  • How do I propagate an exception thrown by croak in forked child to parent/foreground process?

    Throwing an exception via croak in a forked child process seems to print the error as a background process would. That is, it clobbers the shell prompt. If I die instead of croak, the the error message pops up as a foreground process. I've trying to find out why that is in the Carp documentation without any luck. Here's what I mean. The croak version: $ perl Wrapper.pm $ error: ... does not exist at Wrapper.pm line 624 The die version: $ perl Wrapper.pm error: ... does not exist at Wrapper.pm line 515. I tried trapping the fork and printing $@ to STDERR and exiting, but that didn't have an effect. Any ideas? I'd like to be able to use croak in this particular case.

  • Jquery html() and self closing tags

    While creating self contained elements with Jquery html() the following issue happens: $('#someId').html('<li><input type="checkbox" /></li>') will create <li><input type="checkbox"></li> It closes correctly the <li> tag but not the <input> It seems its an issue from innerHtml which is used in the html() function. I have looked everywhere and found a solution for this but the page is not available anymore as you see in: http://dev.jquery.it/ticket/3378 Anybody knows how to fix this?

    Hi, I need to call a C++ API from C#. I have been able to call the API, but the char[] parameters do not seem to be marshalling correctly.   • ZEND - Creating custom routes without overwriting the default ones

    I'm trying to create something that looks like facebook's profile URL (http://facebook.com/username). So, at first I tried something like that: $router->addRoute( 'eventName', new Zend_Controller_Router_Route( '/:eventName', array( 'module' => 'default', 'controller' => 'event', 'action' => 'detail' ) ) ); I kept getting the following error: Fatal error: Uncaught exception 'Zend_Controller_Router_Exception' with message 'eventName is not specified' in /var/desenvolvimento/padroes/zf/ZendFramework-1.12.0/library/Zend/Controller/Plugin/Broker.php on line 336 Not only I was unable to make that piece of code work, all my default routes were (obviously) overwritten. So I have, for example, stuff like "mydomain.com/admin", that was now returning the same error (as it fell in the same pattern as /:eventName). What I need to do is to create this custom route, without overwriting the default ones and actually working (dûh). I have already checked the online docs and a lot (A LOT) of stuff on google, but I didn't find anything related to the error I'm getting or how to not overwrite the default routes. I'd appreciate anything that could point me the right direction. Thanks.

  • How to pipe two CORE::system commands in a cross-platform way

    I'm writing a System::Wrapper module to abstract away from CORE::system and the qx operator. I have a serial method that attempts to connect command1's output to command2's input. I've made some progress using named pipes, but POSIX::mkfifo is not cross-platform. My specific questions: Is there an alternative to POSIX::mkfifo that is cross-platform? Win32 named pipes don't work, as you can't open those as regular files, neither do sockets, for the same reasons. The above doesn't quite work; the two threads get spawned correctly, but nothing flows across the pipe. I suppose that might have something to do with pipe deadlocking or output buffering. What throws me off is that when I run those two commands in the actual shell, everything works as expected.

The basic approach is clear: I have to threshold the image and check if a virtual object collides with the remaining foreground. Instead of implementing the physics myself, I'd like use an engine like Box2D. But how do I integrate the thresholded image into the physics engine so it is possible to interact with virtual objects?

    Hi There, I am using Myfaces and Trinidad tld's for page design. In that, I am trying to implement Dialog box which will going to open on button click with tacking some value from parent window and return result to Parent window. Now the problem is I can send value to Dialog box and also get return from dialog box successfully, but there is problem to show return value on Parent window because parent window is not reflecting that value and ask for refresh page. When I refresh page, it again open the pop up, i.e. it resending the previous request. Here is .jspx code. I have download Trinidad dialog code and try to run on local system, but it not showing any dialog box. But once I remove partialSubmit="true" attribute from comment button which shows dialog box, Then I can see dialog box. Is this attribute making an above error? I hope I have explain my problem clearly. Please...Please let me know any any kind of solution, suggestion. I have spend almost a week to resolve this issue, but.......didn't succeed.   • Debugging Tips for Skinning

