  • Virtual hosting in Varnish with individual vcl files for configuration

    - by Michael Sørensen
I wish to use varnish to put in front of an apache and a tomcat on the same server. Depending on the ip requested, it goes to a different backend. This works. Now for most of the sites the default varnish logic will work just fine. However for some specific sites I wish to use custom VCL code. I can test for host name and include config files for the specific domains, but this only works inside the individual methods recv etc. Is there a way to include a complete set of instructions, in one file, per domain, without having to manage separate files for subdomain_recv, subdomain_fetch etc? And preferably without running seperate instances of varnish. When I try to include a file on the "root level" of default.vcl, I get a compilation error. Best regards, Michael

  • Odd tcp deadlock under windows

    - by John Robertson
We are moving large amounts of data on a LAN and it has to happen very rapidly and reliably. Currently we use windows TCP as implemented in C++. Using large (synchronous) sends moves the data much faster than a bunch of smaller (synchronous) sends but will frequently deadlock for large gaps of time (.15 seconds) causing the overall transfer rate to plummet. This deadlock happens in very particular circumstances which makes me believe it should be preventable altogether. More importantly if we don't really know the cause we don't really know it won't happen some time with smaller sends anyway. Can anyone explain this deadlock? Deadlock description (OK, zombie-locked, it isn't dead, but for .15 or so seconds it stops, then starts again) The receiving side sends an ACK. The sending side sends a packet containing the end of a message (push flag is set) The call to socket.recv takes about .15 seconds(!) to return About the time the call returns an ACK is sent by the receiving side The the next packet from the sender is finally sent (why is it waiting? the tcp window is plenty big) The odd thing about (3) is that typically that call doesn't take much time at all and receives exactly the same amount of data. On a 2Ghz machine that's 300 million instructions worth of time. I am assuming the call doesn't (heaven forbid) wait for the received data to be acked before it returns, so the ack must be waiting for the call to return, or both must be delayed by something else. The problem NEVER happens when there is a second packet of data (part of the same message) arriving between 1 and 2. That part very clearly makes it sound like it has to do with the fact that windows TCP will not send back a no-data ACK until either a second packet arrives or a 200ms timer expires. However the delay is less than 200 ms (its more like 150 ms). The third unseemly character (and to my mind the real culprit) is (5). Send is definitely being called well before that .15 seconds is up, but the data NEVER hits the wire before that ack returns. That is the most bizarre part of this deadlock to me. Its not a tcp blockage because the TCP window is plenty big since we set SO_RCVBUF to something like 500*1460 (which is still under a meg). The data is coming in very fast (basically there is a loop spinning out data via send) so the buffer should fill almost immediately. According to msdn the buffer being full and at least one pending send should cause the data to be sent (though in another place it mentions that there various "heuristics" used in deciding when a send hits the wire). Anway, why the sender doesn't actually send more data during that .15 second pause is the most bizarre part to me. The information above was captured on the receiving side via wireshark (except of course the socket.recv return times which were logged in a text file). We tried changing the send buffer to zero and turning off Nagle on the sender (yes, I know Nagle is about not sending small packets - but we tried turning Nagle off in case that was part of the unstated "heuristics" affecting whether the message would be posted to the wire. Technically microsoft's Nagle is that a small packet isn't sent if the buffer is full and there is an outstanding ACK, so it seemed like a possibility).

To install Banshee, you must first enable the PPA on your system: 1. Open Software Sources (System->Administration->Software Sources) 2. Navigate to the "Third Party Sources" tab. 3. Click "Add" 4. Enter the APT line below that corresponds to your Ubuntu version that starts with "deb". 5. Click "Add Source" 6. Click "Close" 7. It will prompt you to reload your software cache. Click "Reload". 8. Now install the package "banshee" from Synaptic, or using the command below: sudo apt-get install banshee For those who wish to compile from trunk, add the deb-src line and then run "sudo apt-get build-dep" to install all required dependencies before starting to compile. • Added key, but still getting "gpg: Can't check signature: public key not found"

