• PECL install error after upgrading to OSX 10.8

  I've just upgraded my OS to Mountain Lion and PECL is no longer working (it's on a test drive so no drama, but I'd like to get it working so I can upgrade the OS on my shiny new SSD as well). I'm using the native PHP installation, no macports/homebrew or anything like that. Running sudo pecl install uploadprogress (for example) produces the following terminal output: downloading uploadprogress-1.0.3.1.tgz ... Starting to download uploadprogress-1.0.3.1.tgz (9,040 bytes) .....done: 9,040 bytes 4 source files, building running: phpize grep: /usr/include/php/main/php.h: No such file or directory grep: /usr/include/php/Zend/zend_modules.h: No such file or directory grep: /usr/include/php/Zend/zend_extensions.h: No such file or directory Configuring for: PHP Api Version: Zend Module Api No: Zend Extension Api No: autom4te: need GNU m4 1.4 or later: /usr/bin/m4 ERROR: `phpize' failed I'm guessing the problem is the 3 grep lines. I've found several threads that suggest this is caused by XCode not being installed...but XCode is installed, and updated to the latest version (4.4). All the relevant symlinks to /Developer/usr/bin/* also exist as they should. m4 is currently at version: m4 (GNU M4) 1.4.13, so even though the output above contains a line pertaining to it, I don't think that can be the problem. I'm sure it's just a simple issue, anyone got any clues?

• Error in Outlook: "A program has attachment...open" when replying to email

  Whenever I reply to an email in Outlook 2007, dialogue box pops up saying: "A program has the attachment <email subject> open. Changes to this file will be lost unless you save your changes to another file by clicking the Microsoft Office Button in the other program, and then clicking Save As." This happens whether the original email has an attachment or not. It's just an annoyance really - Outlook works fine in every other respect. It only started happening about a week ago. As far as I can remember I haven't installed any new software that is likely to have affected it.

• Windows Server 2008 R2 vs Windows 7 Ultimate

  I have a Dual Core Intel CPU E7200, 4 GB RAM, and a NvIDIA 8600 GT for graphics and 500GB HDD. This configuration runs Windows 7 Ultimate very smoothly, but now I recently signed up to the MS WebSiteSpark programme and have downloaded the Windows Server 2008 R2. So my question is whether I can use the Server Edition for my day to day use, play games, etc etc?? I want to install the Server OS to monitor my Home Network and also for some web development I have been trying out lately.

• Remove Kernel Lock from Unmounted Mass Storage USB Device from the Command Line in Linux

  I've searched high and low, and can't figure this one out. I have a older Olympus Camera (2001 or so). When I plug in the USB connection, I get the following log output: $ dmesg | grep sd [20047.625076] sd 21:0:0:0: Attached scsi generic sg7 type 0 [20047.627922] sd 21:0:0:0: [sdg] Attached SCSI removable disk Secondly, the drive is not mounted in the FS, but when I run gphoto2 I get the following error: $ gphoto2 --list-config *** Error *** An error occurred in the io-library ('Could not lock the device'): Camera is already in use. *** Error (-60: 'Could not lock the device') *** What command will unmount the drive. For example in Nautilus, I can right click and select "Safely Remove Device". After doing that, the /dev/sg7 and /dev/sdg devices are removed. • iTunes 9.2 OS X - iTunes DJ not functioning correctly

  I have been using iTunes on my Mac for 4 years now without any problems at all. Recently, however, the iTunes DJ function has started misbehaving. Instead of showing the 5 previously played songs, and 15 upcoming songs randomly selected from the playlist I have defined in the settings, it instead shows the 5 previously played songs, plus many more than 15 upcoming songs. In addition, the upcoming songs are not from the playlist, they are from about 7 or so albums, in album order. I have changed settings, change the source playlist, restarted iTunes, rebooted the machine. All with no change. Does anybody have any idea how to get this working again? Thanks, Dave

  Apple's keyboards have a new key, with § and ± symbols on it. Can somebody tell me what these keys are for, and where I should use them? I am aware the symbols have mathematical uses, but I assume they must do something important as well to be on the core keyboard. Or are they just the 'Scroll Lock' of the Apple world?

