Compare these two implementations: public class MyClass { public myClass(string fileName) { // some code... } } as opposed to: public class MyClass { private myClass(){} public static Create(string fileName) { // some code... } } There are some places in the .Net framework that use the static method to create instances. At first I was thinking, it registers it's instances to keep track of them, but regular constructors could do the same thing through the use of private static variables. What is the reasoning behind this style?

    I have this class that contains vars for db connection; Public Shared s As String Public Shared con As String = WebConfigurationManager.ConnectionStrings("foo").ToString() Public Shared c As New SqlConnection(con) Public Shared x As New SqlCommand(s, c) I import this to my page like this; Imports DBVars I'm then able to access these vars from my page. But if I try to import them into a user control the variables are not available. Am I making an error or is this expected? Thanks.

    OK so to set and read variables from the current session String Myvar =(string) System.Web.HttpContext.Current.Session[“MyVariable”] To set System.Web.HttpContext.Current.Session[“MyVariable”] = “NewValue” I can do neither, I get a System.NullReferenceException: Object reference not set to an instance of an object. from System.Web.HttpContext.Current.Session. In my web.config I have <sessionState mode="StateServer" stateConnectionString="tcpip=127.0.0.1:42424" cookieless="false" timeout="20"> </sessionState> I have read a dozen articles on the the necessity of IHttpHandler and an IRequiresSessionState interface. I think the issue may be caused because I am requesting this information in Page_PreInit. I found a solution in a stack overflow article but I don't seem be using it properly to actually make this go. I am not sure what I am missing. Thanks in advance.

    Hi, I' m implementing a custom STL map. I need to make sure that any data type (basic or user defined) key will work with it. I declared the Map class as a template which has two parameters for the key and the value. My question is if I need to use a string as the key type, how can I overload the < and operators for string type keys only?? In template specialization we have to specialize the whole class with the type we need as I understand it. Is there any way I can do this in a better way?? What if I add a separate Key class and use it as the template type for Key? Thank You!!

    Hello Im building a new version of an iPhone application and Im wondering if I should review how my app communicates with the server. My iPhone client sends and receives XML over HTTP requests. To send the information I use ASIHTTPRequest framework. I "manually" build the XML request by appending strings. To parse the response Im using a NSXMLParser. My question is if I have better options to A) Create an XML string from a memory object. B) Create a memory object from the XML string. Is there anything like JAXB to marshal XML into object?     I need to make a Function that receives a Session Key and a Session Value and call this function on a normal HTML onClick event. When this function is called the Session variable is assigned the Key I sent with the Value I sent.     I am working on playing with some Python to create a webapp. At first I put the HTML in a string, using %s to fill certain elements. That all worked perfectly. Now I want to put the HTML in a template, so I followed this tutorial. My code looks like this (I deleted irrelevant code for this error): import codecs import cgi import os import jinja2 jinja_environment = jinja2.Environment(loader=jinja2.FileSystemLoader(os.path.join(os.path.dirname(__file__)))) class Rot13Handler(webapp2.RequestHandler): def get(self): template = jinja_environment.get_template('rot13.html') self.response.out.write(template.render({'text': ''})) When I replace just template.render({'text': ''}) a random string, the program works fine. I did add the latest jinja2 library to my app.yaml, and naturally my rot13.html does exist with the {{ text }} added. So could anyone please help me in the right direction? I don't know why it's going wrong.