    - by gertvdijk
Trying to download Django source package using dget and the .dsc file from here. Then dget fails to verify the source, because it is missing a public key. $ dget https://launchpad.net/ubuntu... Fine, I added this key to my keyring, because I think I can trust this one: $ gpg --keyserver keyserver.ubuntu.com --recv-key 0xF2AC729A gpg: requesting key F2AC729A from hkp server keyserver.ubuntu.com gpg: key F2AC729A: "Raphaël Hertzog <[email protected]>" not changed gpg: Total number processed: 1 gpg: unchanged: 1 (well, this output is run afterwards, when it was already in my keyring) And it is really there: $ gpg --fingerprint F2AC729A pub 4096R/F2AC729A 2009-05-07 Key fingerprint = 3E4F B711 7877 F589 DBCF 06D6 E619 045D F2AC 729A uid Raphaël Hertzog <[email protected]> uid Raphaël Hertzog (Debian) <[email protected]> uid Raphaël Hertzog (Freexian SARL) <[email protected]> sub 2048R/71F23DEE 2009-05-07 But still fails for the same reason: gpg: Signature made Tue 21 Aug 2012 09:12:04 CEST using RSA key ID F2AC729A gpg: Can't check signature: public key not found I'm running all these commands as my regular user. I also tried adding this key to APT's keyring and root's keyring. Both to no avail. What am I missing here?

  • bind() fails with windows socket error 10038

    - by herrturtur
    I'm trying to write a simple program that will receive a string of max 20 characters and print that string to the screen. The code compiles, but I get a bind() failed: 10038. After looking up the error number on msdn (socket operation on nonsocket), I changed some code from int sock; to SOCKET sock which shouldn't make a difference, but one never knows. Here's the code: #include <iostream> #include <winsock2.h> #include <cstdlib> using namespace std; const int MAXPENDING = 5; const int MAX_LENGTH = 20; void DieWithError(char *errorMessage); int main(int argc, char **argv) { if(argc!=2){ cerr << "Usage: " << argv[0] << " <Port>" << endl; exit(1); } // start winsock2 library WSAData wsaData; if(WSAStartup(MAKEWORD(2,0), &wsaData)!=0){ cerr << "WSAStartup() failed" << endl; exit(1); } // create socket for incoming connections SOCKET servSock; if(servSock=socket(AF_INET, SOCK_STREAM, IPPROTO_TCP)==INVALID_SOCKET) DieWithError("socket() failed"); // construct local address structure struct sockaddr_in servAddr; memset(&servAddr, 0, sizeof(servAddr)); servAddr.sin_family = AF_INET; servAddr.sin_addr.s_addr = INADDR_ANY; servAddr.sin_port = htons(atoi(argv[1])); // bind to the local address int servAddrLen = sizeof(servAddr); if(bind(servSock, (SOCKADDR*)&servAddr, servAddrLen)==SOCKET_ERROR) DieWithError("bind() failed"); // mark the socket to listen for incoming connections if(listen(servSock, MAXPENDING)<0) DieWithError("listen() failed"); // accept incoming connections int clientSock; struct sockaddr_in clientAddr; char buffer[MAX_LENGTH]; int recvMsgSize; int clientAddrLen = sizeof(clientAddr); for(;;){ // wait for a client to connect if((clientSock=accept(servSock, (sockaddr*)&clientAddr, &clientAddrLen))<0) DieWithError("accept() failed"); // clientSock is connected to a client // BEGIN Handle client cout << "Handling client " << inet_ntoa(clientAddr.sin_addr) << endl; if((recvMsgSize = recv(clientSock, buffer, MAX_LENGTH, 0)) <0) DieWithError("recv() failed"); cout << "Word in the tubes: " << buffer << endl; closesocket(clientSock); // END Handle client } } void DieWithError(char *errorMessage) { fprintf(stderr, "%s: %d\n", errorMessage, WSAGetLastError()); exit(1); }

