• ubuntu-overlay-scrollbars set to false shows no arrows in several cases

  I'm running 12.04, and prefer the more conservative style "normal" scrollbars over the overlay scrollbars. I have set them to false in the terminal: gsettings set org.gnome.desktop.interface ubuntu-overlay-scrollbars false However after doing so, with some apps (e.g. Nautilus, Document Viewer) my scrollbars only view a vertical bar, but no arrows on the top and bottom to scroll up and down. With some programs these are shown though, for instance Gummi and Texmaker. It would make a big difference (for instance when having to scroll pdf documents containing several hundreds of pages) to have those arrows reinstated. Is there any way to make this work?

• Directing Multiple ccTLD's to 1 gTLD with a country specific subdirectory?

  We have multiple ccTLDomains and are thinking about how to best combine these into one. We want to do this to focus our link building efforts. We are running a website through which we offer a software-as-a-service. Therefore we could potentially sell to any country in the world. However, Germany is our most important market. We currently have a .com, .de, .nl. and .pl domain. All these domains have a high amount of unique content pages. What we are planning is to change everything to .com with language-based subdirectories, so .com/en/, .com/de/, etc. I have two questions concerning this issue: 1) How much of an advantage does a ccTLD have over a gTLD with country specific subdirectories in search rankings? So let’s say .de versus .com/de/? 2) How could we best redirect the visitors of our old ccTLD’s to our gTLD’s subdirectories? We would like to loose as few search engine rankings as possible. • HP 655 notebook (ubuntu 12.04) keeps consuming energy after closing the lid

  I am unable to change power settings so that when I close the lid the battery stops consuming energy. There are three options in the power settings menu: When the screen is closed: 1 Do nothing 2 Pause 3 Sleep First I could not change anything. I see all the options but I could not click on option 2 and 3. (grey text instead of black) I already made it possible to put in to sleep mode. But I can't pause (suspend) the laptop. Anyone an idea?

  While doing a test-upgrade of our Ubuntu server to 14.04, I found that the package DenyHosts is no longer available. Installing it gives following error: apt-get install denyhosts Reading package lists... Done Building dependency tree Reading state information... Done E: Unable to locate package denyhosts Apparently it has been deleted, according to launchpad. Will Denyhosts be available in the final release of Ubuntu 14.04?

• JQueryMobile - Problems with dialog boxes [closed]

  I'm programming in JQueryMobile, but I can't seem to get some things as I want. First it's good to tell I am mostly programming in a multi-page template. I have a login function in the web based app. The idea is that the user sees he's not logged in and the user can click on the button to log in. A dialog box pops up, in which the user can enter his credentials. This dialog box is in front of the previous page, in my case just index.php. The page for profile is at profile.php#profile. In this case the url for the dialog box is index.php#profile&ui-state=dialog. Don't ask me why, that's how JQueryMobile works, I guess. Anyway, after the user clicks on 'Login' in the pop-up, I want a new dialog to pop-up in which it says you are logged in and I want the content of the page behind it (index.php#profile) to refresh. Of course I want this all to move very smooth and no refreshing of the whole page, to prevent loading time and thus a blank screen for a second. In short: User not logged in Clicks on login Dialog pops up with form Clicks login New dialog pops up with 'success' (or whatever) in the same style as the previous dialog Clicks ok Page behind the dialogues has been refreshed without user noticing Also another thing that doesn't really work out for me: I can't seem to get a dialog to pop up, triggered by an action in another dialog. It just appears as a normal page.

• Mac Port error installing gsoap

• Domino nchronos.exe multiple instances causing server to die, and Sametime problems

  I've had this problem for a few months now. I thought it started when I installed the Traveller software on the server to add ActiveSync support, but I removed that and the problem still persists. Basically new instances of "nchronos.exe" keeps spawning (and not ending), so over a period of a few days the server eventually gets drowned in nchronos.exe processes, stops responding and I need to kill Domino. My process count the last time was up at about 330, and when I killed it and restarted the Domino my process count went to 160. I'm running Domino 8.5.1 with Fix Pack 2. I don't know if it's relevant, but my Domino server was also acting as a Sametime server. At around the same time that nchronos started playing up sametime also stopped working. None of my users can connect to sametime and in the domino log it keeps telling me "stpolicy.exe" has terminated. I've googled for that and tried a few things, but nothing seems to make sametime work again. Any thoughts?? Cheers, Kevin

