  I have one laptop used by one user that keeps getting the following error and is unable to log in. Trust relationship between this workstation and the primary domain has failed Can anyone help tell me what is causing this and what I can do to stop it happening. I have tried reformatting which helps for a while, I have also tried reformatting with a new name which helped for a while. This problem has not affected any other user or computer which suggests it is not a problem with the domain but I don't know what to do to stop it happening.

• Hidden Periodic Screenshots on a corporate workstation?

  Can anyone recommend something that allows us to take hidden periodic screenshots of a workstation? We have a user who we believe is abusing his computer privileges. We have our suspicions that he may be playing games, etc. We need to monitor his screen without him being aware of it. Currently, the IT Department here is using Dameware Mini Remote Control to view his login sessions. But there isn't an option to set up automatic periodic screenshots. I'm hoping to find a tool that has this option and can be centrally managed as well. Thank you for your time. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

• ssh login with multi-keys (several users) from the same workstation

  Basically, as it comes from the title, I'd like to login from my workstation to a SSH server by using different account in different shells. What I'd like to do is to backup all my account from this server to my hard drive by using rsync, but as you know rsync can get a connection if the keys have been generated. I have already an account set with key for login without pass. What I did was to generate a key on the server and then download it on my ~/.ssh folder. I tried it with another account and I chanced the name of the key. Then I download it in my ~/.ssh...but no way to get it work. I am not an expert of this stuff. If you would provide any tips or way to set it up I would really appreciate your help. Cheers

• VMware Workstation reboot 32-bit host when starting 64-bit guest

  I'm trying to start 64-bit guest (MacOSX and Windows7) on 32-bit host (Hardened Gentoo Linux, kernel 2.6.28-hardened-r9) using VMware Workstation (6.5.3.185404 and 7.0.1.227600). If VT-X disabled in BIOS, VMware refuse to start 64-bit guest (as expected). If VT-X enabled in BIOS, VMware start guest without complaining, but then, in about a second (I suppose as soon as guest try to switch on 64-bit) my host reboots (actually, it's more like reset - normal reboot procedure skipped and BIOS POST start immediately). My hardware is Core 2 Duo 6600 on ASUS P5B-Deluxe with latest stable BIOS 1101. I've power-cycled system, then enabled Vanderpool in BIOS. My CPU doesn't support Trusted Execution Technology, and there no way to disable it in BIOS. I've rebooted several times after that, sometimes with power-cycled, and ensure Vandertool is enabled in BIOS. I've also run VMware-guest64check-5.5.0-18463 tool, and it report "This host is capable of running a 64-bit guest operating system under this VMware product.". About a year ago I tried to disable hardened in kernel to ensure this isn't because of PaX/GrSecurity, but that doesn't help. I have not checked 32-bit guests with VT-X enabled yet, but without VT-X they works ok. ASUS provide "beta" BIOS updates, but according to their descriptions these updates doesn't fix this issue, so I'm not sure is it good idea to try it. My best guess now it's motherboard/BIOS bug. Any ideas?

  I need to improve my linux hosted vmware workstation for using multiple virtual machines at the same time. I feel very stupid I lost a great blog post link which I found last month (and I'm not able to find it again..) so I try to ask here if anyone can help me: This is my host (laptop): 16GB DDR3 Ram HDD Hybrid 750GB 7200 (8GB SSD Cache) Mint 15 x64 Kernel 3.9.7 swappiness set to 10 The above are the important things about the host. So, My need is the ability to run 2 or 3 VMs at the same time. The lack of performance is about the disk, The last time from that blog post I lost, I setup /tmp to be mounted ad a memory partition and in my previous installation that was good, now I'm not able to find a good solution to tweak the things. I think with 16GB o RAM there will be no problems to run multiple VMs, but whe they start to swap or use the /tmp things going bad (guest cursor going too fast after a freeze, guest freeze and so on) Anyone can help me to fit a good host tweak and configuration to get better performance? • knife on Windows inconsistently reads ~\.ssh\knife.rb on Management Workstation

