  • Log4net rollingfile appender skipping every other day in asp.net mvc app

    - by tasty_spider_men
    Hi, I've set up some log4net logging on an asp.net mvc application i've had running for a little over a month now. I've set up rolling file (and smtp) appender on it. The application is hit several thousand times a day - alot of actions are logged. On top of these a number of batch jobs are run as part of the application that also write to the log. Now - as i've been occupied with other work, i've not attended to this application much assuming things to be working based on my test setup. Unfortunately i discover that the rolling file appender on my production server seems to be skipping every other day. Ie i have logs : 10/4/2010, 10/4/2010.1, 10/4/2010.2, 12/4/2010, 12/4/2010.1 , 14/4/2010, 14/4/2010.1 etc. Any idea what could be causing this? It is absolutely impossible that there has no action on these odd days for the lifetime of the application. Cheers

  • malloc hangs in Linux

    - by Rahul
    I am using Linux on a 16 G with 2 quad core CPU. There are 8 processes which are doing some work (CPU intensive/network i/o). Out of which 4 have a memory leak (These are test conditions so no problem in having leaks here). Total space is occupied by all processes is around 15.4 G only 200 MB is free in system. Things are fine for some hours. But after that malloc hangs (for a process which doesn't have a memory leak). Its stuck for for more than 4 minutes (Note CPU is not 100% but io has gone up signficantly). Now there is no problem in the hanged process. (It has not corrupted the memory). What malloc is doing? (is it tryibg to defragment or builidng up swap space).I am using SUSE 10. Any pointers?

  • JavaScript - Multiple signals received after click

    - by Angelo A
    I'm creating a webapp using jQueryMobile. When I'm using the app and I click a button it runs the script multiple times. For example: I have a submit button: <input type="submit" id="login-normal" value="Login" /> And I have this JavaScript for debugging on which this error occurs: $("input#login-normal").live('click',function() { console.log("Test"); }); On the very first click it works (and it goes to another screen for example), but when I go back to that screen and I click again, it outputs multiple console.logs

  • How to assess the risk of a java version upgrade?

    - by Roy Tang
    I'm being asked to assess whether we can safely upgrade the java version on one of our production-deployed webapps. The codebase is fairly large and we want to avoid having to regression test everything (no automated tests sadly), but we've already encountered at least one problem during some manual testing (XmlStringReader.getLocalName now throws an IllegalStateExeption when it just used to return null) and higher-ups are pretty nervous about the upgrade. The current suggested approach is to do a source compare of the JDK sources for each version and assess those changes to see which ones might have impact, but it seems there's a lot of changes to go through (and as mentioned the codebase is kinda large). Is it safe and easier to just review the java version changes for each version? Or is there an easier way to conduct this assessment? Edit: I forgot to mention the version upgrade being considered is a minor version upgrade, i.e. 1.6.10 to 1.6.33

  • Large number of tables and Hibernate memory consumption

    - by Vedran
    I'm working on a large ERP project which has database model with about 2100 tables. With "only" 500 tables mapped with Hibernate, application deployed on the web server takes about 3GB of working memory. Is there any way to reduce Hibernate's metamodel memory footprint when using that many tables in one persistence unit? Or should I just give up on ORMs and go with plain old JDBC (or even jOOQ)? Right now I'm using Hibernate 4.1.8, Spring 3.1.3, JBoss AS 7.1 and working with MSSQL database. Edit: JavaMelody memory histogram output - with 2000 generated test tables that are a bit smaller in scope from the original db model (hence 'only' 1.3GB of spent memory)

    I am using the jquery tabs . It shows up fine in Safari and firefox, however it will not load correct in IE. They show up as bullet points in stead of tabs. Here is an example of a page http://www.pianoandkeyboardshoponline.co.uk/Test/detailed_page.php?pro duct_id=302-Casio-CDP120-Digital-Piano-in-Black <script type="text/javascript"> $(function() { $("#jQueryTabs").tabs()({ event:"click", collapsible: false, selected:'0', fx: { opacity: 'none', duration: 1 } }).tabs( "none" , 1 , false ); }); </script> When I refresh the page the tabs show up, however I want them to show up correct when the page is loaded. • HTML5 Canvas compositing question (source-in)

    - by Alex Ciarlillo
    I am trying to recreate a page flipping type animation in HTML5 using canvas. The animation is based on ideas from here: hxxp://oreilly.com/javascript/archive/flashhacks.html but thats not really important. The problem I am having is that using the 'source-in' composite operation is not giving me the results I expect and would like clarification as to why. Here is the example: (i think it can only be viewed in chrome, not working in FF 3.6) http://acpound.fylez.com/test/example.html The black rectangle is supposed to act as a 'mask' for the page being turned over. All I want to see is the turning page in the areas where it overlaps the mask. The problem is the entire black rectangle is drawn, not just the area where they overlap. The source is all on the page. I know HTML5 isn't really being used yet, I'm just experimenting for my personal site and curiosity. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

  • Git: Stage into Commit, what is the right workflow?