• SharePoint Backup/Restore without stsadm

  Due to problems we found with the restore of sites/site collections using stsadm (our tasks generated from workflows were not restored), we've taken a different route for backup/restore. We plan a major customization to our SP site and want to take a backup so we can rollback in case the install fails. In our System Testing (not production) environment, we've backed up the 12 hive, the virtual dir's that the IIS points to SharePoint, and the SharePoint databases in SQL (using SQL server to do the db backups). We have custom event handlers and workflows built with Visual Studio, and deploy the dlls to the GAC as version 2 (signed and versioned in Visual Studio). So when we deploy, the GAC will contain 2 versions of the workflows - version 1 and version 2. During the deploy we use SP stsadm features to install/activate the WF's. We also go to each library and add the new, version 2 WFs. This automatically sets the version 1 WF's to "Not Allow" new instances (which is what we want) and the version 2 as active - perfect so far. When we've completed the install, we then assume a failure and attempt to restore to the same machines (SharePoint on one server, SQL on another). We start by uninstalling the version 2 WF's from the GAC, reset IIS (to clear cache of these ver. 2 WF dlls'), restore the 12-hive and virtual directory folders, then restore the SQL dbs. This is all just as manual as you read it - no stsadm here. All seems to work after our restore, it appears the restore was successful - the mods we made to column names, data changes, etc during the install are all reverted back to the original pre-install state. With one exception. When we run a workflow, it always fails and the Logs in the 12-hive indicates the WF is still trying to use the version 2 of the dll (System.IO file not found error) We think we've backed up and restored all the moving pieces of Sharepoint but we're missing something here, does anybody have any ideas why the version 2 WF dlls are still being referenced eventhough we restored all the folders and db's of SharePoint? • MySQL -- enable connection to remote server via local /tmp/mysql.sock

  Hey all, I run a shared hosting provider and we're looking to move to a High Availability (replicated across multiple datacenters) setup for our hosting. We have created a replicated MySQL setup with failover that works wonderfully, and we'd like to move all of our clients' databases to it. The only trouble is that we have many many customers, all of whom have configured their Wordpress, Drupal, etc. installations to connect to MySQL via a local socket, not to the address of the remove server. I would hate to have to go through manually and change the connection statement in all of our clients' sites. What I'd ideally love to see is a program that listens on /tmp/mysql.sock and forwards connections there to the remote server I specify. I've seen SQL Relay, but it seems to require that I hardcode all of the database names and usernames and passwords into its configuration file. This is not going to work for me because our users add new databases dynamically all of the time, and I'd rather not have to write code to updated SQLRelay's config file every time. Does anyone have an idea on how to do this? Alternatively, I'd accept idea on how to handle this at the PHP level. (i.e. redirect any attempted calls to mysql_connect() to use that hostname rather than localhost) Thanks, Kevin

• Preventing h/w RAID cards from dropping slow JBOD disks

  I'm considering buying a used SAS h/w RAID card for externally attaching HDDs to an HP ProLiant I'm setting up. However, I only require RAID functionality on some of the drives. Theoretically it should be simple to JBOD the other drives, but some of them are inexpensive SATA disks and probably cannot have TLER disabled. I'd like to know, prior to actually ordering a RAID card, whether typically RAID cards would still enforce dropping of disks that do not respond within a few seconds, even if the disk is in a JBOD, and whether there is any way to disable this. Ideally it would be nice to be able to select certain SAS ports that will be pass-through, bypassing the RAID engine entirely and just acting as an HBA for those ports. I know I could buy a separate SAS HBA but that seems like a waste of $ and is also impractical as it's a 1U server so space is extremely limited. My question then is whether the functionality I'm looking for (pass-through on certain ports or at least JBOD drives not getting themselves dropped due to slow response) is typical of proper h/w RAID cards such as PERC 5/E etc. I've browsed through the latter's manual but unfortunately, as with most user manuals, it states the obvious and doesn't state the unobvious. • Postfix relay all mail through SES except for one sending domain / address

  I'm thinking this is really really super simple, but I can't figure out what I need to do. I don't mess with Postfix much (Just let it run and do its thing) so I've got no idea where to even start with this. We have postfix currently configured to relay all mail out through SES using the code below. We need to modify this so that emails sent from one of our domains (domain.com) DO NOT go through SES. Everything else should continue to flow out through the SES connection. I'm assuming this is like a one line thing but my google skills are not helping me at all. relayhost = email-smtp.us-east-1.amazonaws.com:25 smtp_sasl_auth_enable = yes smtp_sasl_security_options = noanonymous smtp_sasl_password_maps = hash:/etc/postfix/sasl_passwd smtp_use_tls = yes smtp_tls_security_level = encrypt smtp_tls_note_starttls_offer = yes smtp_tls_CAfile = /etc/ssl/certs/ca-certificates.crt smtp_destination_concurrency_limit = 450 Update I have created sender_transport file in /etc/postfix. In it is @domain.com smtp: I then ran this through postmap and placed sender_dependent_default_transport_maps = hash:/etc/postfix/sender_transport above the above block of code and restarted postfix, but still all email is going out through SES. • jquery buttonset()