• HP Jetdirect 175x and HP Officejet K7103 printsharing

  I have managed to get this setup working , but it is very unreliable and either the printserver or the printer seem to crash and wont respond after 1 or 2 prints, although I am able to still access the web config of the 175x. I had a similar problem with a linksys wireless print server with the same problem and assumed that a HP print server would do the job better...grrrr!! Anybody any ideas what to do next? It is not possible to flash the printserver, nor the printer as far as I know, so I assume I have some iffy settings in the print server config somewhre. All our users are W7 or Vista BTW. • Play music on iPhone through computer

  Now that I've had my iPhone for a few months, I'm trying an experiment to see if I can't replace the laptop I carry around with my iPhone + internet connected computer. To this end, I've been trying to find a program that will let me play the music on my iPhone through the hardware and software on the host computer. If I recall correctly this was possible a few years ago with the iPod - Linux software like Rhythmbox and Banshee was able to read the music off an iPod and play it through the speakers. I even thought I recalled iTunes itself being capable of this at one time. Now, however, iTunes greys out/disables the music on my iPhone and I can't find any documented support for the iPhone in any other music program. Is this really no longer possible? Am I limited to using the headphone jack to get music to play? (note: I am using an iPhone 3G with the 3.0 software. I am attempting to play music on computers other than the one I sync with) Several replies mention that I should check "manually manage" to do this. I just tried this on a computer that I don't sync my iPhone to and it asked me to erase and sync, which is obviously something I don't want to do. update: OK, I checked the "Manually manage music and videos" box on a computer that I didn't sync to (now known as "Computer A"), and it told me that I needed to erase & sync to cause the changes to have effect, so I did. At this point I'm guessing that my iPhone thinks that it's syncing with that computer. I copied over a few songs using the autofill feature. At this point, Computer A sees the maybe 10 or so songs I've copied using autofill. I then plug my iPhone into my Macbook ("Computer B") which I've been syncing with. At this point, I'm pretty sure that it still thought that all my synced content was still on my iPhone. The "manually manage music and videos" checkbox isn't checked, so I check it and go through a similar process where iTunes erases the synced content and I copy over a playlist. At this point, there's no trace of the songs that I copied over from Computer A. So I plug my iPhone into Computer A - in the Music section are the handful of songs that I had copied over earlier, greyed out and unplayable. To make sure that this wasn't some sort of caching issue, I plugged my iPhone into my sister's Macbook ("Computer C") and it lists the same few, greyed out songs that I had copied over from Computer A. Plugging into Computer B doesn't reveal these songs at all, only the songs that it copied over (these are playable). A few things: This inconsistent behavior is driving me insane. Why would my iPhone report two versions of its contents to different computers? Is there a way to get a computer to completely forget about an iPhone and just resync everything to get everything into a consistent state? Even if I get the phone into a consistent state, I still can't play the files on my phone anywhere but the computer I sync with, which was my original goal. What am I doing wrong? maybe I should read the fine print before I mess with my iPhone So going over this thread with a fine-toothed comb again yields this lovely tidbit in the Apple docs: Note: Even when manually managing, some content may only be available from one library at time. This includes all content on iPhone and video content on iPods. OK, so manually managing is a dead end on the iPhone. Are there any other options? Any unofficial third-party programs or drivers that will work?

Then when I subsequently try and connect using vagrant ssh or vagrant reload or similar, I get this: myterminal$ vagrant reload [default] Attempting graceful shutdown of linux... SSH connection was refused! This usually happens if the VM failed to boot properly. Some steps to try to fix this: First, try reloading your VM with `vagrant reload`, since a simple restart sometimes fixes things. If that doesn't work, destroy your VM and recreate it with a `vagrant destroy` followed by a `vagrant up`. If that doesn't work, contact a Vagrant maintainer (support channels listed on the website) for more assistance. Please help! I'm really stumped. Kind regards, Luke

I do not have a monitor screen. Can I use laptop screen to display dell server and set it up? I mean to say is, if I can display dell server on laptop screen, it would be great. • Getting Android drivers to work on Windows 8 Community Preview

  I made a post about this on android.stackexchange.com, and they referred me to here. I have an HTC Flyer and a Motorola Droid X, and for both, I've been unable to connect to USB debugging to do Android development. With the Motorola Droid X, the MotoHelper installer won't run, saying that I'm running an Unknown OS Version. With the HTC Flyer, HTC's Sync software installs successfully, but again the device doesn't connect. I realize that this is beta software, but is there anything that I can do to get this working? I've been relying on switching back to my laptop running Linux to test out my Android builds on the device. Of course, I'm not in any production environment - just playing around with the new OS, but not being able to write code on it makes less fun.

