• Viewsonic Monitor Resolution - Drivers are not working

  I have Viewsonic va1716w monitor which has VGA/D-SUB video input. I bought new Motherboard Intel DH67GD which has HDMI & DVI output. I connect my motherboard to monitor using DVI to VGA connector. It's working. Yesterday I installed windows 7 OS and also installed monitor drivers(downloaded from viewsonic site - signed version) When i set display resolution to 1440 x 900. It's not setting it.it sets back to 800x600. What should i do to make resolution to 1440x900 (monitor resolution)? DVI to VGA causing this problem or i need to do any trick? Any link to download drivers Please guide me.. Thanks in advance !!

• After turning my monitor off and on, it will display only a white screen

  About a month after installing a new graphics card, I started encountering a rather frustrating problem. Namely, if I turn my monitor off for any significant length of time, then turn it back on, it displays only a white screen. Previously, restarting could fix the problem. However, after leaving the computer off last night, the problem persists. An internet search turned up this site; however, the monitor cable is not loose. As for the insides of the monitor - Well, I could poke around, but I risk making it worse if it's not the monitor. Any such instructions should be clear, detailed and include pictures. Further updates as events warrant.

• AA doesn't work due to monitor?

  I have a monitor (with TV tuner - Philips 221T1SB), native resolution of 1920x1080, but there is an Overscan in Catalyst. It says from left to right '10%' and '0%', if i set it (all the way to the left) on 10%, i get screen with black borders (you know what i mean), but if i set it to 0%, i get a filled monitor. It does make sense, but why the hell is there such an option? I never had any AA issues before, but now, with this monitor, here they go. I can't find any solution, i have only one lead = overscan, or pretty much anything with the CCC settings. Yes, i almost forgot. After a bit of trying to configure the monitor with remote, i found there is a PC channel option, few other channels, and then a HDMI option. I have monitor through HDMI, but why i get black screen when i select the PC channel? That might be another problem. I tried almost everything. Please guys, give me a hand. I don't want jaggies! • Viewsonic monitor keeps showing its on-screen menu incessantly

  Since yesterday my Viewsonic 22" monitor (VX2255wmb) keeps showing its on-screen menu incessantly, without my touching any of its buttons. The menu comes on in the centre of the screen, stays on for 8-10 seconds, disappears for a second or two, then repeats the cycle. This happens whenever there's a signal being sent to the monitor. I can't actually navigate the menu when it appears on-screen. Pressing the power button, or the Up and Down buttons on its right edge dismiss the menu, only for it to reappear again. These symptoms have appeared before, but earlier they'd stop after 5-10 mins. The power button on the monitor has always been iffy, but now it doesn't seem to be working at all--have to switch off power supply from mains when I leave my desk. Using DVI input on this monitor as my HP desktop has DVI output.

• After turning off my monitor, the computer won't display again

  If I physically turn off the monitor (DVI connection) and then turn it back on, the connection does not wake back up. The monitor enters "Power Saving" mode. I've tried unplugging the DVI cable and plugging back in, I've tried updating the video card drivers (it's Windows Vista; Windows 7 failed to install on this machine). I can use VNC to connect to the machine again, and after a reboot, the monitor works again. Does anyone have any idea?

  I am using Windows Server 2008 R2 and IIS 7.5, and am hosting multiple websites on the same webserver. Is it possible to use Performance Monitor to know on average which website is using the most resources? I've added a user-defined Data Collector Set in Performance Monitor collecting data for 1 day. However, I could not find any details which hint which website is using the most resources. Which counters are crucial to monitor websites? The generated report tells me that the top process is w3wp##1 - how can I know which website it corresponds to? I've also tried to add counters for ASP.Net Applications for all object instances, however % Managed Processor Time (estimated) is 0 at all times.

