I'm looking for a very comprehensive guide on how to setup a DHCP IP scope, for a phone and PC network on Microsoft Small Business Server 2008.
Any suggestions?
Hello,
First of all I must say that I'm ver inexperienced server and network user. But I rented a unmanaged dedicated server. Well I didn't know what unmanaged really means, then I learned it when I needed support. Well I must do everything by myself.
I have a problem. I had already 4 IPs on my server when I rented it. But then I needed more Ips and my server assigned me 32 Ips in which I can only use 27 of them.
85.25.230.0 - 85.25.230.31 this is my Ip range and they say the following Ips must not be configured on the server:
85.25.230.0 - network address
85.25.230.1 - gateway address
85.25.230.2 - router redundancy
85.25.230.3 - router redundancy
85.25.230.31 - broadcast address
But the problem is ok Ips are assigned to me but they are not setup on my server. How will I setup Ips to work on my server?
I did this after my reseach on google:
I used this command on command prompt:
route add 85.25.230.0 mask 255.255.255.224 85.25.230.1 metric 1 if
then it said OK!. and I thought they should be working.
(btw, mask is given to me by my ISP and I don't know metric 1 and if means I just saw it on the net and write it here)
I setup my domains via using Plesk Kontrol Panel. So i added one domain and setup one of my new Ips 85.25.230.5 to it. But no it is not working. When I visit the domain via browser, there is a Plesk page comes and says this domain is not configured on the server.
Then I changed the domains Ip to one of my old Ips which are given to me with the server and which I have been using for my other domains for a long time. Ok in a second, domain started working. I set it back to my new Ip and domain did not work.
As I said, I'm not an expert and do not now the logic. But I'm eager to learn. Can you tell me what might couse the problem and did I do wrong while setting up IP RANGE to my server, if so how can I set them up?
Thank you,
Efe
My office has multiple Windows 8 Machines and slow internet. Is there a place online I can download the 8.1 upgrade from home on my fast internet so I can do a network or usb install at the office? I don't want to have to download 3GB+ of updates on each and every machine through the Windows store over our slow internet connection.
The Windows 8 PC's in question are OEM Windows 8 Home, upgraded to Windows 8 Pro via the online Pro pack upgrade.
Hello,
is there a simple way (without setting up a local network via VPN) to route UPD Multicast Packets (224.0.0.0 to 239.255.255.255) from one server to another server (both residing in completely different networks as they are hosted with different companies...)?
Thanks
Jens
Let's say I've got around 50 PCs with identical specs but no CD or floppy drives and a blank hard disk, is there an efficient way to install (and update) an OS and software on each of them? Would I have to go to each PC one by one with the CDs or is there a way to install over a network? In the case of Windows XP would you need 50 separate copies?
Is there any way to (manually or automatically) share downloaded software updates between macs?
Edit: The thinking is that I have one mac update itself using Software Update, and then somehow share the downloaded updates with other macs.
For example, I have a mac pro and a mac mini on my local network. I'd like to download the Mac OS X 10.6.5 update only once, instead of having to download it separately for each mac.
I need to upgrade my existing wireless infrastructure and this time I want 2 access points to cover my house, since I get blind spots no matter what with a single AP, I have physical cabling to my central network available for both access points.
But I would really like these two to interoperate seamlessly as a single SSID. How do I do this and what are the features the new AP's I'm buying need to support ? (Product recommendations are welcome ;)
Hello, I have a tor runned on my computer. In Vidalia (gui-frontend) there is a button: 'Use a new identity'. This will change last point of connecting in Tor-network. Are there any commands which I can send to the 9051 port (configure-port) to use randomly any another server?
I am using a rack mounted device that has 10 Ethernet ports built into it. For 8 of the ports, I would like to bind them to a single vwmare-server-2.0 virtual network interface, so that I can, in effect, use the ports as a hub for the external devices and internal virtual machines.
How can I bridge a single vmware vmnet# interface to several physical interfaces?