• Windows 7: Don't combine Taskbar Icons, but only display Icons

  I've never really liked this feature about Win7, but I guess I just got used to it. The feature I don't like is mousing over the win7 icons when there are multiple windows of the same type open. You have to waste that extra time choosing the window after it pops up and it's just clunky. The XP taskbar was nice, because you didn't have to go through any of this, but it had the problem where you ran out of taskbar space fast. I often resized my taskbar to take care of this. However, on Windows 7, I don't use up even 1/3 of my taskbar. I have all this space I can use, and instead it's all squished to the left, making me take extra steps. Are there any applications I can use to get this desired behavior, or else what route would you recommend to take to write this behavior myself? My first thought would be C# and the Windows taskbar apis. PS. If it's not clear what I'm asking for, please let me know, I'll try to be more specific.

• shell script over SSH ends unexpectedly after running 'ant build'

  I wrote a shell script that runs on remote host to build source code with 'ant build' command, and then distribute the built binary to other servers. However, right after Ant build is over successfully(I can see the command line output saying Build was successful), the ssh session ends and whatever commands after 'ant build' does not get executed. I'm confused what might be cause of this behavior. I suspected that it might be because the 'ant build' command takes too long time, and SSH somehow quits itself after that long command. But I don't think that's correct since if I just do 'sleep 60' in place of 'ant build' command, it actually execute latter commands as intended. I'm new at shell programming, so I might have made some silly misassumption. Can someone provide a pointer to a possible cause of this problem? The documentation states that it allows multiple exchange accounts to be configured and that we could switch between the those accounts from the configuration. However, it doesn't specify how to do that and I am unable to figure that out too. Do any of you have a solution?

• linux nooB: Installing ffmpeg + dependencies on aws linux ami (repo issues)

  Im installing ffmpeg to run on an amazon linux ami, and have added the rpmforge repo and the dag repo. Here are some guidelines I'm using for reference: TWoZaO and Razuna The rpmforge repo has ffmpeg, but if you try to install it then it will complain that is missing dependencies (for me libSDL-1.2.so.0()(64bit)). Regardless I will install ffmpeg from svn so I can be sure to enable the options I want (namely libx264). It seems strange to me though that SDL is not in rpmforge or dag, and in according to both of my references above, it should be there.   How can a Virtual PC with Win XP on it install the East Asian Language? (or does any browser come with Chinese fonts?) After setting up a virtual PC with Win XP, if Chinese font is needed, then the usual way is to go to the Control Panel, select "Regional and Language" and go to the second tab and check the box "Install Files for East Asian Languages". After clicking OK, it asks for the file cplexe.exe on the XP SP3 CD 3... and is said to be about 230MB... In such case, how can the language pack or fonts be installed? (Update: I found that it is true for Window 7's Virtual PC with XP on it, as well as the XP SP3 with IE 8 that can be downloaded in the link below.) (I downloaded the virtual hard drive file .vhd from http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=21EABB90-958F-4B64-B5F1-73D0A413C8EF&displaylang=en so there is no "CD 3"... there) Or does any browser come with all the unicode fonts without needing the OS to support it?

• Netbook performance - 1.33 GHz vs 1.6/1.66 GHz Atom

  All new 11" netbooks seem to carry 1.33 GHz Atom Z520 CPU instead of 1.6/1.66 GHz Atom N270/N280. The screen resolution of 11" netbooks make them very appealing, but I'm a bit concerned about their performance as they carry a slower CPU than the 1.6GHz Atom, which isn't a great performer in the first place. Is there any significant difference in performance between 1.33 GHz and 1.6/1.66 GHz Atom processors in day to day usage? Are any of those fast enough to decode 720p x264 video? (When paired with typical Intel GMA platform and software decoder like ffdshow/CoreAVC of course, not with Nvidia Ion platform)

• Best copy and paste software for windows?

  Sorry if this question exist already, I did some searches but could not find one myself. I am looking for the best programs to copy and paste stuff in windows more easily. So let's say instead of the default copy/paste one item at a time, I could have 5 different paragraphs that could all be pasted somewhere seperately. Hopefully this is not to confusing. Instead of bveing able to paste 1 item I would like to have a list of items that can be pasted or some similar functionality under windows. Please help make me more productive, I frequently need to copy and paste different sets of data. Here is a good exampl, let's say I need to be able to past my email somewhere but on another program or webpage I need to paste my home address.