• Windows 7 changes desktop icon location when switching from External Monitor to Internal Monitor (laptop)

  I have a Windows 7 Laptop, and lately its been acting really weird with my 1080p Monitor. When I get home from school, Ill plug my screen in, and close my laptop lid (which makes the laptop treat the Monitor as the primary and only screen). However it will move my desktop icons! This also happens when I remove / unplug the screen, as shown in the pictures. I hate this, as Im the kinda person who's use to every icon being in a set spot, and so am use to their location. Its a massive hassle to try and move the icons back to their original spot. Anyone have any ideas on how to fix this? • Teamviewer: cannot control monitor 1, but can control monitor 2

  I'm using the web client of Teamviewer from my work computer trying to control my home computer. I have 2 monitors on the remote desktop, but for some reason only have control on the second monitor. When I switch to the main monitor (monitor 1), I cannot do anything and cannot even move the cursor. But I have no issues when I switch over to the second monitor (monitor 2). I used to have no issues with either, but in the past couple of months this has been causing me issues. Anyone have a suggestion? Thanks!! Also... Here is the log from the Teamviewer session. Showing me switching back and forth between the monitors. (just in case this will help). To enforce this rule, a permission is needed that can be used declaratively on the UI to hide a menu entry and programmatically in Java to check the user permission before the action is performed. Note that multiple lines of defense are what you should implement in your application development. Don't just rely on UI protection through hidden or disabled command options. To create menu protection permission for an ADF Security enable application, you choose Application | Secure | Resource Grants from the Oracle JDeveloper menu. The opened editor shows a visual representation of the jazn-data.xml file that is used at design time to define security policies and user identities for testing. An option in the Resource Grants section is to create a new Resource Type. A list of pre-defined types exists for you to create policy definitions for. Many of these pre-defined types use the ResourcePermission class. To create a custom Resource Type, for example to protect application menu functions, you click the green plus icon next to the Resource Type select list. The Create Resource Type editor that opens allows you to add a name for the resource type, a display name that is shown when granting resource permissions and a description. The ResourcePermission class name is already set. In the menu protection sample, you add the following information: Name: MenuProtection Display Name: Menu Protection Description: Permission to grant menu item permissions OK the dialog to close the resource permission creation. To create a resource policy that can be used to check user permissions at runtime, click the green plus icon in the Resources section of the Resource Grants section. In the Create Resource dialog, provide a name for the menu option you want to protect. To protect the cancel shipment menu option, create a resource with the following settings Resource Type: Menu Protection Name: Cancel Shipment Display Name: Cancel Shipment Description: Grant allows user to cancel customer good shipment   A new resource Cancel Shipmentis added to the Resources panel. Initially the resource is not granted to any user, enterprise or application role. To grant the resource, click the green plus icon in the Granted To section, select the Add Application Role option and choose one or more application roles in the opened dialog. Finally, you click the process action to define the policy. Note that permission can have multiple actions that you can grant individually to users and roles. The cancel shipment permission for example could have another action "view" defined to determine which user should see that this option exist and which users don't. To use the cancel shipment permission, select the disabled property on a command item, like af:commandMenuItem and click the arrow icon on the right. From the context menu, choose the Expression Builder entry. Expand the ADF Bindings | securityContext node and click the userGrantedResource option. Hint: You can expand the Description panel below the EL selection panel to see an example of how the grant should look like. The EL that is created needs to be manually edited to show as #{!securityContext.userGrantedResource[               'resourceName=Cancel Shipment;resourceType=MenuProtection;action=process']} OK the dialog so the permission checking EL is added as a value to the disabled property. Running the application and expanding the Shipment menu shows the Cancel Shipments menu item disabled for all users that don't have the custom menu protection resource permission granted. Note: Following the steps listed above, you create a JAAS permission and declaratively configure it for function security in an ADF application. Do you need to understand JAAS for this? No!  This is one of the benefits that you gain from using the ADF development framework. To implement multi lines of defense for your application, the action performed when clicking the enabled "Cancel Shipments" option should also check if the authenticated user is allowed to use process it. My desktop pc configuration is, - intel core i5 2400 - DH67BL Motherboard - Inbuilt motherboard graphics - No extra graphics card attached - Acer-H193HQV 18.5" Monitor - 2GB RAM - 250GB Harddisk Problem : Ubuntu can't detect my monitor and saying it Unknown. Moreover, monitor's original resolution is 1366x768 but in the list of resolution there is only 1024x768 and 800x600 are there.