  • Implementing the transport layer for a SIP UAC

    - by Jonathan Henson
I have a somewhat simple, but specific, question about implementing the transport layer for a SIP UAC. Do I expect the response to a request on the same socket that I sent the request on, or do I let the UDP or TCP listener pick up the response and then route it to the correct transaction from there? The RFC does not seem to say anything on the matter. It seems that especially using UDP, which is connection-less, that I should just let the listeners pick up the response, but that seems sort of counter intuitive. Particularly, I have seen plenty of UAC implementations which do not depend on having a Listener in the transport layer. Also, most implementations I have looked at do not have the UAS receiving loop responding on the socket at all. This would tend to indicate that the client should not be expecting a reply on the socket that it sent the request on. For clarification: Suppose my transport layer consists of the following elements: TCPClient (Sends Requests for a UAC via TCP) UDPClient (Sends Requests for a UAC vid UDP) TCPSever (Loop receiving Requests and dispatching to transaction layer via TCP) UDPServer (Loop receiving Requests and dispatching to transaction layer via UDP) Obviously, the *Client sends my Requests. The question is, what receives the Response? The *Client waiting on a recv or recvfrom call on the socket it used to send the request, or the *Server? Conversely, the *Server receives my requests, What sends the Response? The *Client? doesn't this break the roles of each member a bit?

  • How to make the internal subwoofer work on an Asus G73JW?

    - by CodyLoco
I have an Asus G73JW laptop which has an internal subwoofer built-in. Currently, the system detects the internal speakers as a 2.0 system (or I can change do 4.0 is the only other option). I found a bug report here: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/alsa-driver/+bug/673051 which discusses the bug and according to them a fix was sent upstream back at the end of 2010. I would have thought this would have made it into 12.04 but I guess not? I tried following the link given at the very bottom to install the latest ALSA drivers, here: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Audio/InstallingLinuxAlsaDriverModules however I keep running into an error when trying to install: sudo apt-get install linux-alsa-driver-modules-$(uname -r) Reading package lists... • Multiple INET sockets (mulple IP's too) connected to UNIX sockets

    - by Andrew
HOST = same host all the time, accepts multiple connection. I have a dedicated server and I will buy extra IP's. Socket 1 connects to HOST:PORT, from IP-1 Socket 2 connects to HOST:PORT, from IP-1 Socket 3 connects to HOST:PORT, from IP-1 Socket 4 connects to HOST:PORT, from IP-2 Socket 5 connects to HOST:PORT, from IP-2 Socket 6 connects to HOST:PORT, from IP-2 After creating all sockets I want to access them easy as UNIX sockets from PHP. /sys/socket1 /sys/socket2 /sys/socket3 /sys/socket4 /sys/socket5 /sys/socket6 I want the sockets to work in background (like daemon) and I want to be able to connect from PHP to any of this sockets and RECV/SEND whatever I want. I saw "socat" and I think that's the solution for me, please tell me how to use socat, or how to do it other way. Thankyou!

  • Eventlet client-server

    - by johannix
I'm trying to setup a server-client interraction: Server gets a string from client Server returns data to client I got this working with socket.send and socket.recv, but was wondering how to get it working with files through socket.makefile. I've got most of the pieces working, but don't know how to force each of the pieces to read at the appropriate time. So what it looks like is happening is that both the client and server are reading on the socket at the same time. Any ideas on how to let the server complete the original read before the client starts waiting for its information? Below are the core pieces that reproduce the read lock. Server: def handle(green_socket): file_handler = green_socket.makefile('rw') print 'before server read' lines = file_handler.readlines() print "readlines: %s" % (lines) print '** Server started **' server = eventlet.listen((HOST, PORT)) pool = eventlet.GreenPool() while True: new_sock, address = server.accept() pool.spawn_n(handle, new_sock) Client: from eventlet.green import socket green_socket = eventlet.connect((HOST, PORT)) file_handler = green_socket.makefile('rw') print 'before write' file_handler.writelines('client message') file_handler.flush() print 'before client read' lines = file_handler.readlines()

