  I have HP DL360p Gen8 646902-xx1 I'm trying to optimize my config for low latency trading. Should I enable "Intel NIC DMA Channels"? Will that help/affect my system? From HP doc: Added a new ROM Based Setup Utility (RBSU) Advanced Performance Option menu that allows the user to enable Intel NIC DMA Channels (IOAT). This option is disabled by default. When enabled, certain networking devices may see an improvement in performance by utilizing Intel's DMA engine to offload network activity.   hi, looking for laptop upgrade, and thinking about SSD drive. Laptop would be Dell Studio XPS with T9400 as i can get one for a very good price. So i was thinking about replacing the built in 500 GB hdd with some kind of SDD Currently two choices: OCZ Vertex Series 60 GB vs. Intel X25-M G2 MLC 80 GB Price is almost the same. From anandtech Intel performs badly in sequential write, but scores very high numbers in random write and random read (good for visual studio?) and i get more space. What do you think? OCZ Vertex or Intel X25-M G2 ? Purely from Visual Studio 2008 and upcoming 2010 perspective?

  I have a HP 8530w Elitebook this Laptop got an eSATA port which I want to plug my LaCie d2 Quadra V2 1TB harddrive into. It all works well on a fresh install of Windows 7 without the Intel Chipset drivers installed. However when I install the Intel Rapid Storage drivers or the Intel Matrix software my drive seems to "disconnect" when I use it to much. I have a lot of Virtual PC's on the drive and when I start them the disk somewhat disconnects. What could cause this?

• Intel Xeon vt-d query

  Does Xeon westmere ep (xeon 56xx series) have vt-d (=iommy / direct io) or does intel TXT (Intel® Trusted Execution Technology) include vt-d? I'm at a loss. I've been researching current processors for an important project for some time now. I need to know, if the xeon 5600s (Westmere EP) include vt-d (iommu/directed io/pci passing) because the system will run virtualized guests. This enables direct hardware access eg. pci passthrough, in xen for example. It seems that the 5600s TXT should incorporate vt-d and that xeon 5600s should include vt-d as they are ramped up 5500s, but there is no conclusive answer anywhere. Intel's processor comparison only states that 5500s have vt-d and no TXT and 5600s have no vt-d but TXT. I'd be really grateful if anybody could clear this up and possibly even provide a citation. • Mobile Intel 965 vs 4 Series chipset speed differences

  A client of ours is having a problem panning on a mapping application that we write on their panasonic toughbooks (CF-19's). One of their toughbooks the panning is fairly smooth while on the other it is really slow. Doesn't help that they have all the settings turned up, but I would of thought any reasonably new graphics card (even shared memory) would have more than adequate graphic speed. I am pretty sure that the graphic adapter is to blame, but I can't find anything out about either chipset (level of acceleration, non-problems, etc). All I get is the intel data sheets. The faster panning one is on the Mobile Intel 4 Series Express Chipset while the slower is on the Mobile Intel 965 Express Chipset. Is this expected? Does it sound like a driver problem? They both have the same amount of ram and same cpu.

  I know that it's possible to get this information - Intel's own TurboBoost sidebar gadget appears to use an ActiveX control to determine the current clock speed of an i3/i5/i7 CPU when TurboBoost is active. However, I'm wanting to do this programmatically in C# - obtaining the CurrentClockSpeed value from WMI tops out at the set maximum clock speed of the CPU, so in TurboBoost mode, it doesn't report the current actual clock speed.

  I have used a hdmi cable to connect my lcd (which is connected with my speakers) with my nvida 275 gtx grafic card. I can not get the sound output to work. The hardware itself is working probably - I tested it under windows. Currently I am running Kubuntu 9.10 64 with Nvidia 190.53. The sound output worked fine before I installed the hdmi connection. It was at least partly written in C. How do I make a custom software image Intel Cos's boot loader will understand ? I know a host PC xmodem's the image to the client device, and I was wondering if anyone had already either reverse-engineered this or had original info ? or is my only recousre to reverse engineer the update file format ?