  Hi - I'm using the jquery buttonset() on a set of radio buttons (to tart them up). I'd like to be able to set the selected radio button on another user event. I've been looking into this and while I can set the selected radio button, but I cannot also (easily) update the UI to indicate what the selected radio button is. From what I can tell, I need to call this to set the radio button at index n to be checked $('input[name="transactionsRadio"]')[n].checked = true; And then do some convoluted jquery selector calls to remove the ui-state-active from one lable and apply it to the new label. Is this really the most optimal way to do this ? I had expected an equivalent method to the 'activate' method that is available for the jquery Accordian control.   Hello everybody, I'm starting on a new iPhone project, and this application mostly relies on mySQL. I have a mysql database running on my computer, and I need this application to send queries to the server to gain information. One example is creating and logging into an account. I have successfully done this on my windows vb.net application, but I know that objective c will be harder. This is basically getting text from the sql database and displaying it on the iPhone application. If someone could simply help me on that, I'll easily get started. • Is anyone else receiving a QUOTA_EXCEEDED_ERR on their iPad when accessing localStorage?

  I have a web application written in JavaScript that runs successfully on the desktop via Safari as well as on the iPhone. We are looking at porting this application to the iPad and we are running into a problem where we are seeing QUOTA_EXCEEDED_ERR when storing a relatively small amount of data within the localStorage on the device. It would need to be saved in the Documents folder of the app. I have seen the URLCache example that apple presented, but I didn't find it useful since it was an image that was being shown. • UIViewControllers - TabBarApplication - iPhone SDK

  Hello everyone, I am very new to the iPhone SDK. I need to know if in a tab bar application I need to make UIViewController classes. For example, when I make a new tab bar application there is a default FirstViewController class (.h, .m) already there. Now if I have code on the second tab, would I need to create a SecondViewController class? If not, how would I make a button on the 2nd tab, and make that button do something. I'm not really sure how to do it, because the FirstViewController works with the buttons and code, but if I make a SecondViewController, and I link everything my app crashes. If anyone could help it would be greatly appreciated. Kevin

• Displaying a DHTML layer over a Silverlight UI...

  I have a MOSS 2007 publishing site which incorporates some Silverlight components on various pages. Beyond a few areas the rest of the site is SharePoint and ASPX (i.e. standard HTML/javascript). I'm looking at incorporating a dynamic/dropdown menu to the main navigation. Unfortunately on a few of the pages the menu sits close to a Silverlight area and, when a menu is pulled down it falls "behind" the Silverlight block. Is there something simple I'm not doing or is there a limitation that Silverlight always be on top of dynamic content displayed via the rest of the HTML DOM? Any ideas? -Kevin

  Hi, My Rails webapp uses tardate's excellent authlogic_rpx gem so that users can register and sign in using their Twitter or Facebook account. Now I need to update a user Twitter or Facebook status. Which gem should I use for Twitter? and for Facebook? Or should I prefer Net::HTTP for both? • Weird ViewControllers - iPhone SDK

  Hello everyone, I have a Tab-Bar Application for this iPhone application I am making. I make a simple button on the 3rd view (3rd tab), and give it an IBAction to give an alert view. When I press build and go, everything works out fine. I go onto the 3rd tab, and I press my button. It simply crashes... Why is this happening? Everything I put in this 3rd tab crashes. I create a simple view controller, and write the class files to start over, but I keep getting the same errors.. Everything works fine on my first tab, where I originally got the first view controller.. P.S It also says Incomplete Implementation of Class 'ThirdViewController'. I don't know why its there.. If anyone can help me out here, i would greatly appreciate it. Kevin

• Get String Instead of Source - Xcode Cocoa

  Hello everyone, I have a program that will scan the contents of a website, and display it in a textbox. The problem is that it shows the html source. For example if my html code was: <html> <body> <p>Hello</p> </body> </html> instead of just showing hello, it'll show the code above... How can I get my objective c program to just read the hello, and not the html source.. I was assuming that it was the encoding when reading the website, but I might be possibly wrong.. • Cocoa - NSFileManager removeItemAtPath Not Working

  Hey there everyone, I am trying to delete a file, but somehow nsfilemanager will not allow me to do so. I do use the file in one line of code, but once that action has been ran, I want the file deleted. I have logged the error code and message and I get error code: 4 and the message: "text.txt" could not be removed Is there a way to fix this error "cleanly" (without any hacks) so that apple will accept this app onto their Mac App Store? • Weird Jquery/CSS Menu Issue

  Hey All, I have a jquery drop down menu with jquery and css to style it. However, every time you hover over the menu options and go back and forth, it seems to leave pieces of the menu left over. Any ideas where this is coming from and how to get rid of it?