Uncompress the css style classes 3. CHECK_FILE_MODIFICATION so that you see your skinning changes right away 4. View the generated CSS File   1. Firebug is your friend Install Firebug (http://getfirebug.com/layout) into Firefox and use it to view your rendered jspx page in the browser. You can select the HTML dom nodes on your page and you can see the css styles applied to each dom node.   2. Uncompress the css style classes By default the styleclasses that are rendered are compressed. You may see style classes like class="x10" and class="x2e". But in your skin css file you have styleclasses like: af|inputText::content or af|panelBox::header   It is easier for you to develop a skin and debug a skin with Firebug if you see the uncompressed styleclasses. To do this, a. open web.xml b. add   <context-param>     <param-name>org.apache.myfaces.trinidad.DISABLE_CONTENT_COMPRESSION</param-name>     <param-value>true</param-value>   </context-param> c. save d. restart the server and re-run your page.   3. CHECK_FILE_MODIFICATION so that you see your skinning changes right away   For performance sake the ADF Faces framework does not check if you skin .css file has changed on every render. But this is exactly what you want to happen when you are developing or debugging a skin. You want your changes to get noticed right away, without restarting the server.   To do this, a. open web.xml b. add   <context-param>     <description>If this parameter is true, there will be an automatic check of the modification date of your JSPs, and saved state will be discarded when JSP's change. It will also automatically check if your skinning css files have changed without you having to restart the server. This makes development easier, but adds overhead. For this reason this parameter should be set to false when your application is deployed.</description>     <param-name>org.apache.myfaces.trinidad.CHECK_FILE_MODIFICATION</param-name>     <param-value>false</param-value>   </context-param> c. save d. restart the server and re-run your page. e. from then on, you can change your skin's .css file, save it and refresh your page and you should see the changes right away   4. View the generated CSS File   There are different ways to view the generated CSS File which is your skin's css file merged in with all the skins it extends and processed and generated to the filesystem and linked to your generated html page. One way is to view it with Firebug. The problem with this approach is you might see something that is a little different than the actual css file because Firebug may do some extra processing.   • PanelGridLayout - A Layout Revolution

    With the most recent 11.1.2 patchset (11.1.2.3) there has been a lot of excitement around ADF Essentials (and rightly so), however, in all the fuss I didn't want an even more significant change to get missed - yes you read that correctly, a more significant change! I'm talking about the new panelGridLayout component, I can confidently say that this one of the most revolutionary components that we've introduced in 11g, even though it sounds rather boring. To be totally accurate, panelGrid was introduced in 11.1.2.2 but without any presence in the component palette or other design time support, so it was largely missed unless you read the release notes. However in this latest patchset it's finally front and center. Its time to explore - we (really) need to talk about layout.  Let's face it,with ADF Faces rich client, layout is a rather arcane pursuit, once you are a layout master, all bow before you, but it's more of an art than a science, and it is often, in fact, way too difficult to achieve what should (apparently) be a pretty simple. Here's a great example, it's a homework assignment I set for folks I'm teaching this stuff to:  The requirements for this layout are: The header is 80px high, the footer is 30px. These are both fixed.  The first section of the header containing the logo is 180px wide The logo is centered within the top left hand corner of the header  The title text is start aligned in the center zone of the header and will wrap if the browser window is narrowed. It should be aligned in the center of the vertical space  The about link is anchored to the right hand side of the browser with a 20px gap and again is center aligned vertically. It will move as the browser window is reduced in width. The footer has a right aligned copyright statement, again middle aligned within a 30px high footer region and with a 20px buffer to the right hand edge. It will move as the browser window is reduced in width. All remaining space is given to a central zone, which, in this case contains a panelSplitter. Expect that at some point in time you'll need a separate messages line in the center of the footer.  In the homework assigment I set I also stipulate that no inlineStyles can be used to control alignment or margins and no use of other taglibs (e.g. JSF HTML or Trinidad HTML). So, if we take this purist approach, that basic page layout (in my stock solution) requires 3 panelStretchLayouts, 5 panelGroupLayouts and 4 spacers - not including the spacer I use for the logo and the contents of the central zone splitter - phew! The point is that even a seemingly simple layout needs a bit of thinking about, particulatly when you consider strechting and browser re-size behavior. In fact, this little sample actually teaches you much of what you need to know to become vaguely competant at layouts in the framework. The underlying result of "the way things are" is that most of us reach for panelStretchLayout before even finishing the first sip of coffee as we embark on a new page design. In fact most pages you will see in any moderately complex ADF page will basically be nested panelStretchLayouts and panelGroupLayouts, sometimes many, many levels deep. So this is a problem, we've known this for some time and now we have a good solution. (I should point out that the oft-used Trinidad trh tags are not a particularly good solution as you're tie-ing yourself to an HTML table based layout in that case with a host of attendent issues in resize and bi-di behavior, but I digress.) So, tadaaa, I give to you panelGridLayout. PanelGrid, as the name suggests takes a grid like (dare I say slightly gridbag-like) approach to layout, dividing your layout into rows and colums with margins, sizing, stretch behaviour, colspans and rowspans all rolled in, all without the use of inlineStyle. As such, it provides for a much more powerful and consise way of defining a layout such as the one above that is actually simpler and much more logical to design. The basic building blocks are the panelGridLayout itself, gridRow and gridCell. Your content sits inside the cells inside the rows, all helpfully allowing both streching, valign and halign definitions without the need to nest further panelGroupLayouts. So much simpler!  If I break down the homework example above my nested comglomorate of 12 containers and spacers can be condensed down into a single panelGrid with 3 rows and 5 cell definitions (39 lines of source reduced to 24 in the case of the sample). What's more, the actual runtime representation in the browser DOM is much, much simpler, and clean, with basically one DIV per cell (Note that just because the panelGridLayout semantics looks like an HTML table does not mean that it's rendered that way!) . Another hidden benefit is the runtime cost. Because we can use a single layout to achieve much more complex geometries the client side layout code inside the browser is having to work a lot less. This will be a real benefit if your application needs to run on lower powered clients such as netbooks or tablets. So, it's time, if you're on 11.1.2.2 or above, to smile warmly at your panelStretchLayouts, wrap the blanket around it's knees and wheel it off to the Sunset Retirement Home for a well deserved rest. There's a new kid on the block and it wants to be your friend.