• How do I turn off the laptop screen while using an external monitor?

  When I close my laptop lid, all my screens are turned off (my laptop screen and my LG M237WA monitor). I'd like to know how do I make it turn off only the laptop screen and keep the monitor on (I want that behaviour for when I want to watch a movie on my monitor and don't want any brightness coming for the laptop screen). I'm using a HP Pavilion dv4-1290br, which comes with a nVidia GeForce 8400M GTS. I'm using the nVidia driver and it's working perfectly. For my X settings, I'm using TwinView, my laptop is set to 1280x800 and my monitor to 1920x1080. I hope you guys can help me, for I couldn't find anything so far. Thank you very much.

  Is it possible to define resource references that are applicable to all EJBs in an application? Currently I have an ejb-jar.xml that looks something like this: <ejb-jar> <enterprise-beans> <session id="foo"> <!-- snip --> <resource-ref> <res-ref-name>jdbc/myDatasource</res-ref-name> <res-type>javax.sql.DataSource</res-type> <res-auth>Container</res-auth> </resource-ref> </session> <session id="bar"> <!-- snip --> <resource-ref> <res-ref-name>jdbc/myDatasource</res-ref-name> <res-type>javax.sql.DataSource</res-type> <res-auth>Container</res-auth> </resource-ref> </session> </enterprise-beans> </ejb-jar> You'll notice that both EJBs have the same resource-ref defined for both of them. Is there a way to factor this duplication out within a J2EE 1.4 application? Ideally I should be able to define the jdbc/myDatasource resource once within the application and have anything running inside that container be able to access it by doing a JNDI lookup for "java:comp/env/jdbc/myDatasource". Is there any way to accomplish this?

• Strange monitor issue - screen goes black after a few seconds

  My LCD monitor display is going black (turning off). It's a Samsung SYncMaster 2233 widescreen. I am trying to figure out if there is anything I can do about it, or if the monitor is junk. I have tried multiple computers, all have the same issue. I have tried a different vga cable, same issue. Power and video cables are tight / double checked. When I power on the monitor, the blue light turns on at the bottom. Then a second or two later the video comes up as expected and it looks fine. However, about 2-3 seconds after that, the screen goes black. The blue light is still on and solid at the bottom (blue light normally flashes when the monitor is sleeping). If I power cycle the monitor, same thing happens. With no computer connected or when I unplug the vga cable, I see the searching for signal message "digital", then the screen goes black. However it usually shows "digital" then "analog" after that and switches between the two a few times. The buttons on the side do not do anything, although they may be, I just can not see if they are or not. I can usually get the "digital" message by pressing the buttons on the side, but then it quickly goes black again. What is really strange is sometimes I can get it to work fine. I am not sure what the difference is. Last week I connected it up and it worked fine and it stayed fine for at least a week! I did not turn it off or anything, I just let the OS put the display to sleep. Then this week one morning I started having the screen going black issue again. Seems like something is either loose inside or beginning to fail. Do you think there is any hope for it? update: pushing the input select button causes the "digital" and "analog" messages to flash on the screen, but only for a few seconds then it goes black. When it was working properly, those messages would flash back and fourth for probably 10-20 seconds then a message would show saying check input signal, but now just a black screen.

• Turn off monitor (energy saving) while in text console mode (in Linux)

  How to configure Linux text console to automatically turn of the monitor after some time? And by "text console" I mean that thing that you get on ctrl+alt+F[1-6], which is what you get whenever X11 is not running. And, no, I'm not using any framebuffer console (it's a plain, good and old 80x25 text-mode). Many years ago, I was using Slackware Linux, and it used to boot up in text-mode. Then you would manually run startx after the login. Anyway, the main login "screen" was the plain text-mode console, and I remember that the monitor used to turn off (energy saving mode, indicated by a blinking LED) after some time. Now I'm using Gentoo, and I have a similar setup. The machine boots up in text-mode, and only rarely I need to run startx. I say this because this is mostly my personal Linux server, and there is no need to keep X11 running all the time. (which means: I don't want to use GDM/KDM or any other graphical login screen) But now, in this Gentoo text-mode console, the screen goes black after a while, but the monitor does not enter any energy-saving mode (the LED is always lit). • Monitor attached to motherboard is out of frequency