  I am implementing a new instance of (Open-source v10.12) Chef in an existing environment. Currently the environment is mostly Windows, but more Linux is being introduced. I have used Chef in a previous gig, however that was a *nix-only environment. Because this is a primarily-Windows environment, my main workstation is Windows 7 (x64), and I use Powershell as my main terminal. I created a ~\.chef directory, populated with a knife.rb and my client.pem file. When I run knife client list from ~, I get the expected results. I keep my work in Dropbox just in case my laptop should fail or be stolen. When I run knife client list from the repo directory (C:\Users\waldo\Dropbox_company\projects\chef`), I get ERROR: Your private key could not be loaded from C:/home/waldo/.chef/waldog.pem Check your configuration file and ensure that your private key is readable (Note that the path is incorrect) This is the progression as I walk up the tree towards my ~ running knife client list: C:\Users\waldo\Dropbox\_company\projects\ => Above error C:\Users\waldo\Dropbox\_company\ => Above error C:\Users\waldo\Dropbox\ => It works! • Make vmware virtual machine from HDD with bad sectros

  I have a notebook with a bad HDD (it has bad sectors). I would like make a virtual disk with VMware workstation from this computer. I installed VMware Workstation & VMware vCenter Converter Standalone Client on this notebook, then I used virtualize a physical machine. It started procedure but at 38% I got this error: FAILED: An error occurred during the conversion: 'BlockLevelVolumeCloneMgr::CloneVolume: Detected a write error during the cloning of volume \WindowsBitmapDriverVolumeId=[39-06-3A-06-00-02-13-4C-1D-00-00-00]. Error: 209 (type: 1, code: 13)' I Googled it and I think it means that I have bad sectors on the HDD. How can I solve this problem and make a virtual machine from HDD with bad sectors?

Update 1: I've tried to boot vt.iso provided at http://communities.vmware.com/docs/DOC-8978 and here is it report: CPU 0: VT is enabled on this core CPU 1: VT is enabled on this core Update 2: I've just tried to boot 32-bit guests (Windows7, Ubuntu9.04 and Gentoo) using all possible virtualization modes. In Automatic, Automatic with Replay, Binary translation everything works, in Intel VT-x/EPT or AMD-V/RVI I got message "This host does not support EPT. Using software virtualization with a software MMU." and everything works. BUT in Intel VT-x or AMD-V mode all 32-bit guests reset host just like 64-bit guests! So, this issue is not specific to 64-bit guests. One more thing. Using Intel VT-x or AMD-V mode for both 32/64-bit guests my host reset right after starting VM, i.e. before VM BIOS POST and before guest even start booting. But using Intel VT-x/EPT or AMD-V/RVI VM BIOS runs ok, then 64-bit guests start booting (Windows7 completed "Loading files" progressbar), and only after that host reset.

• Strange permission errors with Windows Server 2008

  I just don't know a better way to describe my issue that is driving me nuts. I am trying to establish a test domain with virtual machines on a box that has Win7 with VMwware workstation installed. The purpouse with this domain will be so that we can try and test different situations before they go into the production network. I build a VM with WinSrv2008R2 and I am using that VM as a template to make other servers for the domain by making clones of it. Now I raise a DC with one clone and a member server with another clone - I add the server to the domain. I am following a standard procedure as always (it is not my first domain). Then I make an admin account and I am adding the admin to be a member of the Domain and Enterprise Admins group. That admin is admin with full priviledges on the DC.. no problem there. But on the other server has ... somewhat half the privileges and I cant log in via RDP. I tryed with another account. Same issues. For example (with half the privileges): I can't open the Even Viewer if I go via Start - Administrative Tools - Event Viewer. But I can open the Even Viewer via the server manager. You can notice this on the image below. I mean WTF??? I am going crazy, I haven't experienced anything similar in my three years of expertise. I already lost 3 days troubleshooting this. Could this be related with the cloning? Perhaps if I make fresh installs of WinSrv2008 there won't be any problems? I've had raised test domains as VMs on other occasions before, and there weren't any problems then. This is VMware Workstation 8. I've made clones before, on Workstation 7 it didn't had any problems. Anyone has any ideas? UPDATE: This is the info from the event log when I try to access via RDP: An account failed to log on. • How to copy only VM changes in VMware to another physical machine