    - by Lukasz Lew
    I just created a big piece of code I want to commit in several separate commits. So I can stage relevant parts, commit, stage, commit, ... and so on until I have all my changes commited. The missing part is how can I test whether I split the commit correcty. I.e. whether the part that is in staging area at least compiles? To do that I must somehow bring my work tree to be in sync with index (staging area) without losing the changes to be committed later. What is the right way to do it? What is the quickest way to do it? Update: How to do it with magit?

  • Why are there performance differences when a SQL function is called from .Net app vs when the same c

    - by Dan Snell
    We are having a problem in our test and dev environments with a function that runs quite slowly at times when called from an .Net Application. When we call this function directly from management studio it works fine. Here are the differences when they are profiled: From the Application: CPU: 906 Reads: 61853 Writes: 0 Duration: 926 From SSMS: CPU: 15 Reads: 11243 Writes: 0 Duration: 31 Now we have determined that when we recompile the function the performance returns to what we are expecting and the performance profile when run from the application matches that of what we get when we run it from SSMS. It will start slowing down again at what appear to random intervals. We have not seen this in prod but they may be in part because everything is recompiled there on a weekly basis. So what might cause this sort of behavior?

  • Segfault when calling a method c++

    - by shuttle87
    I am fairly new to c++ and I am a bit stumped by this problem. I am trying to assign a variable from a call to a method in another class but it always segfaults. My code compiles with no warnings and I have checked that all variables are correct in gdb but the function call itself seems to cause a segfault. The code I am using is roughly like the following: class History{ public: bool test_history(); }; bool History::test_history(){ std::cout<<"test"; //this line never gets executed //more code goes in here return true; } class Game{ private: bool some_function(); public: History game_actions_history; bool local_variable; }; bool Game::some_function(){ local_variable = game_actions_history.test_history(); if (local_variable == true){ return true; } else{ return false; } } Any tips or advice is greatly appreciated!

  • phpMyAdmin Cron to Delete Temporary Files

    - by JoeC
    I have a folder on my hosting which I periodically upload something to - /public_html/uploads - and I'd like to set up a cronjob through phpMyAdmin to empty it out on a regular basis. The current cron I have in pMA is find /public_html/uploads -maxdepth 1 -ctime 1 -exec rm -f {} \; (Ignore the fact that it's running every minute for now, it's so I can test it :) ) I know very little about what this command is actually doing, but it looks like "not very much". Can anyone help me fix it? :) Thanks.

  • Why do I get corrupt output on my file?

    - by Martin
    I have a simple program which I have compiled in both MinGW and Visual C++ 2008 Express, and both give an output file larger than 88200. When I set s = 0, both programs work as expected. What am I doing wrong? #include <fstream> using namespace std; int main(int argc, char *argv[]) { int i; short s; fstream f; f.open("test.raw", ios_base::out); for(i = 0; i < 44100; i++) { s = i & 0xFFFF; // PROBLEM? f.write(reinterpret_cast<const char *>(&s), sizeof(s)); } f.close(); return 0; }

  • Searching within an array of strings...

    - by SoLoGHoST
    Ok, I'm feeling retarded here, I have a string like so: $string = 'function module_testing{'; or it could be like this: $string = 'function module_testing'; And than I have an array of strings like so: $string_array = array('module_testing', 'another_function', 'and_another_function'); Now, is there some sort of preg_match that I can do to test if any of the $string_array values are found within the $string string at any given position? So in this situation, there would be a match. Or is there a better way to do this? I can't use in_array since it's not an exact match, and I'd rather not do a foreach loop on it if I can help it, since it's already in a while loop. Thanks :)

  • Boost::asio bug in MSVC10 - Failing BOOST_WORKAROUND in ~buffer_debug_check() in buffer.hpp

    - by shaz
    A straight compilation of example http://www.boost.org/doc/libs/1_43_0/doc/html/boost_asio/tutorial/tutdaytime3/src.html results in a runtime null pointer exception. Stack trace points to the buffer_debug_check destructor which contains this comment: // MSVC's string iterator checking may crash in a std::string::iterator // object's destructor when the iterator points to an already-destroyed // std::string object, unless the iterator is cleared first. The test #if BOOST_WORKAROUND(BOOST_MSVC, = 1400) succeeds in MSVC10 and (but) results in a null pointer exception in c:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Visual Studio 10.0\VC\include\xutility line 123 _Iterator_base12& operator=(const _Iterator_base12& _Right) { // assign an iterator if (_Myproxy != _Right._Myproxy) _Adopt(_Right._Myproxy->_Mycont); return (*this); } _Right._Myproxy is NULL

  • Is there a way to send text to an aspcontrol via jquery

  • How to encode and decode chinese characters?