    - by SoMoS
Hello, I was trying some stuff executing console applications when I found this problem handling the I/O of the ftp.exe command that everybody has into the computer. Just try this code: m_process = New Diagnostics.Process() m_process.StartInfo.FileName = "ftp.exe" m_process.StartInfo.CreateNoWindow = True m_process.StartInfo.RedirectStandardInput = True m_process.StartInfo.RedirectStandardOutput = True m_process.StartInfo.UseShellExecute = False m_process.Start() m_process.StandardInput.AutoFlush = True m_process.StandardInput.WriteLine("help") MsgBox(m_process.StandardOutput.ReadLine()) MsgBox(m_process.StandardOutput.ReadLine()) MsgBox(m_process.StandardOutput.ReadLine()) MsgBox(m_process.StandardOutput.ReadLine()) This should show you the text that ftp sends you when you do that from the command line: Los comandos se pueden abreviar. Comandos: ! delete literal prompt send ? debug ls put status append dir mdelete pwd trace ascii disconnect mdir quit type bell get mget quote user binary glob mkdir recv verbose bye hash mls remotehelp cd help mput rename close lcd open rmdir Instead of that I'm getting the first line and 3 more with garbage, after that the call to ReadLine block like if there was no data available. Any hints about that?

  • Specifying --host1 as localhost with port 8983 in autobench

In all the examples that I have seen in the autobench tutorial, --host1 is a website (such as, www.test.com). Can anyone suggest how to use localhost taking the port as 8983? Thanks, in advance.

  • HttpWebRequest socket operation during WPF binding in a property getter

    - by wpfwannabe
In a property getter of a C# class I am doing a HTTP GET using HttpWebRequest to some https address. WPF's property binding seems to choke on this. If I try to access the property in a simple method e.g. Button_Clicked, it works perfectly. If I use WPF binding to access the same property, the app seems to be blocked on a socket's recv() method indefinitely. Is it a no-no to do this sort of thing during binding? Is app in some special state during binding? Is there an easy way for me to overcome this limitation and still maintain the same basic idea?

  • Is writing to a socket an arbitrary limitation of the sendfile() syscall?

    - by Sufian
Prelude sendfile() is an extremely useful syscall for two reasons: First, it's less code than a read()/write() (or recv()/send() if you prefer that jive) loop. Second, it's faster (less syscalls, implementation may copy between devices without buffer, etc...) than the aforementioned methods. Less code. More efficient. Awesome. In UNIX, everything is (mostly) a file. This is the ugly territory from the collision of platonic theory and real-world practice. I understand that sockets are fundamentally different than files residing on some device. I haven't dug through the sources of Linux/*BSD/Darwin/whatever OS implements sendfile() to know why this specific syscall is restricted to writing to sockets (specifically, streaming sockets). I just want to know... Question What is limiting sendfile() from allowing the destination file descriptor to be something besides a socket (like a disk file, or a pipe)?

  • Go Channels in Ruby

    - by Julius Eckert
In the Go programming language, you can send Messages around using a construct called "Channels". http://golang.org/doc/effective_go.html#channels I would love to use something like that in Ruby, especially for IPC. Pseudocode of what I want: channel = Channel.new fork do 3.times{ channel.send("foo ") } exit! end Thread.new do 3.times{ channel.send("bar ") } end loop do print channel.recv end # ~> bar foo foo bar bar foo Is there any construct, library or equivalent for Ruby which works like that ? If not: What is the best way to build such an abstraction?

    - by Rami Jarrar
I'm making server that make a tcp socket and work over port range, with each port it will listen on that port for some time, then continue the rest of the code. like this:: import socket sck = socket.socket(socket.AF_INET, socket.SOCK_STREAM) sck.setsockopt(socket.SOL_SOCKET, socket.SO_REUSEADDR, 1) msg ='' ports = [x for x in xrange(4000)] while True: try: for i in ports: sck.bind(('',i)) ## sck.listen(1) ## make it just for some time and then continue this ## if there a connection do this conn, addr = sck.accept() msg = conn.recv(2048) ## do something ##if no connection continue the for loop conn.close() except KeyboardInterrupt: exit() so how i could make sck.listen(1) work just for some time ??

I am using the pickle module to read and write large amounts of data to a file. Is there anything I can do to speed this up?
