  • Jquery conditionals, window locations, and viewdata. Oh my!

    I have one last thing left on a project and its a doozy. Not only is this my first web application, but its the first app i used Jquery, CSS and MVC. I have no idea on how to proceed with this. What i am trying to do is: In my controller, a waste item is validated, and based on the results one of these things can happen. The validation is completed, nothing bad happens, which sets ViewData["FailedWasteId"] to -9999. Its a new waste item and the validation did not pass, which sets ViewData["FailedWasteId"] to 0. Its an existing waste item and the validation did not pass, which sets ViewData["FailedWasteId"] to the id of the waste item. This ViewData["FailedWasteId"] is set on page load using <%=Html.Hidden("wFailId", int.Parse(ViewData["WasteFailID"].ToString()))%> When the validations do not pass, then the page zooms (by window.location) to an invisible div, opens the invisible div etc. Hopefully my intentions are clear with this poor attempt at jquery. The new waste div is and the existing item divs are dynamically generated (this i know works) " So my question here is... Help? I cant even get the data to parse correctly, nor can i even get the conditionals to work.   • Changing website favicon dynamically

    I have a web application that's branded according to the user that's currently logged in. I'd like to change the favicon of the page to be the logo of the private label, but I'm unable to find any code or any examples of how to do this. Has anybody successfully done this before? I'm picturing having a dozen icons in a folder, and the reference to which favicon.ico file to use is just generated dynamically along with the HTML page. Thoughts?

  • POST to a webpage from C# app

    I've been looking/asking around and can't seem to figure this one out. I have a C# application and need to be able to gather some data in the app, pop open a web browser and POST some data to it. I can POST to the site from within the app fine and I can obviously pop open IE to a certain link but I can't do both. I can't POST to that link directly.   • Index out of range, but why?

    I have a gridview, and i have a SelectedIndexChanged event on it... protected void GridView1_SelectedIndexChanged(object sender, EventArgs e) { GridViewRow Row = GridView1.SelectedRow; //do some stuff } Then i get an error... Index was out of range. Must be non-negative and less than the size of the collection.   • Client side validation script dissapears with $.ajax()

    In my javascript file I'm getting the content of a partial with the following call: $.ajax({ type: "GET", url: value.href.replace(actionType, actionType + 'Partial'), dataType: "html", success: function(result) { $("#DepartmentsAction").html(result); alert(result); } }); Because the partial has the call Html.EnableClientValidation() the resulting html has a static script in it. In the result variable in the ajax call this script is present. In the page where the html gets inserted (#DepartmentsAction) the script has dissapeared. What am I doing wrong?

  • Image on mouseover takes space on PageLoad.

    Hello, I am trying to show an image on Mouseover and hide it on Mouseout. I am successful in mouseover and mouseout but the image is actually taking the space around the text though i have visibility as hidden.. The text is surrounded with the space of image but the image is displayed on mouseover.   • How to calculate how many lines (or records) can fit in the given page size

    My problem is to calculate the data (string) that can fit into the given page size (in inches). I have an application which creates plain vanilla HTML report without using any reporting controls. Now I have to provide paging support in this report. the report is dynamic in nature i.e. columns are decided at run time. Depending upon the page width, I want to wrap columns in multiple lines. For example, if the page width is 8", i want to fit only first 'n' columns in first line and rest columns can be displayed in second line (or more lines if required). For this I need to calculate how much data can fit in a 8" wide line. Similarly, I want to calculate the height of data that can fit into the given height of page. To summarize, how can I calculate how much data can fit into the given page size in inches. Note: The calculation should also consider the font as it is decided at run time.

As I understand it, the cookie is encrypted and used to identify a user on each request. I'm curious whether it should affect the design of the primary key on my Users table in my database, eg. Guid vs int or a unique username string.

After a bit of research, i had to come to the conclusion that the event is fired before the controls are initialized... Is there any way to prevent such behavior / to override the page lifecycle somehow? I cannot initialize the user controls in the page's Init-event, because i have to access the Session-Store (not initialized in Page_Init). Any advice is welcome... EDIT: Since we hold all criteria informations in the storage backend (including the count of criteria) and that store uses the userid from the session, we cannot use Page_Init... just for clarification EDIT #2: I managed to get past some of the problems. Since i'm now using simple types, im able to bind all the data declaratively (using a repeater with a simple ItemTemplate). It is bound to the control, they are rendered in correct fashion. On Postback, all the data is rebound to the user control, data is available in the OnDataBinding and OnLoad events, everything looks fine. But as soon it enters the real event (bound to the button control of the user control), all field values are lost somehow... Does anybody know, how the page lifecycle continues to process the request after Databinding/Loading ? I'm going crazy about this issue...

    I'm using the Linq to Entities. I've got my main table, Employee setup with a field named vendorID. Vendor ID is a foreign key into the Vendors table. As it is right now, the Employee object does not directly expose the vendorID. Instead, I can only access it this way: var employee = (from e in context.Employees.Include("tbl_vendors") where e.employeeID = 1 select e).FirstOrDefault(); //this gets the vendor ID int vendorID = employee.tbl_vendors.vendorID; That is just fine and dandy, but it is extra work on the database because it is forcing a join where none is needed. Is there a way to get that key value without being forced to do a join to the tbl_vendors table?