    - by melaos
    I've try googling around but wasn't able to find what charset that this text below belongs to: 具有éœé›»ç”¢ç”Ÿè£ç½®ä¹‹å½±åƒè¼¸å…¥è£ç½® But putting <meta http-equiv="Content-Type" Content="text/html; charset=utf-8"> and keeping that string into a html file i was able to view the chinese character wording properly. which is: ??????????????? So my question is: what tools can i use to detect the character set of those text? And how do i convert/encode/decode them properly in C#? Updates: Added some test code [TestMethod] public void TestMethod1() { string encodedText = "具有éœé›»ç”¢ç”Ÿè£ç½®ä¹‹å½±åƒè¼¸å…¥è£ç½®"; Encoding encoder = new UTF8Encoding(); byte[] postBytes = encoder.GetBytes(encodedText); postBytes = UTF8Encoding.Convert(Encoding.UTF8, Encoding.Unicode, postBytes); string decodedText = Encoding.Unicode.GetString(postBytes); Assert.AreNotEqual(encodedText, decodedText); } thanks

  • how to create a backup of a file once the current one is changed using php

    - by SkyLar
    I'm playing around with file info in php and i'm wondering if its possible to do the following: once a file is changed get the contents of the file, then put the contents of the file into another file. kinda like a "backup system" so once you make a change to the file a duplicate one is created, each change to the original file overwrites the duplicate one. i'm trying to do this with storing the time in the db, is this possible? i don't know what there is to test against? more clearly, i would like to do the following: execute a script once a specifeced file is changed on the server

  • C# - A good library to fake Time.Now?

    - by Amokrane
    Hi, In order to Unit-Test a feature, I need to fake DateTime.Now. Something like: SupposeNowIs(new DateTime(..)); I can either use a third library that does it, or write my own little class. What do you recommand? Do you know any good library for this purpose? How would you fake time in C#? By changing DateTime.Now? (I suppose it's read only?). Thank you!

  • C++ Program performs better when piped

    - by ET1 Nerd
    I haven't done any programming in a decade. I wanted to get back into it, so I made this little pointless program as practice. The easiest way to describe what it does is with output of my --help codeblock: ./prng_bench --help ./prng_bench: usage: ./prng_bench $N $B [$T] This program will generate an N digit base(B) random number until all N digits are the same. Once a repeating N digit base(B) number is found, the following statistics are displayed: -Decimal value of all N digits. -Time & number of tries taken to randomly find. Optionally, this process is repeated T times. When running multiple repititions, averages for all N digit base(B) numbers are displayed at the end, as well as total time and total tries. My "problem" is that when the problem is "easy", say a 3 digit base 10 number, and I have it do a large number of passes the "total time" is less when piped to grep. ie: command ; command |grep took : ./prng_bench 3 10 999999 ; ./prng_bench 3 10 999999|grep took .... Pass# 999999: All 3 base(10) digits = 3 base(10). Time: 0.00005 secs. Tries: 23 It took 191.86701 secs & 99947208 tries to find 999999 repeating 3 digit base(10) numbers. An average of 0.00019 secs & 99 tries was needed to find each one. It took 159.32355 secs & 99947208 tries to find 999999 repeating 3 digit base(10) numbers. If I run the same command many times w/o grep time is always VERY close. I'm using srand(1234) for now, to test. The code between my calls to clock_gettime() for start and stop do not involve any stream manipulation, which would obviously affect time. I realize this is an exercise in futility, but I'd like to know why it behaves this way. Below is heart of the program. Here's a link to the full source on DB if anybody wants to compile and test. https://www.dropbox.com/s/6olqnnjf3unkm2m/prng_bench.cpp clock_gettime() requires -lrt. for (int pass_num=1; pass_num<=passes; pass_num++) { //Executes $passes # of times. clock_gettime(CLOCK_PROCESS_CPUTIME_ID, &temp_time); //get time start_time = timetodouble(temp_time); //convert time to double, store as start_time for(i=1, tries=0; i!=0; tries++) { //loops until 'comparison for' fully completes. counts reps as 'tries'. <------------ for (i=0; i<Ndigits; i++) //Move forward through array. | results[i]=(rand()%base); //assign random num of base to element (digit). | /*for (i=0; i<Ndigits; i++) //---Debug Lines--------------- | std::cout<<" "<<results[i]; //---a LOT of output.---------- | std::cout << "\n"; //---Comment/decoment to disable/enable.*/ // | for (i=Ndigits-1; i>0 && results[i]==results[0]; i--); //Move through array, != element breaks & i!=0, new digits drawn. -| } //If all are equal i will be 0, nested for condition satisfied. -| clock_gettime(CLOCK_PROCESS_CPUTIME_ID, &temp_time); //get time draw_time = (timetodouble(temp_time) - start_time); //convert time to dbl, subtract start_time, set draw_time to diff. total_time += draw_time; //add time for this pass to total. total_tries += tries; //add tries for this pass to total. /*Formated output for each pass: Pass# ---: All -- base(--) digits = -- base(10) Time: ----.---- secs.