I'm looking for a new WiFi router, and one key feature for me is WOL. Seems like many routers won't do this w/ factory firmware.
Given my last router (Asus WL-520g) turned into a disco-brick couple hours after flashed DD-WRT I'd prefer if the new one supported WOL (Wake on LAN) out of the box.
Other required features would be:
DynDNS service support
Port forwarding
NAT loopback
so I can access services running in my own network using dyndns hostname or public IP w/o getting too old (for example DIR-615 with factory firmware lets you wait literally minutes)
Currently, my company internet access for visitor are required to request MAC address from them if they want to access to internet. Can we do something like the Hotel wifi? they just access to the network and just key in the password, then they are able to access the internet for certain time of period. so far, i have looking for linux solution, but they are no such program/application available. do you all have any experience on it?

MH
Hi all,
I've installed the Windows Deployment Server role on to Windows 2008 R2, I've found the Windows PE .wim file from the Windows 7 AIK and added it to my deployment server. On a client I can now do a network boot and have the Windows PE image load, now on my previous Windows 2003 Deployment Server I'd type WDSCapture and upload the Windows client to the server but WDSCapture is no longer present. Am I missing something? Should I be using Windows Deployment Server for Windows 7?
Many thanks
Scott
I am currently working abroad and use my company's VPN for FTP and some browsing. This is a relatively slow connection and while it is suitable for those VPN necessities; much of my other internet usage can be done without the VPN at a much higher speed.
Is there a way to tell Safari and my FTP software to use the VPN and for all other connections to go directly to the internet.
I am currently using OSX's Network Prefs for running my VPN connection.

Both my router and my wireless networking card support the standards 802.11a/b/g/n but as I'm only getting speeds around 30-40 Mbit/s I suspect that it's the g standard being used instead of n. Now, I'd like to verify this somehow, so my question is: Is there a way (like a network diagnistics tool or the like) to find out which standard is currently used in the communication between computer and router?
We are faced with a dilemma with using snow leopard. We want to have thr snow leopard server on site and not off site because it makes sense to have the server in the network physically for other services (file sharing, VPN, wiki etc) but our office does not have a very reliable Internet connection so it'd hard to host the email with it. We don't want to factor out the email as a separate server because we want to enjoy a single user login across everything. How do we get around this dilemma?
At school, there is a large network with lots of non-technical minded people and lots of viruses. How can I protect my flash drive from these worms and viruses so I don't bring them home and infect my home computers?
i'm looking to become really really good at understanding my machine. this includes hardware, software, firmware, the internet, creating my own network, troubleshooting problems, etc. I have an aerospace engineering degree so i'm technically inclined, but i want to really delve deeper in becoming a techno guru.
what literature should i start reading? books, textbooks, journals, articles, papers, etc. anything would help, thanks!
I have two NICs in a client PC. I have a WDS server.
When I boot from PXE on client computer I receive:
WdsClient: An error occurred while obtaining an IP address from the DHCP server. Please check to ensure that there is an operational DHCP server on this network segment.
I think my client is trying to get an IP adress from the NIC which not connected to LAN. How to avoid this error?
How can I change fedora 12 hostname using gui tools (network connections) only, without editing config files?
All I can see right now if I select "Manual" in IPv4 settings is "DNS servers" or DHCP client ID, neither of which sounds like "domain/hostname" combination.
Tips?

Hello,
I'm using Linux in a large multi-user network. Let A be some group which I'm am member of, but which is not my primary group. According to chmod(2) I should be able to chgrp a file to group A. Trying to do so succeeds on a local as well as on a NFSv3 mount, but not on a NFSv4/Kerberos mount (EPERM). Are there any special considerations regarding chgrp when using NFSv4 mounts?
I am running Windows7 RC1, I have recently installed CheckPoint VPN SecureClient (http://www.checkpoint.com/products/vpn-1_clients/) to connect to my work network. On installation this appears to have disabled Fast User Switching.
You will notice "Switch user" is now greyed out.
I tried some googleing first and the most popular solution is to remove a registry entry at HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \ SOFTWARE \ Microsoft \ Windows NT \ CurrentVersion \ Winlogon \ GinaDLL
I have no entry there.
Any ideas?
Thanks.
