to be initially a single player game, that I may or would like to introduce some kind of ranking, trading system later on. I'd rather deliver better more cool game features instead. I don't wanna have to guarantee super fast server response to keep the game going lag free. I'd rather go with more loose discrete control of key variables and instances. Like store user's action on a fifo buffer on the client, and push that actions to the server gradually. I'd love to see a elegant, generic solution that I could plug into my client game logic root (not having to scatter treatments everywhere in my client js) - and have few classes on Node.js server that could handle that - without having to mirror/describe all of my game entities a second time on the server.