  I don't know if this is appropriate to ask it here in superuser. Please, just route this to appropriate stackexchange site if found unrelevant. Here's my scenario. I have bought a new motherboard (MSI 785GT-E63). I already have an old CRT monitor connected to it. After I install a linux OS to it, my monitor will display that it is: Out of frequency. Current frequency is 89Hz. The operating output of my monitor is (around) 60-70Hz. I would like to get this thing work. How can I let my CRT display properly? I was thinking of lowering down video frequency output of my motherboard, but I can't find any settings on my BIOS setup. Additional info: My monitor is attached directly to the built-in video adaptor of my motherboard. (No additional video cards) Install of OS is complete without errors. Please help.

• Dual Monitor + Virtual Desktop software (plus for cube)

  I've recently purchased another monitor, my first one being a TV and being much larger. I now sit at a desk and use my shiny new 24" LED more often, but I like to extend the desktop into the TV. The problem presented with this is to save power and the longevity of my 47" VIZIO, I try to keep it off when possible. What I'm seeking sounds very simple - If any of you have ever used Compiz or Deskspace (Yod'm) - You'll know what im referring to when I talk about a "cube." The most important functionality I'm looking for is the ability to scroll desktop contents between both displays and virtual desktops. Deskspace does and excellent job of presenting an attractive cube, but it creates a separate cube and virtual desktop space for the second extended monitor (now the TV) - Again, what I'm looking to do is scroll between virtual desktops, by passing through both monitors. The net effect of this functionality would allow me to scroll the contents of the extended monitor to the first monitor should a window get caught there without having to turn on the TV. So imagine the horizontal portion of a cube as being actual real monitors - is there anything that allows one to rotate desktops between displays?

• Configure 27" 2560x1440 for a monitor with corrupt EDID

  I am trying to get a monitor work with my Ubuntu laptop. The monitor is this cheap 27" Korean monitors which has a 2560x1440 resolution -- and nothing else. Here are some specifications of this monitor: 2560x1440 @60Hz Only one dual link DVI-D input -- no other input port (no HDMI or display port) no OSD no scalar reports corrupt EDID does 2560x1440 @60Hz, did I say that already? Anyways, the monitor works beautifully with my Ubuntu desktop which has an nVidia card with DVI output. However, I am having problem using this monitor with my laptop. After some searching around I found a few posts suggesting to use an active adaptor for mini display port, so I went and bought a mini display to dual link DVI-D adaptor.. When using this adaptor the monitor is recognized by nvidia-settings tool but with incorrect resolution information. As you can see the monitor is incorrectly recognized and there are no other resolution available to set. This post on ubuntu forums and this other post on overclock both suggest that the monitor is reporting corrupt EDID file. I have tried following their instructions, but so far I have not been able to display any image on the monitor from my laptop. The laptop I am using is an ASUS G75VW with a 1920x1080 screen. It has a VGA, an HDMI 1.4a, and a mini display port. The graphic card is an nvidia gforce gtx 660M with 2GB dedicated memory. I am running Ubuntu 12.10 on here which I upgrade from 12.04 a few weeks ago. As I said I have tried several suggestions, including specifying Modeline in xorg.conf and also linking to EDID files I found from those forum posts above. However, I am not sure if the EDID files I found are suitable for my monitor. I think the solution to my problem consist of obtaining the EDID file of my monitor and then fixing it and modifying xorg.conf to force nvidia driver to load the correct resolution. However, I am not sure what steps I need to take to do this. Here is the part of sudo xrandr --prop output that is related to this monitor: DP-1 connected 800x600+1920+0 (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) 0mm x 0mm SignalFormat: DisplayPort supported: DisplayPort ConnectorType: DisplayPort ConnectorNumber: 3 (0x00000003) _ConnectorLocation: 3 (0x00000003) 800x600 60.3*+ I was expecting to see the EDID file in this output as was mentioned in this post, but it is not there. After several hours of tweaking X configurations, I decided it was time to ask for help here. I would really appreciate if someone with experience regarding EDID and X configuration could give me a hand to solve this issue.