  How can I use VMware Workstation to copy only changes to a VM to another physical machine, rather than recopying the entire VM every time? Can I just copy the snapshot files, if the second physical machine starts from a pristine copy of the VM? Would it be best to create a linked clone against the original VM, and then copy the linked clone directory each time? Does that even work? (I'm assuming I'll have to change the path in the VM's metadata file, since the paths will be different. I'm assuming I can't clone a linked clone w/o cloning the base.) Background: I and another developer with VMware Workstation are using VM's for systems development. I have to work from a home desktop. Transporting a multi-gigabyte VM either direction takes several hours at best. Downloading it is easiest, but that takes an hour to get it on a DMZ machine for download and then many hours to actually download.

• 7.0.1 and Photoshop openGL requirements

  Hi, I'm running Workstation 7.0.1 on a 64-bit Linux host, with a Vista guest, and the Aero theme works a treat - full marks for getting that working! However, when running Photoshop there are some operations (like interactive image rotation) that seem to require graphics support that VMWare doesn't have - attempting to do these operations returns an error that the functionality "only works with OpenGL enabled windows". It seems that it needs OpenGL 2.0 and Shader Model 3.0 which I gather are supported under Workstation 7 - do I need to put in additional settings of some kind? I've updated to the right version of VMWare Tools, and the video driver is listed as "VMWare SVGA 3D (Microsoft Corporation - WDDM)". I see that in 6.5 there was an option to switch between the beta WDDM driver and the SVGAII driver, but I assume the features of both of these would have been merged into the standard driver in 7.0?   Some time ago nearly all workstations in our team (Windows XP SP2) exhibited intermittend but frequent delays when accessing shares on the network. Typically the first access to a share which hadn't been accessed for some time resulted in a nearly frozen workstation for up to 30 seconds. Then everything started working fine again. Using TCPView from Sysinternals I saw that during this delays there was a connection to the netbios-ssn port on the file server which was in state SYN_SENT. First try: Disable NetBIOS over TCP/IP for the intranet network adapter. Problem solved, but I didn't like to manipulate our centrally managed network configuration for the intranet. Second try: Disable NetBIOS over TCP/IP only for the VMWare network adapter (VMNet1 used for host only communications). Problem solved again! My questions: Why does NetBIOS over TCP/IP on one network adapter disturb NetBIOS over TCP/IP on another network adapter? Is this problem specific to VMWare network adapters? Has anybody else seen this phenomen? Additional information: VMWare Workstation version 6.0.3 At the time I started seriously analysing the problem it was no more possible to find out what had been changed to our systems at the time the problems started.

• Can't access SQL Server 2008 from workstations, but can from server

  We have an app that can use mssql2k or 2k8. We've been using 2k but I decided to try 2k8 to compare. I installed in on our win2k3 server alongside mssql2k. In the ODBC applet on the server, I was able to set up access to 2k8, and it passes the test at the end successfully, whether I tell it to use Windows Authentication or an sql login. The latter is how the app always accessed mssql2k. The app works fine from the server, but when I try it on a workstation (winxpsp3), I get a window titled, "Microsoft SQL Server Login" that says: Connection failed: SQLState: '01000' SQL Server Error: 53 [Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][DBNETLIB]ConnectionOpen (Connect()). Connection failed: SQLState: '08001' SQL Server ERror: 17 [Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][DBNETLIB]SQL Server does not exist or access denied. Then I get the ODBC login dialog, which I can't get to login correctly (I just keep getting the same error above), even copying and pasting a password after resetting it on the server, and whether "trusted" is checked or not. "Options" is disabled. The server was straight SERVERNAME for mssql2k, but for mssql2k8 it's called SERVERNAME\mssql2008. That works on the server, why not on the workstation? (Which I'm logged in as the same person on, BTW.)