  • TechDays 2010 Portugal - The Day After

    Well, TechDays 2010 Portugal is over, time for a balance. I really enjoyed being a speaker, although my presentation took a lot more time than it should, it was gratifying to see so many people staying until the end. I would like to know if you've been there, and, if so, what do you think of my presentation! Feel free to send your thoughts, whatever they are.   • Ubuntu 12.04 graphics crashing when GVIM opens TEX files

    I am having a little problem everytime I open GVIM to edit *.TEX files.... the menus die, windows jiggle (maximize and minimize quickly) and I get a 'internal error ' crash report from ubuntu (12.04). It says the problem is at /usr/lib/unity/unity-panel-service. Any tips on how to solve this? It might be related to the Latex package of vim (also I get this message when I open gvim (with or without TEX files) on terminal: (gvim:5915): Gnome-WARNING **: Accessibility: failed to find module 'libgail-gnome' which is needed to make this application accessible (gvim:5915): GLib-GObject-WARNING **: cannot retrieve class for invalid (unclassed) type `' Issue is independant of theme I just checked...   • Facelet components layouts and javascript

This is more regarding best practice/style than a programming issue, but I feel like all the solutions I have thought of have been hacks at best.   • ADF Faces Skin Editor - How to Work with It

    The ODTUG Kscop11 conference was a great success with lots of sessions about FMW running in a special track. I did several sessions and labs in the conference, and I thought it might be a good idea to at least give you a taste of what you might have missed. So here is most of what I demoed in my ADF Faces Skinning session (not all though - that session was 60 minutes long, and while everyone did end up going out of the building in the middle because of a fire drill for about 5 minutes, there was other things covered in the session as well). In the demo here you'll see how to generate new images and default color scheme, how to identify a component class with Firebug, how to skin a component, how to identify the global selector of a property, how to change fonts and how to change strings. By the way, for more on ADF Skinning you should also listen to the ADF Insider seminar that Frank Nimphius recorded on skinning, it will give you better understanding of the overall skinning process. P.S. in the demo I add an entry to the web.xml file which prevent ADF Faces from compressing the HTML that is generated. The entry is for org.apache.myfaces.trinidad.DISABLE_CONTENT_COMPRESSION  and I set it to true. This is very useful when you work on creating the skin, but don't forget to un-set it before you go production.