• Windows move to external monitor when closing lid

  I'm using Cinnamon (on 12.10) on a laptop (Compaq 6710b business model) with an external monitor. Both screens run at 1680 x 1050, the external monitor is located on the right. During normal operation everything works fine; windows open in whatever monitor my mouse pointer is when they open and I can freely drag them to the other monitor. When I close the lid of my laptop both displays shut down as expected. When I open the lid, however, the lock window opens on the external monitor and any windows that were open on the laptop screen have moved to the external monitor as well. Nothing happens between closing the lid and opening it; no suspend, powerdown, hibernate or anything, monitor stays attached; even mouse is untouched (pointer on laptop screen). Is there any way to fix it so my windows stay on whatever monitor I left them before closing the lid? Alternative solutions are welcome.

In the Memory section, I see a section called Modified (orange) The official description is: Memory whose contents must be to disk before it can be used for another purpose. But I am still confused. What kinds of memory is Modified? In which case can we say that this number of memory is Modified? Can anyone give me a specific example? Is the following guess correct? When a program want to write something into disk, it actually write the content to an IO buffer, which is in the memory. After OS flush this area of memory into disk, the memory is modified or standby?

• Huge HDD response time in Resource monitor

  Just bought all parts for a computer and put it together and installed a fresh version of windows 7. After a while, when using the computer it gets very slow, and even closing down windows can take several minutes. I started to look in the resource monitor and though I found the answer watching my hdd. The thing is that the hdd completes all tests in Seagate's SeaTools for Windows successfully. Which makes me doubt on the problem and weather I can send it in to get an replacement. Suggestions on what it could be and what I can do about it? Here a screenshoot from the resource monitor:

• Triple Monitor Setup with Nvidia and Compiz

  I have a triple monitor setup with two video cards on Ubuntu 10.04. I have the monitors and graphics cards currently setup as follows: Nvidia Geforce 210 #1 - 1920x1080 Monitor (Twinview) [Center - Monitor #1] - 1920x1080 Monitor (Twinview) [Right - Monitor #2] Nvidia Geforce 210 #2 - 1920x1080 Monitor (Separate X Screen) [Left - Monitor #3] This works fine, except when I open a program, it shows up in between monitor #1 and #2 - meaning I have to drag it to one screen before I can use the window. Gnome2's gnome-panel also does not work on the twinview setup; it spans between both monitors, but it does not redraw (ex: the clock never changes). In addition, when I maximize an application, it spans both monitors, which is not acceptable. When I enable Xinerama for my setup, gnome-panel no longer spans two monitors, and applications maximize as expected, but compiz does not work, as X11 compositing is not available. The lack of desktop compositing causes problems with dragging windows between screens (redraws take forever). Is there anything I can do to fix these issues without opting for different graphics cards?

  Using unity 11.04. I have a secondary monitor (actually two, one at home, one at work). The home twin monitor set up works perfect (Viewsonic monitor). At work, I get very buggy behaviour, such as full screen applications 'ghosting' when maximized, and other strange effects. I would like to try and completely reset the monitor configurations (not unity or compiz), before doing anything else. In 10.10 this would be accomplished: dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg

• LED Monitor brightness

  I am in the market for a new monitor. I've been looking around and it seems that the general brightness for monitors is between 250-320 cd/m2. After hours of searching, I narrowed it down to the LG W2453V-PF vs. the LG E2350V-SN The W2453V-PF is not LED backlit yet it has a brightness level of 310 cd/m2 and a response time of 2ms. The E2350V-SN, on the other hand, has a brightness level of 250 cd/m2 and a response time of 5ms but it is LED backlit. My questions are, looking at these overall specs: Which monitor is better? What makes LED backlight better? Is the LED backlight worth the decreased brightness level? Thanks! p.s. if you have any other comparable monitor suggestions (that are not samsung - I read their customer service is absolutely terrible), feel free to share. thanks!