This runs fine up to 2 or 3 virtual machines (depending on the host hardware). To allow more virtual machines, we want to use more host machines. Details about the environment and applications: Host PCs are running Windows XP in a corporate intranet. VMware used is Workstation 6.5 Guests are running Windows Server 2003 All guests act as Web Servers One of the guests additionally acts as Windows File server, offering shared folders for the other guests to connect to. Restrictions: VMware guests shall not be visible from the intranet. Changes to the host PC are restricted by corporate policy. In the virtual network, no domain controller exists. All virtual machines are member of the same workgroup. Running the virtual network as NAT is possible. Port forwarding might be used if it does not conflict with ports used by the host PC. Looking for a solution, I found hints about using router or vpn software on the hosts, but without any details how to setup. (I found a similar question Sharing the network between 2 VMware hosts, but the answer was not sufficient for me.)

• Win7 VM @ ESXi Server @ VMWorkstation (Win7) - ping works only from VM -> HostOS, not vice versa

  right now I'm toying around with VM Ware stuff and not having any pcs then my laptop I decided to run an ESXi Server inside of VWmware Workstation. I was just curios to see if the server would allow to setup and run a VM. And after some tweaking there it was, working like a charm. Okay not that fast but startin' the VM from vSphere and "opening a console" gave my direct access to that VM. Now I wanted to see if I could ping the host from the VM (VM Workstation Network is set to "host only"). And it worked, at least from the VM I could ping the ESXi server and the host. From the host I am able to ping the ESXi Server but I can't ping the VM! I asked myself anyway where the VM got its ip adress from. At the DCHPs IP there is at no machine after all. I even tried to use that DHCP adress for my Host and it didn't work out. You can see my settings from the screenshot here (it's pretty wide so just a link): http://yfrog.com/n4desktopfeop The only thing that got me thinking was when I once changed the ESXi's IP from 192.168.92.137 to 192.168.0.137. I still was able to connect to the ESXi server via its new IP but when I tried to run the VM console from vSphere I got an error after a while that said "couldnt connect to 192.168.92.137:903". So vSphere connects just through a port of the ESXi server to the VM?!? Could I setup a Linux VM to use it as a DHCP that I'd at least have control over the IPs that are given. Which lowest end linux could be used for this purpose?!? Thank you for your time! :)

• NHibernate, Databinding to DataGridView, Lazy Loading, and Session managment - need advice

  My main application form (WinForms) has a DataGridView, that uses DataBinding and Fluent NHibernate to display data from a SQLite database. This form is open for the entire time the application is running. For performance reasons, I set the convention DefaultLazy.Always() for all DB access. So far, the only way I've found to make this work is to keep a Session (let's call it MainSession) open all the time for the main form, so NHibernate can lazy load new data as the user navigates with the grid. Another part of the application can run in the background, and Save to the DB. Currently, (after considerable struggle), my approach is to call MainSession.Disconnect(), create a disposable Session for each Save, and MainSession.Reconnect() after finishing the Save. Otherwise SQLite will throw "The database file is locked" exceptions. This seems to be working well so far, but past experience has made me nervous about keeping a session open for a long time (I ran into performance problems when I tried to use a single session for both Saves and Loads - the cache filled up, and bogged down everything - see http://stackoverflow.com/questions/2526675/commit-is-very-slow-in-my-nhibernate-sqlite-project). So, my question - is this a good approach, or am I looking at problems down the road? If it's a bad approach, what are the alternatives? I've considered opening and closing my main session whenever the user navigates with the grid, but it's not obvious to me how I would do that - hook every event from the grid that could possibly cause a lazy load? I have the nagging feeling that trying to manage my own sessions this way is fundamentally the wrong approach, but it's not obvious what the right one is.

  I have a module that manages timers in my aplication. This class has basibly three functions: Instance of ACE_Reactor is used internally by the module to manage the timers. schedule timer - calls ACE_Reactor::schedule_timer(). One of the arguments is a callback, called upon timer experation. cancel timer - calls ACE_Reactor::cancel_timer() The reactor executed in private timer of execution, so schedule/cancel and timeout callback are executed in different threads. ACE_Reactor::schedule_timer() receives a heap allocatec structure ( arg argument). This structure later deleted when canceling timer or when timeout handler is called. But since cancel and timeout handler are executed in different threads it looks like there's cases that the structure is deleted twice. Isn't it responsibility of reactor to ensure that timer is canceled when timeout handler is called?
