  • Detecting a message box launched in another application

    I am developing a windows service, in vb .et, that launches a legacy application that performs some work. The service acts as a wrapper around the legacy app allowing users to automate an otherwise manual operation. Everything is working great, except occasionally the legacy app displays a messagebox. When it does this the process halts until the the message box closes. As the service will be running on a server there will be no user to close the message box. The service launches the legacy application in a System.Diagnostics.Process. My question is, is there way to detect that a message box has been displayed by a process that I have started using System.Diagnostics.Process and is there a way to through code to close the messagebox. I've tried to be brief so if you need more information please let me know. Thanks in advance Richie

    I am trying to pull the data by date in vb.net. It is not throwing the error nor giving any result. Whereas It shows the results in table adapter configuration wizard when I try through query builder. I am using date time picker in the form. But I have formatted the date in the database as date.I am puzzled.   • Parsing/executing C# code in C++ (on Linux)?

    I want to be able to add scripting functionality to my application. One of the language bindings I am considering is C# (and possibly VB.Net). The challenge is this: My application is developed in C++ My application runs on Linux I am aware of Mono, but I dont know (as yet), what is required to allow my C++ appliaction (running on linux), to be scriptable with .Net languages. Is this feasible? Am I crazy for even thinking of doing this? If I'm not crazy, can anyone provide some guidelines on how to go about implementing this? Help, tips, ideas, suggestions anyone?

    Hello, we have a vb.net application with send and receive mailing also. Now we have added a session timer of 30 min but the users are complaining that they are facing a problem when they write a long text message or while composing they get busy in something else and when they return back to continue composing message , they are redirected to a session expiry page, and their long text message is gone forever. So I am new to this and I was thinking like , when the user is in compose message the text should be automatically saved to drafts like hotmail. Any help will be appreciated . Thank you.

Sometimes there is more than one inspection in a month, sometimes there is no inspection. However, the report that is desired by the clients requires that I have EXACTLY ONE record per month for the time frame they request the report. They understand the data issues and have stated that if there is more than one inspection in a month to take the latest one. If the is not an inspection for that month, go back in time untill you find one and use that one. I will now say what I have tried. Although if someone else has a better approach, I am perfectly willing to throw away what I have done and do it differently... STEP 1: create a query that removes the duplicates from the data. Ie. only one record per equip_id for each month/year, keeping the latest one. (done successfully) STEP 2: create a table of the date ranges the client wants the report for. (This is done dynamically at runtime) This table two field, Month and Year. So if the client wants a report from FEb 2008 to March 2010 the table would look like: Month Year 2 2008 3 2008 . . . 12 2008 1 2009 . . . 12 2009 1 2010 2 2010 3 2010 I then left joined this table with my query from step 1. So now I have a record for every month and every year that they want the report for, with nulls(or blanks) or sometimes 0s (not sure why, access is weird, but sometiems they are nulls and sumtimes they are 0s...) for the runtimes that are not avaiable. I don't particurally like this solution, but ill do it if i have to. (this is also done successfully) STEP 3: Fill in the missing runtime values. This I HAVE NOT done successfully. Note that if the request range for the report is feb 2008 to march 2010 and the oldest record for a particular equip_id is say june 2008, it is O.K. for the runtimes to be null (or zeros) for feb - may 2008. I am working with the following query for this step: SELECT equip_id as e_id,year,month, (select top 1 runhours from qry_1_c_One_Record_per_Month a where a.equip_id = e_id order by year,month) FROM qry_1_c_One_Record_per_Month where runhours is null or runhours = 0; UNION SELECT equip_id, year, month, runhours FROM qry_1_c_One_Record_per_Month WHERE .runhours Is Not Null And runhours <> 0 However I clearly can't check the a.equip_id = e_id ... so i don't have anyway to make sure i'm looking at the correct equip_id SUMMARY: So like i said i'm willing to throw away any part, or all of what I tried. Just trying to give everyone a complete picture. I REALLY apreciate ANY help! Thanks so much in advance!

    Hi all, I have this generic routine that I wrote that takes a list of sql strings and executes them against the database. Is there any way I can make this work faster? Typically it'll see maybe 200 inserts or deletes or updates at a time. Sometimes there is a mixture of updates, inserts and deletes. Would it be a good idea to separate the queries by type (i.e. group inserts together, then updates and then deletes)? I am running this against an ms access database and using vb.net 2005.   • Excel plugin: Finding a Chart's Source Data Number Format String

    I'm currently working on a plugin for excel (using VB.net--not VBA) that will attempt (among other things) to recognize the format of the source data of a chart and configure the chart's series' number format strings appropriately. That is, yearly data should always be two numbers, monthly data should always be a 3-letter month followed by a 2-digit year, etc. The goal is to have a uniform representation across all charts for monthly data, annual data, daily data, etc. My question is this: how do I find the number format string for the cells (or any cell that is part of that series, as I will be assuming all cells that make up a particular series have the same format) that represent the source data for the chart? Note: I can assume that the chart will always point to a range of cells (not, for example, an array of data).

    Java.net, the home of  Java community projects, has been re-launched with a new look and new tools for developers.  The move from CollabNet to the Kenai infrastructure offers more flexibility for developers who want to host or contribute to community projects.  Instead of the large, fixed infrastructure per project (for example, several mailing lists per project), Kenai's ala carte features allow users to take only what they need. "We will continue to have the great mix of blogs, forums, and editorial content as well as new tools on the project side, including Mercurial, Git, and JIRA for developers," Java.net Community Manager Sonya Barry explains. The migration was huge effort. Over 1400 projects were migrated (and some 30 projects are left to go). A large part of the migration was a big cleanup of abandoned projects. With the high abandonment rate of open source projects, the was a lot to remove.   • What should happen when a reference is deleted?

    I have a vb.net 3.5 application which references a dll (abc.dll, also in .net 3.5) This dll is accessed by the application from time to time. If at anytime during execution, if I delete the dll, I expect the application to throw an error the next time it tries to use a class from the dll. But, this is not the behaviour I see. If I delete the dll before startup, the application throws an error at startup. But not when the dll is deleted after startup. Is this the standard behaviour, or am I doing something wrong? Can I get the app to throw an error if the dll is not found when it tries to use its classes? Thanks in advance.

  • Does DB2 OS/390 BLOB support .docx file

    ASP.net app inserts .docx fileinto a row on DB2 OS/390 Blob table. A different VB.net app gets the DB2 OS/390 Blob data. When Microsoft Word tries to open the .docx file Microsoft Word pops up a message that the data is corrupted. Word will fix the data so the file can be viewed. I've seen some examples where .docx can be converted to .doc but they only talk about stripping out the text. Some of our .docx have pictures in them. Any ideas?
