• Base64 encoding in PHP not working for '&' and '#' ?

  My knowledge about base64 is pretty limited. I am using it as an alternative to string escaping in a content management system, for I had been warned about how weaknesses have been found in mysql_real_escape_string(); and quite sheepishly so, as I am aware of how it buffs text size up. PHP seems to truncate everything after an instance of # or & in the string; please help me out of this one. Also, comment on whether using base64 to maintain the 'trueness' of post content in the CMS is just plain retarded, or a wise move. Thanks for your time :)

  I am using the version 1.0 release of Linq for nHibernate. When I run the following linq statements I receive the error not a single-length projection: Surname I can find very few references to this on the web and looking into the source it says it should never occur! ClientID is a Int type and Surname is a string.   I have an interface ProductService with method findByCriteria. This method had a long list of nullable parameters, like productName, maxCost, minCost, producer and so on. I refactored this method by introducing Parameter Object. I created class SearchCriteria and now method signature looks like this: findByCriteria (SearchCriteria criteria) I thought that instances of SearchCriteria are only created by method callers and are only used inside findByCriteria method, i.e.: void processRequest() { SearchCriteria criteria = new SearchCriteria () .withMaxCost (maxCost) ....... .withProducer (producer); List<Product> products = productService.findByCriteria (criteria); .... } and List<Product> findByCriteria(SearchCriteria criteria) { return doSmthAndReturnResult(criteria.getMaxCost(), criteria.getProducer()); } So I did not want to create separate public class for SearchCriteria and put it inside ProductServiceInterface: public interface ProductService { List<Product> findByCriteria (SearchCriteria criteria); static class SearchCriteria { ... } } Is there anything bad in this interface?   Is it standard/intended behaviour that the value of a hidden form field is not bound to the view model (nor is a query string value)? Example: <%= Html.Hidden("test", "13" )%> if my poco view model contains a property test it should be bound shouldn't it?! i have to set it explicitely in the controller at the moment which kind of defeats the objective doesn't it? bla( formviewmodel m, string test) { m.test = test; } any feedback appreciated. thanks! christian

How can I get my custom implementation to exhibit the same behavior as the BCL version? Or, asked another way, since F# has (implicitly) the concept of tuple parameters, curried parameters, and BCL parameters, and I know how to distinguish between curried and tuple-style, how can I force the third style (a la BCL methods)? Let me know if this is unclear.

  I have a fairly large model and I want to retrieve only a select set of fields for each record in order to keep the JSON string I am building small. Using :select with find works great but my key goal is to use conditional logic with an associated model. Is the only way to do this really with a lamda in a named scope? I'm dreading that perhaps unnecessarily but I'd like to understand if there is a way to make the :select work with a condition. This works: @sites = Site.find :all, :select => 'id,foo,bar' When I try this: @sites = Site.find :all, :select => 'id,foo,bar', :include => [:relatedmodel], :conditions => ["relatedmodel.type in (?)", params[:filters]] The condition works but each record includes all of the Site attributes which makes my JSON string way way too large. • Set Caret position with JTextArea in JScrollPane

  Right now I have a JTextArea inside of a JScrollPane. For the current content it has both a vertical and horizontal scroll bar showing up. I'm trying to implement a search functionality where a user can search for a certain string and it will set the caret position to the first occurrence of that string. However it seems that JScrollPane only scrolls vertically when I set my caret position. So matching strings going off the JTextArea horizontally will completely get missed and the horizontal scroll bar won't scroll at all. I'm using the basic function setCaretPosition() for the JTextArea Does anybody have any idea why my JScrollPane isn't moving horizontally using setCaretPosition() Edit: It appears the horizontal scroll bar is scrolling but it moves so little that it's barely noticeable. I can only see the very first pixel of the character. Is there a way to have the scrollbar center (or as much as possible) to the caret position?

• Flagging complex properties as Browsable in the compact framework

  I'm working on a compact framework project and whilst most of the properties are fairly straight forward (I.e. mark them as browsable in the xmta file), I'm struggling to get this to work for more complex types - on the full framework, I'd just implement a custom TypeConverter and go from there, but it seems the CF TypeConverter doesn't have any of the type converting methods to override, which has left me a little stuck? It probably should be blindingly obvious but how would I go about supporting design time property support for more complex types (for the sake of argument, assume I can already convert to and from a string, but I'd prefer to keep this strongly typed, rather than just pretend it was a string and parse it both ways. Where should I be looking to achieve this?

  I'm researching a way to build an n-tierd sync solution. From the WebSharingAppDemo-CEProviderEndToEnd sample it seems almost feasable however for some reason, the app will only sync if the client has a live SQL db connection. Can some one explain what I'm missing and how to sync without exposing SQL to the internet? The problem I'm experiencing is that when I provide a Relational sync provider that has an open SQL connection from the client, then it works fine but when I provide a Relational sync provider that has a closed but configured connection string, as in the example, I get an error from the WCF stating that the server did not receive the batch file. So what am I doing wrong?   Hey guys, -- I just parsed a big file and I created a list containing 42.000 strings/words. I want to query [against this list] to check if a given word/string belongs to it. So my question is: What is the most efficient way for such a lookup? A first approach is to sort the list [list.sort()] and then just use the if word in list: print 'word' -- which is really trivial and I am sure there is a better way to do it. My goal is to apply a fast lookup that finds whether a given string is in this list or not. If you have any ideas of another data structure, they are welcome. Yet, I want to avoid for now more sophisticated data-structures like Tries etc. I am interested in hearing ideas (or tricks) about fast lookups or any other python library methods that might do the search faster than the simple 'in'. I've managed to connect to a class without any issues, but what I really want to do is connect to a property of the main window.