  I just installed Mac OS X 10.7 "Lion" and Ubuntu 11.10 on my MacBook Pro. Using these instructions: tuxation.com/creating-home-partition-mac-linux.html . After changing the location of my home folder to the new location, it gives me the error in the title, and my username no longer appears in the login screen. Using the "Other" option with my username seems to make it try to log in, but the screen quickly flashes between blank and a shell before kicking me back to the login screen without notice. I'm trying to share my home folder between Mac OS X and Ubuntu, using an hfsplus partition (unjournaled) between the two. The home partition seems to mount fine as /home, and I am able to modify it under Ubuntu. Below is the line I've added to fstab: /dev/sda3 /home hfsplus defaults 0 1 I should also note that I changed my account's username and home directory location to match this, though I've double checked that and everything seems in order there... Thank you in advance for any assistance. Edit: It seems that the /etc/passwd file didn't have my new home directory's location in it, so I changed that, and I am now able to log into my account, although I am still not listed in the login screen, and my username in the menu on the top right shows up as "[Invalid UTF-8]"...

• How do I install Ubuntu 12.04 PPC on a PowerPC G4 from commands line or fix the graphical mode?

  Good afternoon. I'm new to this Linux world so I hope someone can help me . I recently got a Mac as a gift, a PowerPC G4 , which has 1GB of RAM but came with no optical drive or hard drive. So I put a dvd burner and a hard drive of 40 GB I got. Then download an iso of Ubuntu 12.04 for PowerPC and burned onto a CD. I'm trying to install from Open Firmware ( as I haven't a Mac keyboard, I use one standard ) . Finally, the Installation CD boots , but on live mode and after the Ubuntu 12.04 screen I get a message that there is a problem with my graphics adapter but I can continue with minimal graphics and give me the command line . My question is that how do I install through a text or if there is any way to fix this problem to run the graphical mode and so can continue the installation of Ubuntu, and if once installed Ubuntu the problem will be fixed or what? I would appreciate if you help me , as I mentioned before, there is almost nothing of Ubuntu but I think it will be easier than trying to get the Mac OS X proper . Spend good.

• How to set up a personal Apple developer account now with an eye on transferring app ownership to a company later?

  I have two Mac applications that I wrote for my own personal use, but I'm considering polishing them up and giving selling them on the Mac App Store a try. It seemed very premature to consider what would happen if either app would become successful enough to make it possible to set up a business around it, or to sell it to another developer. That is, until I read that Apple doesn't make it easy to transfer app ownership. I'm not sure how to best register with the Apple Developer program now to avoid any possible hassle in this respect later. From what I understand, one can really only transfer ownership of a developer account. I'm not sure about the relationship between an Apple ID and an Apple developer account. Does this mean I should at least not use the Apple ID I'm already using for iTunes, but create a second one to use for registering as an Apple Developer? Is there any disadvantage to using separate Apple IDs like this on the same Mac (one ID for Xcode development, the other ID for iTunes/iCloud/App Store/...)? Should one go as far as having a separate Apple ID & Apple developer account per app one develops? Or is there some other solution to take into account the possibility of transferring app ownership?

  My girlfriend got a new Subnotebook for Christmas (Sony Vayo VPCY21S1E), which comes with an "Intel HD graphics" vga adaptor. When I try to boot the Ubuntu installer from USB, the screen goes blank after a short while, before I even see the Ubuntu logo. However, when I select "nomodeset" in the boot options, I can boot it to the CLI login prompt. When I start X, though, that only works in VESA mode (I've read Intel eventually got rid of Usermode Mode Setting and only offers KMS now, which I've disabled to get it to boot). What can I do to enable a) higher resolution than 1024x768 in VESA b) hardware acceleration for compiz, video playback, etc?

• how do i fix this: the networking and wireless are enabled. but list of networks under wireless networks not available

  i started working with ubuntu 11.10 last year. i upgraded to 12.04 a week back. since then i have had all sorts of problems with network connection. first had to install the new driver. the hardware switch somehow got disabled then the above problem arrived. even tho the options are all enabled, the OS is not able to detect scan available network connections. also i have to bring to notice that once in a while it does get connected, can not explain how it happens.   Hi. There seems to be a issue with the Easynote range of PB laptops. Since Ubuntu 10.10 does not use a Xorg.conf file to save your gamma / resolution /brightness setting, everytime I turn on my laptop I have to open up a terminal window and use the x-gamma command to set it up to my personal preference. Is there a way to create a configuration file which can save that into the system everytime I load up the OS?
